Trouble Updating Songs on iPod

Ive never had a problem with my mini iPod until this week. I plugged it into my PC on night (like normal) and when I came back an hour later, all the songs were gone even though the songs were still in the library. I reset the iPod and downloaded the newest updater and updated it. I also removed iTunes and downloaded the newest iTunes. Now it detects it, but it wont update all the songs. It only updates about 15 songs at a time, and i have 800 songs to update! I thought this might be a problem with the usb port, so i plugged it into another usb port and iTunes wont detect the iPod, so I had to reset the iPod, and update it, and start the long process again. Is there anyway I can fix this? I dont know if you need this information, but I have a 4Gb mini that was bought in july of this year.

basically as the topic says im having trouble with itunes and my ipod Video , the problem is that i connect my ipod to my computer ,itunes recognizes my ipod and says its updating songs but it doesnt and after a minute or so it says "Itunes has encountered an error" and closes down.
Any idea on how to solve this problem ??
any help will be appreciated
Windows XP

okay, we'd better try enlisting some additional technical help then.
we'll get a crash log from itunes, and send it to so someone who can interpret crash logs. (it may take a few days before you get a response.)
Typically, you'll need to configure Dr. Watson on your PC in order to generate crash logs. Windows start menu -> Run. Type in "cmd". Hit return. At the prompt in the command line window that comes up, type in
drwtsn32 -i
And hit return.
This will create crash logs in Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\Dr Watson\. There'll usually be a file in here called "drwtsn32.log"
prior to collecting the itunes crash log, delete any existing crash logs in there. (we want to make sure we send the correct crash log.)
generate the crash, collect the crash log, and send it to this email address
in the email:
(1) state the precise version number of itunes that you're using, the version number of your ipod updater, the software version on your ipod, and the model of ipod you're getting the crash with:
iPod: How to find software version
Identifying different iPod models
(2) include the URL to this thread so that the person who gets the email has some context, but also give as much information about the context of the crashing as you can.

• Cannot update songs in iPod

Hi,
My problem is this one:
I bought an external hard drive (200 GB)
I downloaded the iTunes in that external (H) drive - from Apple's site - than I transferred the songs I had in the C drive, in the H drive.
I didn’t know that I should transfer the iTunes library too. Anyway, I deleted EVERYTHING in the C drive.
Than I realize that I don’t have playlists in the H drive. Luckily I didn’t plug the iPod, because I would lose the playlists I had in my iPod. It took me few hours to write down my 50 something playlists. + 5,000 songs.
I am aware that there are programs that can transfer the songs from iPod in computer, but I read their Websites and I was not convinced of their efficacity.
Than I plugged the iPod. As expected the playlists disappeared, and the iTunes told me that – because there is no space enough – I had a big folder with pictures - will store TEMPORARY (?) some of the songs in a special playlist called “office something” (I don’t remember) I said OK, but few minutes later I realize that I have all the songs in the new playlist created, were present in my library, so… I deleted that playlist. I didn’t know that playlist is in fact my NEW library – if I’m not wrong.
Perhaps Apple should tell me WHAT HAPPENS IF I DELETE THAT PLAYLIST.
As well as when I moved the songs from the C drive – Apple should also tell me that I HAVE TO MOVE THE LIBRARY TOO!!!!!. Or much better HE should move it AUTOMATICALLY, without asking!!!!!!!!
Anyway, to make the story short, when I tried to update the iPod, appeared the message:
“Songs on the iPod “offici” cannot be updated because all of the playlists for updating no longer exist”
BTW, when I tried to find songs I have in iTunes, using the “search” function [Start > Search > All files and folders > Look in all hard drives C, D, H] I simply couldn't find the songs.
What I have right now in the H drive is a folder called > Programs > I Tunes and in that iTunes folder I have:
1) iTunes Music Library – 3 MB (an XML document) I looked a little bit and I saw: “<key>Music Folder</key> <string>file://localhost/C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/user/My%20Documents/My%20Music/iT unes/iTunes%”
C drive ???
2) iTunes Library – 2.6 G, which a window says: iTunes Library.itl = Windows cannot open this file
3) iTunes 4 Music Library, which Windows says cannot open too
4) Previous iTunes Libraries, folder which contains:
- iTunes 4 Music Library and
- iTunes Library; both about 2 GB
5) iTunes Music – a list of songs – I couldn’t found there a song I recently downloaded from Apple.
6) iTunes Music which contains:
- CD Configuration which contains:
- iTunes Resources
- iTunesHelper. Resources
- about iTunes
- iTunes (APLICATION – 11.1 MB)
7) iPod which contains:
- bin
- iPod Updater (4 folders)
So, how can I update the iPod?
Also a little strange thing: Offici Properties tells me that I have 14.7 GB Used Space - I opened the iPod and there is NOTHING inside - and iTunes says 31.55 GB (?!) I have an iPod 40 GB.
So pls help!
Thanx in advance!
Daniel

Try using the key combination Shift-Delete when deleting from a song from a playlist, this will delete it from the library as well.

• Updating songs on IPod in Windows and CPU usage

Whever i update songs on my ipod, iTunes will use lots of CPU. I do not have a problem with this as i have a dual core system that can handle the load, the problem is that when i switch away to another application iTunes will suddenly decide to idle and reduces it's cpu usage and the speed at which it encodes/transfers.
I'm guessing this is to increase respsonsivness so that you can use your computer but it makes the transfer horribly slow.
So, my question is how do i make iTunes use more CPU when it's not the foreground window? Is there a way?
Dual Core 2.66Mhz Pentium D Windows XP Pro

When you bring another application to the front of iTunes while it is updating, it will reduce the cpu usage of itself. Load up task manager and see for yourself. Normally when iTunes is the foreground window it will use 70%-80% of the CPU for encoding. Now this isn't a problem, i have a dual core CPU so iTunes can use all the cpu it wants and it won't lag the rest of the computer ( even if i do play games)
My problem occurs when i want to switch away from iTunes and browse the web while waiting for it to update, when i do this it takes forever to update the iPod because iTunes has gone into low priority mode and only uses about 5% CPU, I want to know if there is a way to "PREVENT" iTunes into going into this "IDLE" mode and instead use as much CPU as it wants on one core, because i don't want to have to set it up and walk away for an hour.
I suppose this is really a developer issue, in that they have not used proper multi-threading to take advantage of dual core CPU's. Still an option to disable the low priority mode would be nice.

HELP! !

hiya!
hmmmm. some other connection issues have been known to cause the -69, although under those circumstances people more typically get the "disk cannot be read from or written to" error message.
working on that theory, let's see if anything in this document helps:
"Disk cannot be read from or written to" when syncing iPod or "Firmware update failure" error when updating or restoring iPod

• Updating songs on ipod

My computer crashed and I had to restore all music on hardrive from the ipod. That was successful. Now everytime I plug in my ipod it updates all 1000 songs from itunes. When I checked "update only checked songs" it updates those songs, but all of the other songs are gone from the ipod. I want to be able to plug in my ipod and have it only update the new songs, but keep the old songs as well. What do I have to select in preferences to do this?
Thanks,
Brian

Set the iPod to manage music manually, and then delete the songs from your computer; when the iPod is set to sync manually, songs won't be deleted from it after they've been deleted from your computer.

• Cannot update songs into ipod, please help.

Hello,
Thank you for your time in advance.
I have updated my iTunes and that is fine. However, I cannot update my iPOD update. There is a message, "iPOD Setup.Exe is not a valid Win 32 application."
I suspect that's why I cannot update my songs. I have tried everything for the last 4 hours, including restoring my ipod and my itunes, to no avail.
Can anyone offer a suggestion?
Thank you.

hmmmmm. it might be a good idea if you do a check through your PC for malware. that message is suspiciously similar to one folks can get as a result of a Pretty Park infection:
You Are Unable to Start a Program with an .exe File Extension
but if the PC seems clean, try downloading a fresh copy of the ipod updater installer. (that message can also sometimes show up if the installer file gets damaged during the download.)

• Old Computer Crashed - Can't Update Songs To iPod On New One

My old computer crashed, I installed itunes on my new one and purchased some songs. Now I can't get the new songs to copy to my ipod. Itunes recognizes the ipod when I plug it in, and "updating ipod" flashes quickly but the songs don't copy. Also when I plug in the ipod the songs on it come up but I can't play them from itunes. Can anyone help me out?

First try resetting the ipod by holding the center and menu button for 6 to 10 sec.
If that doesn't work, go here and install the latest ipod updater http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Once thats done goto start>all programs>ipod>ipod updater 06-28-2006 and restore the ipod. Restore will wipe the ipod clean of everything and then you use iTUnes to load it back up. More on restore can be read here http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=60983

Try disabling the computer's antivirus and firewall.
- Next try the manual install method of:
iDevice Troubleshooting 101 :: iPhone, iPad, iPod touch
- Then try on another computer

• Trouble deleting songs from iPod Shuffle, 2nd generation

I have a 2nd generation iPod Shuffle. I have songs on my iPod I want to delete. These particular songs no do not show on my playlist on iTunes. How do I delete them from my actual iPod? I have tried in vain to do so. Thanks so much.

Thanks, Brenden. I was able to restore my iPod Shuffle, following the provided link. All of the songs on the Shuffle were deleted.
I had the songs in my iTunes library that I wanted to sync with the Shuffle. I checked the songs in the library I wanted synced, but none of them came back on my Shuffle. Odd. It stated the "sync was complete," however, my Shuffle remains empty of any songs.
Oh well ... Will work at this more to see what the problem is. At least I have the songs in my iTunes library.

• Having trouble transferring songs in iPod

I just got a new laptop and I also just downloaded iTunes... i have an iPod already with alot of songs on it
Im wondering if its possible for me to transfer the songs I already have to my new library... while keeping the songs on my iPod too.
Thank you!

iPodRip has always been buggy for me - if you have songs with the same title but by different artists (e.g. "Angel" is a song title by both Aerosmith and Sarah McLachlan), and one is currently resident in iTunes, it will not import the other as it is falsely marked as already being in iTunes.
I'd go with Senuti or MusicRescue. Never tried Yamipod.
To the original poster: A program like Yamipod will only get your songs back into iTunes, since you've lost your original files. You still need iTunes itself to play the songs and for future transfers into your iPod.

• Ipod updates songs, then ejects itself.

After automatically updating songs, my iPod ejects itself while still hooked up via USB. It's also listed in my iTunes after it ejects itself. Any ideas what's up? I also just replaced the hard drive with a Toshiba replacement and it's working well.

"I would have to click on Eject iPod (on the iTunes screen) in order to properly eject it."
Only when you have "disk use" enabled for the iPod. Otherwise, as Bryan said, it auto ejects after song transfer has finished.

• I am having trouble updating files on my Ipod Nano 7g.

I am having trouble updating files on my Ipod Nano 7g. When I drag and drop files it simply holds and never updates. This is a new issue and no new software has been installed. I re-installed Itunes to no avail. All serrvices appear to be running. The Ipod does show up in Itunes but will not allow me to manage my music. I ran the diagnostic tests and when this ran, it could not locate my Ipod. Any help would be appreciated.

I got a new nano for my son and have other ipods sync just fine to my HP but I plugged in and set up an apple account for the new nano and ordered a movie and a song but the nano is just not showing up on the computer .....not syncing and I am afraid to clear things so 'it can be recognized' as it might effect the 3 other ipods we have working right....:} thanks for your inquiry

• ITunes updates songs, playlists, etc., but will not update iPod options

When I plug in my iPod (4G, 40GB), everything syncs as it should --songs, playlists, podcasts, etc. The same is true when I manually choose to update the pod. (i.e. from a context menu or somewhere else in the UI) However, I am unable to change any of the options for the iPod. This includes renaming, choosing disk access, etc.
When I attempt to make these changes from the "Preferences" dialog, iTunes will say "Updating iPod," etc. but while the changes appear in iTunes, they are not actually made on the iPod itself.
A similar situation occurs when renaming the iPod. Same as before, iTunes "goes through the motions" but doesn't actually change. The difference is that after the iPod is renamed, it will no longer update until the iPod is ejected and reconnected. iTunes gives an error message saying: "The iPod '[New Name]' cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to." The name listed in the iPod's About menu is still the old name.
Info:
iTunes version: 6.0.4.2 (Win)
iPod firmware: 3.1.1
iPod connected via firewire

iPod freezing up can sometimes indicate a hard drive failure. To determine this, follow these steps:
Press menu + select until the apple logo appears.
With the apple logo still on the screen, press and hold select + rewind. You will soon see a screen that says "IRAM PASS HIT PLAY CONTINUE".
Press play/pause.
Using the forward button, navigate to "HDD SCAN" and select it.
Connect your iPod to the wall adapter.
Allow sufficient time for the scan to complete, it can take a couple of hours. Results such as a "HDD PASS" that appears in seconds or a minute or two, "SCAN NG" or "RD FAIL" indicate the iPod's hard drive is pooched and the unit will have to be replaced.
Freezing during sync can also happen if the ports are not high powered USB 2.0.

• "Songs on iPod 'jerm' cannot be updated because all of the playlists..."

I recently bought a 1GB iPod Nano from a dude on craigslist and I updated it once, but when I try to update it now a message comes up that reads:
"Songs on iPod 'jerm' cannot be updated because all of the playlists selected for updating no longer exist."
Also, when I updated it yesterday, it said that the iPod didn't have room for all of the songs on my iTunes...but I only have like 75 regular-length songs on there and the 1GB is supposed to hold 240. Anyone know what's up with that?
After it informed me of this last thing, it made me a playlist of a "selection" of songs from the iTunes and updated it with those.
I deleted that playlist today...may that be related to my first question?
All of this doesn't make sense. Can anyone shed a little light on the subject?
Thanks
Sony VAIO Windows XP

I had this problem with my 4GB iPod nano and I tried everything that you said to try. I did accidentally delete the iPod Selection playlist and I tried to make a new smart playlist. When I did this I got an error message that said "The smart playlist contains one or more conditions which are empty of conflict with one another. This will result in never matching any item. Are you sure you want to save this playlist?" I tried to upload an old library onto my iTunes and it was successful, however, my iPod would still not sync. Do you know what i can do to fix this?
thank you.
