Treadmill Purchase Questions

I wasn't sure where this question should be posted (Health & Fitness or BB Policies), so I chose this one. I'm assuming it will be moved if I'm incorrect.
I'm considering purchasing the Proform Performance 1850 treadmill (PFTL20511), which I understand is a "special order". Unfortunately, I have a few questions about delivery, installation and warranty of such items. I've searched the website but so far haven't been able to find the specific answers I'm looking for. The questions I have are listed below. I'm hoping that someone on this board can answer one or more of them, or perhaps point me in the right direction for obtaining the answers. I apologize in advance for the length of this post, but considering that this would be nearly a $2K purchase, I'm simply trying to do my "homework" before taking the plunge.
* Regarding delivery and installation, the special order information says "Service includes product delivery and basic installation, but does not include specialty installation. See details on Delivery and Installation Services.". So my first question is, what does "basic installation" mean in terms of a treadmill? I understand that these things come on a pallet and can take hours to assemble. Clicking on the "details" link only provides detailed information on specific major appliances (Dryers, Stoves, etc...) but there is no information related to Fitness Equipment and/or Treadmills. In fact, the section that lists equipment requiring "special installation" doesn't mention any fitness equipment whatsoever.
* That leads me to my next two questions, Does Best Buy offer assembly services for Treadmills? If so, where can I go to find information about that service (cost, terms, etc...) ? Again, there is no mention of that on the BB website.
* From what I'm able to see, BB does not offer any additional protection plans for this item. Using the website, I went through the steps of placing an order for the treadmill, holding short of the final confirmation. On no screen was a protection plan ever offered, nor were there any links or pop-ups offering such a plan (as I have seen when ordering other productions from BB). So does this in fact imply that BB does not offer protection plans for treadmills, or have I missed something?
* Finally, what is Best Buy's return/replacment policy on fitness equipment that is faulty right "out of the box"? Here's a dreaded scenario. The unit is delivered, removed from the pallet and unboxed. After hours of assembly it is determined that some part is defective or has somehow been damaged (perhaps during transit). Chances are by that point re-boxing it and getting it back on a pallet is not an option. Can a customer still get the defective unit replaced or perhaps even return it for a credit?
Thanks.

I know this is waaaay down the road but since nobody answered, for special delivery items they are simply dropped off. That is all. I haven't seen protection plans available on large exercise equipment but I have assumed it isn't offered. Yes returns are possible. It would have to somehow be made shipable or you would have to return it to a local store which doesn't sound like much fun either.

  • Mac Mini Purchase Question HDTV

    Hello,
I want to buy a mac mini for an entertainment computer. I think the hdmi out will be great.
All I want to do is watch movies through my samsung 55" HDTV.
I am wondering if the basic model will be enough or should I get a suped up model.
If I need a suped up model, what do I need. More RAM, Processor Power, or what? I use a shared network drive at home so storage is not an issue.
    Thanks,
    James

"Watch movies" could mean a lot of things. If you are talking about purchased iTMS content then a minimum configuration will be fine. If you are talking about movies from other sources, then it becomes harder to answer the question without knowing more about the sources.
Certain very high bit rate content, like 1080p at high frame rates and encoded in such a way that hardware decoding can't be used...movies like that could give trouble without some thought and care put into the configuration. But most likely, you will be fine with a minimum configuration.

  • Movie Purchases Question

I am looking at purchasing an Apple TV. I like the idea of keeping my purchased movies on my Apple TV, rather than consuming HD space on my MBP. My single concern is whether I will be able to push those purchased movies from my Apple TV to my iPhone should I want to watch them when I travel?
Any help with this question is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

    not directly no.
you would need to sync it to an itunes library first, and then push it on to the iphone from itunes.

  • Usb 3.0 purchase question [solved]

Just thought I would ask the community a question before I make any hasty decisions. I have a Lenovo Y510 laptop ... it's coming up on 2 years old and is not as nearly as flash as it used to be, at least compared to the lappys my friends are now purchasing. I have no reason at all to buy a new laptop but I really want to be able to use USB 3.0. The only way I see this happening is with something like this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … -_-Product
Of course they don't advertise linux support, but I was wondering what IS support for these types of devices like on linux?

    There's a big catch-regardless of compatibility.
USB3.0 is designed for throughput of 5 Gigabit/second on each port.  PC ExpressCard 1.x only supports 2.5 Gigabit/second.  Even PC ExpressCard 2.0 (recently unveiled if memory serves), and a full PCi rail on an ATX mainboard only support a max of 5Gigabit/second, i.e. only ONE USB3 port at full bandwidth.  You see the problem, no?
The lesson here is that USB3.0 as a PC card on a laptop is only worth the trouble if you have a PCExpress 2.0 slot, and even then it only gives you 1 full speed port and nothing more.
Of course, I can't think of ANY peripheral device that can even take advantage of 5 Gigabit/second (or 600+Megabyte/second) of throughput.  No peripheral device to my knowledge out there can feed that much data through a bus at that speed today.

  • IPhone purchase question.....?

I recently ordered my iPhone 4 through the Apple site. But I already have on on preorder at Best Buy.
So my question is, if Best Buy calls me and says my iPhone 4 is in, can I pick it up from them, then cancel my purchase that I made through the Apple store?
    I was just wondering,
    Thanks in advance!!

You can cancel your order made via Apple's online store as long as the order status hasn't changed to prepared for shipment. Once the order status has changed to prepared for shipment, you can't cancel the order.

  • Software Purchase Question

    Hello All -
I am contemplating moving from PC to a MacBook Pro with Retina Display and a loaded up iMac.
My question pertains to the way that software is licensed via the App Store on an Apple. When you download an app, it can go to both an iphone and ipad. I am wondering if I were to download paid software(Finl Cut Pro, Motion, etc) onto my Macbook, would I also be able to access them on my iMac, or would I have to purchase separate licenses?
    THanks for any guidance!

Unless stipulated otherwise you can install any software purchased in the App Store on all the computers that your own. It is tied to your Apple ID so each computer should use the same Apple ID for authorization.
If you sell the computers at some later date you cannot transfer your license to a new owner. They must purchase their own software using their Apple ID.

  • Pre-Purchase Question, please...

    Dear Forum:
I have all or most of the technical considerations answered, regarding my decision to purchase a new MacPro 2.8, 10 gig ram, three 750 HD running Logic8.
The one final and perhaps just as important question is this:
After viewing the MacPro and Logic forums here for awhile, the one thing that I don't see is official support.
I can spend a lot of money for the new system and appart from the actual Mac as a machine with 3 year support for the machine/OS issues, I can't call or write here for official support, like I could with another software company or can I?
I thing it would be necessary to have such access because we are customers and waiting around for another customer to perhaps unofficially give me thier inpression is better than nothing, but I could site the many issues reported here with various problems or hard-to-find answers regarding the use of just MacOS and its file structure, etc.
What do we have as customer support officially regarding Logic and MacPro working in tandem?
    Phil

    dear poster:
for every issue you can site that is found in a forum supporting issues with a program, hardware or the OS, i can only imagine there are 10 or more people not posting how well everything seems to be working. I use logic and fcs on my mac pro and have not yet had any problems.
as far as support for software, do you really want support from the company. personally, and in my experience, i would rather get community support from real users of the software that bank on experience, not scripts.
This goes for any software package. I'd rather have a professional that uses the program brainstorming on how to do something rather then listen to someone in a call center venturing a guess.
if it is an issue or defect, then you talk to apple through feedback to get it resolved.
from my experience, working with a mac pro and logic, i haven't had any problems. if i did, i would report them to apple.
but i go back, reading the few problems here in the forums compared to the number of users NOT posting here, seems to me like everything is in pretty good order.
Plus, if you purchase Logic Studio, i believe you get 90 days of support from apple. so if you are setting up a system, i think they have you covered from top to bottom with hardware and software support if you need it.

  • IPhone 3G Purchase questions

Hi, I'm soon going to upgrade from my original Iphone to a 3g IPhone and I have a couple questions. I live in New York and might make the purchase at the 5th ave store or Soho store.
    1. The original Iphone is in my Dads name but I'm an autorized user on the account. Would he still have to go into the store to do the upgrade?
    2. Do I need a credit card to make the purchase of the Phone?
    Please reply, Thanks.

Yes, you need a credit card to purchase the iPhone.

  • New ipod and computer purchase questions

    A. Do people have less problems with their ipods with Apple computers or window computers?
    B. Does the 5G 30gb ipod support firewire and if so, do I have to purchase a firewire?
C.I was thinking of upgrading my daughters computer to USB 2.0 but heard horror stories of the 2.0's being incompatable and not working..

    A. This is a difficult question to answer but based
on the number of posts here only, I believe overall
people have less problems with an iPod and iTunes
using a Mac than a PC running Windows.
    B. Yes and No. It supports Firewire for charging
purposes only but to transfer data requires USB which
doesn't make most Mac users very happy. Switching
from Firewire to a USB requirement was to allow more
    support for PCs, not Macs.
    C. Purchase a new Mac which will have USB 2.0 ports
in addition to a Firewire port or ports and no
concerns about viruses, adware or spyware.

  • Post Purchase Question, AU, Core Audio

So following my previous post about whether or not I should buy LP8, I went out and bought it yesterday.
    I have another question:
What's the difference between Core Audio and Audio Units and which is better?? Coming from Cubase I understand that VST is the Cubase/Platform interface, but I was looking at how many of my plugins are compatible with LP8 and some list Audio Unit compatibility and others list Core Audio and Audio Unit.
    I'm a little confused
    Cheers
    T.
Message was edited by: Tony for Grammar

Core Audio and Audio Units are two different things.
Core Audio is the way Mac computers running OSX communicate with the software, like Logic (in layman's terms). Prior to OSX, there was ASIO, among others.
Audio Units are the format for the plug-ins used within Logic. Just like Cubase uses the VST format.
You can't use VST's in Logic directly, but you can use an VST wrapper, like the one FXpansion makes.
All that to say, most plug-ins are available in VST and Audio Unit formats, and it's just a matter of selecting which format you need, when you install them.
If you bought and downloaded a VST plug-in directly online, many times you can get the Audio Unit for free, just by supplying proof of purchase. Or some companies charge an small fee, but it's usually pretty nominal.

  • S10-3T purchasing questions

    Hi all,
I've been following the S10-3T news for a while and I can't wait to get my hands on it, however i have a few questions before doing so.
I have never purchased a netbook before, i understand that there are no CD drives. How does this complicate things in terms of say me needing to format the netbook? I know that I can download the windows 7 upgrades from the microsoft site. What about programs I already own with a CD?
and is it advisiable to first format the tablet, and then install the things I need?
    Thanks.

Hi and welcome, first to have an external USB opticaldrive (slimline-dvd-burner)...is not a bad idea...it helps you to do some things easier...to have a good backup in your hands in case of emergency, first Backup your system, before you think of format your computer, in addition a usb-harddrive to save your personal data from time to time......than you can install all .. your fav operating system and programs....

  • Thinking of buying 24inch Imac. Got a few purchasing questions.

Hi, I am thinking of getting the 24inch Imac. 3.06Ghz processor. 4 gigs of ram. 1tb HD. And the price is $3,017.
I was wondering if I go to my nearest Apple store on Tax Free weekend (or the apple online store). Will I get Tax off the Imac?
Also my mom is a homeschool teacher. Will she be able to get the Education discount at the Apple Store (not online one)?

You'll need a lot more than tax off your imac. The question you should be asking is..."should I buy one?". You should (try and) talk to someone at Apple before you spend that much money, and ask them why the Video/Display on the 24" Intel Core Duo is so unreliable and flaky. They don't seem to want to address the SERIOUS issues. You have no idea what I'm going through (conveniently for Apple , after warranty expiration) with my lemon. I have owned dozens of Macs, and this is by far, the most unreliable, flaky, crash-prone, frustrating piece of equipment I have ever purchased. I have to place a large fan about 12 inches from the computer to prevent it from overheating. If the ambient room temperature gets over 22-23 degrees Celcius, the crashes are far more frequent... sometimes about 30 minutes apart - if I'm lucky enough to be able to work that long. I can't count how many preference and database files have been corrupted by these sudden shutdowns. Often, it takes many attempts (or a long wait) before I can reboot. I can barely see what I'm writing now, because there's a grey line through most of the text. I've emailed Apple, but received no response - no surprise there. I send many crash reports a day too. They need to concentrate on developing a reliable, stable platform before they waste so much of their time and my money on pretty, shiny boxes. I'm disgusted. I posted (just a few) examples of what I see all day, every day, at: http://gallery.me.com/jjmcharg/100009
Good luck with your search for a computer.

  • IPad purchase questions.

Help please.....questions before purchasing iPad -- can I use it in the car as a GPS?  And, where can I view a list of magazines available for iPad?

Look at the tech specs on this page.
    iPad Tech Specs
To see what is available as far as magazines, you need to go to the newsstand store on the iPad.  So, if you're going in to an Apple Store, just check that out before you buy it.

  • Apple TV - Pre-purchase questions

    Hi,
I am planning to buy the Apple TV. But before I make the purchase I would like to clarify a few of questions...
    1. Can it stream music from my iphone, ipod touch and itunes - like Airport Express? or Do I need to purchase Airport Express separately. I know I can use my ipod as a remote.
    2. Can I attach an external HDD to it?
    3. Can I add personal videos to it? of they have to be purchased from iTunes?
    4. Can it read and play non-iTunes stuff?
    5. Does it needs a constant connection with PC/Mac or can it store content and play without a computer?
    6.
I know these questions might sound stupid, but staff in Apple's Indian stores are not very savvy to answer everything... and I don't want to make a wrong purchase.
