The default of the pref network.http.max-connections has been increased from 30 to 256 in Firefox 6+ versions.
Try to decrease the value of the pref network.http.max-connections from 256 to 30 as used in Firefox 3 versions.

Since you don’t allow emails any more – I suspect because of the numerous complaints with your service and the way you treat people that you don’t want documented, I am calling and I want this call recorded for future reference.
I have been a long time faithful customer of vzw and although the past year I have been late on payments many times and really couldn’t afford your exorbitant prices for services lots of other companies offer sometimes three times cheaper than what you charge, I have hung in there trying my best to meet my obligations.
This month has been no exception. You don’t know the background; the whole story of people’s lives. I know you could care less because all you care about is the profit-the money that comes in.
I was told when I agreed to pay my bill on the third per the recorded message that I had 14 days to pay…you cut me off anyway. The phones are not the tissue; your suspending my service means I cannot work. I may lose my job…how do you justify that? In any case? The least you could do would be to keep 4986 on and cut the phones off. But no. You refuse to compromise and meet the basic needs of your customer. What does that say about your company? I tried to call back on three separate occasions to tell you I couldn’t pay because of unexpected expenses but couldn’t get out of the automated system…sadly couldn’t get to a real person which also speaks volumes to me.
All this tells me this is a company I don’t wish to be affiliated with any more. As soon as I can, I will discontinue service with you…I know you could care less. I will honor the remaining portion of the contract but that’s it. You don’t deserve my business. I am a good, hardworking person who, at the sacrifice of myself and my needs, always pays her bills…albeit late at times. I realize others tell you stories and lies to justify themselves. That’s not me. If you knew what I had been through the last 7 yrs you would marvel that I am still on my feet…don’t judge too quickly. You could be wrong…and in my eyes you are by doing this to me.
God will see us through this extremely scary time of that I have no doubt. No thanks to your company and lack of understanding and mercy. I am doing the best I can. Sadly you are not.
See I have choices. MANY choices of providers for services you offer. I don’t have to be treated like this. I don’t have to succumb to your coldness and callousness. I intend to choose better (and cheaper). If your company doesn’t get the “people factor” back you will be sorry.

Problem here is you admit you cannot afford the service.
And you want to blame Verizon for losing a job because you have no cell phone.
If your job depends on that phone I would pay it on time every time if you need a job to pay your bill.
No other service is going to treat you any different. And if you cannot afford Verizon's monthly invoice how are you going to afford new devices, activation fees, possible security deposits on any other cellular carrier? You can't.
Also if you made an arraignment to pay and then decide you cannot do so, why should Verizon extend you service or credit, or why is it you want to use the service and data and not pay for it as agreed.
Get a prepay phone. Its evident the cost is too high for you to afford on post pay.
Good Luck

• Running Dual boot windows 8 and win 7 pro with xp mode installed!! I love it!!

It took over 2 days to figure out how to adjust the bios to get my win 7 pro DVD to boot and install dual boot on this GREAT MACHINE!!
Step 1: using diskmgmt.msc you have to shring the C partition. I shrunk it so I had 80GB remaining as unallocated space.
Step 2: You have to enter the machine Bios adn set the BIOS to Both and UEFI as first
Step 3: Connect your usb dvd
Step 4: Put your win 7 pro dvd in the usb dvd drive
Step 5: Reboot your machine and when it starts press F12 to get the boot menu and select the usb dvd drive then press enter
The machine restarts
Message on screen says press a key to boot from cd/dvd
Press space and it boots up the win 7 pro DVD
After files copy and load the setup screen asks to accept the agreement and where to install win 7
BE SURE TO SELECT THE 80GB location
Then follow thru the win 7 prompts to load it.
When the machine restarts you will see a dual boot screen with Windows 7 on top as first selection and Windows 8 below it as 2nd selection.
Make sure to hit enter with windows 7 selected
The win 7 installation completes.
You will see many items with drivers not installed dont fret.
You can load most of the drivers by highlighting the device in control panel/device manager and pick update driver then select BROWSE for DRIVER and be sure to put in drive D:\ which is now the windows 8 drive and hit search.
Many of the windows 8 drivers installed with no issue.
The Realtek driver was an exception .. goto to the lenovo site and pick the x100e tablet and download the LAN driver from there about (4MB). Copy it to flash drive and install it in win 7 from the .exe file. The driver for LAN will install sucessfully. The version of the driver is 7.46 something the 7.11 versions do not workl.
I have only 3 drivers that I could not find - 2 list as unknown and are related to ACPI or power management and 1 lists as USB controller but all the USB stuff works without it.
Be sure to either shutdown the system or sign out of win 8 when your done so you get the dual boot menu. If you shutdown while logged into win 8 the next time you start up it will go right to win 8 until you signout and restart.
Just to let you know an easy way to shutdown is go to the desktop and press ALT + FN + F4 and a shutdown menu comes up on the desktop.
Once win 7 pro is installed you can download the XP mode free from Microsoft and install it.
This is of course AFTER you have ACTIVATED WINDOWS 7 ONLINE with YOUR ACTIVATION KEY(you supply).
ENJOY! This is the BEST machine I ever had!

It's been many, many years since I don't do dual boot anymore. Don't find the reason to do it, either. Different kinds of virtualization should be enough. Anyway...

• What is the difference between Wine, Wineskin, Winery and Wine Bottler, and how do I get Wine to *ACTUALLY* work in Mountain Lion?

Ok, so this is my first post here and I am admittedly terrible at forums. Someone might say, "This was addressed in the ___________ thread by __________! Go read it!" --- that may be so but I've spent enough hours trying to google this problem into submission to no avail based on what is apparently working for others, so I would like a chance to get specific answers to specific questions that aren't from Mar 2011, etc.
So first of all, I'm confused by all the various Wine programs/apps/whatevers. I've seen Wine, Wineskin, Winery, Wine Bottler, and at this point I wouldn't be surprised if there are even more than that. What's the difference between all of these and how do they work with one another? What do I actually need to get windows programs working?
All of my google searches have led me to people giving out fish, but no one giving out fishing lessons. I'm not a pro at mac and windows and all that, but I'm a fairly bright individual who gets VERY frustrated, very quickly, when I don't understand the why and how of something I'm attempting.
I've also found "answers" where the person attempting to help starts off helpful enough, but degrades into the most archaic of techno-babble after about 5-6 sentences. On the other hand, I've watched tutorials on youtube where the poster decides to skip (apparently crucial) sections of the tutorial, and mutters such gems as: "... you might wanna have to run Wine first before you can do anything, cuz I think it has to configure it and set up a bunch of stuff"
O.o
A happy medium between techno-babble and the most basic of explanations would be ideal for me, and I'd imagine for others as well.
Here is a summarized history of my relationship with Wine:
Diablo II - I downloaded this awesome thing which ended up being... uh... I guess Diablo II in a Wineskin "wrapper". I'm not sure, all I know is that it's a D2 icon, and if I go to 'show package contents', it's got C drive, Program Files, et cetera inside of it. I double click it, it launches D2, and it works like a dream. <3
'Vanilla Install' - That's what I heard someone call it. It was the command/terminal style install using xquartz and xcode found at http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/. I followed every instruction to the letter, and got all the way to '$ sudo port install wine', at which point it started going smoothly, free from the possible error he described regarding the installation of xcode, and then just failed after I left the room to use the restroom and came back. Please don't ask me to repeat what the error was, because honestly, after reading more things on the interwebs, I'm confused as to why it's even necessary to go through all of that, so I'd rather not try that route again anyways, rendering the error message quite possibly irrelevant.
Wine + Wine Bottler - So I decided to try to seek out an easier method, as I know that one must exist that doesn't involve command lines. I found a video tutorial at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m0BBkISOcEA, and oh man would it be great if that method had actually worked. Again, I followed all instructions provided to procure my free fish, and at the point in the video where he declares that "xquarts or x11 will open" - it doesn't open. Nothing opens. I was trying to install Star Sonata, btw.
So here I am, thoroughly worn out, frustrated at all the random places Wine is installed on my mac now, and just want someone to explain it all, from top down, without getting toooooooo technical on me. I know that might be asking a lot...

## I know that the poster has already found a solution, but the following is a possible answer for others that have similar issues.
For Winebottler, just go to their website and download it. Run the program. Choose .wine as your prefix (best choice) or whatever suits you best. You'll need a functional X11. If you can't use the one that comes with your mac, download the latest one from the website.
If your issue is one with Winebottler's Wine not running correctly due to X11, then you have a pretty ugly problem, although a simple upgrade is the best solution (Upgrade XQuartz.app).
http://www.davidbaumgold.com/tutorials/wine-mac/#part-1
The above website is the easiest way to get REAL wine on your computer. First of all, Wineskin WInery, etc. are NOT WINE. They are 3rd party apps that may use Wine or may have originally part of Wine, but they are no longer up to date with Wine. WineBottler is currently up to date with the stable releases of Wine (but not the maintenence releases).
For the website tutorial and to run Wine on your mac without using a thrid party app, you will need to know a few things.
First, you will need to know basic control of the command line. That means, sudo (you must know the administrator password to your computer), and the forms of cd (change directory).
Second, you will need Xcode. Download 4.2 (stable) or whatever other versions you want, but beware: It is over 1 GB, and you will need time for it to work.
Third, you will need to get MacPorts and configure it. The tutorial should have this data.
When you download wine (use sudo port install wine-devel for the latest development release of wine), it will first download a lot of dependencies. This will take a while. After that, it will download wine itself.
After obtaining wine, to run a program, open the terminal.app window.
cd desktop/XYZ/ZYZ\ WRQ
The above will first enter the desktop, then folder XYZ, then folder ZYZ WRQ. From here,
wine th11e.exe
Or whatever executable you are trying to open. (Using Subterranean Animism as my example).
It should, in theory, run the program. Watch the terminal for errors. If there is an X11 problem, then it's not wine acting up. If the app crashes or has other issues, check the Wine Application Database to see if your app is compatible with wine.
If you have any further questions or other things, feel free to reply; I may or may not get back to you, but there's a good chance that someone will come in eventually. Otherwise, the Wine Wiki should have some information.

• Buyer Beware - Verizon is a company that is only out to get your cash and leave you with trash.

Verizon is a company that is only out to get your cash and leave you with trash. Verizon has mastered deception. Do not get strung along like I did by calling in and letting them try to fix anything-they are there to make sure you get past your 14 day return period so you are locked into a new 2 year contract and can’t take back any of the accessories you bought for your product. If your product does not work out of the box, RETURN IT IMMEDIATELY, do not call in for tech support and take back any accessories you bought for the product as it also has the 14 day policy too. First off let me say that as far as the PHONE SERVICE, it has been great…however…here is what I have experienced with the 3G Droid Bionic and Verizon. I decided to get the Droid Bionic 4G since they are supposed to have 4G service in my area. It’s either their service or the product that is not 100% 4G like my 3G HTC Imagio is 100% 3G, the so called "4G" Bionic flips in and out. I can’t count how many hours I’ve been on the phone with techs at Verizon and Moto but each time, they all had something different to say, but nothing ever worked and if it did, it didn’t work for long before it went back to the same flip flop. There were several other issues as well but too many to list, but one is that when I was tethered and would get a notification it disconnected from the internet...NOT SUPPOSE TO HAPPEN. I had a specific need for the 4G and since it doesn’t work, I don’t NEED it. The biggest lie I bought into is that MOTO is/was supposed to release a software update that is supposed to fix the flip flop 3G to 4G. I talked to a tech tonight at Verizon that was honest enough to tell me that if there was one that was going to be released (within my 14 day period) that they would have been notified of that. Well guess what, he doesn’t have any notices. But every person I talked to at Verizon said there was going to be an update, is it another one of those…no one knows their butt from a hole in the grown or was he telling the truth. Well it makes sense now that when I was talking with the second level tech at MOTO he didn’t know what the heck I was talking about. There’s your proof that the people you call and talk to at Verizon are devious, deceptive jerks and are only out to make money off us and could really care less that you just spent a bundle of money on a piece of cow dung and that their only goal is to keep you tied into the 2 year contract. After talking with the last tech at Verizon that told me there was no notification of a software update coming from MOTO or at least not in the next two weeks, I decided to take back all my accessories to the Verizon store in my area and return the Bionic tomorrow. But guess what, unlike the rest of America where the return policies are 30 days, Verizon also changed the return policies on the accessories too. So I’m stuck with over $100 of “STUFF” that cannot be used on any other phone. My bad, I didn’t have my reading glasses, look 12 inches down the long small print page to see that it said 14 days, when I bought the “STUFF” and I didn’t know that Verizon’s changes applied to the accessories in there stores too. Why is this and issue because Verizon did have me buy another Bionic phone under a new 14 day policy but because I didn’t realize that same policy applied to the hardware at their local stores, I’m stuck with the “STUFF”. Guess what Verizon; you devious, deceptive jerks, what goes around comes around. You are going to get to know me real well in the coming days, weeks, months and years; I’m going to picket until the freakin cows come home and hopefully get on the local news channels too. I’m going to hopefully create a nationwide movement that will either ruin your company or force you to restore the 30 day policy and I don’t care if you try to sue me that will be even better as it will draw even more attention. Money is hard to come by these days and I’ll not let you screw me over like this and get away with it. Because you are treating your customers like cow dung, I WILL NEVER extend my contract again; when this contact ends I’m switching to another cell provider. I’ve been with you since 2004 but tomorrow I’m switching my family’s phones over as soon as possible since they are not under any contract; this I hope will catch on and others will do the same. We can support the other companies and help them grow so that they can also provide better cell service and then we the people will have a choice, NOT TO GET SCREWED. Verizon, you are going to be the reason that a lot of time is going to be wasted in your stores because of processing numerous returns and a lot of Fed Ex charges on you for people retuning your trash items…unless you want to get it right the first time and or BECOME AMERICAN again and restore the 30 day policy. Verizon’s 4G network and or MOTO products still have so many bugs in them that you might as well keep your 3G and wait for another year or so until they fix everything and stop their devious, deceptive tricks, restore the 30 day policy and start selling products that work out of the box. Verizon, you wouldn’t be the first large company that is going to fall if you keep doing this kind of business. See yea on the news. One comment for Moto: Do you really want to associate yourself with a company that treats their customers like this? I guess Birds of a feather flock together…and get shot together. Christina,
Since you are in a mixed environment, you should avoid using the operating

the ftexec command which allows you to override the environment/registry
variable FORTE_NS_ADDRESS.
Example: ftexec.exe -fns computername:portnumber
Hope this helps in your situation.

Hello Christina,
try the task.part.OperatingSystem.SetEnv() - method befor you make the
start with RunCommand. in SetEnv you set FORTE_NS_ADRESS to server2:6000.
Because the RunCommand executes a new shell, the calling Apllication A
works with it's old adress.
Hope it helps.

Dear forte-users,
I have the following problem.
I have an application A that uses a certain environment (say Aenv, with
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=server1:5000). This application executes at a certain time
a RunCommand and calls a "ftexec" which runs another Forte' application
(B). Application B belongs to a different environment (say Benv, with
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=server2:6000).
When I call application B from application A, application B reads the same
FORTE_NS_ADDRESS which was set before start executing application A (that
is, application B uses FORTE_NS_ADDRESS=server1:5000, which is incorrect).
I can have mixed platform UNIX and Windows 95, so FORTE_NS_ADDRESS can be
an environment variable or a line in forte.ini.
Can you think of a workaround to this problem ?
TIA

• Mac Pro -- Installing XP and Win 7 on a SEPARATE Internal Drive

I would like to install Windows XP SP2 and Windows 7 onto the second Internal Drive in my Mac Pro. I am planning to install Win XP on the first partition and Win 7 onto the second Partition of Drive 2.
Will this work?
Drive 1 - GUID partition Scheme -- 1 partition -- Snow Leopard
Drive 2 - MBR Partition Scheme -- 2 partitions -- WinXP -- Windows 7
Drive 3 - MBR Partition Scheme -- 3 partitions -- Linux
Drive 4 - MBR Partition Scheme -- 1 partition -- NTFS Shared Data
Can I use MBR or do I need to use GUID Partition Scheme on my second drive holding Win XP and Win 7?
P.S. I do not plan to use Bootcamp assistant to install WIndows XP and Win 7. I only will be using the Mac OS X Install Disk to install the Bootcamp Drivers.
And What does this mean in the Bootcamp Guide:
"Note: If your computer has more than one internal disk and you want to install
Boot Camp on a disk that isn’t in the first hard drive bay, remove the drives in the lower numbered bays. You can reinstall the drives after you install Boot Camp."
What does Apple mean by lower number bays? Drive 1 or Drives 3 and 4?
And why do I need to remove drives?
Rob

I thought it might be possible, and while you must use MBR, and while Windows 7 can install on its own without BCA, the same is not true of XP. People have tried, and the conclusion was a no go.
Don't know what Linux requires.
GPT is fine for data drives though, and is required when you get into drives of 2TB and larger.
As long as you format the drive partition table as MBR you are fine.
The only time when you used GPT you have to also use BCA to add the MBR and have a hybrid partition. GPT actually includes an "MBR holder" to prevent XP and others from wrecking havoc on GPT volumes that they don't support.
Never used XP, and for one purpose alone I just used XP Mode instead.
Apple tech notes are full of misinformation and support for Windows on their own Macs is sadly missing.
BUT: remove any and all drives that are GPT or have OS X during the install of Windows (both XP and 7). Otherwise it won't install. Then put them back. And if you want to play safe, then use the drive bay #1 at the front of the Mac for Windows, yes.

• Is fox 35 and win. 8.1 and theAMD A8 compatable ?

Have loaded and uninstalled fox 35 several times----no error warnings---set fox for default-----but the result is a Franken browser part Explorer 11 and part Fox 35 and not usable . On the 1st uninstall Explorer 11 vanished but it's still there---when I reload Fox it's the same Franken browser and I found Exp. 11 when I tried ''new internet connection'' it seems 11 is already running but not showing any longer on desktop or in programs but it is intact and not a franken browser. Is there conflict with using Fox 35 and Win. 8.1 and the AMD A8 ??

• Adobe products under OS X and Win XP

Can anyone give me a comparison of the performance of Photoshop, etc. when running them under OS X and Win XP (boot camp of course on the same machine).
I'm assuming CS2. Just raw performance...I will have to factor in the time I would save using the awesomely productive OS X and clunky old XP.
Thanks!

sonicsoul,
Up to now there's a HUGE difference of speed and performance with Photoshop CS2 between XP and OSX. The thing that makes Phosothop CS2 slower on MacOS X (Intel CD) is that the app is created for PowerPC, so running Photoshop CS2 (or any other app that's not yet Universal) with Rosetta, will make the app work HALF speed as on a PowerPC one. On windowsXP it works reaaaaaaally fast. I'm gonna use it till Adobe launches a Universal version. And I suggest that you do the same.
Hope that answers your question.

• Network Printer connection between W2000 and Win 7 machine?

I have a HP 990CXI on a Win 2000 machine and I am trying to network connect to this printer from a win 7 machine but it cannot find a driver. The HP site says that Win 7 should have an in-OS driver. It seems that one is pointing the finger to the other!?

Hi steve_podleski,
Your Deskjet 990c does have a built in driver in Windows 7. The main challenge is getting Windows 2000 and Win7 to share resources. I have steps written for Windows XP and Win7 but I don't know if they would work for Windows 2000.
Here is an excerpt from the document:
Step three: Setup a share account on each computer in the network
Create a common share account on each of the computers, including the computer that is sharing the printer to the rest of the network. This share account must have the same name and password on each computer.
If you decide to use an existing account that appears on each computer all ready, this existing account must be password protected. If you do not want to password protect your default login, create a new share login as described in the following steps.
Windows XP
1. Click Start
2. Click Control Panel
3. Click User Accounts
4. Click Create a new account.
5. Enter the same user account name created as the share account on the Windows 7 computer.
6. Click Next.
7. Under “Pick an account type”, select ‘Computer Administrator’.
Note: In Windows XP you must select Computer Administrator in order setup a printer.
8. After you new account is created, select it under ‘pick an account to change’.
9. Click Create a password
10. Enter the same password used when creating the share account on the Windows 7 computer, following the directions on the screen.
11. Click Create Password button.
12. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
13. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.
Windows 7
1. Click Start
2. Click Control Panel
3. In the upper right corner ensure that View by has Large icons or Small icons selected.
4. Click User Accounts
5. Click Manage another account
6. Click Create a new account
7. Select Standard User
Note: The account created should be created with the lowest security setting necessary. Creating the share account as an administrator is discouraged.
8. Enter a new user account name. Use a name that is easy to remember as the account used for sharing resources across your network. For example: ‘ShareAccount’
9. After your new account is created, select it under “Choose the account you would like to change”.
10. Click Create a Password
11. Enter a new password, following the directions on the screen.
12. Click Create Password button.
13. Close any remaining opened windows, making a note of the new account name and password as you will need to create identical accounts and passwords on the other computers on your network.
14. Log off your current user account and log into the new share account to activate it.
15. Once the computer is ready after logging into the share account, you can log off the share account and back into your regular user account.

• HT1338 I bought a new Mac Mini and tried to pair my keyboard with the Mac Mini. They will not pair via Bluetooth. What is wrong?

I have recently bought a Mac Mini and tried to pair the new apple wireless keyboard with the Mac but after trying 6 times no luck. What can I do about this?

try this method:
You need at least a USB mouse. If you don't get any option to pair a keyboard, click through the setup until you get to the "Create Your Computer Account" screen, right click in any of the text fields and select Substitutions --> Show Substitutions. From there click on text preferences. The preferences pane will popup and from there you can just click the back button (next to show all) to get to the full preferences menu. Next click on keyboard, then select setup bluetooth keyboard and you're golden.

• My MacBook Pro keyboard not working correctly after Win7 bootcamp installation. In OSx boot it keep Win keyboard. How can I have Mac keyboard in OS boot and Win keyboard in Win boot?

My MacBook Pro keyboard not working correctly after Win7 bootcamp installation.
Installation went well but when I boot either with OSx or Win it always keeps Windows keyboard.
How can I have Mac keyboard in OS boot and Win keyboard in Win boot?

Hi - I have the exact same model as your MacBook and had a few questions as mine is acting up. I upgraded the ram to 8gb (2x 4GB ram) and ever since then my computer has not been running as smoothly and the start up time is horrendous. Have you encountered this problem? And if so how did you fix? What would you advise me do?
I was thinking of reverting back to the original factory 4GB then rebooting the entire computer. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!
