Trouble browsing

For some reason, I can't seem to get on half the websites I goto when I'm at work.  But when I take my computer home, it works without any trouble at all.
I have tried changing from safari, to firefox and have tried using both hard wire and wifi.  The funny thing is, the other computers at work (which are windows based) goto the same sites without any trouble.  Same internet connection.  There has to be a setting somewhere which isn't configured properly for me.  Any idea's?

Hey tdotjay,
The article linked below provides information about DNS servers. There may be an issue with your Mac's DNS configuration that could be problematic on your work network.

  • Trouble browsing technet on Linux

I have trouble browsing the technet website with Linux. Both in Konqueror and in Netscape. Loads of links are dead or don't work and I cannot get the license agreement accepted when trying to dowload the JDeveloper9i release candidate. I've spend about 10 minutes trying to contact a site-administrator only to discover there doesn't seem to be one.
    Hope for some response,
    Guido

    Hi,
Which version of Konqueror are you using? I noticed that the older versions don't completely implement several W3C standards and therefore have problems on some sites.
I've been able to access OTN fine using Netscape 4.7, recent Mozilla builds and the Konqueror browser in KDE 2.2. There are occasionally problems at busy times of the day, but these didn't appear to be browser specific.

  • Firefox 18.0.1 started downloading the minute I clicked on the icon. Get cloudy pages and freezing trouble browsing. Trouble signing off computer.

I turned on my computer and clicked on firefox. It immediately downloaded the new version 18.0.1 without me even clicking on it. It did the add on stuff too. I had trouble browsing after that and the pages freeze up and cloud over. I had trouble signing off my computer. I had to do a hard turn off. What's going on?

hello, please try [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL|updating your graphics driver]], or in case there is no new version available at the moment disable hardware acceleration in firefox > options > advanced > general.

  • Trouble browsing phone, picture files not showing up

I think this might be the first time I've tried taking pictures off my phone since I had Leopard installed. Previously I had no trouble taking pictures off my phone and saving them to my computer, but now there are only two folders showing up when I browse the device, 'ftp' and 'vcard' neither of which is what I'm looking for. There is no trouble pairing or anything, but I don't know how to find the pictures on my phone anymore. It is a Samsung Blade (ah 900 or something) What is going on and what am I missing?

Instead of trying to 'pull' the pictures off the phone from the Mac, why not try sending the photos to the Mac from the phone.
Usually there's a 'Send via Bluetooth' (or similar) option within the pictures folder in the menus of the phone.
Also, have you enabled Bluetooth Sharing the in Sharing system preferences pane.

  • Having trouble browsing the internet at home with my MacBook

I have been having issues browsing the web from home with my MacBook. When I try to go to pretty much any web site (Google, Yahoo!, Facebook, etc) the page starts loading and makes minimal progress before it stalls and I'm staring at a blank white browser window. The page will eventually load after about 3-4 minutes but only partially.
I have a Belkin N+ router (model F5D8235-4 v2) and a fiber optic internet service. My sister and my brother-in-law are able to access any and all sites quickly and completely. She has a MacBook Pro and he has a Dell Inspiron (so it doesn't seem to be a Mac vs Windows issue). We have tried changing the router password type from WEP to WPA. I've tried to hardwire into my router with no success. I have cleared my entire cache, history, and cookies - still no change. I have also not had any success with using a different browser.
I have no issues when I'm using my Mac at work (on a T1 line with an Ethernet cable) or at my mother's house (Netgear ADSL2+ wireless router). I'm curious as to what I can do to fix this. My Mac friends at work and my systems analyst/programmer dad are all as confused as I am. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

The Learning Center uses Flash. My guess is that you probably installed the PowerPC Flash plugin and replaced the Universal plugin that ships with the Intel-based Macs.
To restore the Universal version of the plugin, go to http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=2dda3d81 and download the preview release.

  • Trouble browsing photos to attach to e-mail

I'm trying to attach a photo to an e-mail and have tried two different ways but have not had luck with either.  First, I clicked the paperclip icon to attach, then clicked the Pictures folder.  I have iPhoto folders for each year 2005-2012 (all with photos in them), yet the 2012 folder does not appear on the Pictures list--no idea why not.  So then I tried to click the iPhoto browser icon.  It said "Open iPhoto to see photos from your iPhoto library in this list"--iPhoto was open at the time.  I am at a loss as to what to do.  I have iPhoto '11 version 9.3 on a MacBook.

    This:
So then I tried to click the iPhoto browser icon.
is the correct way to go.
    As to fixing it:

  • Trouble browsing network shares

I am using an iMac as a server and quite often I receive a "connect failed " error when trying to browse the shares located on the iMac. When I can connect the connection process seems to take what feels like a long time. This behavior happens on both a wired and wireless connection.
Is there a way to configure a network so that network browsing is less error prone?

have you tried including the user name in the address?

  • X2-01 giving me trouble browsing internet

Im having problems using internet on my x2-01 ,i can't access social networks and my phone has been configered well.please help on what should do.

    Thahblose,
    Welcome to Nokia Discussions
You need an active internet connection in order to do that and to check the internet settings of the phone, go to Menu> Settings> Configuration - you may also keep in touch with your network provider to obtain the right settings. Aside from that, you must also have a good reception / network coverage to utilize internet services within the network.
The default security code for Asha and as well as other Nokia phones is 12345.

  • Iweb "home page" trouble/browser discrepancies

My webpage is nearing completion and I'm attempting to identify and work out the bugs. In Safari, Opera and Camino the first ordered page in iWeb loads and runs properly. Domain name of michaelblatchford.com opens www.michaelblatchford.com/intromovie.html. Once movie is finished and page clicked, the next page www.michaelblatchford.com/Welcome.html opens...
Now, in Firefox instead of the intromovie opening it always goes straight to the Welcome page. I've cleared the cache and nothing changes. Both Opera and Camino operate properly. Help!

Now, in Firefox instead of the intromovie opening it
always goes straight to the Welcome page.
Not for me it doesn't. Works fine.

  • SOME Windows machines can't browse for Mac printers

I have a Mac mini with an HP 5940 attached to it. I also have three Windows machines hanging around: my laptop, my wife's laptop, and my wife's desktop. My laptop and my wife's desktop are running XP Pro SP2. My wife's laptop is running XP Media Center Edition SP2. My mini is running 10.5.3.
My laptop has no difficulty with the printer. It can print all day long, browse for the printer, anything I want to do.
My wife's machines cannot. They cannot browse for the printer (browsing ends at the computer entry for the Macintosh). They had a previously set up print queue (evidently this did work before), but cannot print using it; documents pile up on the PC.
If I create a new printer on my wife's machine and enter the \\machine\queue stuff manually, I am prompted for a username and password for the connection. Entering my Mac short username and password allows me to print from her machines, until they reboot. Upon reboot, the print queue no longer works; documents pile up at the PC, etc.
I can see no difference in the way the print queues are set up on all of the machines.
I do not know why my laptop can browse the Mac's printers while my wife's cannot.
I do not know why my wife's machines require a username and password in order to connect to the printer, while mine does not.
I do not know how to enter a username and password for my wife's printers upon rebooting without deleting and recreating the printer. Which means I have to type the lengthy \\machine\queue stuff again, because browsing doesn't work.
    Any ideas?

And I have now fired up the desktop PC I retired when I installed this Mac mini.
Like my laptop, it has no trouble browsing the printers on the Mac or printing to them.
So, I have a total of 5 machines trying to print over the network to the Mac:
    - My laptop PC works
    - My desktop PC works
    - My NetBSD box works
    - My wife's laptop PC *does not* work
    - My wife's desktop PC *does not* work
I don't know how the Mac can tell whether a machine is mine or my wife's so it knows whether or not to work...

  • Unable to browse Internet intermittently

I have a MacBook air 2011 and updated to latest lion last week. Since then I am having trouble browsing using safari and Firefox.
The pages often won't load at all but occasionally work fine.
I have logged on as guest user and safari works fine but I can't figure out what I need to change.
I have reset safari and cleared cache and repaired permissions etc.
Can anyone suggest a next step?
    Thanks.

Does your phone receive a valid ip address from your router?
Does it work fine when connected to other wifi networks?  If so, then I'd say your router is the culprit.

  • Trouble getting into iTunes Shopping Cart

Everytime I try to get into my iTunes Shopping Cart, I get a message that "The iTunes Store is temporarily unavailable". However, when I try to add a song that I know is already in my shopping cart, it acknowledges that the song is already there.
I also have no trouble browsing songs in the iTunes Store.
    Any ideas???

Usually you get this message when you install a version of iTunes which is earlier than the version you used to create the iTunes library file.
You get this situation when downgrading.
Could you clearify your situation, are you using iTune data copied from a previous computer and also which version you installed?
Assuming you are using old data, something quick you can try is to drag iTunes Library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml from your iTunes folder to the desktop, then try starting iTunes. It should start with an empty library. You can then add your music files in the normal way. If you want to recover playlists, the librayr can be recreated fromt xml file as in the Apple article:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93313
If this is a completely new installation of iTunes without old data from another PC, then that's somehing different and I am not sure about how to deal with it at this stage.

  • Browser is sticking and won't load

I just received my new MacBook in the mail Tuesday, and I'm having big trouble browsing. All the other MacBooks in the house are running fine on our wireless internet, but my Safari sticks and won't finish loading pages. About 1/4 inch of blue runs across the address bar, and that's where it stops loading. I waited 12 minutes for a site to load yesterday before I finally turned the computer off. Any suggestions as to what to do before calling support? Thanks.

The following usually works on both Tiger and Leopard:
(First, if yours is an Intel Mac, check that Safari is not running in Rosetta, which is enough to slow it to a crawl.)
Adding DNS codes to your Network Settings, should gives good results in terms of speed-up:
Open System Preferences/Network. Double click on your connection type, or select it in the drop-down menu. Click on TCP/IP and in the box marked 'DNS Servers' enter the following two numbers:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
(An explanation of why that is both safe and a good idea can be read here: http://www.labnol.org/internet/tools/opendsn-what-is-opendns-why-required-2/2587 / )
Whilst in System Preferences/Network you should also turn off 'IPv6' in your preference pane, as otherwise you may not get the full speed benefit (the DNS resolver will default to making SRV queries).
Click on Apply Now and close the window.
    Restart Safari, and repair permissions.
If that didn't do it, then try this as well:
Empty Safari's cache (from the Safari menu), then close Safari.
Go to Home/Library/Safari and delete the following files:
    form values
    download.plist
Then go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete
    com.apple.Safari.plist
    Repair permissions (in Disk Utility).
Start up Safari again, and things should have improved.

  • Long time to load a first page, get "the connection has timed out" frequently.

Frequently takes a long time to get to first page. Even a "speed test" to check my DSL connection. Usually can get to "google.com" quickly but it did come up slow today (just a test for a simple page).
I have a wireless N router with it's own Firewall (which I didn't want) and I think I've turned it off. Symantec firewall, don't think WinXP firewall is on.
Tried refresh of Adobe Flash Player per suggestion in this forum, no help.
Would like to have a tool to see how long each step of getting to the web takes so I can see if there's a bottleneck.
Occasionally "try again" button works on the "connection has timed out" message.
My PC is 6 yr old. xp-home, lots of ram, HDD available. Run Symantec AV/MBAM frequently. Ran Housecall and Dr. Web- no problems.
Talked to my DSL provider and Symantec in depth. Similar lethargy when I get IE running but not as frequent as under FF. Measured my DSL speed - 5MB as promised.
When the lag occurs, Task Manager does not show FF taking a lot of processor time.
Have done the things suggested in FAQ to help with performance.
Also going to bleepingcomputer.com to see if there are suggestions there.
I'm hoping someone has experienced an analog to this and has a suggestion to diagnose and solve. Thanks - Mike.

Here's your sign! This is my problem and its solution. Let me know if someone needs help to interpret.
If you frequently get "connection timed out", go to your ISP and get Manual DNS addresses. Then beat them till they put a real fix on their system.
Problem is in the DNS server service provided by my DSL provider, Bell South/AT&T. Result of a poor performing DNS is that one can't get thru to the selected site.
If you do a web search +dsl +"time out" you will see the history with Windstream. THEY finally issues a system-wide fix which, it appears, flattened the issue. Then add +AT&T to see that experience. I did not read it all thru, I'm wasted chasing this problem. I don't give AT&T ANY credit for customer service or heading off problems for their customers on this one.
    AT&T support offers me:

How do I check and update my DNS settings, if my DNS settings are not "server assigned"?
When you visit a Web site, your browser sends the site's alphabetic domain name to a DNS server. The DNS server translates the domain into a numeric IP address, then responds to your computer with the Internet location of the Web site. Incorrect DNS settings on your computer can disrupt this information flow and cause your Internet browsing to slow down or fail.
If you have trouble browsing the Internet, check your DNS settings. You likely have your DNS settings as "server-assigned." This allows DNS information to be automatically sent to your computer, which may improve your browsing experience. However, you may need to have your DNS settings manually entered
Note: If you are using a router to connect to your Internet service, check with your manufacturer's web site for instructions on updating your DNS settings with the following information:
    Primary DNS: 68.94.156.1
    Secondary DNS: 68.94.157.1
    1. Click the Start button and select Control Panel from the menu.
    2. Select Network and Internet Connections.
    3. Double-click the Network Connections icon at the lower right.
    4. Under the LAN or High-Speed Internet section, right-click the Local Area Connection icon and select Properties.
    5. From the "Components checked are used by this connection" list, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP), then click the Properties button.
    6. Read the current DNS setting on the lower half of the TCP/IP properties screen. If the radio button Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected, you do not need to update your DNS settings. Otherwise, please continue.
    7. Input the new Preferred DNS server of 68.94.156.1 and the Alternate DNS server of 68.94.157.1.
    8. Click OK.
    9. Return to the Network Connections screen. If you have a DSL Connection icon in the Broadband section, proceed to next step otherwise you have completed updating your DNS settings.
    10. Under the Broadband section, right-click the DSL Connection icon and select Properties.
    11. Select the Networking tab.
    12. From the "This connection uses the following items" list, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the Properties button.
    13. Read the current DNS setting on the lower half of the TCP/IP properties screen. If the radio button Obtain DNS server address automatically is selected you do not need to up date your DNS settings. Otherwise, please continue.
    14. Input the new Preferred DNS server of 68.94.156.1 and the Alternate DNS server of 68.94.157.1.
    15. Click OK.
    ================================= end quote.
So it appears I can't put screen shots in here. Well I hope you get the gist.
In fact this is a bit hosed up.
It says if you user "automatic dns" you're OK, that's opposite of my experience.
I changed to the specified DNS addresses and things seem 99.9% fixed.
I also changed my Router (wireless) settings.
If there's a survey of my experience here I'll take it.

  • Is It My Macbook Pro or Leopard?

I have a Macbook Pro Core 2 Duo (November 2006) that was purring like a kitten when I bought (running on Tiger). Ever since upgrading to Leopard I've had nothing but problems, but some of them have been so disconcerting I'm not sure if the issue is simply Leopard or the problem goes deeper than that.
When I first upgraded to Leopard I had all kinds of trouble browsing my local network. Previewing a file on the server would cause the Macbook Pro to have a kernel panic and force a restart. About 50% of the time the restart wouldn't even work. It would just sit there after being shut down in some sort of weird limbo space. Not fully off, but certainly not powered up either.
I also started having problems in regards to audio. My MOTU Ultralite audio interface seemed to stop working (latest drivers and firmware installed). The Macbook Pro almost refused to see it as an output device, though input would work every once in a while.
So with all of these issues, I decided (since the MBP is my secondary machine) to see if an Erase and Install would solve the problems. And for a while I thought it did. That is until I tried to do some audio work again and my MOTU was only being recognized as an input device. Restarts have also gone back to our limbo area again. Leaving the MBP alone for a few minutes usually seems to resolve this along with disconnecting the battery.
So, my question is: is Leopard to blame or are there underlying issues here that Leopard has merely exposed. I have Leopard installed on a new Mac Pro at work and have had no problems with it there. I love the new OS, but it certainly doesn't seem to be showing my MBP any love what so ever.

Sounds like something nasty in the MOTU drivers to me, Brent. I see another , somewhat similar, post at http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7661455
Are you still suffering the KP's after the erase and install, or just the MOTU issues? Do the KP's occur if the MOTU is not connected and its drivers aren't installed? Will the computer restart normally if the MOTU is not connected?
My suggestion would be that you ditch the MOTU, and uninstall its drivers, until the issue is resolved (and if ditching it simply solves the problem then you know who to get in touch with!) to avoid confusing variables.
I doubt that Leopard has much directly to do with it, though it may be that MOTU need to update their drivers or firmware for compatibility, of course.
Finally, as with any FW device it is worth trying a new FW cable if things go awry. A bad cable can do nasty things under FW.
I guess you have checked out http://www.motu.com/techsupport/technotes/leopard-compatibility/view?searchterm= Leopard
Might be worth checking over at http://community.sonikmatter.com/forums/index.php?showforum=38 too, for people with a specific interest in this area.
    Cheers
