Too many nested if?

Hi all,
Please take a look at the code and tell me does the code contain too many nested if?  It is not done yet, but it is supposed to be a subvi that convert one type of floating point format to another type.  There are many exceptions that I need to check.  Also, I am converting from c to labview, so in c the program has a lot of if, elseif, else, etc in it.
Should I make it a state machine instead?  However, it seems slower to do a state machine.  Please give me some sugestion.
Also, how do I make all the condition more obvious?  Since all the case structures are nested, it is hard to see the big picture unlike text base.

Hi all,
I have attached the c code that I am trying to convert (starting on page 71).  I ended up using the state machine.  I created a case for each condition, and inside these cases, I would do my condition check.  I ended up having to use a case structure inside each case.  Not sure is that the best way or not.  I should be able to post some code up for review tomorrow.

  • Flash hangs because of too many nested symbols

    I am trying to create an Flash application where areas expand
    when the user pushes a button which pushes the rest of the GUI down
    as it expands. To accomplish this, I have every line of the GUI (it
    is a chart-looking interface) nested in the symbol above it,
    creating nested movieclip, inside of nested movieclip, etc. This
    way when the user clicks to expand the section to view more
    details, it will move down all the symbols. Eventually this causes
    my Mac g5 to hang indefinitely when trying to put the last groups
    together.
    Do you think it is the many nested symbols that are causing
    this? They go as far as 9 deep sometimes. My 400KB fla file will
    end up taking 1 GB of memory and spiking the CPU at 100%, and, of
    course, is not responding. Thank you.

    Make an official bug report on this. I and a few others have
    experienced the identical problem, using PCs, but are unable to
    supply sample files for Adobe to test due to confidentiality
    restrictions. If you can supply Adobe with your sample file, maybe
    they can figure out the problem and fix it.
    By the way, the problem never occurred for me in previous
    versions of Flash.
    Please report it here ASAP:

  • Too many nested loops in execution plan?

    Hi,
    i wonder about execution plan not indicating that access to some tables (for join) is in parallel.
    Please see this example:
    ------------------------ snip ------------------------------------
    drop table test_a1;
    drop table test_a2;
    drop table test_b;
    drop table test_c;
    drop table test_d;
    create table test_a1 (
    x number,
    y number,
    z number);
    create unique index testa1_pk on test_a1 (x);
    create table test_a2 (
    x number,
    y number,
    z number);
    create unique index testa2_pk on test_a2 (x);
    create table test_b (

    z number);
    create unique index testb_pk on test_b (y);
    create table test_c (

    create unique index testc_pk on test_b (z);
    create table test_d (

    z number);
    create unique index testd_pk on test_d (y);
    select
    a1.x a1_x,
    a1.y a1_y,
    a1.z a1_z,
    a2.x a2_x,
    a2.y a2_y,
    a2.z a2_z,
    b.x b_x,
    b.y b_y,
    b.z b_z,
    c.x c_x,
    c.y c_y,
    c.z c_z,
    d.x d_x,
    d.y d_y,
    d.z d_z
    from test_a1 a1, test_a2 a2, test_b b, test_c c, test_d d
    where a1.x = 100
    and a2.x = 200
    and b.y = a1.y
    and c.z = b.z
    and d.y = a1.y;
    ------------------------ snap ------------------------------------
    The execution plan goes like this:
    Select Stmt
         nested loops
              nested loops
                   nested loops
                        nested loops
                             table access
                                  index
                                       access predicate
                                            a2.x = 200
                             table access
                                  index
                                       access predicate
                                            a1.x = 100
                        table access
                             index
                                  access predicate
                                       d.y = a1.y
                   table access
                        index
                             access predicate
                                  b.y = a1.y
              table acess
                   index
                        acess predicate
                             c.z = b.z
    Access to tables a1 and a2 is on the same level (in parallel - i guess).
    However, why isn't access to table d and b on the same level?
    Both depend on a1. So no need to execute one after the other (no inter-dependency).
    Maybe i have just wrong expectation to the output of the execution plan(?!)
    - many thanks!
    best regards,
    Frank

    Preservation of identation and spacing is invaluable when it comes to reading an explain plan.

    Access to tables a1 and a2 is on the same level (in parallel - i guess).
    Maybe i have just wrong expectation to the output of the execution plan(?!)You guess wrong, there's nothing parallel going on here.
    Execution plan is a tree of parent-child operations.
    For example, the NESTED LOOP at operation 4 has two children @ 5 and 7.
    Both of these operations- 5 & 7 - have a single child operation.
    The execution tree starts with operation 6, using the TESTA2_PK index to identify rows where A2.X=100.
    From this list of rowids, we go to the table TEST_A2 operation 5.
    The rows from operation five feed into the NESTED LOOP - operation 4.
    For each of these rows, we go to TEST_A1 via the index TEST_A1_PK for rows where A1.X=100.
    This is really a cartesian join because there's no join condition between the two tables.
    etc, etc, etc
    Three things in particular to point out.
    Firstly, that nothing joins to A2. So there will be a cartesian product - i.e. for every row in the result set between the joined tables A1, B, C and D, these will be multiplied by the number of rows returned by the the A2 rowsource.
    Secondly, when everything has got one or zero rows (or the optimizer thinks that it's one or zero rows), you can get very different plans from when there are known/thought to be more rows.
    Both depend on a1. So no need to execute one after the other (no inter-dependency).Thirdly, in terms of isolated join operations (ignoring A2 and C for the moment), A1 cannot join to B and D at the same time, you can either join A1 to B and then join the result of that to D, or join A1 to D then B, which is what you've got in your plan (well, actually we have A2 joined to A1 then the result of that joined to D and then the result of that to B).

  • Too many connections - even after closing ResultSets and PreparedStatements

    I'm getting a "Too many connections" error with MySQL when I run my Java program.
    2007-08-06 15:07:26,650 main/CLIRuntime [FATAL]: Too many connections
    com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Too many connections

            at com.mysql.jdbc.MysqlIO.doHandshake(MysqlIO.java:1182)
            at com.mysql.jdbc.Connection.createNewIO(Connection.java:2670)I researched on this and found out that I wasn't closing the ResultSet and the PreparedStatement.
    The JDBC connection is closed by a central program that handles connections (custom connection pooling).
    I added the code to close all ResultSets and PreparedStatements, and re-started MySQL as per the instructions here
    but still get "Too many connections" error.
    A few other things come to mind, as to what I may be doing wrong, so I have a few questions:
    1) A few PreparedStatements are created in one method, and they are used in a 2nd method and closed in the 2nd method
    does this cause "Too many connections" error?
    2) I have 2 different ResultSets, in nested while loops where the outer loop iterates over the first ResultSet and
    the inner loop iterates over the second ResultSet.
    I have a try-finally block that wraps the inner while loop, and I'm closing the second ResultSet and PreparedStement
    in the inner while loop.
    I also have a try-finally block that wraps the outer while loop, and I'm closing the first ResulSet and PreparedStatement
    in the outer while loop as soon as the inner while loop completes.
    So, in the above case the outer while loop's ResultSet and PreparedStatements remain open until the inner while loop completes.
    Does the above cause "Too many connections" error?
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    The following is relevant sections of my code ( it is partially pseudo-code ) that shows the above 2 cases:
    init( Connection jdbcConnection ){
       String firstSQLStatement = "....";
       PreparedStatement ps1 = jdbcConnection.prepareStatement( firstSQLStatement );
       String secondSQLStatement = "....";
       PreparedStatement ps2 = jdbcConnection.prepareStatement( secondSQLStatement );
       String thirdSQLStatement = "....";
       PreparedStatement ps3 = null;
       ResultSet rsA = null;
       try{
            ps3 = jdbcConnection.prepareStatement( thirdSQLStatement );
            rsA = ps3.executeQuery();
            if( rsA.next() ){
                   rsA.getString( 1 );
       }finally{
            if( rsA != null )
                   rsA.close();
            if( ps3 != null )
              ps3.close();
       //Notice, how ps1 and ps2 are created here but not used immediately, but only ps3 is
       //used immediately.
       //ps1 and ps2 are used in another method.
    run( Connection jdbcConnection ){
         ResultSet rs1 = ps1.executeQuery();
            try{
               while(rs1.next()){
                    String s = rs1.getString();
                    ps2.setString(1, s);
              ResultSet rs2 = ps2.executeQuery();
                    try{
                   while(rs2.next()){
                        String s2 = rs2.getString();
                    }finally{
                   if( rs2 != null )
                     rs2.close();
                   if( ps2 != null )
                     ps2.close();
         }catch( Exception e ){
              e.printStackTrace();
         }finally{
            if( rs1 != null )
                  rs1.close();
               if( ps1 != null )
                  ps1.close();
    //Notice in the above case rs1 and ps1 are closed only after the inner
    //while loop completes.
    }I appreciate any help.
    Thanks for your reply.
    I will look at the central connection pooling mechanism ( which was written by someone else) , but that is being used by many other Java programs others have written.
    They are not getting this error.
    An addendum to my previous note, I followed the instructions here.
    http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/too-many-connections.html
    There's probably something else in my code that is not closing the connection.
    But I just wanted to rule out the fact that opening a PreparedStatement in one method and closing it in another is not a problem.
    Or, if nested ResultSet loops don't cause the problem.
    I've read in a few threads taht "Too many connections" can occur for unclosed RS and PS , and not just JDBC connections.
    Put only files which needs to be 'shared' ( e.g persistent store files for jms, jta transaction store etc) on the network drive .. put all other files including logs on the local disk.. see if that makes a difference..
    NAS is slower than other storage setups like SAN and DAS...
  • ORA-02020: too many database links in use ; but OK with where clause...
    Hello all,
    I have a view called V_MEDGEN_LISTRADIO but I can't run
    SELECT * FROM V_MEDGEN_LISTRADIO
    ORA-02020: too many database links in useThe cause is that we call in the view 5 tables over dblink and the open_links parameter is set to 4.
    What is strange is that when I run this select by adding a where clause then it works!
    SELECT * FROM V_MEDGEN_LISTRADIO WHERE SPRR = 3645;Can someone explain me ? (use of index so all tables are not called ???)
    Thanks
    Explain plan for SELECT * FROM V_MEDGEN_LISTRADIO WHERE SPRR = 3645;
    Error executeQueryForObject returned too many results
    Typical Error msg:
    “SqlMapClient operation; uncategorized SQLException for SQL []; SQL state [null]; error code [0]; Error: executeQueryForObject returned too many results.; nested exception is java.sql.SQLException: Error: executeQueryForObject returned too many results”
    The error is caused for using queryForObject (for a single result) instead of queryForList (when expecting multiple results).
    Example of correct solution
    In DAO:
    public List<UpdatedContractRateDO> getUpdatedCtrctRate(Map paramMap) throws DataAccessException {
    return (List<UpdatedContractRateDO>) getSqlMapClientTemplate().queryForList("charge.getUpdatedCtrctRate", paramMap);
    }
  • Too many messages
    I have a email java app that sends mail in a loop for all the email address that it has in a list, it's not multithreaded yet. What I am seeing is this exception:
    1. First it throws this error message:
    com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: 421 #4.x.2 Too many messages for this
    session
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.issueSendCommand(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.mailFrom(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendMessage(Unknown Source)
    2. When it comes to process next email address, it throws this error message:
    com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPSendFailedException: [EOF]
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.issueSendCommand(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.mailFrom(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendMessage(Unknown Source)
    3. When it comes to process next email address that falls after the one in bullet # 2, it finally gives up and throws this message:
    javax.mail.MessagingException: Can't send command to SMTP host;
    nested exception is:
    java.net.SocketException: Broken pipe
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendCommand(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.sendCommand(Unknown Source)
    at com.sun.mail.smtp.SMTPTransport.issueSendCommand(Unknown Source)
    Everytime this happens, this is the pattern as I described above. I am just not getting why this should occur. I was planning to make this application multithreaded, but now I am not sure what it will do.
    Obviously your SMTP server is limiting the number
    of messages you can send in a single session (connection).
    If you control the SMTP server, you might want to change
    the limit. Otherwise, you'll need to change your code
    to disconnect occasionally and reconnect to send further
    messages.
  • Texts keep getting returned--too many digits error, pls help
    Hi, everyone!
    I upgraded to 4.3.3, yesterday so far no problems, except this morning my phone started to send me an error message every time I send a text and says "this message could not be sent, you've entered too many digits." How do I fix this? And the number it shows is an 11-digit number because it adds the 1...
    Does anyone know what I can do?
  • JDeveloperStudio 10.3 -- ADF  Faces -- Too many components causes crash
    My page has finally gotten so complex that the stack overflows and the application just aborts. I can remove a couple of components and the page works fine. It doesn't seem to matter which components I remove; when I navigate to the page the following appears in my Embedded OC4J Server log.
    Debugger connection to debuggee process has been lost.
    Process exited.
    Debugger disconnected from local process.
    The MyPagejspx.java file is over 500K and the class file is about 110K. If I remove some components and get the total MyPagejspx.java file under 500K then the page works again.
    The page includes a lot of MapViewer navigation controls and a number of tables that are used to display and edit attribute data. Most of these tables include nested tables inside of their detailStamps. Rows in a table of streets have tables of sites. This is where things start to fail.
    Sometimes (but not always) I get a message that tells me that could not find the StackOverflowError class so I have tried adding a -Xss1024k option to my Java options but this didn't help; neither did -Xss2048k.
    I am highly confident that the problem is not caused by the code itself as I can remove any panelGroup or panelForm set on the page and it works. I put any back and it fails. It is just too many components. Everything compiles fine but JDeveloper just disconnects from the application when the page is opened.
    So ... any ideas of what I might do to continue developing this page or do I have to break my application into more pages (not what the users want).
    Thanks, Mark
    This was easy enough to do without bothering with any database or tables. I created a bottom level include jspx as follows:
    Include-0.jspf
    <af:panelBox text="Bottom include file has 3 panelForms" >
      <af:panelHorizontal>
        <af:panelForm rows="1" maxColumns="1">
                        />
          <af:inputText label="Lorem ipsum" rows="3" wrap="true" readOnly="true"
                        value="Proin orci. Suspendisse cursus lobortis magna. Vivamus id tortor. Phasellus consectetuer, quam sit amet laoreet ultrices, tortor leo aliquet turpis, ut elementum nisi eros et nisl."
  • Too many songs - techniques?
    hey all;
    so I actually have an iPhone, but this thread is more iPod/music related.
    the bottom line is, I have way too many songs on iTunes for my 32GB iPhone. I've done the following:
    -downsample songs that have high bitrates to 19kbps (the lowest i'm wil;ing to accept, down from 256)
    -uncheck artists who have a lot of music but I don't listen to (that's you, death metal days...)
    -get rid of 45 minute songs and such that I don't listen to
    -delete most of the comedy stuff
    -get rid of apps that take up a lot of space
    -take off most of the photos and all of the videos
    i've managed to save a decent amount of space, but not much. I avoided a crises two months ago, but its impending again.
    the problem is, I'm not ready to part with much else and I'm quickly running out of room. Of the over 5400 songs in iTunes, about 5000 made it onto my iPhone.
    I'm really not willing to random shuffle the songs on my iPhone, and I do have nested folders with my most recent playlists etc.
    So my question really is, does anyone out there have any other techniques they use for trimming down what gets synced to their devices? any ideas are appreciated...
    thanks,
    ekozie
    This would be more appropriate in the iphone forum. Very few will see it here.
    We use playlists for our iphones. This allows us to sync whatever we feel like at the time, and can easily change our selections.
  • Unable to create report. Query produced too many results
    Hi All,
    Does someone knows how to avoid the message "Unable to create report. Query produced too many results" in Grid Report Type in PerformancePoint 2010. When the mdx query returns large amount of data, this message appears. Is there a way to get all
    the large amount in the grid anyway?
    I have set the data Source query time-out under Central Administration - Manager Service applications - PerformancePoint Service Application - PerformancePoint Service Application Settings at 3600 seconds.
    Here Event Viewer log error at the server:
    Hello,
    I would like you to try the following to adjust your readerquotas.
    Change the values of the parameters listed below to a larger value. We recommend that you double the value and then run the query to check whether the issue is resolved. To do this, follow these steps:
    On the SharePoint 2010 server, open the Web.config file. The file is located in the following folder:
    \Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\Web Services\PpsMonitoringServer\
    Locate and change the the below values from 8192 to 16384.
    Open the Client.config file. The file is located in the following folder:
    \Program Files\Microsoft Office Servers\14.0\WebClients\PpsMonitoringServer\
    Locate and change the below values from 8192 to 16384.
    After you have made the changes, restart Internet Information Services (IIS) on the SharePoint 2010 server.
    <readerQuotas
    maxStringContentLength="2147483647"
    maxNameTableCharCount="2147483647"
    maxBytesPerRead="2147483647"
    maxArrayLength="2147483647"
                  maxDepth="2147483647"
    />
    Thanks
