Toolbar buttons work in preview, not in generated webhelp

I'm using RH 8.0.2 to generate webhelp.
I took advantage of a few snippets from Peter Grainge's site and have 3 new toolbar buttons for my project:
Here's where I need help.
1. Report an Issue links to a sharepoint site on our network. The link works fine, but displays inside the topic frame. What is the proper Inline JavaScript to open the sharepoint page in a new window? For ease of reply, say the link is http://www.mysite.com/issues/default.aspx
2. Send link by Email sometimes creates a draft email when I click it in the preview pane, but I haven't figured out the reproducible conditions. It doesn't seem to work in the generated files however. A similar issue seems to occur for the Copy Link to Clipboard button - sometimes works in preview, but not in generated webhelp.
Notes:
The Javascript I used for Send Link by Email, from Grainge's snippet 39, is:

Note, this script throws an error as you preview, 'window.parent.frames.1.frames.1.document is null or not an object.
The Javascript I used for Copy Link to Clipboard, from Grainge's snippet 114, is:

Simple buttons working in Preview, but not on iPad

Hello everyone. I have a Button (I'm working in InDesign CS6), with instructions "Go to State". It links to a photo on a seperate layer. The link works perfectly in the SWF preview (shift-command-return). But when I update the file to view it in Adobe Viewer it does not work. (I am using Viewer Vers 25) There are no other functions on the page that could be "blocking" it. In fact, on some pages where there are two or three buttons (all of them with instructions of "Go to State"), 2 may work and one not. I am confused as to how I can see it working in the Preview, but not on the iPad. Any suggestions appreciated. Many thanks!!

InDesign Cs5.5 Scrollbar, palettes, and toolbar buttons locked up (but not all)

Can anyone help me?? I have InDesign as part of Cs5.5. My scrolbars, palettes, and many toolbar buttons aren't working. I can't select the Selection tool, text wrap options, or put color to shapes as just some examples. I have looked all over the forums and web for help and can't find anything. I reset my preferences and reinstalled InDesign. My computer meets the requirements and I am running Windows Vista.

Interactive PDF–buttons working in preview but not in PDF

I have a series of buttons that reveal hidden graphics. One of those hidden graphics is a background layer, in a separate layer, that should appear when a button is clicked. It is showing up, but in front of all other content, even though the layer is in the background. I have nothing else on the background layer. Also, the preview in InDesign shows this working properly, it's the exported Interactive PDF that is having problems. Any suggstions?

Show/hide buttons can let you show and hide graphics which have been themselves turned into buttons. But in InDesign, they cannot control the visibility of layers. I think that's because of the way buttons are handled in the PDF file. I think the buttons themselves are seen as a separate layer above the "content" of the PDF.
You can change layer visiblity with buttons but not in InDesign. You have to do it in Acrobat.
Create your layers in InDesign. Export as a PDF but in the Export Adobe PDF dialog box, you must select Acrobat 6 compatibility and check Create Acrobat Layers. This takes InDesign layers and makes them PDF layers which you can work with in Acrobat.
You can either create the buttons in InDesign or in Acrobat, but controlling layer visibility isn't an available action in InDesign. So you'll need to change their action WITHIN ACROBAT.
In Acrobat, you can choose View > Navigation Panels > Layers. You can turn the eyes on and off to control visibility like in InDesign. Then set the layer visibility the way you want the first button to set and set the action for the first button to be Set Layer Visibility. When you click Add. It sets the visibility to the current state. Repeat the process for the second button.
In InDesign CS5, to export buttons you'll need to choose File > Export > Adobe PDF (Interactive). Check Acrobat Layers.

Email button works in preview mode but not when published to PDF

I thought I had cracked everything but - I have set preferences to email results to a specific address. In preview mode this works and outlook is opened with all the details. Once I have published to Acrobat 9 pdf - there is no response to the email button. If I play the SWF file I have the same problem. What am I doing wrong? Using Captivate 5 trial and Acrobat 9.3 Pro.

Captivate 5.5 javascript button working in preview but not on server

I attached javascript to a button to close the window ( javascript:window.close() ) It functions correctly on preview on my local machine but when I upload it to the LMS, it no longer functions. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

Interactive PDF in InDesign - works in Preview, not in export

Hello. I have a multi-state object set up. I've placed buttons over a central map on my page, with links to the proper multi-states in the object below. This works within the Preview Pane when I preview the interactivity. However, when i export non of the buttons bring up any multi-state.
Any ideas? What is changing between using the Preview pane within InDesign, and publishing the interactive PDF?
I'm using InDesign CS5.5 version 7.5.3

I ended up creating a separate page for each State of the Multi-State object. A pain, yes, but it works, then you create the same illusion, but just have the buttons set to jump to a page and not a "state" within the same page. The MSO's are not that fancy that they should require Flash. I hope that Adobe works on this to make Interactive PDFs more robust in functionality, and in how we prep files. Creating a separate page for each "state" exponentially increases the document size.

Previews not being generated

When I first set Aperture up during the trial, I left all the in the iPhoto library and referenced them. Since then I bought Aperture and now have it managing almost all of my masters (JPEG only at present).
Like some others on the forum, I noticed that I was having problems with images showing up in the 'Aperture library' in iWork/iLife. It seems that only the imported example projects (with previews already) are showing up.
I originally just entered the Serial Number into the Trial version but have since tried:
0) Rebuilding the library via Command-Option on launch
1) Updating Previews at various times both for the whole Library and for individual projects. If I delete all previews first then I can't even see the example projects in iLife/iWork.
2) Reinstalling from 1.5.1 on DVD and using Software Update
3) Removing Aperture, deleting all the receipts and reinstalling again
4) Repairing permissions
5) Deleting the library and recreating it from a Vault
6) Adjusting the preview size and quality and currently have it at 1280x1280 at 6
7) Importing the library as a different user: lots of time 'generating previews' but no more success.
During this process, I decided to investigate properly inside my Aperture library and noticed that it does not seem to generate previews at all for me (despite 'Processing previews' in the 'Task list' window). ApertureData.xml seems to only contain ImagePath entries for the example projects (unless I deleted their previews during the troubleshooting process)
At one stage I wondered whether it was connected with my camera as pictures from my (and other people's) Canon A95 seem to need to be imported via iPhoto before Aperture will read them properly. However, photos from a different (JPEG) camera do not form previews and nor do the IR RAW files mentioned recently on this forum (and generating all new previews from the example projects does not work).
Except for the previews (and the Fullscreen filmstrip window popping up over other windows when in workspace layout, but that's another issue) my experience so far with Aperture has been very positive.
Can anyone suggest anything else to try? TIA.
I notice that every time I start Aperture it claims to be processing all my previews. If I try a slideshow, it seems to get stuck 'Rendering Previews' as the progress bar does not advance (including an example project with previews deleted). Of course, the slideshow works for the example projects with their original previews intact.

That I would accept as the reason if it weren't for the fact that they generate the thumbnail preview inside the 'get info' panel for the file (and I have seen these thumbnails generated by Finder in the past inside Finder windows and on my desktop).
What I see going on here is that files that have been 'claimed' in launch services by either Emacs.app or DrScheme.app display this problem and scheme files did generate the proper thumbnail previews in the past and continue to do so today... I just looked at a scheme file in 'get info' and watched the twirling icon twirl and then be replaced by the preview thumbnail:

There seems to be no technical difficulty in generating the thumbnail preview in the 'get info' panel.
Unfortunately, I don't have a machine with a fresh install of the OS lying around, so I can't verify my memory of seeing these previews being attached to the file types in question. I'll have to wait and see next time I get a new mac (I won't wipe my current set up just to do this... the icon problem doesn't bother me that much)!

DVD buttons work in preview but completely different on DVD

Just finished a big project, everything seemed to work fine, made a couple of additions and everything checked out, all the buttons activated the correct video segment from the chapter markers on the timeline that I exported from PP, but when I play the DVD the buttons activate the wrong chapters, any ideas?

This is odd behavior indeed. The navigation that performs correctly in Preview should do so when burned to disc.
Let's look at a few possibilities and ways to test, then probably time for some specific questions:
1.) Instead of a Burn to Disc, instead Burn to Folder. This will create a VIDEO_TS folder with the proper BUO, IFO and VOB files inside. Use a DVD software player, like CyberLink's PowerDVD, or the great, free MediaPlayer Classic HC to fully test that VIDEO_TS folder. Do you get good, and proper playback and navigation there?
2.) Do you have any Overrides set anywhere? Be careful in checking, as so many places allow for one to set an Override. All of those myriad places need to be "Not Set."
What brand of blank media are you using?
What is the burn speed used?
Where are you testing the disc, where the navigation is all wrong?
Can you check all End Actions, to make sure that they are 100% correct?
Are you using Chapter Playlists?
Are all of your Chapters on a common Timeline? If so, are there ANY gaps in the Video, say where they butt up to each other.
If all on a common Timeline, are ALL Audio Tracks 100% exactly the same length as the Video, or slightly shorter, down to the Audio Units?
Do you have any long Asset names, any spaces in the Asset names, or any special characters in the Asset names?
If we are still batting 0, can you post a screen-cap of your Flowchart? Be sure to keep the JPEG (or PNG) quality high, so we can read the links clearly. Be sure to point out which links are not working, as they should.

[Partially SOLVED] Wiimote buttons work, motion does not...

Followed all the tutorials on the wiki and the wiimote is recognized just fine... all the buttons seem to work (terminal shows output when I press dpad, A, B, +, -, home, 1 and 2) but I am not getting any motion out of moving it in the air. I have a wireless sensor bar and wmgui detects everything just fine... just not sure what I'm mising config-wise that is not allowing me to move the cursor around the screen as I move the wiimote through the air. Any and all help is appreciated!

seriously interested in getting this to work properly with the sensor bar! I just tested the dolphin-emu that is in the AUR repo... can confirm this build works with Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit! Renders In-game and menu graphics just fine, cinematics are a bit screwy, and sound seems fine... plays a little sluggish on my dual-core (2.1) AMD laptop w/ 8GB DDR3 (but that might be due to the rom being on a flash drive and not the internal SSD). Hope development is still continuing! Haven't tested any GameCube games yet... If anyone knows of a good tool to rip GC games with, I'd be more than happy to play with it.

Buttons work on webpage, not on CDRom site

i have built a simple mp3 player, shown in the website
www.nevereleven.com - the
little red thing down the bottom called "neverplayer". It works
fine over the net (as hopefully you'll see; if it doesn't let me
know!)
A subset of the site contents need to be distributed on
CDRom, including the "neverplayer", the only difference being that
it will play the full length tracks rather than short samples.
The mp3s are loaded externally (not embedded in the flash
file).
The problem is, when it is run from CDRom,
in one particular case, (works fine on all machines i've
tested on, doesn't work on client's machine!!! of course) the
little buttons do not display! (skip tracks, stop, pause, etc - the
bottom row.) They still function correctly if you mouse over and
click them - but of course it's hard to find them if you don't know
they're there. Everything else about the player still works fine
too.
The machine that it doesn't work on is running XP... not sure
what browser or other specific settings. I've tested on XP machines
using both IE and Firefox and it works for me everywhere else -
just this one isolated case (so far, hopefully not the majority of
the audience when it goes public!).
Anyone have any ideas on what might be going on here?

Then it sounds like something is wrong with those Sub-picture Highlights.
Could you Open that problem Menu in Photoshop, open the Layers Palette, and twirl open your Button Layer Sets, showing all the elements, then post a screen-cap? Maybe someone will be able to see the issue.

Buttons work in Safari-Not in IE or Firefox

I've got a homepage created in Dw8 that has 2 Flash buttons
whose rollover animation was created in Flash8. However, I added
behaviors to the buttons in Dw, "onClick goTo URL". They bring up
other pages with video that are in the same folder on the server.
They work OK in Safari but not in IE or Firefox. Any ideas
why?

I'd take all the elements that make up the button, and convert that into a symbol. Then you can go to labels with your code without worrying about the main timeline. Put all your code on the elements themselves, and not on the symbol instance.

By default, the hit area of a div in HTML is its bounding box. Right off the top of my head, I'm not sure there's a way to change it...maybe someone else can chip in?

Buttons work in Flash not in test Movie

The buttons are simple roll-overs that goto a labeled page in
the timeline. Simple. I've done hundreds. Have no clue why this is
happening. They work when "enable simple buttons" is activate but
when I "Test Movie" the roll-overs don't work and neither does the
action script that sends it to a certain "page". Here is the code.
Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks

first. Is this code on the actual button? or is it placed on
a frame?
second. you mentioned that your roll over does not work. but
the code you provided doesnt check for roll over...it checks for
release.
third. Are your frame labels correctly named? it can happen
quite often that a simple spelling mistake can be the cause of
annoying headaches.
Let me know how it goes, and we'll go from there.

"Send email" works in preview, not after publishing

I have been asked to have our learners' quiz results emailed,
as we don't have an LMS. I can get an email to generate in preview
mode, but once I publish the file, the email button becomes
non-functional. In the message area of the browser a message
saying, "Error on page." is displayed. Any ideas would be
appreciated.

Flash Gallery working in preview, not once uploaded to site

i would really appreciate some help! i am new to dreamweaver, and i have uploaded flash galleries i created in bridge to my site in dreamweaver. i used an iframe within a divtag and everything worked great in the previews, but once i upload the site to my server, the galleries are not showing up. anyone have any ideas about how to fix this?? thanks so much in advance!!
