I tried numerous methods, searched on forums, still can't get this problem sorted out...
Long story short, I reformatted my computer (windows), and used a new user name (e.g. from John Doe -> John D), and it screws most of my musics with exclamation marks next to them.
My itunes Media files are fine, they are now placed in E:\Musics.
Question:
There are still thousands of musics that the system think it is at "file://localhost/C:/Users/John Doe/Music/........". Is there a way to massively change all these paths to "E:/Music"...
That's all I need but I can't get it fixed. Tried TT2's FindTrack script but it doesn't work (can't find matched musics).
Can anyone help me to solve this problem...

I figured it is not your script's problem (of course ). After carefully checking, I recognized most of the musics that didn't get the correct match are the ones that I deleted long ago (but didn't delete on iTunes). So of course your script couldn't find a match.

My fix is quite easy afterall. I didn't realize Apply added new features that would fixes this issue. Basically, after 1 or 2 attempts to manually locate your exclamation-marked musics, a window will pop up asking if you want iTunes to find other musics in similar paths. I clicked yes and it fixes hundreds of musics, did that several times with the rest and within 10 minutes I got thousands of tracks back to normal

Ok, i have a similar question. I just got a new pc; my music etc was stored on an external HD, but now I can put it all on my pc. After a fresh install of itunes, I tried dragging and dropping the itunes music folder from my hard drive into itunes; after it was all done transferring, it still only transfered a third from my itunes folder from the hard drive to the itunes folder on the pc. any suggestions?

You can't drag songs (or other content) from a device back to a computer's iTunes. For music purchased from iTunes you can do File > Devices > Transfer Purchases to copy them back. For music from CDs or bought from other sites you will need to use a third-party program on your computer to copy them back (after you've copied them back you can then add them into your iTunes library via File > Add To Library) - there are some listed half-way down the document that I linked to : https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-3991

I have a mac book pro. Since i updated to OS 10.8, I have experienced the following:
many of the programs don't respond.
Not able to transfer file (eg pdf file og movie (VLC).
The tech tool diagnostic software (as part of apple care protection plan) stops in the middle of scanning.First, know that if you have any old PPC-only applications they will no longer work. You should uninstall them completely. Secondly, applications that don't work may require upgrades for compatibility with Mountain Lion. Thirdly, you may have a dysfunctional upgrade for which you should try this:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless. -

I have a fifth gen ipod classic. I switched computers and was not able to transfer the songs and pictures over. When I connect my ipod to the computer it wants to sync with it which would delete all my songs and music. Is there a way around this?
