Translucent browser window in iWeb.

Dear members:
I am in the process of designing a web site using iWeb and would like to create some links that open on external browser windows but the type that looks translucent (with a dark translucent background). This window usually doesn't have the menu bar above and only an "X" at the top that the user must click on to have it closed.
Another type of window that I would be interested in creating is the type that appears on Panic's web site (www.panic.com) when you click on the "Screenshots" icons on the bottom of the page. Anyone has any idea of how to create this effect ?
How can this be type of window be created in iWeb ?
Thank you in advance,
Joseph Chamberlain

Translucent image display is based on Lightbox, there are many variations of it such as Thickbox, Greybox and Lytebox... by far Lytebox is easiest to implement.
The image display at panic is called FancyZoom.
That said, all these methods are javascript driven, so get yourself familiar with javascript.
The next huddle you will face is that most these AJAX (if not all) require to be linked in the page head element/section ad that can not be done directly in iweb, you have to post process it (somehow).
But you can get away if you know your javascript.
Here are a few examples, when you hit these examples... please wait for the page completely loaded, my javascript has to wait for iWeb javascript to finish first:

none photos page:

Everything is done with iWeb2 and javascript, no post editing of page source code.

  • IWeb link opening in a external (new) browser window.

    Dear members:
    After making several unsuccessful attempts to find this information I decided to post a questions here to see if anyone has the answer.
    I have created two web site with several web pages in iWeb but haven't been able to add links to a page that open not in that same page but to open in an extra (external) browser window. Is there a way to make a link open in a different browser window than the one that has the page with the link ?
    Another question I have refers to iWeb's display of some images. For my web sites I chose one of the templates offered with the program. In one of the pages there are small portions of text followed by a square image next to it. Some of the images in iWeb work as placeholders that are replaced by the final images once they are dragged and dropped over them. However, this small images following the text don't behave like that. They simply aren't replaced. I tried to "overlay" the final images over the template ones thinking that once the site was published they would be replaced. Actually, after posting the web site I noticed that when the pages load the template images show up first and them the ones I placed over them beginning to cover them.
    Why is this happening and how can I solve this problem ?
    Thank you in advance for your help.

    Dear varkgirl:
    Thank you very much for your help and valuable suggestion.
    I've tried your suggestion but ran into some problems. The links I am trying to open in another window are actually PDF files that the viewer can download from my website.
    Since I was having problems I decided to try something else. After publishing the website to my desktop I then opened the pages where the links are in Dreamweaver. The layout view is great and displayed the image just the way it appears on the browser's window. I first selected the "link button" to the file and then in the inspector windows (bottom of the page) I chose under target the "_blank" option. This tells the software that the linked page or file is to be opened in a new blank browser window. I then saved the page (re-saved it over the existing file) to incorporate the changes. After this I proceeded to navigate through the website and everything works great.
    Thank you for your help and suggestions. I just thought I would post this here in case it may be of help to you as well as others.
    Best regards,

  • Do NOT want to open link in a new browser window - iWeb '09

    I do not want links that navigate around my website to open a new browser window every time. Right now, for example, From my main page, I click a link to a secondary page, it opens it in a new window, I then click the link back to my main page, and it opens in a new window. I now have 3 windows open.
    I am not using the navigation bar as it set ups with iWeb (I have it hidden). I am using hyperlinks I attached to text boxes. Would this problem be remedied if I was using the navigation bar? If so, is there anyway to edit the appearance of the navigation bar and it's location on the page?
    Primarily though, I would like my text hyperlinks to just navigate my page and not open in new windows.
    Thanks!

    And that's the way it should be.
    If you look at this page about navigation you'll see that the main navigation uses eternal links and the sub navigation internal ones....

  • Filling up Browser window with color in IWeb

    The default IWeb page does not fill the screen and the background color does not overlap the borders to fill the screen in a browser. In other words if your page has a brown background/border it does not bleed over to fill the full browser window when viewed on the web.
    I have seen some examples of IWeb sites that manage to do this though. Can anyone explain how to extend the background color of your page to fill the full screen in a browser?

    Go to the Page inspector Layout window and choose a Browser Background the same as your Page Background.

  • Configuring the browser window title for an iWeb-created page?

    Hello all,
    How do you customize the text that appears in the browser window's title for an iWeb-created page? (e.g., at the top of the browser window where it says "Apple - Support - Discussions - etc."). I had assumed that the the name I designated for the page via the Inspector would be used as the browser window title, but instead iWeb is using the first line of text within the page itself.
    Thanks!

    You can do it with a HTML snippet with the following code:
    <script type='text/javascript'>
    parent.document.title = "name you want to appear at the top of the window";
    </script>
    It takes about a second or two to replace the original text as can be seen in this test page.
    Put the snippet box off somewhere where it won't overlap on any other element. It is invisible on the web page and in iWeb until you click on it. I had to do a Select All to find it just now to get the code.

  • Making a hyperlink open the linked page in a new browser window

    Does anyone know if iWeb allows a way to create a hyperlink such that it will open a new browser window rather than navigating away from your site?

  • 2 simple questions about opening and closing seperate windows via iWeb...

    I'm a web newbie, so please excuse me for my lack of terminology. My questions are... 1. How do i have iWeb open a separate browser window "simultaneously" from my main page to display a quicktime movie or piece of artwork? 2. Is it possible with iWeb to create a "close" window button within that same seperate window so that the veiwer does not have to click the red button in the upper left hand corner. Thanks guys and girls!
    G5 Dual 2.3   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

    Sorry! i meant I tried all of the links that are on your web page. There are quite a few of them and I watched most of the movies but there aren't any that open on a new window with a link to close it. I thought that happened because I had a pop-up blocker but even after dissabling the blocker and trying opening some of them again they still opened in the same window. I did come accross a couple of links that changed the window and made it do wacky thinks like moving fast left and right and forcing the window to get smaller. Kinda fun but this is not what I had in mind.. lol The rollover javascript is nice but I couldn't find it on the page's source. Is it the part that says "<script language="JavaScript1.2" src=..."? I'm just curious to know which software you used to make the flash movies and how difficult it was. Maya rocks by the way!

  • Can you change the design to adjust with the size of the browser window?

    I am creating my first site in iWeb, and would like the image in the background to adjust as someone adjusts the size of their browser window.  In other words, no matter what size their window is, the entire page fits.  I would like it to accomodate small to large computers and windows without them having to scroll up/down or sideways.
    Any ideas on how to do that?
    Thanks!

    Thanks Wyodor,
    I apologize, but apparently I typed "background" image instead of just an image.  I have an image on the page that I would like to size to do the same thing.  There are layered images on top of it, and I need those images to remain in the same place because they are hyperlinked images that take them to another page. I have attached a photo of what it looks like here.
    The agree and disagree buttons are the hyperlinks, and I want them to stay static with the image underneath them.  I know that if I put the larger green image as a background image, to have it dynamic, the agree and disagree buttons would not stay in the correct spot when the browser size is adjusted. Thus, it brings me back to my question (but phrased correctly this time)... is there a way to have the entire site, images and all, be dynamic with the size of the browser? No matter what the size of the browser window, I would like the whole page to show so the hyperlink images stay with the image they are on top of.
    Thanks!

  • Opening link in separate browser window

    Is there a way to make a NEW browser window open when creating a hyperlink to a page outside (external) of my website? My external links always open in the same window as my website resulting in the viewer being taken off my site.

    Check out this link:
    http://web.mac.com/varkgirl/iWeb/Aardvarkland/Open%20links%20in%20new%20window.h tml
    Basic summary of what the link says:
    1. Publish your page. Changes will be made in the published files.
    2. Get MassReplaceIt
    http://www.hexmonkeysoftware.com
    http://web.mac.com/will.englefield/iWeb/WillG4PB/MRI.html
    3. Set up MassReplaceIt
    Find
    href="http
    replace with
    target="_blank" href="http
    This will change all of your external links to open in a new window and leave your internal links as is.
    Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Save your query in MRI for next time

  • How to open the browser window of the user to the size of the webpage ?

    Hello,
    My webpages are 1000 x 600 pixels, and I would like the browser window of any user opens in that size for he can see the website as I want to. Is it possible ? I guess it is because the pop-up windows of a "photo page" open to the size of the pictures (when you click on the miniature pictures), so iWeb should have this possibility.
    Can you help ?
    Thank you very much.
    Julien

    Here are some basic instructions for making html changes after publishing in iWeb:
    1. Publish your site via iWeb
    2. Find your html files.
    Go to iDisk/Web/Sites/iWeb/Sitename/Pagename.html
    (If you publish to a folder, look in the folder you selected or try looking in your Sites folder of your home folder. )
    There are two ways to handle accessing your iDisk.
    Method 1:
    Turn on local copy of your iDisk in System Prefs, with or without automatic syncing.
    If you publish your site via iWeb, now the updated pages exist online but the old pages are on your local iDisk. You need to sync (automatically or manually) to get the new pages on your local iDisk (on your computer).
    Then you can open the updated files, make your html changes in Text Edit or whatever program, and SYNC AGAIN (automatically or manually) to update the online version of the site to match what you have just changed on your local iDisk
    Method 2:
    Mount the iDisk when needed via the "Go" menu in Finder. This is the ONLINE VERSION of your iDisk, not a local copy. When you publish your site via iWeb, the changes INSTANTLY appear on the iDisk on your desktop. If you make html edits or other changes, they appear INSTANTLY online.
    I recommend Method 2 - much easier!!!
    3. Make the html changes.
    You can open the html files generated by iWeb in any text or html editor. In TextEdit, to view the code in an HTML file, choose File > Open and select "Ignore rich text commands." Then locate the .html file (as described in step 2) and click Open.
    Make your changes (i.e. follow the directions on the link provided by James - it worked for me when I entered that page, so the 2000 suggestion still works!) and don't forget to save your changes (not Save As, just Save)!!!
    4. Remember, if you make a change to a page like this post-publishing, and later re-publish, you have to make the html changes again! Set up a Find/Replace command in MassReplaceIt and you can do this very quickly. You can save your queries so you can make all of your changes with one click the next time you save.

  • How can you stop slideshow from resizing the browser window iframe ?

    Does anyone know where the code is that causes the iweb slideshow to resize the browser window when it is opened?
    When it is placed on a page using <iframe src="http://homepage.mac.com/coreydee/slideshow/index.html" width="760" height="580" scrolling="no" style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe> It resizes the browser window when it starts.

    Does anyone know where the code is that causes the
    iweb slideshow to resize the browser window when it
    is opened?
    When it is placed on a page using <iframe
    src="http://homepage.mac.com/coreydee/slideshow/index.
    html" width="760" height="580" scrolling="no"
    style="border:none;" frameborder="0"></iframe> It
    resizes the browser window when it starts.
    The iWeb .Mac slideshow, which you previously tried to add in an iframe, does have a function to resize the window. But it would not cause the whole window to resize, just page within the iframe so you would never know.
    However, the autoviewer one you are using should not do this.

  • Change a browser window title

    How do I add/change a browser window page title using iWeb?

    iWeb uses the textbox in the Header layer of an iWeb page as the title in the browserwindow.
    If the textbox in the Header is missing, iWeb uses a textbox down the page in the Content layer.
    If that textbox is also missing, it uses another textbox.
    If that fails it uses the pagename in the Sidebar.
    To replace a missing textbox in the Header, choose another theme and then change it back to the original one.
    Sometimes you may want a different text in the titlebar and not display it on the page itself. Or not display it at all.
    So use that textbox in the Header layer.
    Type your text.
    Do Command-T to open the font palette and make the font smaller (Or do Command--(minus)).
    Then select the textbox.
    In the Inspector choose T, click a color to open the color palette and drag the opacity slider to 0 (zero).
    Resize the textbox. You may want to change the height of the Header layer.
    Do Command-Shift-B to move the textbox to the back, possibly behind other objects.
    Next add a optional second textbox to the Header layer and use that one to display text on the page.
    If you want to move the textbox to the front again to make changes, but can't remember the location on the page, drag the area with the mouse to select the objects.
    Deselect objects you do not want to move forward by Command-dragging  the mouse over these objects.
    Next do Command-Shift-F to move the textbox to the front. Repeat the steps in reverse order to make the text visible.
    And here's a movie that show how to partially hide the title :

    So far I haven't found a way to use something link "target=_blank"One way would be to use a Dynamic Action to apply the <tt>target="_blank"</tt> attribute to each link, or convert them to use APEX pop-ups or a jQuery lightbox like fancyBox.
    Create an example on apex.oracle.com if you need more assistance.
