Trouble getting a new imac

i want to get a new imac as my flat panel is dead and wll cost way too much to fix however i was denied for Junpier. I know my friends used Frys credit card but it didnt work for me. anyone have any ideas or any places? best buy doesnt give me enough the credit to get a new imac.

If you go into your iWeb application are the files which are mentioned in the log actually there? You can go "into" an application by right-clicking (left mouse + ctrl) and choosing to "view package contents." Then follow the path mentioned in the console.
If the files (or one of them) isn't there, then I would just reinstall your iLife or get the files from somewhere.
Make sure you backup your iWeb Site files to ensure your site is not lost. You can use iTweak for that. It has a nice little backup feature to automatically complete that for you: http://itweak.guimkie.com

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

I realize is only 512MB of memory but I want to make sure that a new iMac will solve this problem.  Can the new iPhoto handle 10GB or more of photos?  Or do I have to go to Picasa anyways in which case I can buy any computer to do that?

The model of Mac is not partcularly relevant, it's the version of the OS and iPhoto that matter.
iPhoto - since 2006 - is good for 250,000 images.

I have a Canon DC310 camcorder that uses mini dvd's and doesn't have the ability to connect to a computer.  How can I get my new Imac to read these dvd's?  Will the mini dvd adapter work or do I need to purchase an external dvd rom device?  Which device works well with the Mac?  Do I need anything else to get the dvd material onto my mac?  Thanks!!

No DV port in camcorder.  Just a yellow AV port/hole.  I did find a Canopus ADVC110 device in a box that was bought several years ago to convert VHS tapes onto DVD's.  Can I use this with a Mac?  Could I connect a dvd player to the Canopus and transfer the disks onto my Mac?  Or, connect the camcorder via AV port to the Canopus and that to the Mac and transfer that way?  Thanks again!

  • Getting a new iMac - overwhelmed w info here but need help

    Hi,
I'm getting a new iMac next week and need help with Blackberry Bold 9000 issues and syncing with iCal, etc on the machine.  I have been told that I can buy an app for about $30 that will sync the BB with the mac programs but reading here, I am confused - are some of the posts here and the KB notes related to syncing directly with the mac software or are they only for making a separate BB desktop for the mac?
I have looked at several of the KB notes but I haven't found the answer yet.
    thanks.

    What’s the difference between:
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 4x2GB http://Add $200.00...
    (from 4GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x2GB)
    and
    8GB 1066MHz DDR3 SDRAM - 2x4GB http://Add $600.00
4GB DIMMs are at present significantly more expensive than 2GB DIMMs. It's your choice whether to pay the extra money and have empty slots available for additional future memory expansion (without removing any existing memory).
I presume 2.8GHz Quad-Core Intel i7 is bigger, or more powerful than the 3.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo of the 21.5” iMac model. Correct?
Generally yes. You can see benchmarks on places like Barefeats if you want to see comparison numbers.
it appears the CD/DVD problem thing is not evident in the 27” model as it at least was in the 21.5” model. Right?
I can't add anything to what I said on the subject previously.
cracked screens upon opening the box of the new computer, were much more of a problem for the bigger, 27” models that the 21.5” models. Hopefully, Apple has taken care of that by packaging them more carefully.
I haven't seen a report of any cracked screens in several weeks now. But with the gorillas the shipping companies tend to use, there are no guarantees. I once received a pallet-load of computers that the trucking company had driven a forklift blade through. So you never know how your computer might arrive. The prevalence of problems seems to have been alleviated, though.

Whew, I think you'll have to start over, & use Disk Utility to Verify or Repair both Hard Drives before trying again.

  • Looking to get a new imac

I currently have an iMac 20 inch which I have had for almost a year now. My dads computer isnt functioning the way he needs it to so we are thinking about giving mine to him and me getting a new iMac. The question I have is this...I do video work in final cut studio so I do video rendering, and Im looking into getting the 24 inch 2.88 Ghz model. Would that computer be ok for what Im doing or should I get the 3.06 Ghz model for the better performance? I don't do a ton of video work but when I do its pretty heavy rendering. Im just not sure if I should get the 2.88 Ghz or 3.06 Ghz model. Any advice is helpful. Thanks!

My opinion would be to go with the 3.06GHz model. I just got mine last week and I run all Adobe apps (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, etc.) along with always having my Mail, iTunes and Safari open.
I made sure to max out the RAM at 4GB and it has been a superb machine for me to this point. You may not notice a large difference in the processor speeds, however every little bit counts and you get the GeForce 8800GS card with 512MB which for your use is a much better card than the ATI in the 2.8 model.
For me, it was also a factor of wanting the best model out there so it takes just that much longer to become obsolete.
If the few extra hundred dollars are not an issue, I highly recommend the 3.06GHz model. I will also add the 24" is awesome in terms of real estate. Makes my 23" ACD at work look tiny! Good luck with your decision. Let us know if you have any other questions.

  • When to get a new iMac

I've been waiting for a number of months to get a new iMac. Optimally, I wanted to save the most money by waiting for the latest model, plus getting iLife '08 and Mac OS 10.5 Leopard.
However, I'm caught in a small bind. Since I do development work, I try to have a variety of test systems, dating as far back as Mac OS 10.1. I have Mac OS 10.4 on a PowerPC Mac, but not an Intel Mac yet. Unfortunately, the retail copies of Mac OS 10.4 are only available for PowerPC Macs, and not for Intel-based Macs, since all of the Intel-based Macs have come out during the Tiger timeframe.
Would it be a good idea to get a new iMac (preloaded with Tiger) right now and then get Leopard when it comes out (and create a dual-boot), or is there so little difference between the PPC and Intel versions of Tiger that I shouldn't worry too much?
At this point, I haven't noticed any real problems occurring from the Intel/UB versions of my applications, but I don't want to be caught by unexpected surprises and not having a proper test platform.

I don't think that there is that much difference. I originally did some dev work on a G5 PPC and the app ran without problems on both G4 PPC and Intel Macs.
I would go for a iMac now and then buy the retail version of Leopard. You might also want to look at the "Sandbox" feature of SuperDuper! http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html

Since getting a new iMac at work, I can't sync my iCal on the iPhone. The iCal on the computer is fine, but nothing shows on my iPhone.
Everything else syncs and the Apple support person tried for over an hour yesterday and couldn't get it to sync.
    Please help!

Yes, 10.5.8.  Is there another way to add in an account to sync my calendars then?  I use a Yahoo account.

  • Thinking about getting a new iMac to use as the main computer.  Has anyone done this?  What is your experience and recommendations?

We have a 2009 MBP, 2010 MBP, 2011 MBA, an IPAD 2, and several ipods.  Currently, my 2009 MBP is the main computer, holding all the music and pictures.  This has used up the majority of the available storage and definitely slows it down some.  I do back up the full computer to a backup drive and also remove the large movie files to another external drive.  I'm thinking about getting a new iMac to use as the main computer.  Has anyone done this?  What is your experience and recommendations?
I look forward to all responses.
    Thanks,
    Brad

Thanks for your response.  I look forward to hopefully learning something new here.
A good share of my music was added via my CDs, but now everything is added via itunes and occasionally amazon.  Almost all my pictures and video are added through my cameras via iphoto although I have added some with the 'add image to iphoto library' function also.

  • How do I get a new iMac to inherit Time Machine backups from my old iMac?

After successfully migrating from my old iMac to my new iMac, I connected my Time Machine drive (containing the backup files from my old iMac).  Following the instructions from my Apple Genius Desk guru, I opened System Preference>Time Machine and selected the Time Machine drive to be my designated Time Machine for my new iMac.   I was presented with a dialog asking if I wanted to "Inherit the backup files that existed on the drive" (or words to that effect).  I selected "Yes".  I was told that this would create a continuous backup record, so that I would be able, using the "Enter Time Machine" command, to access all the backups going forward for my new iMac, but also all the files from my previous iMac, in a "seamless" chain of backups.  However, it didn't work out as I expected.  Looking in the Finder at the contents of my Time Machine drive, I saw that both the current and the prior backup files appeared to be there, all inside one folder, as I expected.  But using the "Enter Time Machine" command from the Time Machine drop-down menu I could not go back any further than the moment of migration to the new iMac.  On the upside, it seems like I will be able to recover old backup files using the Finder, but, on the downside it appears that I will NOT be able to use "Enter Time Machine" to return to search the backup files from my old iMac, in a "seamless" fashion as I had expected.  Did I miss something???  Or is this just the way it is???

Without knowing what you have tried please open System Preferences - Sharing - File Sharing and select File Sharing. If you still have trouble you can call AppleCare in the morning when they re-open. You have 90 days of telephone support if you haven't already bought AppleCare.

  • I am planning on getting a new IMAC will my old software work on the new mac

I am planning on buying a IMAC so will I have to replace all my software that is on my G4 running 10.5.8 ?

Not ALL of your software, but likely some of it. Right click on an application and click "Get Info." Next to "Kind:" if it says Power PC, it will not work on a new iMac.
