Trigger pdf generating when it's needed.

Hi all!
I have my WD4A application. It has some fields that user must fill. Then he push the button and printable pdf form must be generated. I created a context in WD and assigned it to pdf form's context. I can't figure out how I can start form processing from button event. I know that I can do it manually with ABAP using function modules, pass parameters to pdf forms, get binary presentation of the form, etc. But I want WD4A do it for me. The only question is how to trigger pdf generating (through InteractiveForm UI element) when I want.

As Frank suggests, you'll need to use the generated FM of the form to build it. The Form UI element does this for you - but only if it's visible.
[from SAP HELP|http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw70ehp2/Helpdata/EN/ed/29093b519e4f0db9be6063526537f5/frameset.htm]
>Note that complex UI elements can execute actions only if they are visible.
>In Web Dynpros, user entries or information can be transferred to an active component only using the context and action handler of a view. The corresponding UI element must be available in this view and the view must exist, that is, it must be visible in terms of the runtime. For example, the pixel size is already 1x1.
Alternatively you could set it to be 1 pixel by 1 pixel as per the suggestion in the help....
If you want to allow the user to decide where to save the file (not true background processing) then use the FileDownload UI element.

  • Strange red line created when generating pdf from illustraot , why? need help to remove this

    I have created file in illustrator (CS2 and CS5 no matter which one), then saved it as pdf file.
    when I open the pdfs, there is a red line around the slides and I would like to remove it. It's annoying when viewing the slides.
    How do I do this?

    Yes, I would try to create a new master document and import the separate files. Even if you have saved all files to CS5.5 spec, there might still be some lingering meta data from the previous version and a fresh import might at least reveal such conflicts or ideally provide a clean slate by dismissing this outdated legacy stuff on import. If you are happy with CS5.5 and everything works, you can get rid of CS3, but I recommend to keep it around, even if you don't use it actively (maening löeave it installed, only deactivate it). Especially the CS3 installer is a fragile creature and a uninstall gone wrong might cause you more trouble than just letting it catch dust on your harddrive. See this article and the other ones related to it on my site for some considerations.

  • How many Licenses of Acrobat Professional do I need for Adobe LC PDF Generator

    Hi,
    At our customer site we have purchased 6 licenses of Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator and have recieved a license file with the keys for Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator and Adobe Acrobat Professional. We bought the license from a reseller of the product. We understand that the Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator is a server based software and needs 1 license per CPU. Each of our server (Dev, Val & Prod) have 2 CPU's so we have sufficient licenses (6). We are under the impression that this would suffice. How ever we are not sure on how many licenses we need for Acrobat Professional.
    Here is a brief description of the way we would use Adobe LiveCycle PDF Generator. We are deploying a PLM system and one of the requirement is to render Word documents to PDF so we are using PDF Generator for this capability. On our Adobe servers we will install Microsoft Word, Acrobat Professional V9 Extended and the Adobe Livecycle PDF Generator. We will have around 150 users for the PLM system being deployed. The PLM system is a Web based system which means the PLM application server will be running on a Solaris server in our case. As part of the workflows in the PLM system, at the end of the workflow process, the PLM server would trigger a request to the Adobe server to convert the word document to PDF. The Adobe server processess the request and returns the PDF file that gets generated.
    Based on the above usage of the system how many licenses of Acrobat Professional do we need? We will be installing Acrobat only on the server where we install the Livecycle PDF Generator. We had a call with our purchasing person today and she cautioned us that for Adobe Acrobat Professional we might need 1 license per user of the PLM system. She has asked us to check this with the Vendor of the product. Somehow I don't think it makes sense to purchase so many Acrobat Professional licenses even though we install only once.
    So can someone tell me How does the licensing for Adobe Livecycle PDF Generator work? How many Acrobat Professional licenses we actually need? Is it based on the number of users in the system that is triggering the request? Appreciate your response on this.
    Regards,
    Ragha

    You really should talk to your Adobe Sales Rep about this.  There are all kinds of special deals, licenses and such for customers using LiveCycle.  (For instance the license for PDFG may include Acrobat licenses for certain uses).

  • Need info on adobe pdf generator

    Hi,
    We are evaluvating a tool to convert word document to pdf for our prestegious client.
    Below are requirements,
    Requirement 1:
    Source- MS Word document
    Target- PDF
    1) Conversion of MS Word document to PDF through online. Here Word document content don't follow any specific layout disagn.
    User wants pdf format should be as same as Word document including font, file layout, header, footer.
    2) Target Pdf should dynamically generate content while reading  word document. i.e it has to replace <placeholders> with the data read from DB.
    3) Target Pdf should also merge some other pdf documents during conversion
    Requirement 2:
    Source- PDF
    Target- PDF
    1) User will provide PDF which has user data aswell as <placeholders>. We need to replace the <placeholders> with the data read from DB & generate PDF.
    Please let us know which adobe tool would suite better for above said requirements.
    Note: From my initial analysis  I found 'LiveCycle PDF Generator ES ' and 'LiveCycle Output ES2' are suitable to 'Requirement 1'. Please let me know your comments on this.
    Thanks,

    I've not seen a response from others, so I'll chime in.  If the answers are not in sufficient detail, I can find someone else to go to the next level.
    Requirement 1: The key thing to keep in mind is that PDF Generator is a server-based framework around word, at least for the word to PDF part of its functionality.
    1-1) Conversion of Word to PDF...  PDF Generator does this well.  Note that it will require the installation of MS Office or will use Open Office. Given your fidelity requirement, you probably want to use Office.
    1-2) The integration of dynamic data is less clear.  PDFG does not support this directly, as we use MS Office. I'm not a Word expert, but if you can pull of the dynamic content access and have the appropriate access paths available from Office as it is deployed on the server.
    31-3) Both Output and PDF Generator use a common service called Assembler for the merge. This should be an easy usecase.
    Requirement 2: Generation of PDF from a template.
    The best product for you is LiveCycle Output. It will take a template from LiveCycle designer, either static of dynamic, and create PDF at moderate volumes. I'd suggest that you look at Designer, including its template import facilities, and then consider how you can get the data for your placeholders into XML format. Output is then quite easy to do the data merge, formatting, and PDF generation.

  • Need info on livecycle pdf generator

       My requirment is:
                              Convert different image file and word document file (.doc,.docx) to pdf and merge to a single pdf and display it to the client over the net.
          I think I can use Livecycle Pdf generator to fulfill my requirment.
      My question is:
                           1 can  use pdf generator standalone i mean with out other services,?
                           2 I will integrate This with java,so where can I find referance material?Is there any lib file?
                           3 amd most important question is what is the price of livecycle pdf generator?
                           Waiting for a response...

                                                                                                                                                  Barun barik

    1 - Yes, sort of.   The LiveCycle products require the LiveCycle foundation classes to run, but you don't need to install the other modules (Forms, ReaderExtensions, etc).  With Generator you will get some "common" modules, such as Assembler.  To merge two documents in the manner you mentioned, you will use Assembler.
    2 - Yes.  LiveCycle modules run on a J2EE platform and have a full Java API.  The client jar files come with the product.  Java Documentation can be found online at:http://help.adobe.com/en_US/livecycle/9.0/programLC/javadoc/index.html
    Samples can be found at: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/livecycle/samples.html
    3 - Price and licensing are too broad a topic to discuss in the forums.  It will depend on the request volume (which effects the # CPUs), corporate discounts, existing Adobe products, etc.  Your Adobe Sales Representative is best qualified to give you a quote based on your needs.

    More information about this game:
    The game should generate a random obstacle course for the player. The first column of the grid, however, should consist of all empty pieces, with the exception of the upper left-hand corner, which is the grid location where the player initially resides.
    Enter a loop in which the following things happen (not necessarily in this order):
    Print the current board configuration. Additionally, a key should be printed describing what each piece is.
    Get an action from the user. The player can move up, down, left, or right. Use the following controls: up = 'i', down = 'm', left = 'j', right = 'k'. The player can move at most one block at a time. Of course, if the player tries to move into a spot occupied by an immovable block, the player will not move.
    Inform the player whether they have won, or if they have lost (a player loses if they step on a bomb piece).
    If the player types 'q', the game should terminate.

  • Which apps does pdf generator need installing

    Hi
    The online documentation says that PDF Generator supports a large number of formats, including doc, dwg, vsd (visio) and photoshop psd.
    It doesnt mention Illustrator (ai).
    In trying these out on our dev server, i found that only doc, ai and dwg worked.
    The "preparing to install" documentation says that msoffice and acrobat must be installed on the server.
    Microsoft office is installed, but not Visio, so I guess that explains why visio files wont convert.
    I havent installed photoshop or illustrator either.
    I havent (knowingly) installed anything that supports dwg, but that works fine.
    I can't find a definitive list in the documentation which says explicitly which applications are required?
    Is there such a list published or available somewhere?  I need to be able to tell my customers which additional apps they will need.
    thanks in advance
    -r

    In the case of Linux you should be okay (LC can use OpenOffice for the transformations that are normally done with MS Office).
    However, with Unix installations there is more than just the Acrobat installation to be concerned with. For the most part, LiveCycle uses the native application (Word, PowerPoint, etc) for the conversion.

  • How to show custom header in pdf generated from report

    Hi,
    I  have created a report that is used to display Leave record of employees in an organization. After which it creates a pdf file and send it to respective HOD.
    In this case I am trimming generated output and sendinf only required fields to the pdf.
    When pdf is getting generated it shows program name as Title of that report.
    I want to change this header to my own header along with some variable but not sure how I can do so.
    I have also tried TOP-OF_PAGE but problem in this case is that I am still getting program name along with it.
    To generate pdf I have used function :
      call function 'CONVERT_ABAPSPOOLJOB_2_PDF'
        exporting
          src_spoolid   = spoolid
          no_dialog     = ' '
        importing
          pdf_bytecount = l_no_of_bytes
          pdf_spoolid   = l_pdf_spoolid
          btc_jobname   = l_jobname
          btc_jobcount  = l_jobcount
        tables
          pdf           = l_pdfdata.
    Then I had converted this pdf to Binary
    call function 'QCE1_CONVERT'
        tables
          t_source_tab         = l_pdfdata
          t_target_tab         = lit_record
        exceptions
          convert_not_possible = 1
          others               = 2.
    Then I had created subject matter and used FM : SO_NEW_DOCUMENT_ATT_SEND_API1: to send mail to respective HODs.
    I tried dubbing it but couldn't get any variable which is holding program name.
    Sorry for putting in wrong forum.

  • AcroPro9, snow leopard, "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported"

    Hi,
    I have AcroPro9.1.3 (and 8 and 7 and Dreamweaver CS3, and probably other stuff too) on Snow Leopard (10.6.1).
    I've read about de-installing the Acrobat printer and using "save as Adobe PDF" from the PDF button on the print menu.  However, when I try this, I'm told "Saving a PDF file when printing is not supported".  Note that this is AcroPro9, not AcroReader.  I get the same message when I try any of the other options under the PDF menu on the printer menu in Acrobat.  In other applications, tho, (eg powerpoint), the PDF button works fine.
    Before the upgrade, the PDF button on the print menu didn't work either (same message), so I used the Adobe printer, but now I can't.  I had always assumed that AcroPro was stopping me from using Apple's PDF generator in favour of the Adobe one.  But maybe some of my settings are wrong.
    I now cannot print to PDF from Acrobat.  Help.  There are 120 fourth year software engineering students who will appreciate any help I get, as I can then post my recent lecture notes for them.
    (What I really want to do is to take my powerpoint slides and print 4-up versions directly.  But the PPT idea of 4up wastes a lot of space, so I generate 1up PDF, and the 4up PDF from that using Acrobat.  At least, I used to.  It was so much easier in the old days with Latex and psnup ...)
    -- Mike G.

    My current solution is to print from Preview instead (which will let me use the Adobe print facility, unlike Acrobat itself).
    In fact, I pretty much have no need for Acrobat at the moment.
    Adobe and Apple between them seem to have some real problems with Snow Leopard.  I can't get Dreamweaver to run anymore without immediately crashing (yes I looked through the help forums, deleted settings, etc etc).  So I'm now looking for a replacement tool for Dreamweaver and will likely use that from now on.
    Adobe is not looking very good to me at the moment.  YMMV.

  • How to crop pages using Adobe LiveCycle ES2 PDF Generator and Acrobat 9.2 Pro Extended

    Hi all,
    I'm evaluating the possibilities of Adobe LiveCycle ES2.0 PDF Generator in order to convert on the fly (programmatically) MS Office Documents and Visio drawings into PDF files.
    I'm able to trigger this process using the Webservices API (from within C#). However when generating the PDF files in this way, each and every PDF file has a lot of white margins around it as it is generated as an 8x11 inch page.
    I have been looking in ways to crop these white margins from around the information, so that the PDF content is only showing the actual content (in order to be used as an image).
    I found a way of doing this manually by opening the generated PDF file of LiveCycle in Acrobat 9.2 Pro Extended and using the Document > Crop Pages... option.
    So my question is: Can this be done programmatically using Adobe LiveCycle ES (and/or API functions of the Acrobat tool).
    The envisioned solution would run on a server (without interaction/monitoring requirements by a human).
    Any input about this is highly appreciated.

  • Very slow PDF generation when conditional text is hidden in FM 9.0

    I am working on 96-page chapter of a larger book. A 7-page section of the chapter needs to be hidden until the next release, so I hid it with conditional text. After doing this, the "Save as PDF" printing process goes from taking 6-7 seconds to taking several minutes. If I unhide the conditional text in the same session, printing is very quick again.
    I have no problem generating very PDF files with the PDF printer in other applications (Word, PowerPoint). The issue is specific to FrameMaker and the use of conditional text. What might be causing this?
    I am using FrameMaker 9.0p255 and Distiller 9.0.
    - Chris

    Hi Jeff,
    These were good suggestions to try. Saving the document first has no effect on PDF generation.
    However, I did find that printing to the Adobe PDF printer remains fast when the conditional text is hidden. That's quite an interesting finding! I did also notice that these two methods of PDF generation aren't identical:
    "Save as PDF" opens an Adobe Distiller window, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer opens a different "Creating Adobe PDF" progress box (looks like it's from the printer driver itself).
    "Save as PDF" generates a 1188k PDF file, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer generates a 1049k PDF file.
    "Save as PDF" defaults to placing the PDF in FrameMaker's working directory, while printing to the Adobe PDF printer defaults to saving to the last place to saved a printed PDF file (awkward when working with multiple directories, as I often do).
    When I do a "Save as PDF", FrameMaker does still spool to the PDF printer. It is this spooling that takes a long time. Once spooling is complete, then the Distiller window opens and the PDF is created very quickly.
    I would still like to get "Save as PDF" working since it knows where to place the PDF file. No solution to the runtime yet, but at least there is progress...

  • Disappearing footers in PDF generated from FrameMaker 9

    Myself and three other writers are having a problem with disappearing footers in FrameMaker.  Here’s the problem:  In FrameMaker, the footers display correctly.  When we convert a book to PDF, many of the footers disappear.  What we find is that a footer (or part of the footer) will appear on the first page of the chapter, but then the footers disappear in rest of the chapter.
    Here is some more info:
    ·         We are using Frame 9.  My version is 9.0p250.  I'm also using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended, Version 9.3.2 and Adobe Distiller: Professional Version 8.1.3.
    ·         We have been able to duplicate this problem using multiple guides.
    ·         Oddly, footers DO appear correctly when I print just one chapter.
    ·         I’ve tried rebooting my machine and then loaded only FrameMaker (in case of memory issues).
    ·         I optimized the book file and associated chapters.
    ·         I experimented with different Distiller settings.
    Anyone else having this problem?

    It's probably a symptom of needing the MS Hotfix that corrected a problem with text disappearing from PDFs generated from several Windows apps (not just FM).

  • Problems converting any form of document in PDF Generator

    Hello,
    Could anybody help. I have successfully installed the PDF Generator 7.0.2 on an Windows server 2003 Standard edition. When I put documents into the In folder, I understand, it is supposed to convert the document to another format in the out folder. It is not working at all. I get the following error file:
    Failed to process job jobs.txt
    Error Code: 11,020
    Reason: The source file you submitted is not supported by this version of PDF Generator.
    The in and out folder is set up on the client machine.
    Please, help. Did I miss something out?
    Thanks
    Yvonne

    Hello everyone,
    I had the same problem but I resolved it.
    What you need to do is just copy the sample pdf generator (convertallfilestopdf) in the LiveCycle workbench.
    Just change 1 thing in the sample: in the SetFileName properties, you can see their is just 1 record in the mappings (location ...)
    Just delete this record!
    Second thing: create a watched folder under your pfd generator service.
    http://localhost:8080/adminui/, log on with username: administrator and password: password.
    Navigate to your new service (e.g. VDAB PDF Creations). Click on your pdf generator service and you can see 3 records. Choose for Watched Folder and click on "Add". Leave everyting as the standard except the operation name. Choose for "invoke". Now you can see there are several variables. Only 1 is required. The inputdocument.
    InputDocument: variable => *.*
    OutputPDF document: %F.pdf
    Now you can simply drop most of the file extensions (.doc, .jpg, .xls, ...) in the input folder and the service generate a PDF document.

  • Heavy performance issues using Adobe Interactive Form PDFs generated by SAP BPM

    Dear experts,
    we use Adobe Interactive Form PDFs (generated with LiveCycle Designer) as Human Tasks within SAP BPM processes. The PDFs are generated and transmitted correctly, but when they are opened at the receivers PC, Windows freezes for 2-3 minutes, then the PDF opens and can be filled out and sent back. The next PDFs can be opened much faster, but when the PC is restarted, we get the same problem again. We use Adobe Reader XI (11.0.2) on our clients; is their any know performance issue?
    Please note, that we have this problem with EVERY Adobe Interactive Form PDF... I created a simple PDF containing just a field and the client PC still freezes. So it can't be in the form or the scripting. Normal static PDFs can be opend without any problems.
    Best regards,
    David

    They haven't really announced it, because there is no product to announce. Rather the opposite.
    There are no conversion tools, so far as I know.
    XFA forms are a non-starter if you want portability.
    AcroForms are a nightmare in themselves, because the functionality is limited in Adobe Reader and varies between absent and weird in other products. No idea about Blackberry support.
    You will not find a simple recommendation. Rather, you need to use Acroforms and carefully test everything (EVERYTHING: no assumptions) on every platform you intend to support.
    Yes, rather unsatisfactory, but until Adobe realise that the future is platform equivalence or irrelevance, this is where we are.
