Transition to using DLU

Hello:
Currently, our machines all have a local account named "Workstation" that does an "Autologin" after the user authenticates to NDS. We are transitioning to using DLU and have a procedure for creating a new account and doing a CopyTo from the "Workstation" account to the new users account. Our policy is set to "Manage existing account".
My question: Is there a problem with simply renaming the local Workstation account to the NDS username and leaving the local Profile as Workstation (C:\Documents and Settings\Workstation)?
This would save a considerable amount of time; however, do not want to proceed if there may be associated problems with doing this.
Regards,

Thanks for your reply.
All that I was trying to determine was if you simply rename the Workstation account will it still use the Workstation Profile (C:\Documents and Settings\Workstation), and would there be any unforeseen problems created by doing this.
eg.
UserA logs in however instead of creating a new local profile, it attaches to the Workstation profile that already exists.
After much testing, we have determined that this works fine. Each user is tied to a unique SID and so even if the username is changed it continues to use the same profile regardless.
The end state or when a new machine is given to a user, they will have an account which matches the local profile: UserA logs in and uses the C:\Documents and Settings\UserA account). No local workstation account.
To overcome the as you put it "Chicken and egg" problem. We are only dealing with mobile users first and having to associate users to the policy as we go...
Cheers,
Jon

user to rename the local profile to until they login? and if they login,
you can't change the profile while its being used.
I guess its not really clear what you want your end state to be.
Do you want the local workstation account to still exist (i.e. to provide a
non-edirectory local login)
but allow DLU to create individual accounts?
If this is the case, you may want to do soemething like this:
Create your DLU policy, but do NOT manage local accounts.
have DLU make accoutns with the edirectory name (and make them non-volitile
unless you need that or are using roaming profiles, which doesn't sound to
be the case).
Then, in your DLU policy, you can grant local file access to DLU accounts.
Add in C:\Documents and Settings\Workstation\Desktop, Favorites, My Docs,
etc
to the file permissions (read only if you want, or R/W)
That way when you transition, if people have files on the local computer,
they can copy/move them to thier new profile fairly easily.
You can also disable logins on the local account (but keep it alive if
needed) fairly easily with a zen app.

  • How do I create an orange flash transition effect using Adobe Premiere CS6?

    I am trying to create an orange flash transition effect using Adobe Premiere CS6 with my MAC computer.

    Try this:
    Add Cross Dissolve, cut and nest
    Add a Fast Blur to the nest and tweak as in first screendump
    Superimpose orange Color Matte and tweak as in second screendump
    Make (fixed) effects into presets for future use.
    Good luck.

  • Is the "deadline" variable also set when the Due transition is used ?

    Hi,
    I needed to understand if the 'deadline' variable is also set when the due transition is used. The reason I am asking is because of the following scenario that we saw:
    1. There is a Due transition form an interactive activity to an automatic
    2. The automatic had a Syntax error (typo) in a SQL statement
    3. When the instance reached this automatic... the instance aborted... [process level Exception level handling is not present :( ]
    My first thought was that there was an instanceExpiration exception, but was not certain.
    An leads would be nice...

    1. The exception is seen in the Engine Logs, but the strange thing is that sometimes the Expection is caught within the localized exception block and still manages to bubble up to the process level exception handler...If you have a 'throw ex' in your catch block its supposed to propagate up to the process level... (there is a setting to prevent this...)
    2. I tried adding the throws clause in the catch block to force it to always bubble up to the process level exception handle, this does not always happenThis sounds strange, that it doesn't always happen? Right click on the project, and go to Preferences, in the Processes category, set the Exception Handling to 'Propagate', that should send the error the parent process.
    3. I tried removing the localized catch blocks to always be caught by the process level handler... this also does not happen consistently... The exception is seen in the engine log and the instance goes on its merry wayIf the exception gets caught, (without an additional 'throw') the instance will continue...

    I recently found the side by side effect in iMovie '11 and I love it. The only issue is that when I try to add in transitions between clips, the transitions won't show up. If anyone has any idea on what I can do, please let me know. Thanks

    well, technically, that is true, although you could fake it a bit, if instead of side by side transitions, you used the picture in picture instead, you can specify a few transitions with that from the gear menu-

  • Is there a way to create a smooth transition while using a cutaway?

    I'm creating a music video for my band and I have a great scene that I've 'dropped in' the middle of a clip with the audio muted. The problem is, because of the movement in the clip it looks like a very sloppy edit and could really benefit from a cross dissolve transition. Unfortunately every attempt to drag, drop, assign a tranisition over a cutaway ends in failure. Is this possible. And no I'd perfer NOT to split the clip at edit points, drop the new clip in and manually try to sync the audio. Honestly iMovie is extremely imperfect at that.
    Any answer is appreciated.
    Message was edited by: wheresgrant1

    I don't believe it is possible to apply transitions to a cutaway directly.
    hmmm I see what a pain this is. You are right. There might be a round about way.
    You might try to improve your cutaway clip first in a project all by itself. Then add it to your full vid.
    another roundabout way:
    There is no need to resync the audio. Right click on the original track. Select detach audio. Choose the cutaway clip and drag it onto the original one. Make it so the ends are where you want them.
    Now zoom in all the way and select the frame where the clip starts (use the left and right arrows to help). Split the original clip at this point. Do the same for the end. Now the selection you remove will be the same length as your cutaway and audio will stay in sync. Then copy the cutaway, delete both the original split section and cutaway, and paste the "cutaway" into the space.
    a pain, but seems to work?

  • Is there a way to control "push" page transitions when using up/down keys to navigate a PDF?

    I have a multi-page PDF designed with push page transitions. When using the forward/back arrow keys or the interactive buttons I have designed on the page, the push navigation direction changes whether one is moving forward in the PDF or back. However, if I use the mouse scroll button or up/down arrow keys to navigate, the push navigation only animates from the same direction...and therefore makes it look as if the user is only moving "forward" in the book. Is there a way to control this effect more precisely?
    I am creating the document with InDesign CC 2014, adding the page transitions within the file, and exporting to interactive PDF using the setting "Page Transitions: From Document".

    I don't think the iPad has it in it to control another device. Unless there's an app for it to be a remote control, but I'd imagine that it woudl be very brand specific.
    You can certainly experiment with the VGA or HDMI adapters, but I wouldn't put total faith in them unless you had the ability to experiment prior to your presentation. I'd definitely have a backup plan.

  • Setting up a transition by using Fade, Move, RemoveAction and AddAction

    Hi,
    I've been working on a transition for a few days now but I can't seem to get it to animate how I envisioned it. I'm pretty new at Flex so I decided to check with you guys here just to see if I'm approaching the issue from the right angle.
    After fiddling with the transition in our application I decided to create a dummy project and try to create the animation there. I want a transition where a group of text inputs fades out and moves to the left followed by a group of text inputs fading in and moving from right to left to take the place of the first group.
    I've defined two states, one where the first group of inputs is visible and one where the second group of inputs is visible:
    <s:states>
    <s:State id="A" name="A" stateGroups="groupA" />
    <s:State id="B" name="B" stateGroups="groupB" />
    </s:states>
    Below are the components I'm trying to animate:
    <s:VGroup id="mainGroup" paddingTop="500" gap="20" width="100%" height="100%">
    <s:Group id="textSurroundingGroupA" height="50%" width="100%" >
    <s:Rect id="rectA" width="100%" height="100%">
    <s:stroke>
    <s:SolidColorStroke color="0x000000" weight="1" />
    </s:stroke>
    </s:Rect>
    <s:VGroup id="textGroupA" includeIn="groupA" width="100%" height="100%" >
    <s:TextInput id="txt1" text="TEST1" />
    <s:TextInput id="txt2" text="TEST2" />
    <s:TextInput id="txt3" text="TEST3" />
    </s:VGroup>
    </s:Group>
    <s:Group id="textSurroundingGroupB" height="50%" width="100%">
    <s:Rect id="rectB" width="100%" height="100%">
    <s:stroke>
    <s:SolidColorStroke color="0x000000" weight="1" />
    </s:stroke>
    </s:Rect>
    <s:VGroup id="textGroupB" includeIn="groupB" width="100%" height="100%" >
    <s:TextInput id="txt4" text="TEST4" />
    <s:TextInput id="txt5" text="TEST5" />
    <s:TextInput id="txt6" text="TEST6" />
    </s:VGroup>
    </s:Group>
    <s:Button label="Switch" click="button1_clickHandler(event)" /> // the event here is a quick function that switches this.currentState from A to B and vice versa, nothing else
    <s:TextInput text="{this.currentState}" />
    </s:VGroup>
    As you can see, there are two VGroups which I've surrounded with rectangles so I can see what's going on as they animate. Also, the VGroups are surrounded by Groups because I've read online that you can't animate components within VGroup with <s:Move> because VGroup forces its layout over any of its components while ignoring animations.
    Below is the transition:
    <s:transitions>
    <s:Transition fromState="A" toState="B">
    <s:Sequence>
    <s:Parallel duration="1400">
    <s:Move target="{textGroupA}" xFrom="0" xTo="100" />
    <s:Fade target="{textGroupA}" alphaFrom="1.0" alphaTo="0.0" />
    </s:Parallel>
    <s:RemoveAction target="{textSurroundingGroupA}" />
    <s:AddAction target="{textSurroundingGroupB}" />
    <s:Parallel duration="1400">
    <s:Move target="{textGroupB}" xFrom="100" xTo="0" />
    <s:Fade target="{textGroupB}" alphaFrom="0.0" alphaTo="1.0" />
    </s:Parallel>
    </s:Sequence>
    </s:Transition>
    </s:transitions>
    I have a few problems with this transition:
    1. The rectangles and surrounding groups stay visible and still exist after the state switches to B. This causes the B group to fade in and show below where the A group was. The effect we're trying to create is group B taking the place of group A. I thought RemoveAction triggers a RemoveChild() call on the displayList. If I removed "textSurroundingGroupA" and all its children, how can they still be visible and visually take up space?
    2. Group B immediately pops into view when the transition is triggered and then animates. I presumed that AddAction would delay adding group B to the displayList until <s:AddAction> gets its turn in the transition sequence. Is this not the case?
    What's the best way to get a transition like this? Are there any best practices? How can I easily use a reversed sequence of this animation to move from state B to A?
    Sorry for the long post but I'm sure if anyone can help me it's you guys.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Transitions created using Canvas Edit overlay don't require handles?

    I have a question about creating transitions.
    First, let me explain how I got the clips I'm using, because this might be important.
    I used Capture Now to import 60 minutes of DV, resulting in one long clip. Next, I used Mark>DV Start/Stop Detect to mark the different scenes in the captured clip. Finally, I selected all the marked scenes and chose Modify>Make Subclip. This is the procedure described in Lisa Brenneis' Final Cut Express HD for Mac OS X Visual Quickstart Guide.
    Now to start assembling my sequence, with occasional transitions between subclips.
    (1) I drag the first subclip to the timeline. So far, so good.
    (2) I drag the next subclip to the Canvas, which changes to show the Canvas Edit overlay. I drop the subclip on the Insert>With Transition. The second subclip is added to the timeline, complete with transition between the first and second subclips.
    (3) Next, I drag the next subclip to the Canvas, and drop it on Insert (without transition) and it is added to the sequence. I decided I wanted a transition after all, so I select the edit point between the second and third subclip and chose a transition. However, I get the error message, "Insufficient content for edit."
    If I check the clips in the viewer, the In and Out points for ALL the subclips are at the outside ends of the clip (the whole subclip is between the In and Out points). There are no handles, as far as I understand the concept.
    I have read in these forums, to create a transition, you have to have handles outside the In and Out points of the clip. It appears that all of these subclips have no handles. Why, then, can I make a transition when dropping a given clip on the Canvas Edit overlay? Why doesn't it work when the clip is put in the timeline first?
    I'm just transitioning (no pun intended) from iMovie to FCE and I'm trying to get to the point where making transitions in FCE is as easy as it was in iMovie. Using the Canvas Edit overlay seems to be a quick and easy way to create a transition without worrying about handles and In and Out points, but if I want to add a transition after the clip is in the sequence, I'm out of luck.
    Any help is appreciated.

    I always insert transitions in the Timeline and trim
    the ends of the clips with the Razor Blade tool - but
    there are lots of other ways.
    I haven't learned about the Razor Blade tool yet, but I'm wondering if that tool or any other tool will let you trim the ends of a clip by exactly a certain number of frames (15 for a 1 second transition). If I could do that quickly with the two clips, that would make the process easier.
    Most professionals/skilled amateurs don't find
    trimming clips a problem because they very rarely use
    all their footage - most clips will have unnecessary
    material at each end, or even in the middle! It's
    quite normal to use only 10% of what was shot.
    I suspect that is true, but right now I have two main tasks: (1) I'm archiving all the DV of my kids, unedited, to disk for later editing, so I'm capturing all of it, without selecting which footage to save, and (2) I occasionally make a quick movie of a birthday or some special event, with emphasis on quick. I'm not yet accustomed to trimming clips for transitions, and maybe iMovie has given me the bad habit of using clips too often in their entirety.
    Maybe the quickest way to deal with your dodgy clip
    would be to highlight it and press Delete. Then just
    drag it again from the Browser into the Canvas and
    drop it on Insert with Transition.
    Yes, that would work unless I decide to use a transition other than the default. And as Mr. Wolski noted in his post, I'm actually only getting 1/2 a transition (end of edit).
    Thanks to all for their contributions. I hope your responses will help me further develop my rudimentary beginner's skills in FCE.

  • Inserting transitions without using footage

    Hi,
    I have a transition question, (relating to FCP X 10.0.3), I'm adding transitions between clips, I seem to recall that I used to drag a transition across, and as I got to insert it the clips would automatically part and the transition would drop in.
    Now when I drag a transition, FCP X says it needs to use footage from either side to generate the transition, and generate it or cancel it. This is fine with long clips but not so good with the short ones. Does anyone know what I need to change to get this behaviour back?
    Thanks in advance

    You don't seem to be aware of the importance of having HANDLES. Handles are pieces of your clip before and after the part that is used in the timeline. The handles are what FCP X uses when you create a transition.
    When you select part of a clip inside an event (by dragging or setting an In and an Out point), and then insert this selection in a timeline, the outer bits of your clip that didn't get selected - i.e., the Handles - will be used for transitions. If you select ALL your clip, there are no handles. This has nothing to do with the length of the clip.
    Having handles is the right way to do it and I hope that you will come to appreciate it.
    If you force a transition without having handles, all your content to the right of the transition will be shifted, and the length of your movie will be reduced. This is BAD, as it will mess up things. For example, if you have a sound clip connected to your storyline and some images further down the story were synched to a beat in the music, they will become out of sync.

  • Advice on transitions to use

    Which transition would you recommend to separate different segments for a high energy portfolio piece. So one segment might showcase video projects and I want a transition that will separate each video piece being shown. I was thinking of a wipe, curious to what you would use.
    Thanks for any advice.

    star transition. If nothing else, no one has actually seen one in a long long time. It will get their attention - though perhaps not on the positive side of things. It depends on their sense of humor I suppose.

  • Best transitions to use for web video

    My client would like more transitions to 'smooth' some edits for a web video. The transitions should be pretty traditional (no checkerboard) but the main choices that look ok seem to be wipe and slide. Dissolves don't really look right.
    Any ideas on this? Best ones to use? plug-ins? Thanks.

    For anyone that has a similar issue to the one listed here, when editing an interview down to a 5-minute piece with no b-roll or stills, I found that using transitions like luminance map, and QT gradient wipe are some good options - for web viewing.

  • Menu Transitions when using scripting

    I have a need to have a script run when the user selects "Next Menu" or "Prev. Menu" (to set a value in a GPRM). The script sets a value and then jumps to a button on the next menu.
    The problem is that the transition set for the menu does not work correctly. EG A cube transition rotates to black (should see the next menu) and the screen is black for a few seconds and then the menu suddenly pops up. If I set the target to the next menu directly (without using the script to jump to the menu, it works OK.
    What gives here???
    Thanks

    The reason why is that when using a script, the player must go to another domain on the disc, where the script is sitting.
    Really no way to get around this in DVDSP. Avoid using scripts and transition unless you can live with black screen.

  • Lost transitions when using, send to, from FCP

    Hi,
    I just used, send to Motion, on 2 stills from FCPv6 that had a cross fade between them. Once they got to Motion they had lost that cross fade. How do I make FCP send the transition as well?
    Best wishes

    Message was edited by: Michael Curtis

    I'd set it all up in FCP - straight cuts, to time everything to the music, vo, or whatever, then send it all to Motion, where I'd do the zooms and scans - you need to extend the end of each clip to create overlap for the fade in/fade out behavior, and you need to change the scale interpolation to bezier to match position (which is bezier by default) for perfect starts and stops, but it's faster and easier by far than doing it in FCP - and realtime playback as you work.
