TouchSmart 310-1124F Still shuts off

Here we go again,
At this point,  I'm at my wits end. We thought I found the problem but we didn't. I have no idea what to do now so I'll just state my problem once again and hope that someone out there has had the same problem or can at least point me in the right direction.
A few weeks ago our pc started shutting off by itself. My wife took it apart and cleaned the fan, although it wasn't at all that dirty. At the same time we noticed that the touchscreen stopped working as well. Being that we don't use the touchscreen that often, we really weren't too concerned about it. I did notice that the pc shut off only when I had a  music DVD in the unit and was recording from the sound card using the " Roxio Creator 2011 Pro" program "capture audio from soundcard" feature.
I then just let a DVD play without recording the music and it still happened. Somtimes it will shut off after 15 minutes and other times it would shut off after 30 minutes.
We bought an external DVD/CD player and the same thing happened, so that told us that the player in the unit itself is good.
My wife who knows a lot more about pc's than I do ( I know next to nothing) ran diagnostic tests and found that there was a bad cluster in the hard drive, so we thought that could be the problem.
Well, we installed a new hard drive and ran the recovery disc's and low and behold, while recording music off of a DVD, after about 10 minutes the pc shut off....again!  And the touchcreen still doesn't work.
We don't know where to go from here. Could the touchscreen not working be related to this problem of the pc shutting down when a DVD is being played? Sounds crazy but I have to ask. My wife also asked me to ask is it hardware that makes it a touchscreen? Thanks in advance for all your help. John

Hi jexee55,  sorry to hear that you are having issues with your computer shutting down on you. I have had a similar issue not so long ago and was able to resolve the issue by changing the Cmos battery. This is a little bit of a chore to do but I do have a document that gives detailed instructions on how to get it changed. Please click on the link that I have provided to get to the document.

  • TouchSmart 610-1115uk Randomly Shuts Off Without Warning

i have had this TouchSmart for about 2 years now and it is in immaculate condition. physically apart from dust, which i clean out regularly, you'd be mistaken for thinking it was new. in terms of operation i have always been careful to look after it too, running regular scans of the HDD and hardware, updating drivers and being careful when it comes to what i download.
i have recently upgraded to Windows 8 Pro x64 (within the last 2 months) but didn't do a clean install, i simply upgraded from Windows 7 Pro x64, and to be honest after a few tweaks the computer was working better than ever, it was faster both running programs and in terms of startup time, and graphics looked better than ever.
then about 2 weeks ago it just shut off without warning, not shut down like if you'd asked it to, but just went blank like loss of power, i powered it up and it didn't do it again for quite a while and so i assumed it was a one off. but it soon started doing it regular. i've gone through every thing i can possibly think of trying to diagnose what the problem is, i've checked all wires and connectors, cleaned out all dust and checked for overheating, updated drivers, removed the extra RAM i'd installed not long after purchase, wiped the system and reinstalled Windows 8 from scratch, deactivated Threading on the CPU, and have reduced power to the CPU down to 50%.
this last action did reduce the frequency of the shut off issue significantly but it just seems completely random, i can be running any number of programs and it can work fine for hours, and then i can be doing nothing on it and it will just die.
i have run no end of diagnostics on it and they all say everything is fine, no viruses, no errors and no build up of heat (i've monitored the temperature rise when running and it never gets over 40 now with the CPU power turned down).
please can someone tell me if i'm missing anything, and if i can solve this without HP as my warranty ran out a few months ago, thank you.
updated: the shut off problem seems to occur more often when the computer isn't really having to process very much like when it is left idle or when i'm just using the internet, whereas if i play a game or use a resource hungry application it rarely happens.

I'm going to reply here just in case someone else happens upon this post and wants a definite answer like I did...
    My Problem
My computer randomly shut down as if the power had gone out. I didn't shut it down on purpose, hit a button, put it to sleep nor was it running updates and needed to restart... it simply, shut off.  It shut off much like the power goes out in a home, however all of my lamps and other electronics in my room were on. It was only my computer that shut down.
I followed a lot of advice in the forums and it did turn back on a few times but only for a few minutes before turning off and never coming back on.
I feared it would be the motherboard but a friend informed me it could be the Power Supply (the brick) and I saw THIS post and thought... it has to be that... or at least I HOPED it was that... or I was switching to Mac.
Never heard a response back to my reply to this post, and I didn't see a follow up to the guy above seeing if it worked for him.
    The Solution
I decided to go ahead and purchase the power supply part for my computer which is the HP TouchSmart 610-1130f All-in-One series. It needed to be a 150W (hard to find but is sold in the HP Parts store).
This is the part info: 609919-001   In stock   Powersupply - Madeline-R 150W 19V EPS2.0 Shasta
Upon receiving the part and plugging it into my computer, it worked. That was 9 hours ago (currently using fixed computer) and it is running just fine. I'm STILL holding my breath and hoping it doesn't go out again. If it does I will come back to the forum and let everyone know.
Hopefully I won't be back again in 2 years to purchase a new part. Lucky it wasn't something worse like the motherboard... having a computer that only lasts 2 years?
Anyways. Thought you should know random person reading this. Best of luck.

  • Installed new battery, but macbook still shuts off

So I just installed a new battery in my macbook pro after the last one  died after about 800 cycles.  Before it died I could still use it with  the AC cord plugged in, but if unplugged the computer would turn off.  After I installed the new battery i'm still having the same problems.
I don't understand what's happening because when I check the battery  status it says it's fully charged with a cycle count of 74 and the  battery condition is normal.
When the AC cord is unplugged the macbook will shut off, sometimes  when i plug it back in it will start right back where I left it prior to  unplugging it, but other times it will just do a full restart. When I  press the battery indicator (unplugged) to check the battery life  nothing happens.
I've already tried resetting the SMC, although I'm not sure if i'm  doing it right, because the light on the AC cord doesn't change when I  hold shift+ctrl+option+power. If anyone could help me out It'd be  greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

I suspect that eBay battery was very inexpensive.  There are many tales of woe on these forums of users who have purchase third party batteries for their MBPs and have found them wanting.  The vendor will tell you that the battery is a 'genuine replacement' battery, but in fact it is not.
The appropriate solution is to have a replacement battery installed by Apple which will have a warranty.
    Ciao.

  • HP Pavillion TouchSmart 14-b109wm Sleekbook Shutting off

My computer has started shutting off on me at about 17% battery. It used to warn me at 11% and then hibernate at about 9%, but something seems to have changed and now it has stopped warning me that my battery is low. I have gone and tried to change the battery settings but it doesn't seem to be helping. Any advice would be appreciated.

That seems like a battery issue. I had the same issue on one of my computers and I resolved it by purchasing a new battery.
    I hope this helps!

  • IPhone 5 iOS 7 still shutting off   Is there a fix yet

Since the iOS 7 update my phone keeps shutting off by its self and it's getting really frustrating.  Usually after 5 min it will turn back on when I press and hold both home key and power key.  But this is getting stupid there have been 2 updates already. When will this get fixed.   It's getting worse  at first it would shut off at 25% battery. Now it's shutting off with 39-40% battery then when it does turn on the battery life goes so quick but when I plug it in to charge it shows more. Like tonight for example. It shut off on me 3 times in 30 min,  then dropped down to 1% battery when I plugged in to charge it was at 50%.  Very frustrating   Apple needs to fix this.   Anyone else no of a solution ?

It sounds to me like you have a firmware issue.  The reason I say this is that the behavior has survived several resets and at least two iOS updates.  After to doing a sync/backup with your computer, try doing a Device Firmware Update.  This should fix the application crashes and the anomaly between battery readings and actual batery strength.
After the DFU, you should be able to restore from backup.  If restoring from backup causes the issues to return, try a second DFU and then configure the iPhone as a new device.  If you want to save yourself a step, just configure as new after the first DFU.

  • Is there a line in jack on HP Touchsmart 310-1124f, windows 7?

I'd like to do some recording using a "line in" source. Most PCs have a blue female 1/8 inch jack. I don't see one. Will the mic input work for all recording sources?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

You can adjust the mic input via the audio card control panel so that it will function as a line in.

  • N73 Shutting off for no apparent reason

    Hi all
I'm new here, I have already checked the site for similar postings and found one in particular that was identical to my subject heading, however, there is no remedy that I can see anywhere on this site, I did try to google it and the only fix I could find was to update the firmware, which I did, this made no difference at all, the phone still shuts off from time to time and for no apparent reason, its not the battery, as it turns on without any issue, the phone was a gift from my company, so no proof of purchase, although have the box, with bar code, IME number and various other numbers, but Nokia say they cannot accept the phone without proof of purchase, so there you go, has anyone found out why this is happening, myself and the other guy who posted cannot be the only people with this particular problem and I'm sure that someone from Nokia will be reading these posts, surely they know about it and have a fix, if so I would very much like to know what it is, thank you.
    Regards
    The Pozz

Without the option of bringing it to you Nokia Care Centre, the only suggestions I can give are as follows:
    1. Make sure your battery contacts are clean and battery is secure.
    2. Reset your phone.
Always remember to backup your phone before performing resets as your data may be lost.
    First try these
First try *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default
If that does not work then try *#7370# - Reformat your phone

  • HT1338 My Macbook Pro is just shutting off by itself

I just upgraded to Mountain Lion but it was happening before that tool.

    Hi Leslie198,
If you've just updated to OS X 10.8.2 does the MacBook Pro still shut off when you have it connected with the magsafe power adapter connected to the mains?
If you can get in to your mac, open About This Mac from the Apple Menu and select More Info, this should open some details up about your MacBook Pro, click on System Report and tell us what model you have it's next to Model Identifier.
Select Power from the options on the left and Copy & Paste the contents of this screen into a reply to this post, we should be able to see the health of your battery from this.

  • Randomly shutting off

    Hello,
My Toshiba laptop (windows 7) turns off randomly after about 15mins of running, It isn't due to dust nor over heating for I used a dust cleaner and I currently have a cooling mat for my laptop. I am unsure about the problem. But before this ever happened my computers hardware crashed, which I then had to take into a computer shop to be fixed. But ever since it was at the shop my computer has been turning off randomly.
    Any Ideas?
    Thanks

What was fixed when it was at the shop?  If the computer is just sitting at idle, does it still shut off, or do you have to be running something on it?
I would suggest just to troubleshoot, install and run piriform speccy(free program).  This will show the temps of your CPU, motherboard, and HDD.  Keep an eye on this when it is running and see if any temps go into the red.  Sometimes you can have an overheating issue even with a cooling pad.  If the repair shop happened to apply cheap thermal paste to the CPU, it can dry up an fail very quickly.

  • Macbook pro shuts off as soon as charger is disconnected. Will only charge with older square tip charger and not the newer "L" magsafe charger it originally came with.

I have a 2011 macbook pro. I recently spilled some water on top of the macbook while it was off and charging (closed). Some water got to the charging port so I immediately disconnected the charger. Right away I brought it to ibreakufix and they looked through and told me there were no issues. I plugged it back into the charger to see if it would turn on and the "L" shaped magsafe charger it came with would not light up or charge the MB and it would not turn on. At the store, the person showed that it turned on using the older square tip charger. I went to apple thinking the charger was bad but that was not the case, tried a new charger (L) and still did not work. I came home and plugged in my older macbook charger (square tip) and it worked fine as it did at the shop but as soon as I unplug the charger, the MB shuts off. I took off the bottom and switched the battery with my other macbook thinking the battery might have shorted out but it still shut off. Battery display indicates that it is charging and in fact charged up to 100% but as soon as charger is disconnected it shuts off. Oddly when I plug in the newer "L" charger and disconnect the battery from the macbook, the charger lights up and powers on the MB. Any thoughts?

  • IPod Nano shuts off even after hold switch engaged...HELP!

  • Nano shuts off my computer!

everytime i connect my nano to my computer it shuts off automatically, and then my computer stays in the black screen[that appears right as it turns on]...i have to unplug my nano and restart my computer for it to login
it's weird because my nano WONT turn off my computer if itunes is open and a song is playing...and this isn't always true..sometimes it still shuts off..it's really annoying because i have to worry about the other programs i'm in..
can anyone help me with this problem?

what do you mean this person isn't using apple discussions? lol

  • Iphone 6 shutting off all the time

I've had an original iphone and an iphone 4 that the genius bar helpers were always very easy to work with and always gave me the right of hand when i needed a replacement.
This iphone 6 has been a nightmare, I've had it for less then one month and even after it being restored it kept SHUTTING OFF all the time!!!! I explained this to the rep.
However as a misfortune, the day I had scheduled my appointment the phone fell from my computer desk and shattered
Even with the 22 reported crashes I was still forced to pay $83 dollars to get a replacement refurbished phone!!!!
I have apple care, att insurance, and none of that crap covered the phone that was obviously defective due to its cosmetics.
this was absurd and I am very upset with apple and especially with the way the genius bar is now, inconsiderate with the public, not only do i get a piece of crap refurbish phone, this one is STILL SHUTTING OFF ALL THE TIME.
Anyone else having their iphone 6 shutting off constantly???

Update it to 8.1 and see if that helps. Otherwise Restore it as a new iPhone, not from your backup, and see if that helps. If it does you have an app that is misbehaving. You could also have a nanoSIM that needs to be replaced.

  • My computer shuts off suddenly w/o warning

Hi - I recently upgraded my older white Mac to Lion system and a week or so ago put in a new battery. The instructions for the battery were to put the energy saver/sleep on "never" until the battery completely ran down the first time. After the computer shut off suddenly without the usual "your battery is low" warning, I remembered to put it back on energy saver mode but it's still shutting off w/o warning if I don't keep an eye on it and plug it in before it dies. Any ideas what might be causing this?

    Hi Sharusz,
If you are having unusual power/battery issues that are leading to sudden unannounced shutdowns, you may want to try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC). You may find the following article helpful:

You may also want to try re-calibrating the battery again, just in case the charge status is being misreported to the computer:
