Told I would need an engineer

My speeds have dropped massively I phoned India (30/03/2015), I did all they asked and they said I would need an engineer.
Very Strange as BT fault tracking shows the issue as being at step 1 BT retail servers.
I am not aware of any BT retail servers bieng at my home address.
It would be interesting to see what other other forum users think.

If the problem was my end surely the BT fault tracker would say so
I am not trying to be awkward but read the following and you may see why I am concerened about getting an enigineer out to my property. As I have said before check the line up to the cabinet or to the edge of my property before I book an engineer.

    Changing the SSID is a good idea, but I do not suggest changing it to something so troll enticing as "FBI Surveillance Van".  A SSID like that is only going to draw attention to you and your network and challenge malicious users to target you.  I advise not putting a target on your back and stick to a custom but not well known SSID.
    I normally suggest broadcasting an SSID of something a little less confrontational.  Something like combining your favorite color with your favorite sports team.
    All jetpacks are a little different but they should all have a way to sign in and complete configuration changes.  If you connect to your Jetpack and look up the IP Address of your Default Gateway you will know the IP of the Jetpack.  Plug in the IP Address of the Jetpack into a web browser and sign in with the admin password.  Review the security options that are available until you find a SSID or broadcast name or network name field.
    While you are at it you should also make sure you have a custom WiFi password configured with WPA2 security.  Custom WiFI passwords are going to be much more helpful than a creative SSID at keeping malicious users off your network.  Rule of thumb for WiFi passwords is the longer the better.

  • Need an engineer

    i ordered broadband and phone to my home in the middle of october order accepted and i was to be connected on the 16th of November. i had a visit from an engineer who noticed the existing line to my home which is in use from another company through my work for a fax line, that line had been split into two via a box on the exterior of the property and was told that it would not support the new broadband and my existing fax line. so i subsequently had a visit from a planning guy who fitted a new line to the exterior of the house. then i was told via sms that my new phone and broadband was connected but they had hijacked my works line and even then this line did not work for either phone or broadband and caused much upset with my employers who subsequently had to re take over the line through the company they use for phone and fax. so i spent many minutes on the phone trying to explain to bt this mistake they had made and kept recieving sms telling me the fault had been sorted over and over again. as i stand now i have my works line back re connected still have a new cable to the exterior of the house not connected to the interior still no bt line or broadband despite numerous phone calls to bt to request an engineer to connect the new cable from the exterior to the interior of the house this hole process has been on going for 6 weeks now still cant get an engineer to call or get the people on the end of the phone to understand this very simple situation all the while my 12 months line rental was foolishly paid in advance to these people NO PHONE NO BROADBAND JUST NEED AN ENGINEER SIMPLES!!!

  • Told I would not be charged for Installation, char...

    Hi,
    A month or so ago I moved house and decided to taker my BT account with me.
    When I organised the move with BT I was informed the installation charge would be around £130 because the house did not contain a line, at first I reluctantly agreed to this. I then spoke to my landlord who informed me the previous tenant had broadband so there was a line already installed.
    I phoned BT customer care again and the lady on the phone refunded my account. She then told me I needed to organise an engineer visit. At this point I repeatedly asked her if I would be charged for this visit. She responded "No" several times.
    The engineers visited me on the appointed day. They plugged a device into the line and popped to the exchange. Within 5 minutes they were back and told me the process was complete and my broadband was turned on. The whole visit lasted about 15 minutes including the time to go to the exchange and back.
    On my next BT Bill I was upset to see that I had been charged for the installation despite the customer care lady telling me there would be no charge what so ever. At this point I phoned BT again and recieved the worst customer care I have ever recieved from any comapny.
    I explained all of the above information to the employee. He listened to my previous call to the call centre and told me "The mistake was the previous employees human error and I would still be charged". After around 40 minutes on the phone trying to explain that it is not MY fault that BT made a mistake and essentially lied to me I made no progress. Just to top it off the call centre employee hung up on me!
    I have been a customer for over 2 years and have actively reccomended BT to people I know but I have to say I am thoroughly disappointed by this incident.
    At the point where I was told there would be no charge I could have easily cancelled my order and got a similar price from a competing company or even got my partner to set up a new account for our new house and take advantage of one of the deals BT posted through my door.
    I would really like this issue resolved otherwise I will be cancelling my BT contract as soon as I am able to.
    I look forward to hearing from a member of the customer care team.

    Help please... I was given a new I phone 5S and realized I would loose all my information on my phone, so I turned on I cloud and it told me I needed a "outlook" email address which I set up.  Now I have 2 email addresses but it won't acknowledge my app store on my phone ID and Password that I have always used.
    Now I cant get back all my apps and paid apps on my new phone.  I have followed everything on apple.com/support/appleid/.  I am totally frustrated right now, I hope someone can help me and walk me through fixing this problem

    Content bought using one Apple ID cannot be merged or transferred to another Apple ID.
    All content is forever tied to the Apple ID used to obtain them.

    You will need to have the serial number to activate the products. Please have then handy & also check the compatibility of the operating systems.

    You and your husband can share a store account and still have seperate iCloud accounts for your contacts, bookmarks and stuff like that.  Click here for instructions to make an apple account without entering a credit card.  Make sure you use a different email address for each apple account. 
    Set up your iPhone/iPad whatever using the new account for iCloud.  Then go into settings/store and sign in with your purchasing account, you may need to sign out of the other account.  To the best of my knowledge, your household is allowed to share purchased legally, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
    Once you each have your own devices set to your own accounts you can set them to backup to that account and it will keep all your contacts seperate.

    Just tried to install a new app and was told that I needed to "Agree to new Terms & Conditions".  When I hit OK, it brings me to a blank screen, so I can't accept them.  What am I supposed to do?

    Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Later)
    Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.

    Should you get the error iTunes.exe - Entry Point Not Found after the above reinstall then copy QTMovieWin.dll from:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    and paste into:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
    The above paths would be for a 64-bit machine. Hopefully the same fix with the " (x86)" omitted would work on 32-bit systems with the same error.

  • Told my profile needs to be "migrated"

    BT Sport is unavailable to me on channel 507 with youview box. I have been told that my profile needs to be migrated and that will take at least 3 days. By the way, as Mumbai have confirmed, I shouldn't complain as I am getting BT Sport for free! Oh, and when I try to access online it doesn't work either as my activation hasn't worked. Customer services tried to tell me it was a browser problem but they didn't take me up on the offer to bet on that. I had to get the Head of Customer Services in Glasgow to sort out my original set up and was eventually compensated for the number of wasted BT engineer visits. Looks as though it may be going the same way again....BT Technical side has not caught up with their marketing and their customer service is useless.
    Has anyone else been told their profile needs to be migrated?

  • Signed with comcast was told I would receive gift card

    When I became a Comcast customer back in Feb. 2010 I was told after 90 days I would receive a gift card for $150.00.  We are now in mid August and I have yet to receive this Gift card.  I have called comcast reps several times and have been told someone would get back to me, yea that never happened.  Called again tonigh and was told I had to call 1-877-220-3549 called that number to be told I was calling the wrong number, was told I needed to go on line to www.comcastrebate.com which I did. And was also told that Comcast them selves are not the ones that actually give the gift cards and do I know who was offering the promo. I said I was told that it would be a Visa gift card. The girl then said well good luck with that. Once on that site the are a bunch of sub catagories, I went into each one of them and in doing so on the other side of the screen about 25 show up with plenty of other pages to click onto. So do I call this a complete run around or what.  Has anyone else been going through the same thing? And if so what has your luck been in handling the situation.

    Yes, and, I try to restore. I have the T-Mobile sim card in it just to clarify. It will not let me get passed that, it does not accept the t-mobile sim card. i tried restoring it using wifi, cellular, and i cant get i tunes. I am scared that if i take the tmobile sim card out and put the at&t one in just to complete the restoration process that the iphone will lock again and not read the tmobile sim card, then all my hard work has gone for nothing. ( this whole process was caused by me trying wanting to empty my pictures onto my computer because i did not have any storage space left). <--- that may not be as important, but i included it just because.

    You have the iPhone 3GS, not the 3G. The last update to support the iPhone 3G is 4.2.1.
    iOS 4.3.3 includes bug fixes etc. There is nothing really special about this update that wasn't introduced in iOS 4.3. iOS 5 is the one to wait for - it will be released in the Autumn/Fall and includes over '200' new features/improvements.
    The additional text tines and ringtones were an iPhone 4-only feature.

  • I would need to connect an external drive to my iMac computer?

    I have an iMac hard drive that was purchased 1 year ago from the Apple Summit Sierra store in Reno, Nevada. I have had a lot of issues so this drive was replaced by a new one.  The old hardrive contains OS 10.5.x and has appleworks which I created a lot of documents. 
    The Apple Summit's Genius bar installed OS 10.6.8 onto the new hard drive and now, I am NOT able to open those files that were created with the appleworks software that resided on the old hard drive. I notice that appleworks was replaced by Pages which will not open appleworks files.
    So this is what I am asking the community...
    1. I would like to connect the old hardrive as an external drive so I can open these documents. What is the best way to do this?  Someone mentioned that I would need a "sled" which I suspect is an external casing that has it's own power and connects via USB.  I don't recognize the type of plug that I would need.
    2. The old apple computers could start up from the external hardrive connected to it. Is this still possible with the newer intel computers?
    I would appreciate anyone's suggestions or input.  Thank you...

    To use the HDD as an external drive you need and external drive enclosure. It would connect with your computer via USB or FW; my preference is to have it set up for both for flexibility .Check your computer ports to see what you need.
    When you buy the enclosure check to see whether it comes w/ the cables you need.
    A good source to check for the HD enclosures is: http://www.macsales.com/ If you're not sure of what you need just call them; they're very helpful.  There are other sources for these but OWC is my favorite.
    Your old HDD is probably bootable. Once you have the drive in the enclosure connect it to the computer.
    You can get some data, etc. from the old HDD to the new drive by clicking the ext. HD icon on the desktop to open & dragging whatever you want (or Copy/Paste) to your new HDD.
    Alternatively you can set the external drive as Startup Disk:
    Go to System Preferences>> Startup Disk.  Your new external drive should show there. Click on new drive and Restart. When the computer has rebooted the external HDD (with old HDD) will now be  the Startup Disk. Until you change it again in System Preferences.
    Do you have the appleworks software disks?  You could install that on the new HD, and just move the files from the external HD to the new drive---or is that part of the plan?
