Tracking slide view completions in LMS - varies with Browser

Hi
I have a captivate 4 module which is published to SCORM 1.2. The module has no quiz as the customer just wishes to know when all slides have been viewed. So have published using the Report Status - Complete, Report to LMS - percent, Report Data - slide views only, slideview completion 100%.
When runing from an LMS the reporting shows correctly i.e 1 instance of complete unless you look at the detailed tracking in which case you see all slides viewed. But this is browser dependant, works fine in IE7 and 8, but in IE6 and Chrome you just get the full list of every slide viewed. Any ideas what might be causing this? Obvoiusly I'd like the customer to just have the summary all complete, but typically they have IE6 or Chrome.
Thanks

You might want to see this link.
I have personally use it on our projects created with Cp3 and Cp4 but haven't tried it with Cp5.5. And no score is being sent in our LMS.
Let me know how will it behave with Cp5.5.
Hope this helps.

  • SCORM 1.2 and Saba - Reporting a 0 Score for Track Slide views

    Good morning,
We have just transitioned over to our new LMS, Saba.  To say the transition has been rocky would be an understatement.   So, here is what I am dealing with:
I have a very basic reader course where I want to grant someone credit once they have viewed all slides.  I am using SCORM 1.2 and setting either "User Access Only" or "Slide Views Only."  If I use slide views, I set it to 1, it sends a 0 score to the LMS, even if the user views all slides.  I have been able to create a fix by assigning a point value to a click box or button at the screen where I want the user to get credit.  However, this does not seem to be what was intended.
Below are screen shots of my publishing commands, Saba screens, and communication report between Saba and CP.

I would suggest you try using Percent instead of Score, and set the Slide View completion percentage to 100 instead of 1.
Change Reporting Level to Score instead of Interactions and Score.
You haven't shown the screen for Quiz > Pass or Fail settings, but you need to set the passing percentage there to 100% as well if you intend that the learner must view every single slide.
Bear in mind that when using slide views, if you have any navigation buttons on the slides that are set to jump to the next slide when clicked, then the learner does not get a completion mark for those slides.  In Captivate you have to watch a slide all the way to the last frame in order to get it marked as completed.  If for some reason you need to get slides marked as completed despite not being viewed (e.g. when using branching) then you can use our TickTOC widget to gain credit for those slides that are missed or not watched to the end.
    http://www.infosemantics.com.au/ticktoc
If you suspect that not all slides will be viewed, you can adjust the Pass/Fail percentage to something less than 100% to allow for the missed ones.
Try these changes and see if it works.
Once you DO find the settings that allow Captivate to work with SABA I would be very interested to know what they were.  I've got a page on my website where I want to show the Captivate config settings for SABA: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/lms_guide/saba  I don't have access to this LMS myself, but perhaps you or other SABA users on this forum can contribute information to make it easier for others to work with it.

  • Slide View Completion Always Showing Successful in Saba

    Aloha All,
I have an issue I have been testing all day and cannot figure out why it is happening.
I have created a test course in Captivate 5.5, published in Scorm 1.2, no quiz, slide completion at 50%, uploaded to our Saba LMS. When the learner DOES complete 50% or more of the slides, Saba displays Successful. When the learner DOES NOT complete 50% of the slides, Saba displays Successful. It should display Unsuccessful.
I also an identical course in Captivate 5.0 and followed the SAME EXACT steps as a control file. The course created in 5.0 work as predicted - Learner did not visit 50% of slides, Saba displayed Unsuccessful. Learner DID visit more than 50% of slides, Saba displayed Successful.
Based on the control file outcome, I can only assume that it is a Captivate 5.5 problem.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks so much,
    Susan

    Hi Susan,
I can think of two possibilities -- one a Saba setting and one a change to Captivate 5.5.  Can you check the content lesson status?
If the lesson status is "Failed," then the issue is that you need to check the "is scoring" option in Saba. If this option is not selected, then Saba will roll-up any lesson status that is not "incomplete" to "successful."
If the lesson status is "Passed," then the issue is most likely you are sending a mastery score (probably of 0) to Saba.  If the lesson sends both a score and mastery score, then Saba will compare the two and assign a lesson status of Passed or Failed.  If your Mastery score is 0 and the score sent by the lesson is 0, then Saba will Pass the lesson and the offering will be marked successful.
In earlier versions of Captivate, you had the option of not setting a mastery score for SCORM 1.2 content.  Unfortunately, in Captivate 5.5 a mastery score is automatically set -- either at 0 (if incomplete/complete) or equal to the quiz passing score, which would explain why you are seeing this issue now.  If this is the case, you have two options:
Blank the mastery score in the IMSManifest - You can do this by either:
manually unzipping the SCORM package and deleting the Mastery Score (<adlcp:masteryscore>100</adlcp:masteryscore>) from the imsmanifest.xml file, or
editing the manifest.xml file (Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Captivate 5.5 > Templates > Publish > Manifest.xml) to remove the Mastery Score keyword(<adlcp:masteryscore>@RD_MQZ_MANIFEST_SCO_MASTERY</adlcp:masteryscore>).
Blank the score value sent by the lesson.  The easiest way to do this is to create a new custom SCORM 1.2 template ("No Score"):
First, navigate to Program Files > Adobe > Adobe Captivate 5.5 > Templates > Publish > SCORM > 1_2 and copy and rename the default.htm file.
Then open the file in an HTML or text editor and edit the code shown below (lines 171+) to include the line in red.
                             } else if ( strFSCmd == "LMSSetValue" || strFSCmd=="SetValue") {
                                  if(strFSArg1=="cmi.core.score.raw") { strFSArg2 = ("");}
                                   strErr = eval('g_objAPI.' + strFSCmd + '(\"' + strFSArg1 + '\",\"' + strFSArg2 + '\");');
Once you have saved this template, it will be available as a SCORM 1.2 LMS template in Quiz preferences.
Hopefully one of these solutions works for you.  V

  • Tables display varies with browser

    I'm building a website with fireworks & dreamweaver 8.

    http://ifda-ne.org/test/sponsors-2.html
(Only look at "About" and "Sponsors" pages are working right
    now)

The reason you've got a problem is that you have allowed a
    graphics program
to write your html. You are stuck with a rigid layout that
    will break when
you start entering content... The reason you tables are
    breaking is that
everying is in one table... so that when you add content to
    the middle area,
the outer cells stretch to match. This will explain what's
    happening:

  • LMS not reporting complete for slide views

    Hi,
I am trying to get my captivate projects to report competion status as complete to the LMS based on slide views. For testing I have created a very simple two slide Captivate. Both slides have 3 second durations, one caption each and nothing else, so the whole project runs for 6 seconds without any pauses, quizes or interactions of any kind. I have used SCORM cloud to view the SCORM calls being made by the package, and it is not reporting completion to the LMS.
I am using the following settings in reporting:
Any help will be really appreciated. Im about to watch http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=set_registered&id=1775550&loc=en_us to see if that can help. My backup plan is to put an interaction on the last slide but that's going to mess with my quiz results for the projects that do include quizzes (This is also why im reporting Quiz Results and Slide Views).
Note: with these settings, passing a quiz causes the captivate to report completion.
    Thanks for any help
    Andrew Downes

I'm not sure of this and defer to any contrary/additional replies that may follow...but...
Past versions of CP have required some sort of scored interaction in order for the lesson to properly report via SCORM to the LMS.
If you have a CP lesson without any scored interactions (no 'reporting'), that may be why completion is being recorded to the LMS.
SO try setting up one scored interaction as you suggest.
For CP lessons that do have quizzes, you won't need that separate scored interaction.
You'll also likely want to change you settings to just 'Slide Views Only' if you just want completion reported based on them viewing the whole project, and I suspect Slide View Completion should be 100, not 10...
Let us know how that goes...

  • How to track the number slides view on LMS

    Hi,
I would like to know how to get a percentage of slides view on a LMS platform.
For example, I don't know how to get a percentage of 5 if I see 5 slides of 100 slides.
I don't know if it's possible with Captivate and if there is an option for that.
On our LMS, we get 0, 50 or 100% but we would like to get a more precise result.
I tried on SCORM CLOUD too and only get 0,00%.
Do you guys have the solution?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Vanessa
PS: I'm not native english so sorry if I made some spelling mistakes (I'm French). I wanted to post here because you find more answers on english forums than french forums.

There is not a SCORM value for slides viewed. What SCORM field/value are you seeing this percentage in?
Also, what version of SCORM are you publishing?
You would need to alter the scormdriver.js file in order to post the results that you want. I am in the process of writing a blog to change CP's bookmarking behavior. With this code it would be fairly simple to add some code to display the info in the comments (SCORM 1.2).

  • Difficulty marking progress as 'completed' in LMS

I am having some challenges with my Captivate 4 created tutorials being marked as 'completed' in our LMS.  Generally, they will be marked as 'completed' the second time that they are opened.
Our last slide is set to not fade out (Edit - Preferences - Start / End) so it remains on the screen.  This slide has instructions to the learner to close the window or select a click box that jumps to Slide 1, if they wish to view it again.  When the lesson is played and stops on this slide, you can tell by looking at the playbar that there is a tiny section left to view.  If you click on the remaining section and drag it to the end, the tooltip will appear indicating that the project has "53/52" slides.  This project only has 52 slides, so how can the playbar indicate that there are 53?  Where is the phantom last slide coming from?  I have copied the slides into a new project and that did not solve the issue.
I believe that this is what is causing our tutorials to not be marked properly in the LMS.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

What LMS are you using? I use one called GeoLearning and I had to download a custom template to make it work completely. Here are the instructions that I used to get it to work with mine; so you're welcome to give it a shot...
In preferences, in the Quiz tab:
Make sure that Enable reporting for this project is checked.
    Learning Management System
Select Standard and rom the drop down select SCORM (if you had a customized template for your LMS select that from the template drop down)
Click on Manifest and enter your course name in the title sections. If you have a quiz, click on the Mastery score checkbox and enter your quiz passing percentage. Click OK
    Report Status
Any of the tree options available here will work equally well. If you are having problems though, select Complete/Incomplete.
    Report to LMS as
Both Percent and Score will work. The LMS will record the Percent score regardless of which option is chosen. If you are experiencing problems, select Percent.
    Choose Report Data
I used Slide view only and made my Slide view completion 100%
    Reporting Level
I used Interactions and Score (although I'm not sure how important this is)
Click on the LMS Customization Settings button and ensure that Never Send Resumed Data is UN-checked. That allows users to close the project and reopen it to the same spot without messing with your Complete/Incomplete status
I hope this works for you!

  • How do I add a higher bit rate Video track to a completed project

I have a pretty complex, time consuming project that includes a 2hr HDV track. After completing the DVD project with chapters added to my 2hr track in DVD studio pro 3, It apeared I could fit a higher bitrate encoded track on a double layerd disc. I've encoded the project again and now want to replace my lower quality track with the higher one.
will I loose my chapter points and what happends to my sub-chapter menus that are perfect as is?
    Dual Core 2.5 G5   Mac OS X (10.4.7)

First (to play safe) make a back-up copy of the DVD SP project file - ie just the frankproject.dspproj
Will I lose my chapter points and what happens to my sub-chapter menus that are perfect as is?
    No you won't ...
Open your project. Import the new 2hr vision track (2hrvision_new.m2v) into DVD SP. Highlight the old vision on the timeline. Delete it. (All the chapter markers will stay put in empty space at this stage.) Drop 2hrvision_new.m2v onto V1 of the timeline. That should be it. If you don't have compression markers in your new mpeg you may have to tweak the exact positioning of the chapter markers; but if you do have compression markers the GOP boundaries will be the same and the chapter positions shouldn't move.
If you have any problems you've still got the back-up project you made earlier, and you can try over again.

  • Slide views only to be reported, but grade is reporting to lms as 0 instead of n/a

My client has a number of quiz questions throughout their course. They asked that the quiz be set up to allow infinite attempts until the learner gets the answer right, and that there are no points or grade associated with the quiz. I've set up each question as a quiz question, but set the grade to be 0. I did it as a quiz question as there are matching type questions, multiple choice, etc. and I found it valuable to have the structure in place to add in the content. The reporting preferences are set up as to report back slide views only, but when this file communicates with the LMS, it is reporting back a pass/complete but giving a grade of 0. I'd like it to show up as n/a under the grade rather than 0.
Also, this course isn't booking marking and learners aren't happy because when they go back in their answers aren't saving. As well, the client wanted backward movement to be allowed but when the learner clicks the back button to go back through the slides, it automatically resets the question slides and they have to re-answer them to continue. Is there a way to change a setting so that the answers will stay in place?
And my last question (promise, sorry for so many) under the quiz settings and then required there are 4 options. I'm just wondering if anyone can explain these 4 options and what each do, so that I can make sure I'm selecting the best one. Up until now it's been a trial/error type of thing, but it would be great if anyone can share some additional info.

Thanks so much! I'm the only one working in Captivate, and so I can't even tell you how helpful it is to have replies and people that understand what I'm asking.
I looked into the manifest file, but I couldn't seem to find the masteryscore text. Here's a copy and paste of my manifest file. Am I missing something?

  • Slide Views and Completion

I cap 2, in quiz manager reporting, I select Report
Complete/Incomplete and then I select Report slide views only (set
at 100%). Is this theoretically causing the SCO to be reported as
complete if all slides are viewed?
Help doesn't say about the slides option.

I am publishing to SCORM 4.
The tool I am using is Redbird Software's
    Trident.
    http://www.scormsoft.com/
I feel that still has a bit more development to be done to be
as newbie-friendly as it could be (mainly with regard to help
files) but I am starting to get the hang of it. You still have to
know a good bit about how SCORM works. Some nice features, though.
Our LMS vendor is still struggling to get their SCORM player
sorted, so I have yet to do a formal test there. However, the
output runs with the ADL test environment.

I had this same problem and started a thread, but for the most part nobody responded and those who did somehow didn't understand what the problem was.

I'm sure the problem is sweat getting into the apple supplied headphone "remote." Basically even the smallest drop can slide down the wire and get into the unit.
Unfortunately I haven't found a solution other than to get a Belkin remote adapter and some sport headphones. This doesn't give you voice over, but you can still control the volume, skip, etc.
I've been doing this for a couple weeks now and it hasn't had a freak out since.

Is there a way to track "pages viewed" progress with PDF's?
Example: Student downloads a PDF from school portal -- Teacher can track who downloaded PDF, when and how many pages were view (where student stopped)? Similar to Flexpaper?

The only other way I can come up with at the moment is by submitting the data via a URL to your server... The user will still have to allow the URL to be opened, though.

  • Captivate 5.5 is setting a Mastery Score in the Manifest when using Slide Views

We have encountered a problem with Captivate 5.5 where it is setting the Mastery Score in the manifest to match the Quiz score setting even though we are only using slide views to track completion.  This is a problem because if we set the score to zero, our Saba LMS will immediately grant the user credit for the course on the first slide.  If we set the score higher than zero, the user will never get credit for the course as Captivate doesn't send a score to the LMS when using slide views to track completion.  Our LMS seems to ignore the status passed by the course once the Mastery Score is set.  We have compared the manifest behavior in 5.0 and it does NOT set the Mastery Score.  We can edit the manifest prior to loading in the LMS but this is a hassle and we'd like to figure out a way to permanently change the behavior to no longer set Mastery Score when using Slide Views to track completion.

    Hi,
I believe the easiest way to do this is to edit the manifest.xml file in the Captivate Templates folder.  I posted instructions on doing that here: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/956390?tstart=0
Hope this solves your issue.  V

  • Setting SCORM 1.2 to force a mastery score in the manifest even when only slide views are used to tr

I have some courses that use only slide views to track completion, because the quizzes are set as separate elements in the LMS we are using (from Oracle PeopleSoft).  The LMS people are telling me they require a masteryscore of 0 to be included in the SCORM manifest file when using slide views.  However, when the manifest files are created, there is no mastery score included in the manifest.
Is there a way to force Captvate 6 to publish a mastery score in the SCORM manifest even when the completion criteria are 80% slide views?

I am not sure, but you can always unzip the SCORm package and add the masteryscore by hand
In your manifest there should be an organizations section like this. Add <adlcp:masteryscore> under the <item> tag
    <organization identifier="org-ident">
                                  <title>Course Title</title>
    <item identifier="some_id_1" identifierref="some_id_1-1" isvisible="true">
                                            <title>Course Title</title>
    <adlcp:masteryscore>0</adlcp:masteryscore>
    </item>
    </organization>
    </organizations>
The above example has a single SCO with an ID of "some_id_1-1" an activity id of "some_id_1" and a masteryscore of 0. The masteryscore can be between 0 an 100

  • Reporting slide views only

Using Captivate 5 and my courses will be published to an SAP LMS and I'd like to give a passing mark when the student has viewed the entire course instead of requiring them to get the quiz questions correct.
Initially, I was making the last forward navigation part of the score, but I am wondering if Slide Views Only will work. If I have 20 slides in my lesson and set that to 20, can that be used to impart a complete or pass mark?

    Hello Darren,
I'm using another LMS, so not sure that this works for all! And moreover, I'm not sure that a slide is considered as viewed if its total timeline has not played. That happens often in a CP-file, just an example: if you insert a button, with as Success action 'Go to Next Slide', the part of the timeline after the pausing point will not be played, thus the slide will not be considered as totally viewed.
Is this a linear course or do you allow to go Back? I have proposed a solution somewhere in a thread, by creating a user variable as a counter, that will be incremented whenever a slide is visited for the first time (on Enter event, because that will always be executed, which is not the case for On Exit). And activate a button on the last slide with a score that will be only made visible when the counter has reached the total amount of slides. If this score is set as passing score, this should work with any SCORM-compliant LMS.
