Transferring from PowerMac to Mac Pro

Hi All-
Couple of questions. My beautiful Power Mac has finally become out of date - for my business at least - though I plan to use it for personal use. Today I purchase a Mac Pro and I'm currently installing software, etc. I want to wipe clean and do a fresh install on the old machine. It has all of my personal junk - like pics and music, etc. I can back those up on one of my external HDs and also transfer it over to this new Mac Pro (I presume). If I transfer those music folders from computer to computer and authorize everything in iTunes, will all play well? Any tips/tricks/lessons learned to make this easier? Also, will my album artwork - much of which I had to manually add (like Beatles, for example) carry over as well? Will the settings on the info tab (like volume settings, etc.) all carryover also?
I just want to do this the best most efficient way before I do the clean install and lose all of that music...
Regards,
David

1. De-authorise your old machine if it's not to be used for iTunes
2. Then see this article for how to transfer via external HD and keep all your playlists, ratings etc :
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/articles/comments/moving-your-itunes-library-to -a-new-hard-drive
However, if you had a 'regular' setup on the PowerMac (iTunes folder in your Music folder, and iTunes Music folder organised etc) then you could transfer the iTunes folder directly to the new Mac IN THE SAME PLACE, keeping all the user account names, folder names, paths etc, the same - then the iTunes Library may not even notice it's on a different computer..

  • PostScript PPD - transferring from G5 to Mac Pro

I have an Epson ALC1900PS. The installer for the PostScript PPD is OS9, so I'll have to transfer the PPD manually from its current location (a G5) to its new location (a Mac Pro).
In Library>Printers>PPDs>Contents>Resources there are two files:
    EPSON AL-C1900 PS3
    EPSON AL-C1900.gz
Should I copy both these files to the corresponding folder on the Mac Pro?
Are there any other files that I need to transfer?

If all that the installer installs is the PPD, then, yes, you can copy those files to the same folders on the other machine. According to http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669?viewlocale=en_US, though, there is a driver for this printer included with Snow Leopard. Is there a reason you're not using that driver?
You can place the PPD file anywhere on your system and use the Other menu in AddPrinter when adding the printer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Just uploaded apps from iPhone to Mac Pro but i can't open apps on mac pro?

Just uploaded apps from iphone to Mac pro but i can't open the apps - Why?

    Hi richard915,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
Do you mean that you transferred your purchases from the iPhone to your Mac pro?  You can also set your Mac's iTunes preferences to automatically download purchases made to it.  You'd have to check the specifics for the app that you are having an issue with, but some apps that are designed for the iPhone won't work on your Mac. Developers usually create two versions of their software.

It's because the PowerMac G5 had HUGE bandwidth with a fat BUS on each processsor so they could run hard, hot and heavy.
It's not so with the Intel processors which are multi-core and share a common bus thus bottleneck.
The newer Intel processors can do more work on the CPU, but when it comes to in/out they are s-l-o-w.
I've had a wickedly fast dual processor (not dual core) G5, RAID 0 pair of 10,000 RPM drives as boot and a fast video card, I could do a lot very very fast.
You'll likely have to upgrade to Final Cut X to get more cores utilized, prepare to cry a little bit, Apple is working on the features they stripped out of it to make amends to pro users who complained loudly. (all over TV too)

These may be different issues, but lets look at rentals first.
Poor motion can result from mismatched output. If your source is 24 or 30 fps you should set the output of the Apple TV to 60 Hz, for 25 fps content use 50 Hz.
Additionally motion software on the TV itself can cause the picture to jump, check your TV settings and turn off any motion settings in use,

  • HT4889 How do I get the files that transferred from my old mac to this new mac to all merge so I am not using 2 set ups? In other words, I have stuff on the "new mac" and everything else on the "old mac" even though they are on the same computer.

I need to merge my files that were transferred from my old mac to my new mac - for some reason I now have 2 separate setups on my new mac.  I need everything merged to one account.
    Thanks!

Did you use Migration Assistant? If you set up your new Mac first, you created a user account and when you used MA later, it transferred over the old one. The only way to avoid that is to use Setup Assistant at the beginning of the setup. I used MA once and spent a long time getting rid of duplicates - you can either do that manually or start over: use recovery (Command + R or Command + Option + R keys) during startup, go to Utilities > Disk Utility, erase your disk and download/install again. While going through the setup, use Setup Assistant - it will port over your one and only user account rather than create another.

  • GeForce 7300 GT from the old MAC Pro don't work on a new mac pro why ?

    Hello,
I have buy a GeForce 7300 GT on eBay, i think this one come from the old mac pro.
I have put it on my new MAC PRO and my mac don't see it...
    Why ?
    Can i have a drivers ?
    TY for your help ^^

Apple was emailing people that did, not sure if they still do.
It would be so easy to say "Mac Pro (2008) or later" instead we have:
Compatibility: * Requires Mac Pro with PCI-Express 2.0
Which not everyone knows is, or means "Mac Pro (2008)"
They do need a tech note or knowledge base to go along.

  • Analogue Stereo Audio Output from the New Mac Pro

Does anyone know what the analogue stereo audio output from the new Mac Pro is? From the specification, there appears to be a stereo output for headphones, but it is unclear what other audio outputs are available and whether a stand-alone amplifier is required to drive small stereo speakers. Yan (UK)

It is line-level. You will need powered speakers or an amplifier.

just  the audio, eh?. If you were using DVI or DisplayPort that might be different, but for audio alone, it shouldn't be that hard.  Just grab a 3.5 mm stereo plug to 2 rca cables adapter. Plug the smaller end into the back of your Mac Pro (or the Front), where you see either the headphone or speaker icon). Alt-click on the speaker icon at the top of your screen to show all audio inputs and outputs. Make sure it's set to Line Out.  Plug the red and white end into the audio in jacks on the back of your tv and set it to the correct input. I don't know if your tv will allow just the audio to play. Usually one has to connect up something else, but hopefully I'm wrong.  If you were using DVI, or DisplayPort, you'd need an active DVI--HDMI adapter or a DisplayPort to HDMI adapter, but
    I don't know for sure
