Track changes indesign

Hi all
How to find the track changes in indesign using script

@vandy88 – now that's interesting. I suspect something special is going on here with the property "storyOffset".
If you alert for:
alert(myChange.storyOffset.constructor.name);
You'll get back "Array". Its length is 1. So your code storyOffset[0] is working.
If you alert for:
alert(myChange.storyOffset);
You'll get back "[object InsertionPoint]"
But: If you'll do that for a Table object instead of a tracked Change, you'll get back "InsertionPoint" in both instances!
alert(myTable.storyOffset); // => [object InsertionPoint]
alert(myTable.storyOffset.constructor.name); // => InsertionPoint
So, is this a bug in the property "storyOffset" of the object Change?
Or an omission in the documentation?

  • How do i clear all previous track changes in Incopy/Indesign

    Hi,
    I have an old document which i now need to work on again. We worked on the same document last year and we are going to use the old text and just rewrite it.
    We are many people involved and the things is that all our previous changes from last year are still visible. I would like to clear all the changes from last year to get the text "clean".
    We want to have new track changes to see all the new changes that are being made.
    How do I do that?
    I am working in Indesign and the team I am working with are using Incopy. I do the design and they handle the text.

    Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones.

  • Why can't I see Tracked Changes in InDesign?

    My colleagues using InCopy are using Track Changes and Notes. I can see their Notes in InDesign, but not the Tracked Changes. Am i forced ito InCopy to view these changes?

    Hi,
    Just like Bob says, InCopy adds to the editorial "work flow" in a one-way-lane way in your case. The CtrlChanges plug-in gives you the ability to see changes in layoutview for both InDesign and InCopy. Depending on what version of CtrlChanges one chooses, the plug-in gives you the ability to accept or reject changes in InDesign or InCopy. The track changes function is attached to the document and not in anyway InCopy specific. This means that if you start the track changes process in the document, that document can be edited by someone that does not have CtrlChanges and their changes will be seen when in the document.
    So you do not need InCopy to reach your goal. Just a little help from a plug-in :-)

  • InCopy/InDesign Track Changes

    I just watched the Lynda.com video on tracking changes in InCopy. My question is do the changes need to be accepted to stick?  I just want to make sure all the changes stay in. We do not have a one person editor who would accept and reject changes. We just want to see what they were, and who did them.
    Thank you in advance,
    Holly

    Yes, they "stick" even if you don't accept them. Accepting them  takes them out of  tracking (you can't see who did what when), so if you want to be able to see all the changes ever made, don't accept any changes (but don't reject any either, which does just what it says--you will lose those edits).

  • How to track changes between documents

    We are trying to find ways to track/compare changes between two or more versions of an InDesign document. We need to be able to store these version changes in a master version tracking document. We know InDesign can track text changes in a story but we need to know more than that, like graphic or style changes. Is there a plugin out there that can compare two versions of an InDesign document and list/print out the differences?  Acrobat has this feature but we haven't found this for InDesign. Any suggestions?

    Hello,
    I hesitated to post the plugins because my company is the publisher of one of them.
    You will find them all at:
    http://www.pluginsworld.com/
    Search for BlackLining from EMS, CtrlChanges from Ctrl Publishing and EditMarks BlackLining from Kerntiff Publishing Systems.
    We are responsible for EditMarks.
    As I said we do not track changes to objects.
    All the best.

  • Track changes balloons post maverick

    Since upgrading to maverick, I can no longer see track changes in balloons in the side panel but have to hover over the highlight to read them. Is there anyway I can go back to the way the balloons were displayed before (ie in the side panel all the time)?

  • Track Changes colors not working when story contains table

    Can anyone duplicate this problem/bug, or let me know if it is just my machine?
    Steps to reproduce
    Make sure your Edit > Preferences > Story Editor has non-black text colors defined for Added Text, Deleted Text, and Moved Text.
    Create document, and draw a text box
    Inside the text box, Right-click > Fill with Placeholder Text
    With the cursor in the text box, turn on Track Changes and Show Changes from the Track Changes pallette:
    Open the Story Editor with Ctrl/Cmd-Y
    Cut/paste, delete, and insert some text.
    Confirm colors appear in Story Editor as defined in step 1:
    Now insert a table anywhere in the story. For me, all non-black text coloring (bg stays fine) disappears:
    Is this an InDesign bug, or something I'm experiencing on my own machine? I've been able to duplicate the issue in InDesign CS6, InDesign CC and InCopy CC on my Win7 Pro 64-bit machine.

    I'd recommend filing a bug report here to make sure it gets reported:

  • InCopy CC crashes when using track changes

    Hi
    We have had a lot of problems with InCopy chrasing.
    We are using the package system.
    It seems to happen when clients are using Track changes, they open the file and if i opens in Story mode it just spins and won't works. If ou open it in Layout mode it seems fine but as soon as you go to Story mode it spins again.
    If the track changes are accepted the package will work fine again.
    Does Adobe have any updates for this it's becoming very frustating and clients don't want to use InCopy.
    Thanks
    Louise

    I don't think there is anything specific in the upgrade that addresses tracked changes, sorry.
    If you need to keep a version of the INDD file with all the tracked changes (before you accept them, to reduce problems), then I'd suggest you make a whole new version of the project. Archive the old one with all the tracked changes intact, and wipe out the tracking markup by accepting all changes in the new doc.
    1. The ID user makes sure all stories are checked in and up to date (easiest via the Assignments panel)
    2. They unlink all the InCopy stories ... select them in the Assignments panel and click the Unlink icon at the bottom (trash can)
    3. Do a Save As to the InDesign file into a new folder with a new name ("v2" appended, for example, or "_changes-accepted").
    4. In the new file, re-export all the stories to InCopy format, saving them to a new subfolder.
    5. Check out all the stories at once via the Assignments panel
    6. Go to the Type menu and choose Track Changes > Accept All Changes > In This Document
    7. Archive the old INDD file with its linked InCopy files (that have the changes)
    8. Tell users to continue working on the new INDD file.
    Alternatively, InCopy users can export each story showing the tracked change markup to PDF, archiving that for auditors, before accepting all changes.

  • Share track changes?

    is there any way that i can use the track changes feature in CS6 to display changes to my client using the cloud? for instance, is there any way to post the story editor version of a document to the cloud? or can you capture story editor updates in a PDF? client doesn't have indesign capabilities, and it would be great to find a way to share editorial changes made in the layout.
    any suggestions greatly appreciated.

  • Linking text to track changes

    Hello all, my end goal is to be able to track changes to variable text that gets added to a text frame that has particular tags in it. For example the text frame may have this:
    Save <text1>
    Reg price <text2>
    I then susbtitute in <text1> and <text2> with variable text but would like to maintain a link to those individually to see if anything has changed. I do not care if the words "Save" or "Reg price" change and I can't use those words to know where my variables are because they may not always be there. Another example could just have variable text, in which I would want to keep track of the changes individually like this:
    <text1>
    <text2>
    <text3>
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    The text itself is tagged. I am retrieving the text from a database and replacing the corresponding <text1> with the text from the database. I then want to be able to update the database with just changes that occurr to the database text that got added. It is very simple when the textframe just holds one <text1> with no static text, because in that instance I just take whatever is in the textframe and update the database when the editing in indesign is complete. However, I would like to add the capability of having more than one <text*> label and also be able to have static text.
    For example:
    Database looks like this:
    text1 = "1.99"
    text2 = "2.99"
    textFrame looks like this:
    Save <text1>
    Reg price <text2>
    After replacing the text:
    Save 1.99
    Reg price 2.99
    Then lets say I edit the second price and text:
    Save 1.99
    Regular price 4.00
    I then want to update the database to say
    text1 = "1.99"
    text2 = "4.00"
    I hope thats more clear!

  • Accepting tracked Changes very SLOW

    In InCopy CS4 and now in CS5 we are having a serious production-limiting problem with it being slow to accept tracked changes. It doesn't matter whether you are accepting one change or all the ones in a document--it takes the same amount of time for that doc. A 50 page document takes 17 sec while a 18 page one takes 6 sec. This is crippling to our productivity. I don't see anybody else complaining about this so I guess I'm missing a check box that everybody else already knows about that will fix it all. Will somebody let me know what it is? Thanks!

    Well, that felt pretty patronizing.
    Two questions:
    1)       1) Are you saying that you are certain that InCopy is actually reflowing all text, etc. every time a tracked change is accepted?
    2)       2) If you are certain of that, are you certain that there is no way to turn it off?
    We are a professional publishing business and our editors are not wrong when they say it is taking too long. We may have 3 proofers go through a 50 page document and leave about 300 changes of various types for the editor to go through. 6 sec is for the smallest document. Our longest is a 78 pg doc and it takes 54 sec to do each update in InDesign on the fastest computer! I haven’t checked but probably much longer in InCopy.
    There is a serious problem that InDesign CS5 and InCopy CS5 (and previous editions) have in dealing with long stories. It is obvious to me that this is not an issue in small stories that would appear on page layouts and in magazines.
    This does not even get into the horrible problems we’ve had with corruption of long stories that are exported into InCopy icml files and then simply freeze and become unusable in InCopy or InDesign. When they lose a days work, editors and proofers don’t scream. They cry. We are now trying to figure out how to finish this cycle and seem to be stuck with putting InDesign on all the proofers and editors computers. Which is freaking out the designers.
    Adobe’s tech support sounds clueless to this problem. We’d welcome Adobe to our company to work this out (I’m not kidding). They’d need to send an engineer and a couple of psychotherapists (kidding…about the engineer…oh, I mean about the psychotherapists).
    We really like virtually everything else about these programs. I think Adobe is a simply brilliant company who has made giant strides lately. We use Production Premium programs to make our DVD sets and we are doing a really big web app in flex. Somehow they overlooked the problems with long stories in InDesign and InCopy. This wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t advertise that it is perfect for long docs.
    To make InDesign and InCopy work for long docs:
    1)         We need the option to turn off reflowing while doing the review process. Or it can simply update the visible text immediately and do the rest in the background as CPU resources allow.
    2)              Fix the corruption problem in big icml files. This problem has made InCopy unusable in our company.
    Thanks for listening Adobe! (Adobe….aaaddooobeeee….anyone there?....heeeelllloooooo)

  • Report to track changes to infotypes prior to running the  payroll interfac

    wants a report to track changes to infotypes prior to running the  payroll interface.  The attached report looks like it should work but it returns nothing.  Is there config that turns on "Track Changes": for select infotypes?  If so, can they be activated for key infotypes so this report will run?
    Name, Address, position, etc.
    Not attendance and absence ITs.

    Hi,
    IMG – Personnel Management – Personnel Admin – Tools – Revision – Set up change document:
    This node has three items:
    Infotypes to be logged
    Field Group Definitions
    Field Group Characteristics
    Using these three options you define which infotypes you wish to log, then which fields, then you define which groups of fields are to be saved. Click each link, or see the sections below:
    Infotypes to be logged
    Here you define which PA infotype numbers you require logging. Select New Entries and enter a transaction class (A for Pers Admin, B for recruitment), then enter the infotype number and save.
    Field Group Definition
    When changes are made to a logged infotype, the field contents before and after are recorded. This is the very reason for logging the infotype, but there is an overhead in performance and disk space used so it needs to be given consideration. Typically you will want to record fields that are pay relevant.
    Using the field group definition, you specify which fields you wish to record changes in. When any of the fields in the group are changed, all the fields in the group are saved. You can use an asterisk to log all the fields of the infotype but this is not recommended for space and performance, also there are many fields on an infotype that you will not be using, that will be saved also. Ideally you will pick individual fields of the infotype and enter them like so:
    The field group number is a freely defined number you allocate to the group, it will be used in the next step. For normal use, simply pick any number not already used in that infotype. All fields with the same field group number are recorded in the log, even if they have not changed.
    Click New Entries and enter the infotype number, field group number and field names that you wish to record.
    Field Group Characteristics
    When you have set up the field group numbers, use the field group characteristics to activate the logging of those fields. You can also specify a supplementary field group; this means that the contents of another field group can also be saved at the same time, even though the contents have not changed. In practise it is not used much. Simply select new entries, enter the transaction class, infotype, and in the DocFieldGr enter the number you assigned to the field names that you want to store, then enter L for Long Term Documents (short are not supported)
    The Audit Report
    To access the report showing the logged infotype changes, use the HR report tree available from various menu paths, including:
    Main Menu – Human Resources – Pers Management – Administration – Info System – Reports - Documents – Infotype change – logged changes in infotype data. (RPUAUD00).
    When you run the report, select the infotypes you require, and select and execute.
    Cheers

  • Reports to track changes on Deliveries and Sales order

    Hi All
    Do you perhaps know of a specific report that could possibly track changes made to a Sales order and delivery at line item level.
    The problem is change log only logs the deletion of the line item but not the actual material number.
    Do we have to enhance existing reports to achieve visibility for deletion of line items.
    Regards
    KC

    Hi Lakshi
    Thank you very much for that feedback the thing is that you can search that on an order per order basis and even when you get to the change log you will not be able to see what material number was deleted.
    That is the problem.
    Has anyone experienced this wher the requirement was to have a report to run so see what changes have been made to orders or deliveries that they could view wholistically.
    Kind Regards

  • Is there a way to retain the track changes from a Microsoft Word document when working on a IPAD word processing App?

    I am going on a work trip and want to be able to collaborate with my colleagues, almost all of whom will be using Microsoft Word on Microsoft Windows laptops and I want to draft and collaborate on documents.  The approach we always take to such collaboration is to use the track changes feature in Microsoft Word that shows changes and who made the changes.As best I could tell apples Pages software ignores the notations added by the track changes features and accepts all changes to the document making it difficult to see what changes were made and by whom.
    I would appreciate any suggestions to address this challenge.

    I noted from some similar topics that Pages seems to support track changes but that while it reflects deletions made in Microsoft Word, it does not appear to show them -- is there a way to fix this problem?

  • Track changes showing multiple entries for a single change?

    Hi there .. I'm using Pages '09 v4.1 to edit MS Word '97 documents. I've been using the 'track changes' feature to work on chapters in a book and have done so with no problems so far (about 6 chapters so far in separate files). I went to start the next chapter and noticed that when I make a single change such as highlighting a word and making it italic, the tracking bubbles will show up as individual entries for every letter instead of for a single word. The really annoying thing is that it's not consistent .. some whole-word changes show up as a single entry, while some show as a few entries but don't necessarily correspond to how many letters are in the word being changed. When I try deleting specific tracking bubbles to see which part of the word they correspond to, it varies. For example, if I put the word "similar" in italics on page one, paragraph one, it shows up as 2 entries. When I delete the last entry, "imilar" will go back to standard font, while "s" stays italic until I delete the other entry. It's as though the words in the document are being recognized based on something other than the obvious, and certain letters are being grouped together in the program's brain, while others are separate.
    It's not isolated to italics, btw. If I reformat the entire document to be left-aligned instead of center-aligned, it will show lots of separate tracking bubbles in various places through the document, rather than showing one bubble for my single change.
    I've tried duplicating and saving a new version of the document, as well as creating a new doc and pasting everything into that and saving as a new doc, though I wasn't sure if this would carry over the problem .. It did.
    It's not the end of the world as far as finishing this job, but it's pretty annoying and will be worse for the person who ultimately verifies the changes I've made. Any help is greatly appreciated.
