Too Much Code? Novice Question

Greetigns,
First off, know I searched for an answer but being that I am
new to the AS game (as well as programming in general) I coudl not
find an answer that suited my needs. I am using Flash CS3 w/ AS3
Basically I have a row of images that serve as thumbnails;
when I mouse over each thumbnail it changes the image in the
background of my movie clip.
I have assigend each thumbnail image an instance name and
created a simple function to swap the image out. Everything is
working great, and you can call me greedy, but I have a sneaking
suspission that I could accomplish my goal with far less code using
a variable.
Anyone care to teach me to fish? Code below.

    variable then insert, the problem is that you can have a student that have only one test other that have two etc..etc.. is not consistent, also If the b.sortest_tesc_code = 'BSV') is already in the table I don't do an insert I will have to do an update if the sortest_test_score is greater since the student can submit scores more than once... In another words check if the record exists( b.sortest_tesc_code = 'BSV') if is there compare with the new max score and if the new max score is greater then update.. If the score (by code) is not in the table insert

    Stateless session beans are usually faster, because each client's session is not stateful (therefore has to be handled by the container)
    Have you done some performance measurements on your application?
    Also, how are your session beans communicating with your entity beans?? Are you employing use of Local interfaces to communicate between session<-->entity? Do you have Value Objects that are being passed from session<-->entity? Using Value Objects between s<>e saves a lot of expensive remote calls (especially if you have to get/set a lot of fields)
    Each of these seemingly little decisions can impact your performance greatly.

  • Mabook pro 13 in. OSX Runs way too slow. Constantly Buffers Too much. Several questions in summary.

    I have a Macbook Pro 13 in. Running OSX 10.9.4
    Processor 2.5 GHz Intel Core i5
    Memory 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    I have always sworn by my Mac. It's the best. However in the last 5 months or so everything I do on my Mac take so much time because it runs so slow. My Mac buffers upon every command. It buffers when I move the mouse, every time i click the mouse, when i open app, close app, when I right click on apps, and it buffers at least one time every sentence when typing on word. I have repaired petitions or utilities in the disk utility. Seemed to help a bit but if it even did it was short lived. I haven't noticed it so bad until I installed Mackeeper and ran a few clean ups.(could/could not be relevant). I want to know also how to clean the mail caches from the Mail app and also Microsoft outlook. I read cleaning them out could help performance but I don't want to accidentally erase all of my mail. I do use the mail app heavily. Or rather I use to before my mac ran slow. Please help me to get my mac up and running fast and smooth like it did before. Mac use to get a little hot when not doing it's best before. in the bavk on the bottom, under the screen. However it doesn't run hot anymore, or lately anyway. Last few days has ran pretty good but today its back to it's worst. Thanks a million and any and all help is welcome. Thanks again.

    Remove "MacKeeper" as follows. First, back up all data.
    "MacKeeper" is a scam with only one useful feature: it deletes itself.
    Note: These instructions apply to the version of the product that I downloaded and tested in early 2012. I can't be sure that they apply to other versions.
    If you have incompletely removed MacKeeper—for example, by dragging the application to the Trash and emptying—then you'll have to reinstall it and start over.

    I think you are executing this code in a loop which is causing the problem. The rule is "Never put SELECT statements inside a loop".
    Try to rewrite the code as follows:
    * Outside the loop
    SELECT *
    from MSEG
    into table lt_mseg
    for all entries in itab
    where bwart = '102' AND
    lfbnr = itab-mblnr AND
    ebeln = itab-ebeln AND
    ebelp = itab-ebelp.
    Then inside the loop, do a READ on the internal table
    Loop at itab.
    read table lt_mseg with key bwart = '102'. "plus other conditions
    if sy-subrc ne 0.
    delete itab. "index is automatically determined here from SY-TABIX
    endif.
    endloop.
    I think this should optimise performance. You can check your code's performance using SE30 or ST05.

    It is working but with lot of delay, it takes too much of time.

  • Is it too much lines of code inside a class file?

    Hi,
    I was wondering about how many lines can be considered too much in a java class file. I saw some class files with more the two thousand lines of code and even more than three thousand lines. When we have so many lines in the code I've realized that the file becomes slow for edition and it's not readable as it should be. So, as a best practice, or even due to technical issues, in average how many lines of code we'd write in order to keep the readability and avoid compile and build issues? How many lines a class should have without putting our code and performance at risk ?

    My general rule of thumb--in a class everything shold be very consistent, that is to say: you should be focusing on 1 idea in your class. IMO: If you have a class for users, you need to consistent in just what that class does. When the class becomes large, then look for related themes that run through methods of that class, and if here are many, you should make a "related class" that does satelite functions of the "core" offered in the main user class.
    Thousands of lines do not a good class make, I break in to related categories of classes long before then, and as a rule I keep under 500 lines in a class--usually under 300. In any case, no more lines of code need go into a class than that to implement the core features in the main idea for that class--and no less lines of code than is needed too, don't religate a method to another class just becasue you feel it would make the class it belongs too big.
    Along the idea of the user class:
    Storage for the user data
    Home information
    Work information
    physical information
    tastes and preferences
    family
    and etc
    all of these could be a class in and of themselves, but definetely are closely related to the user class.

  • FPGA code using too much memory? getting error 52000

    Hi all,
       I'm having trouble getting some FPGA code to run. What I am trying to do with the program is acquire data using DAQmx from two fgen's, and then use an FPGA based lock-in amplifier to find the frequency of these signals and their phase difference (It's actually only a slight modification of a lock-in amplifier available on the NI site). I keep getting error 52000 when I start up the program, indicating I'm using up too much memory somewhere. I don't know why this is, as even the lowest sampling rates I give to the DAQ do not keep this problem from happening. Could someone look at my code to see whats going on?

    I am using a PXI-7852R card in a PXI-1033 chassis, all connected to my comp through a PCI bridge. I'm also using a PXI-6115 data acquisition card, which is feeding data to the FPGA.

  • For novice is Final Cut Express 4 too much

    i have delved into imovie for some basic movie editing... I would like more of a selection akin to what FCE 4 has to offer. For someone who edits movies as a hobby and for work (promo material) Is the learning curve too much.     For your use and self-stated beginner status, iMovie 6 should be more than adequate.
    I recommend that you do the Apple tutorials for whatever version of iMovie you use. Yes, you can have both iMovie 9 and 6 on the same computer; nice ability to use each for different purposes.

    In addition, for more effects/filters/transitions/titles etc, after you have become familiar with iMovie, you might want to have a look at GeeThree plug-ins. They work great for iMovie6....cannot be used in 8. http://www.geethree.com/slick/index.html
    (There are also GT plugins for FCE, if you ever choose to go that way).
    Remember that these discussions offer a wealth of knowledge and experience, so utilize the iMovie discussions frequently.

    I am not sure about placing two questions into one post, but here it goes:
    The error above  "SCRIPT5007: Unable to get property 'top' of undefined or null" is coming from this function:

    This is the effected code I believe that is causing the problem:

    the error occurs when I click on a "clear" button in my form. My website is one long page and that function allows my navigation to slide up and down the site. Without it, everytime you click a nav, it jumps to that anchor.
    For the 2nd problem, the too much recursion, the problem lies within here:

  • Creating a Survey - Novice Question

    Hello,
    I am extrememely new to Javascript.  I have been doing some research online and copy/pasting code to create the results I need.  I am trying to create an online survey in which users select buttons to answer questions and then the total results appear at the bottom of the survey.  So far this is what I have:

    The problem I have with this is that on each line, a user can select more than one box.  I don't want this so I thought radio buttons would be better.  I then came up with this:

    The problem with this is that with the function I am using, I can only get it to display the value of the first line.  I need it to calculate the sum of all the lines.

  • After Effects Ram Preview Drops Frames , Using Strangely Too Much Ram

    System Specs :
         CPU : Core i7 4770k
         Memory : 16 GB DDRIII
         Graphic Card : GTX 770 4GB RAM
         Storage : 256 GB SSD + 2 TB HDD
         OS : Windows 7 SP1
         Using After Effects CC 12.2.1.5
    NOTE : NOT ANY ADDITIONAL HARDWARE IS ATTACHED TO MY PC . NO SOUND RELATED EQUIPMENT NOR CAPTURE CARD NOR ANY THING ELSE
    Hi there
    As you Already Don't know I'm an After effects Specialist Using it for quite long time . There is an Ancient Problem with CS6 CC versions . I have a short Small size 1080p Video , about 8 MB , I drag it into project panel and then put it into timeline hence it creates a sequence . There are no Effects and nothing added to timeline , just a small simple video . The Strange Problem is when I click "0" for ram preview , The video starts playing and the green bar above timeline starts to fill . When Ram preview Finishes and plays the video from beginning I See there are several frames Between which are not being loaded to Ram ! The video plays RGB color bar instead of main video and when I check the Green bar above Timeline I see that those frames are being dropped and there is no Green bar above them !
    I have had this problem several times before but this time it is too important and the problem should be solved . What is obvious is that some frames are not being rendered or are being deleted after render !
    Another Strange problem is that when I open Task manager , It shows AE uses around 10 GB ! of RAM when I press "0" for Ram previewing this video !
    So there is a Logical explanation here , Somehow when I do ram preview this video it uses extra ordinary too much ram so AE is unable to load the full video (8 MB) into Ram and hence deletes some of frames .
    most of my videos have not this problem and use acceptable amount of ram .I've had this issue with some of my videos till now .
    Listen carefully : "This has nothing to do with AE preferences or low memory or plugins . because there is nothing wrong with any individual components of may hardware or software . I have far more than enough RAM for a 8MB video . My Memory has no hardware or software problem . I tested them and if there was any problem with memory or other hardware that should have affected other applications . I have the most recent AE version . I have the most Recent windows updates and drivers . I have a Clean virus free system , and as a computer engineer this strange AE problem is rarely caused by viruses , trust me . I have not any hardware instead of ones a normal PC has . I have not any problem with my whole entire system configuration because I have benchmarked my PC with several up to date softwares . I have tested my PC with almost any STRESS TESTING solutions available for really long period of time , 3 days by IDA64 . Not any driver conflict , dll missing , registry problem have been discovered , as I know perfectly how to solve them ."
    I asked some of my friend whom are expert in AE . I handed them my videos and Watched ALL OF THEM HAD THE SAME ISSUE ! So the problem isn't related to my Local PC . What i believe is that there is some malfunctioning or miss coded part in AE source code that decides to reserve such a huge strange amount of ram for such a tiny 8MB video . The point is that the AE works fine , no crash or any problem report . So the AE it Self decides to allocate such huge amount of ram and thinks it is correct ! So I think this is a work around that AE developers in adobe are using to bypass a problem or conflict ! by Using more amount of RAM . I think that there might be some miss understanding between the AE and my installed codec . I installed MEGA CODEC PACK on my PC to enable some new codec supports , and so are some of Windows default de/encoders changed to new ones . I think there shouldn't be any problem But there is something wrong between AE and de/encoder modules !
    Please any one with any suggestion , I really appreciate your advices .

    I think you hit the point ! Thats K-lite codec pack installed on every machine which the video is tested on ! The point is whats wrong with it ?! I have had never ever any problem with this codec pack !!!
    The deadly question : So what are the alternative ways to work with codecs that AE doesn't support ?! because installing codec looks simple and sufficient !

  • Too much drawRect

    Hi, i am developing some applications using almost 200 images..
    I have to make animation and i make the structure with NSTimer and drawRect.
    At the first time, i use UIImageView for images but it consume so many memories so i have to change [UIImage alloc] to just [setNeedsDisplay] using drawRect..
    But i already told u, i have to make animation with tiny time interval for drawrect, i think it make memory warning...
    so, my question is ..
    1. Too much calling drawRect makes memory warning?
    2. If then, how can i change the structure replace drawRect but use less memory..
    3. i use also accelerometer, another timers & other views, then it also makes memory warning?
    (But i guess the reason of memory warning is about drawRect, cuz i increase the calling of that method, suddenly memory warning got appear)
    Sorry for the fact that i cannot posting my codes.. but my app's structure is
    it has array stored in these images and when timer's called,
    it change it's previous index to change image what it loads on drawInRect..

    3- Set BFD to 16 bit while you're tracking, you don't need 24 bit resolution when you're tracking.
    This is the point that open my mind
    if Mario use BFD as a Multi-out Instrument goes to use 7 or more AUX channel.
    In this case he will not be able to stay in sync when tracking.... bacause AUX channel gives Latency in Live Midi tracking mode!
    When you are on tracking I suggest do not use BFD in Multi-Instrument mode and keep PDC at "Audio and Software Instrument Track" option
    I do not use BFD but I hope that this can be helpful
