ToolTip for tree node

I am using DefaultMutableTreeNode object as tree node
But for this object there is no method for setting tToolTipText
So anybody know that how to set tool tip for tree node

You're going to want to look at the cell renderer. That secretly returns a jlabel.
The JLabel can have a tooltip set for it.

  • How to hide default tooltip for tree nodes?

    I have an af:tree.
    When a node contains a long string, the tree automatically creates a horizontal scroll bar to accomodate it.
    But when I hover my mouse on top of the node, a tooltip is coming showing the complete text of the node.
    Because of this I cannot drag and drop this node.
    Is there anyway to hide this?

    Still can't get rid of the tooltip the layout is:
    <af:panelStretchLayout>
        <f:facet name="center">
            <af:panelSplitter>
                <f:facet name="first">
                   <af:panelAccordion>
                       <af:showDetailItem stretchChildren="first">
                           <af:tree>
                           </af:tree>
                       </af:showDetailItem>
                   </af:panelAccordion>
                </f:facet>
            </af:panelSplitter>
        </f:facet>
    </af:panelStretchlayout>Which should be pretty fine in terms of geometry management.
    If I move the splitter too much to the left the whole label can not be displayed => a tooptip pops, which prevents the node from being clicked.
    Maybe the lables have to wrap in some way instead of stay 'under' the splitter.
    Same behaviour with or without af:panelCollection wrapping the af:tree.

  • JTree- seperate tooltip for each node

    hi,
    i would like to have different tooltips for different nodes. in all tutorials they have given the method of assinging tooltip in a general class i.e. setting a tooltip for all leaf nodes etc.. But i would like to have seperate tooltip for each node.
    thanx

    hi,
    Doing both of the above tasks will lead to have a tooltip same for all nodes. But i need all the toltips to be different for different leafs.
    However i solved that problem using mouseListeners and getPath() method..
    Now i have another problem. when i move my mouse over any leaf node(not necessarily selecting just on moving over the text) i would like to change the color of the text of that particular node to another color. If i use renderer to do this then it may change the color of all the nodes.
    how it could be done for only a particular node and not for all. Aren't there any renderers for nodes.
    thanx

  • ToolTip for each node of the Tree in JTreeTable?

    Hello! I have the problem that a ToolTip i have set in the TreeCellRenderer would not been displayed! Only one ToolTip will pop up over the JTreeTable with the ToolTipText that was set in the first CellRenderer. Does everybody have an idea?

    OK! Its done! The solution does not help exact, but it gives my the way! With the coordinates of the MouseEvent I can get the Value of the current table row and set the ToolTip text new. Teh ToolTipManager automatically repaints the ToolTip whit the new text and position.

  • Context menu for tree node cannot be accessed in IE 8 (Jdev 11.1.2)

    We use an af:tree with context menus for performing operations on each node. In IE 8 when you hover over a node before right clicking, "tooltip" text appears which basically just re-displays the text of the node. Even though the tooltip text is annoying, the context menu worked fine in 11.1.1.4, but now in 11.1.2 when you right-click on that tooltip text you get the "normal" browser context menu for text -- we no longer get our custom context menu.
    You can see this same problem on the tree in the rich faces demo: http://jdevadf.oracle.com/adf-richclient-demo/
    Sometimes, if you're quick enough, you can get the custom context menu to work, but it seems that once you've hovered long enough over one node to get the standard context menu, you're stuck and any node you click on will display the browser's normal context menu.
    This is a big problem for us because we rely on these context menus and most of our administrative users are on IE 8. Is there a workaround or can the tooltip text somehow be shut off? It doesn't appear in Firefox so Firefox works fine.
    Thanks.
    -Ed

    Hi,
    if this works on IE 7 you can force the app to run in IE7 compatibility mode
    See "Run ADF Faces applications with IE 9 in IE 8 compatibility mode" http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/april2011-otn-harvest-367335.pdf
    Works the same for IE8 to IE7. This then gives you a solution for until the issue is solved
    Btw.: If users click onto the folder icon (not the text, which brings up the tool tip) then the context menu work. I'll file a bug anyway

    Hi,
    Can anyone tell me how to change the icon for a particular node in a JTree?
    I know how to change all the leafs for example by using the DefaultTreeCellRenderer.setLeafIcon()method. But do you know how to set just one node to a particular icon?

  • How-to synchronize edit forms for a single View Object tree node entrie

    Hi all,
    I created a tree from a single View Object,
    follow this [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/32-tree-table-from-single-vo-169174.pdf]
    then i want to create and synchronize edit forms for tree node entries,
    follow this [http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/adf/learnmore/50-synchromize-form-treeselection-169192.pdf]
    but it not working when i click child node!!
    i found the latter tree from many View Object ,but the former tree from single View Object.
    what should i do?
    Thanks in advance

    Hi,
    say the tree is built from ViewObject1. In the AM model, create a second View Object instance for this. Say ViewObject2. Create the form from ViewObject2 and the tree from ViewObject1. When creating the tree, use the"Target Data Source" option at the bottom to reference the iterator of ViewObject2. Then create a PartialTrigger on the paneFormLayout that holds the synch form. In the partial trigger property, reference the tree so that when the tree selection changes, the form is updated. Then create a PartialTrigger property on the tree and point it to the submit button of the form so you can show updated values in the tree.

  • Tree and Tree Node Components - Threadinar7

    Hi All,
    This is the seventh in the "Threadinar" series , please see Threadinar6 at
    http://forum.sun.com/jive/thread.jspa?threadID=100601 for details
    In this Threadinar we will focus on the
    "Tree" and "Tree Node" Components
    Let us begin our discussion with the Tree Component.
    Tree Component
    You can drag the Tree component from the Palette's Basic category to the Visual Designer to create a hierarchical tree structure with nodes that can be expanded and collapsed, like the nodes in the Outline window. When the user clicks a node, the row will be highlighted. A tree is often used as a navigation mechanism.
    A tree contains Tree Node components, which act like hyperlinks. You can use a Tree Node to navigate to another page by setting its url property. You can also use a Tree Node to submit the current page. If the the Tree Node's action property is bound to an action event handler, selecting the node automatically submits the page. If the Tree Node's actionListener property is bound to an action listener, opening or closing the node automatically submits the page. You set Tree Node properties in the Tree Node Component Properties window.
    * If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages.
    * Events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
    Initially when you drop a tree on a page, it has one root node labeled Tree and one subnode labeled Tree Node 1. You can add more nodes by dragging them to the tree and dropping them either on the root node to create top level nodes or on existing nodes to create subnodes of those nodes. You can also right-click the Tree or any Tree Node and choose Add Tree Node to add a subnode to the node.
    Additionally, you can work with the component in the Outline window, where the component and its child components are available as nodes. You can move a node from level to level easily in the Outline window, so you might want to work there if you are rearranging nodes. You can also add and delete tree nodes in the Outline window, just as in the Visual Designer.
    The Tree component has properties that, among other things, enable you change the root node's displayed text, change the appearance of the text, specify if expanding or collapsing a node requires a trip to the server, and specify whether node selection should automatically open or close the tree. To set the Tree's properties, select the Tree component in your page and use the Tree Component Properties window.
    The following Tutorial ("Using Tree Component") is very useful to learn using Tree components
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/learning/tutorials/2/sitemaptree.html
    See Also the Technical Article - "Working with the Tree Component and Tree Node Actions"
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jscreator/reference/techart/2/tree_component.html
    Tree Node Component
    You can drag the Tree Node component from the Palette's Basic category to a Tree component or another tree node in the Visual Designer to create a node in a hierarchical tree structure, similar to the tree you see in the Outline window.
    The tree node is created as a subnode of the node on which you drop it. If you drop the node on the tree component itself, a new node is created as a child of the root node. You can see the hierarchical structure clearly in the Outline window, where you can also easily move nodes around and reparent them.
    You can also add a tree node either to a Tree component or to a Tree Node component by right-clicking the component and choosing Add Tree Node.
    A Tree Node component by default is a container for an image and can be used to navigate to another page, submit the current page, or simply open or close the node if the node has child nodes.
    * If you select the Tree Node component's node Tree Node icon in the Outline window, you can edit its properties in the Tree Node Properties window. You can set things like whether or not the Tree Node is expanded by default, the tooltip for the Tree Node, the label for the tree node, and the Tree Node's identifier in your web application.
    * You can use a Tree Node to navigate to another page by setting its url property. You can also use a Tree Node to submit the current page. If the the Tree Node's action property is bound to an action event handler, selecting the node automatically submits the page. If the Tree Node's actionListener property is bound to an action listener, opening or closing the node automatically submits the page.
    - Note: If you use this component to navigate between pages of a portlet, do not use the url property to link to a page. Instead, use the Navigation editor to set up your links to pages. In addition, events related to tree node selection do not work correctly in portlets because the component uses cookies to pass the selected node id back and forth, and cookies are not correctly handled by the portlet container. You cannot handle tree node selection events in portlet projects.
    * If you select the image in the Tree Node, you can see that its icon property is set to TREE_DOCUMENT. If you right-click the image on the page and choose Set Image, you can either change the icon to another one or choose your own image in the Image Customizer dialog box. For more information on working with an image in a tree node, see Image component.
    - Note: The image used in a tree node works best if it is 16x16 or smaller. Larger images can work, but might appear overlapped in the Visual Designer. You can right-click the component and choose Preview in Browser feature to check the appearance of the images.
    Please share your comments, experiences, additional information, questions, feedback, etc. on these components.

    One challenge I had experience was to make the tree
    always expanded on all pages (I placed my tree menu
    in a page fragment so I can just import it in my
    pages).Did you solve this problem. It would be interesting to know what you did.
    To expand a node you call setExpanded on the node. Here is some code from a tutorial that a coworker of mine is working on.
    In the prerender method:
           Integer expandedPersonId = getRequestBean1().getPersonId();
             // If expandedPersonId is null, then we are not coming back
            // from the Trip page. In that case we do not want any trip
            // nodes to be pre-selected (highlighted) due to browser cookies.
            if (expandedPersonId==null) {
                try {
                    HttpServletRequest req =(HttpServletRequest)
                    getExternalContext().getRequest();
                    Cookie[] cookies = req.getCookies();
                    //Check if cookies are set
                    if (cookies != null) {
                        for (int loop =0; loop < cookies.length; loop++) {
                            if (cookies[loop].getName().equals
                                    ("form1:displayTree-hi")) {
                                cookies[loop].setMaxAge(0);
                                HttpServletResponse response =(HttpServletResponse)
                                getExternalContext().getResponse();
                                response.addCookie(cookies[loop]);
                } catch (Exception e) {
                    error("Failure trying to clear highlighting of selected node:" +
                            e.getMessage());
            }                  ... (in a loop for tree nodes)...
                      personNode.setExpanded(newPersonId.equals
                                    (expandedPersonId));In the action method for the nodes:
           // Get the client id of the currently selected tree node
            String clientId = displayTree.getCookieSelectedTreeNode();
            // Extract component id from the client id
            String nodeId = clientId.substring(clientId.lastIndexOf(":")+1);
            // Find the tree node component with the given id
            TreeNode selectedNode =
                    (TreeNode) this.getForm1().findComponentById(nodeId);
            try {
                // Node's id property is composed of "trip" plus the trip id
                // Extract the trip id and save it for the next page
                Integer tripId = Integer.valueOf(selectedNode.getId().substring(4));
                getRequestBean1().setTripId(tripId);
            } catch (Exception e) {
                error("Can't convert node id to Integer: " +
                        selectedNode.getId().substring(4));
                return null;
    It would also be great if I can set the tree
    readonly where the user cannot toggle the expand
    property of the tree (hope this can be added to the
    tree functionality).

  • Tooltips in Tree

    Hi,
    I was trying to get a rudimentary tree widget up quickly by using an XML derived from a HHTP service as the data provider. Then I pointed the labelField attribute of the mx:tree to an xml element attribute using XPath (say, @name). This worked well as it alid out the XML tree as a Flex tree with the label of each node being the "name" attribute of the different XML elements. Each xml element which has a "name" attribute also has a corresponding "description" attribute. What I wanted to do was to make this "description" attribute appear as the tooltip for each node in mx:tree. But I could not find any property in mx:tree which would allow this.
    Is this possible at all? Any help is greatly appreaciated.
    Thanks,
    Balaji

    Hi Sailaja,
    its not the header i want the tooltip for. I mean the items of the list tree itself.
    my list looks like this:
    - delivery | delivery date | ...
        delivery position | materialnr | ...
    what i want is to have a tooltip when i'm e.g. with the mouse over the filed "materialnr"  the tooltip apperas.
    I this possible?

    }

    JLabels using ImageIcons are designed to display the icon as is, including animation and all.
    A CellRenderer only paints the Icon once, when the cell is painted. Much ike a rubber stamp of the JComponent. Hence, its not designed to do the animation and all.
    If you really want it, you can probably use MediaTracker and a Timer to do your animation scheduling. Might not be very pretty code though

  • How to display the tree nodes distinctivly.

    Hay all,
    Frnds , i am facing a problem. I have created a tree whose each node consisted of a checkbox and a label. For that i have used DefaultMutableTreeNodes for tree nodes and a TreeCellRenderer. Is there any method or way to display some nodes distinctively(may be in different color or something else). Plz tell me soon its very urgent.

  • Handling event for Tree Control Collapse

    Hi,
    Can any one suggest how to handle an event for 'Tree Node Collapse' . I have checked with all the exised tree events.
    thanks,
    Venu

    Hi Venugopal,
        If you are doing tree control programmin then i can suggest you a approach for tree node collapse and expand.
    for doing this follow these steps.
    1. create a toolbar (use class cl_gui_toolbar), add a button and assign a FCODE to it.
    2. here you register the following the event for the toolbar.
    gs_event-eventid = cl_gui_toolbar=>m_id_function_selected.
    3. here you set the handler for the toolbar events
      SET HANDLER  gref_application->handle_function_selected
                FOR  gref_toolbar.
    4. now in your class for gref_application you write a definition and implementation.
    definition
    handle_function_selected FOR EVENT handle_function_selected OF cl_gui_toolbar IMPORTING fcode.
    implementation
    CASE fcode.
       when 'collapse'.
          CALL METHOD xref_tree->collapse_all_nodes.
    this method might change depending upon the class you use for creating the tree.
    i hope this will help you.
    in case of clarification do get back to me.

    Yes Eshwar, its similar to what you have written but my problem was that the style has already been assigned in the code and now I want to assign the style info(tooltip text) to the style(colour). I have an object of class cl_gui_alv_tree as of now and I am not able to find out as to how do I proceed to assign style information
