Tomcat deployment - help!

Hi everybody,
My application works perfectly on the bundled server but when I deploy it to Tomcat I get an error. I added the JSTL libraries as explained in the deployment example but I think the error comes from the code as there is a nullpointerexception! I am new to java please help me with some directions...
The full error message is the following:

PS: Is it not possible to install Tomcat in the IDE instead of the bundled server?

I too am having a similar problem, when i build / dist to the server directley it works fine but if i put the war file in the webapps directory and explode it the application doesn't work.
I looks like it is not referenceing the JSF libraries properly. Im currently tring to fix this problem i will let you know if i get i done.
You may want to try installing the server you are tring to deploy to on your build machine and seeing if when you build straight on to it (like your bundled server) your probelem still persists, if not then it might be that you have the same problem as me with the exploding war files not being set-up how you want them to be.

  • FILENOTFOUNDEXCEPTION while reading property files in Tomcat 6------Help me

    Hi All
    I am planning to migrate my web application from iplanet 4.1 to tomcat 6. In this process I need to read the properties files initially.
    for eg: i got the property files in a iPlanet:
    Config directory---
    abc.properties.---
    abc.log--
    In tomcat I configured them in web.xml saying that.
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>ABC</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>com.ijk.abc</servlet-class>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>Loan</param-name>
    <param-value>/WEB-INF/config</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>loan.props</param-name>
    <param-value>/WEB-INF/config/abc.props</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <init-param>
    <param-name>loan.log</param-name>
    <param-value>/WEB-INF/config/abc.log</param-value>
    </init-param>
    <load-on-startup>1</load-on-startup>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>ABC</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    I need to read initially all the property files and then proceed.
    While configuring in this way, it am getting error saying that
    abc.props or abc.log..............(FILE NOT FOUND EXCEPTION)
    Can anyone suggest me how to configure them.
    Thanks in Advance.

    Thanks for your response, Actually we dont have the source code for that because it is very old code, but i m using decompiler in which i can get some informtaion.
    OS used for iPlanet is Unix but now I need to deploy this application in tomcat in windows server 2003.

    Right now, i placing it in the WEBAPPS/MYWEBAPPLICATION/WEB-INF/LOAN/abc.props,abc.logs.
    Its giving me errors such as FILENOTFOUNDEXCEPTION or cannot read the property files.
    The main problem is ...I donot have the complete source code. while decompiling i m not able view complete source code.
    Please help me regarding this.........

  • Next record Error in Tomcat deployment of business component

    I built a simple business component project for Dept in Scott table. I created a JSP client, mainly following the tutorial in Jdeveloper. Then I ran main.jsp in JDeveloper. This ran fine. I selected the deptview. I was able to scroll through department using next record arrow.
    I deployed this application in Tomcat using the deployment profile as webapplication to web sever. When I run this, the main.jsp runs fine. I am also able to go to the deptview. When I try to scroll through the records using the next record arrow the top portion says page can not be found. Insert record works fine.
    When I select insert record it seems to go to http://localhost:8080/sssdept1/jspsdept1_html/DeptView_Insert.jsp.
    When I try to use the next record arrow it seems to go to http://localhost:8080/jspsdept1_html/DeptView_Top.jsp?DeptView_NAVIGATE=NEXT.
    I think that this path is missing the sssdept1 folder. I am not sure how to add this to the usebean. Can anybody help?

    Can you be more specific?
    Which JSP page?
    Should I work in Jdeveloper or in the created files?

    hello all,
    The other way around to bypass this problem is by pasting the *.war file to the webapps directory of tomcat.
    In that way tomcat can extract it.
    problem solved!

  • Tomcat deployment problems

    Hi,
    I have an application developed in JSC2_1 and migrated to VWP/NetBeans which I can run nicely on Sun Java Application Server 9.1. But I am trying to deploy it on tomcat server (5.5.17.,5.5.20) over few weeks. I even assembled tomcat server 6.0.14 and added jstl.jar, jsf-api.jar, jsf-impl.jar and tools.jar (from sun java jdk1.6.0_01) to the common library. Initially I got errors which I rectified. Now if I browse with mozilla firefox I see two panels and images and buttons are not loaded. If I use IE7 I find nothing. Log files do not show any error at all...Can anyone help with these deployment problems with tomcat??
    thanks in advance.

    I have deployed my JSC 2.1 app to Tomcat 5.5.17 servers.
    My app is running on XP Pro (development server) and WIndows 2000 Server (deployment).
    I'm using MySQL as the database server.
    Did you export your WAR file as J2EE 1.4?

  • Sysdeo/tomcat deployment problems in 10.1

    I recently had to reinstall workshop and have upgraded to 10.1 at the same time.
    I have a problem in that after starting the server, one of two things happen:
    1) often the first start of the session works fine but subsequent starts do not complete - it seems to be getting stuck in the "create sysdeo" files. If I cancel this then the deploy continues, albeit that the app fails as it cannot find external libraries.
    2) sometimes on starting a new session, I have noticed that the app rebuilds with errors. This seems to be because it "looses" any defined server runtimes so everything has to be redefined.
    Note that this workspace was "converted" from an earlier version.
    Has anyone else had similar problems?
    Thanks in advance
    Ian

    ok well I reinstalled workshop with no plugins.
    It asked to upgrade my existing projects and then once done I could successfully startup the server.
    sysdeo did its job and the server process worked.
    Then the ultimate test - restart the server.
    Once again the server failed to restart. I left it for several minutes.
    Looking at the outstanding tasks, it states them as
    Starting Server Tomcat v5.5 @localhost
    Building workspace (Waiting)
    OK
    Create Sysdeo DevLoader Files (Waiting)Again the system just hangs. In fact since there are no plugins, it now hangs first time in a session rather than second time.
    At this point, there are no errors in the log files other than missing plugins (as I said in my last post I thought I would not install the plugins in case they were an issue.
    In the wstudio log files the following error occurs every time
    24-Jul-2007 16:51:24 com.m7.wide.eclipse.jstudio.Plugin activate

    I have also noticed that it has created a devloader_context.xml in META-INF. Though this was initially set to something, the starting of the session has reset it to an empty file simply containing <Context></Context>. If it is using this file I cannot see that Tomcat would be too pleased!

  • Applet doesn't run with Tomcat - please help!

    Hello!
    I have a problem with running an applet in Eclipse IDE, using J2EE and a Dynamic Web Project and a Tomcat server.
    The directory structure is:
    ProjectName
    - Java Resources->PackageName->AppletName.java
    - built->classes->PackageName->AppletName.class
    - WebContent->index.html
    In my index.html page I put this code:
    <applet code="PackageName.AppletName" width="500" height="200"></applet>
    If I run this applet like a simple Java Applet, it runs.
    But If I run this on server, my browser doesn't show me anything. I've try several posibilities, but it doesn't work. I should do some configurations on my Tomcat or I wrote something wrong on in my index.hml code, or my AppletName it isn't a simple java class?
    Thank you for your time!
    Adina

    My index.html is in WebContent, so I've already put the AppletClass.class there.
    I've tried with a jar and if I run this on server it doesn't work either. I don't know if there is any Tomcat->server.xml settings...
    It's so frustrating...
    Any ideas?

  • Messaging working in BlazeDS deployed on Windows Tomcat but failing in Tomcat deployed on Ubuntu

    I have been going round and round on this for days. I have no idea how to solve it. Everything works fine in windows but now I have to move to Ubuntu. I set up a streaming server with BlazeDS which is messaging to my clients great when my war is in tomcat 7 on windows but is failing in tomcat 7 on Ubuntu.
    I see my client connect to BlazeDS on Ubuntu. The DEBUG messages print out that I have a client subscribed. It says that I have one FlexSession for an id and one client subscribed to streaming-amf. Then, a few seconds later, it says that the client sent a duplicate request "streaming-amf recieved a duplicate sreaming connection request from, FlexClient with id ... Faulting request."
    Next the log files print out that there are no streaming clients for the FlexSession and no streaming clients for the endpoint streaming-amf.
    This is the same software that works fine in the Windows Tomcat container but is not in Ubuntu Tomcat even though the WAR is exactly the same. In case it helps, my config files and calls are below:
    messaging-config.xml
        <destination id="sp-streamingchannel">
                           <properties>
                <network>
                    <session-timeout>0</session-timeout>
                    <throttle-inbound policy="ERROR" max-frequency="50"/>
                    <throttle-outbound policy="REPLACE" max-frequency="500"/>
                </network>
                <server>
                    <allow-subtopics>true</allow-subtopics>
                    <subtopic-separator>.</subtopic-separator>
                    <max-cache-size>1000</max-cache-size>

                </server>
            </properties>
                <channels>
                 <channel ref="streaming-amf"/>
                </channels>
               <adapter ref="SPStreamingAdapter"/>
               </destination>
    services-conf.xml
        <channel-definition id="streaming-amf" class="mx.messaging.channels.StreamingAMFChannel">
                  <endpoint url="http://localhost:8080/SP-Web-1.0/messagebroker/spamf" class="flex.messaging.endpoints.StreamingAMFEndpoint"/>
                        <properties>
                            <idle-timeout-minutes>0</idle-timeout-minutes>
                            <max-streaming-clients>150</max-streaming-clients>
                            <server-to-client-heartbeat-millis>5000</server-to-client-heartbeat-millis>

                          <user-agent match-on="AdobeAIR" kickstart-bytes="2048" max-streaming-connections-per-session="2" />
                </user-agent-settings>
                        </properties>
              </channel-definition>
    The calls in Flex:
    public var channelDest:String = "http://98.193.212.138:8080/SP-Web-1.0/messagebroker/spamf";
    private var channelName:String = "streaming-amf";
    channelSet = new ChannelSet();
    channel = new StreamingAMFChannel(channelName, channelDest);
    var c:StreamingAMFChannel = new StreamingAMFChannel();
    channelSet.addChannel(channel);
    channel.connect(channelSet);
    consumer = new Consumer();
    consumer.destination  = "sp-streamingchannel";
    consumer.channelSet = channelSet;
    consumer.subtopic = "table." + tableID;
    consumer.subscribe();
    Why would this work fine on one server but fail on the other? Thanks so much for any help you can offer.
    While it may not be releavnt to this question, I do have remoting working fine with BlazeDS on both systems. When my app starts, the user has to log in. All of that is done with BlazeDS and is working fine on both Win and Ubuntu. I only have a problem when it comes to streaming with BlazeDS as is shown above.

  • Ergent problem with the jsp file access in tomcat. HELP...

    I use tomcat as my server, I have one JSP file located in :
    webapps\abc\war\WEB-INF\jsp\index.jsp
    You see my project name is abc, I want to access the index.jsp file, I define another jsp file in the path: webapps\abc callled outside.jsp. I want to use outside.jsp to invoke the index.jsp.
    Inside outside.jsp it is :
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>index</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <%@ include file="war/WEB-INF/jsp/index.jsp" %/>
    </body>
    </html>
    When I open the browser, and access, http://localhost:8080/abc/outside.jsp , the content of index.jsp was shown as expect. But, all the link pages of the index.jsp can not shown (PS: the link pages is located in the same path as index.jsp, they are all jsp files). I guess the problem may be that the <%@ include file="war/WEB-INF/jsp/index.jsp" %/> inside outside.jsp include the index.jsp as a static file. Is there any method to make all the link pages of index.jsp can be shown when call from outside.jsp???HELP

    I don't know why your links can't be shown, but I can tell you that your suspect:
    I guess the problem may be that the <%@ include file="war/WEB-INF/jsp/index.jsp" %/> inside outside.jsp include the index.jsp as a static file.is wrong, because included jsp is dynamic, not static.

    Could you post the code for your DemoBean?
    I suspect that you are using a really old tutorial on EJB where the EJBContext, SessionContext or EntityContext were declared transient. This was, I believe, the case with EJB 1.0. You would need to remove the transient from the context declaration, if that is the case.

  • LDAP + SSL + tomcat- Please help!

    Please help I searched the whole site, i m new to JNDI, Security and E-directory, all I got was confusion, and lots of exception.
    Here's my problem, I trying to run a web application on tomcat web server. I have a login.html, for users to login to my application. Currently all username and password are stored Novell e-directory. Currently I have the following Code.
    <%@page import="javax.naming.*"%>
    <%@page import="javax.naming.directory.*"%>
    <%@page import="java.util.*"%>
    <%@page import=" java.lang.*"%>
    <%@page import="java.security.*"%>
    <%
    String uid = request.getParameter("user");
    // Set up the environment for creating the initial context
    Hashtable env = new Hashtable();
    env.put(Context.INITIAL_CONTEXT_FACTORY, "com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory");
    env.put(Context.PROVIDER_URL, "ldap://10.1.1.199:636/o=hcfhe");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PRINCIPAL, "cn=ldapbrowse, ou=it, o=hcfhe");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_CREDENTIALS, "ldapbrowse");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_PROTOCOL,"ssl");
    env.put(Context.SECURITY_AUTHENTICATION, "simple");
    env.put("java.naming.ldap.factory.socket","javax.net.ssl.SSLSocketFactory");
    env.put("java.naming.ldap.version","3");
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore", "c://j2sdk1.4.0//jre//lib//security//cacerts");
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", "changeit");
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStore", "c://j2sdk1.4.0//jre//lib//security//cacerts");
    System.setProperty("javax.net.debug","all");
    // Create the initial context
    try {
    DirContext ctx = new InitialDirContext(env);
    System.out.println("Is it binding..................");
    SearchControls ctls = new SearchControls();
    ctls.setSearchScope(SearchControls.SUBTREE_SCOPE);
    NamingEnumeration results = ctx.search("", "(cn="+ uid +")", ctls);
    SearchResult sr = (SearchResult)results.nextElement();
    String dn = sr.getName();
    //String mycon = ((SearchResult)answer.next()).getName();
    System.out.println("DN" + dn);
    // ... do something useful with ctx
    if(dn != null) {
    response.sendRedirect("index2.html");
    ctx.close();
    } catch (NamingException e) {
    System.err.println("Problem getting attribute:" + e);
    e.printStackTrace();
    %>
    I am trying to authenticate my users over SSL to e-directory, and HERE'S where i am totally lost(BTW i can connect to my LDAP directory without SSL. My Network adminsistrator has given me a certificate from the server called SSLMASTER.DER, which I tried install in file called CACERTS in java_home\jre\lib\security using keytool. An it seems like its there using keytool -list command.
    and edited the server.xml:
    <Connector className="org.apache.tomcat.service.PoolTcpConnector">
    <Parameter name="handler" value="org.apache.tomcat.service.http.HttpConnectionHandler"/>
    <Parameter name="port" value="8443"/>
    <Parameter name="socketFactory" value="org.apache.tomcat.net.SSLSocketFactory"/>
    <!--<Parameter name="keystore" value="C:/jakarta-tomcat-3.2.4/conf/.keystore" />-->
    <Parameter name="keystore" value="C:/j2sdk1.4.0/jre/lib/security/cacerts" />
    <Parameter name="keypass" value="changeit"/>
    <Parameter name="clientAuth" value="true"/>
    </Connector>
    Now I start re-start tomcat, and type in the following URL
    http://localhost:8080/college_register/uk/ac/havering-college/index122.html, then i enter the username and password, when submitted it goes to the above java code or even if i do https://localhost:8443/college_register/uk/ac/havering-college/index122.html. I still get the error below.

    Get a copy of your ldap server's public certificate. Use keytool to import (and create) that cert into a truststore. Configure the ssl props to use the new truststore.

  • Wierd performance in tomcat/java: help consult

    hello
    after to test my project in tomcat 5.5.23 and jdk 5 update 12
    in network(intranet-only until now with 2 clients) i see that this is fast, after of a some time i can see a wonderful exception
    related with java heap exception thrown by the tomcat
    after to search in google, i found the solution for windows
    (server works with windows XP SP2) related to give some values
    for memory ram values to the tomcat5w.exe
    http://computerlabsolutions.com/supp...hp#performance
    i only did the second step
    according to this
    >
    Click on the Java tab, and enter 128 in the Initial Memory Pool, and 350 or 400 in the Maximum Memory Pool.Leave the other field blank.
    so my values are
    128 in the Initial Memory Pool
    400mb Maximum Memory Pool
    the point is that the server is a intel dual core with 3ghz for each , and has DDR2 512 MB of ram
    ok, its works, the point is that after to restart the server, the system is fast again,
    but then again after of some time the performance go to very slow
    if i do ctrl+ alt+ del to see the performance of the pc related with the ram
    i taked a picture when start the wierd performance
    my ram go to 645MB and swap 46200KB
    i thought if i stop to use the system/application(5 minutes),
    i can give the chance to the java or tomcat to get and free
    some resources
    well not the ram go to 640MB and swap to 45276KB
    of course if i shutdown my tomcat
    i have now these values
    RAM 319MB and swap 44564KB
    is normal this?,
    i dont think so
    some important suggestion/advice by our members??
    BTW: i am using pool connections related with the db area
    thanks so much for advanced

    I suspect you are paging. You've allowed the Java object heap to grow to 400MB, but you need physical memory for other things (the executable, thread stacks, the operating system, etc.) I think what you are seeing is that performance is good until you start to page the Java virtual machine, at which point performance probably hits a wall. And having things slow down can cause queues to back up, retransmissions to happen, etc, increasing your memory load and making things worse.
    Either buy more memory, or try tuning that 400MB down to a level that your machine can sustain. If you have GC logs, you can tell how much live data you have, which could help you choose an appropriate value for the maximum memory pool.

    Regards,

    1. Re-test your connection from JDev to AS and it must success.
    I suggest to create a new OC4J instance on AS and fill
    the instance name on the dialog window while
    creating AS Connection on JDev. i.e OC4J instance name (optional)
    2. For JDev 9.0.5.x/10.1.2 using AS 9.0.4,
    don't forget to install ADF Runtime Libraries on AS.
    3. Make sure your AS support JDK/J2SE version as in JDev.
    JDev 10.1.2 need AS to use JDK version 1.4.2_04-b05.
    You can download it from http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/1.4.2_04/index.html
    and install it.
    To cek your ORACLE_HOME/jdk/bin/java -fullversion
