Trouble with Maverick, lost everything on MBP upgrade?

Im not sure what to do next, and afraid I may have lost everything a moment ago
so would really appreciate some help at the moment.
-- Last night I started downloading the Maverick upgrade from app store, woke up and pushed the button to start the install.
-- The screen was showing the green bar at the end stage of the install for an hour, even though it was saying "less than a minute remaining"...
-- I didn't know what to do, so I abandoned without thinking and shut down => restarted => now the computer is taking me through the steps as it did when I first bought the computer.
-- Im afraid I may have wiped the system clean when I aborted the install (?)
-- I started going through the steps, but then stopped when I realized what was happening. Shut down again, restarted in "safe mode" but still getting the set-up (choose your main language) welcome page.
What can I do to get my data back? I moved over to an iMac recently so havent been backing it up with time machine, have a few very important files on the desktop that I would really like to try and recover...
I know this was lame to not have a backup.
Any advice from any of the pros out there,
please help!

Hi, I had exactly the same situation.
Yesterday I managed to reinstall without loosing any data.
I did following:
1) I have installed Maverick OSX once again to external HDD. I pressed CMD-R when booting and selected second option Reinstall OSX and have chosen external drive.
Then I booted from external HDD and WAS ABLE to access all my data on internal HDD. So I did BACKUP and copied them all out to ext HDD.
2) I removed external HDD with backup and pressed CMD-R during restart. I have selected again second option to Reinstall OSX (this time on internal HDD). Everything went smoothly (except the last minute was much longer, but don't panic again - shame on Apple) after installation has completed and did natural reboot I had all my profiles and all my data ready in computer. No need to restore anything from backup

Any trouble with Mavericks installation?

I too have upgraded four of my Macs to Mavericks and had no problems at all with any of them. One of the flaws of discussion groups is that one gets a skewed idea of the number of problems that users have because it is human nature to complain about something, whilst the majority of users who don't have a problem seldom bother to remark on this fact!
I, like most of the successful upgraders here, always follow a simple routine that involves firstly backing up, then (if upgrading multiple Macs) creating a bootable drive with the updater on, using Disk Utility or similar to repair permissions before upgrading the OS. I never use the Mac when upgrading and close all the programs and disconnect all external drives, save for the one with the updater on.
Following this routine means that I have never had a problem with an update since OS 7.5 on any of my 16 odd Macs. Of course, smugness always comes before a fall...!

Trouble with FP 10.3.183.7 upgrade - wasn't working and now doesn't download

Current system info:
Windows 7 (64 bit)
Internet Explorer 9 (using 32 bit for downloading FP)
I upgraded to 10.3.183.7 and immediately noticed my laptop unable to display/use Flash features (facebook games, online flyers, video, etc)
I uninstalled and installed multiple times using both Control Panel and the uninstaller provided on Adobe help page. I restarted my laptop after every install and after every uninstall. I made sure to use 32-bit IE each time.
At first Programs (and Control Panel) showed FP as installed but now it doesn't register as installed at all - aside from the installer program telling me it is installed.
After installing, on the Adobe 'test' page instead of the spinning F I see a box with an 'x' in the top left hand corner (like an image/graphic that won't load).
I tried the beta FP 11 but same problem. It at least showed up on my programs list. I uninstalled it and am back to FP 10.3
I have been on the help page trying anything I can find to get it working but no luck so far. Any advice for this issue?

FP does appear in my Control Panel for uninstalling but does not appear in my Programs list. I downloaded Google Chrome and FP seems to work with it (though I'm not a big fan of the browser)So, it would appear to be an IE issue? When an apps or any windows is on "Presentation mode", the mac by it self goes to finder or another apps or window in the finder...I don´t know wthat it is...a trouble with maverick..or a virus...help please...thanks!

Screen trouble with maverick

Since installing Mavericks I have had trouble with the monitor and/or QuickTime7. Sometimnes a movie goes into a flurry and must a) close the movie and open it again or b) close QT and reopen program. And sometimes the whole screen goes into a flurry and I have to force quit and restart. Thought there was just some update coming soon for the screen and/or fglash/java, but nothing has happened, and this NEVER happened with Mountain Lion…

I'm having the exact same problem. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what is causing it, but I can tell you what it isn't(at least in my case). I made an in app purchase yesterday using a MasterCard I had linked to my account with no problems. This morning, my card from my new bank came in so I switched it over(American Express), and all of a sudden can't make IAP. I thought maybe there was an issue with the card, so I tried it out on a .99 app, and it worked no problem. So I got with tech support and they had me reset all of my phone settings -_-, then my network settings. No change. I tried restarting the phone obviously, closing the App and trying again, no luck. They suggested I call my bank and make sure the address I had on file for the card matched what I supplied for my Apple account, and that didn't fix it either. I tried IAP on two different apps and it was the same, could not connect to App Store error. I'm still trying to figure it out, and I'm sorry I can't be of more help, but I hope I at least save you some trouble of trying these things. If I find anything out I'll let you know.

Endless Trouble with Mavericks

I've had to move my HP printer frequently between locations. I have struggled endlessly setting up, and using my Deskjet 3050 610a with Mavericks on my Mac. I have spent hours searching the HP & Apple forums & support pages for workarounds which either do not work or work inconsistently. The issues have ranged from wireless connection, to installing the printer on computer, to getting the scan to work. The latest, missing "Scan Save" from printer webpage, is just the latest in the string of endless frustrations.
Would someone please just tell me, if HP/Apple will ever release software & drivers? And, please don't tell me Apple Update takes care of the updates, because the drivers are supposedly up to date, but obviously not functional.
It has been six months since release of Mavericks, and I am seriously wondering if any HP printers will ever work - as they did before Mavericks - on my Mac.

If you can use a computer which runs Windows or older versions of Mac, you can connect the printer wirelessly. Then afterwards add your printer onto your Mavericks system.

Trouble with Maverick install

Trouble downloading and installing Maverick on Mac Pro. Computer is from 2007 and running snow leopard Mac OS X (10.6.8)- seems ot have plenty of available space and memory...

There are ways to get Mountain Lion or Mavericks onto a 2006 or 2007 Mac Pro. Some are discussed at xlr8yourmac.com.
Do you have a specific need for Mavericks? I am running it wirh caution on only one drive, until the various bugs are addressed. Still using Snow Leopard for everything that matters.
If you are worried about the lack of security updates for Safari 5, just use something else. Current versions of Firefox or Chrome work in Snow Leopard.

Anyone else having trouble with overly sensitive voice control upon upgrading to 5.01?

Today I upgraded my iPhone 4 to iOS 5.01.
Then I went running, as I do 3 times a week.
Every 50 feet the music would stop and Voice Control would come up. This is extremely frustrating! I've never had this issue before -- same phone, same headset that I've been using all year.
I'm using the Nike Plus running app, which uses the built-in iPod / Music app for playing music.
Never had an issue before now.
Anyone else have this problem?

Yes! I have this too! Siri keeps popping up all the time! And I don't run or use another app. Siri just opens and the mic symbol comes up. "What can I help you with?" Aaaaah. Very frustrating. Also only since the iOS 5.01 upgrade.

Need Help: Trouble with Wireless Router Connection on MBP

Hi all. I just bought a MacBook Pro (my first Mac ever) and love, love, love it. However, one glitch is driving me crazy. I do *NOT* have an airport but I connect to my cable modem through my netgear wireless router. When my MacBook Pro goes into sleep mode, I lose the connection to the wireless router. I have to go unplug the router to reboot it for the MBP to see it again. I think it has something to do with how it is assigning the IP address. Has anyone else seen this issue? Know how to solve it? I can not use my Aperture or Photoshop programs since upgrading to Maverick. They will open, but as soon as I try to work on a photo, they quit and shut down. Anyone else have this problem? If so, how did you rectify it?

Trouble with Personal Hotspot after iOS 6 upgrade

I have the "new" iPad (3rd gen) with LTE on Verizon, 32GB White. I purchased it about 2 weeks after
It has worked flawlessly as a personal hotspot from the day I bought it, until upgrading to iOS 6.
After the iOS 6 upgrade, I can connect without an issue the first time I use persona hotspot (either of my 2 laptops or my iphone). If I turn Personal Hotspot off or let it time out, my devices will take a long time, but seemingly connect to the hotspot and pull an IP address (170.20.10.x). The problem is that I cannot connect to the internet. My work laptop (Windows 7) will report limited connectivity, my macbook will report that it can't connect to the internet and my iphone will fall back to the cellular connection (3G EVDO) for internet.
If I restart the iPad (by holding home and power buttons), I can use the hotspot ONCE normally and all devices can connect to the internet. The process repeats and if I turn it off or it times out, I have to restart again to use the hotspot.
I have "reset network settings" on the iPad but this had no impact, and the problem persists.
What else can I do to restore the personal hotspot functionality?
Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

I had the same problem with my iPhone - personal hotspot worked just once and then restart was needed. Today I tried to soft reset my iPhone and it seems it helped. Before reset, I was able to reproduce this error everytime I tried. Now personal hotspot works for whole day without problems. I hope the issue won't come back.
Soft reset can be performed by simultaneous holding home and power button. It should not cause loss of any data or settings.

Lost everything trying to upgrade...

I'm new here and I apologize if I am on the wrong forum but I need some help with my Blackberry Curve 8330 my phone service is with sprint, I download it to my computer desktop the desktop manager v 4.5 and I was able to transfer all my info from my Treo 600 to my new phone (this was a like a month ago), while I was at work I try to look up the nascar news and it was telling me about an error to contact sprint wich I did and they told me to go to the blackberry website and update the software on the phone. I did this and while I was doing it everything on the phone got wipe out so now I can't make phone call or do anything on the phone because the main screen all it shows is a white screen with 507 on it. Can anyone tell me what to do now to get everything back or what website I can get the software back because I can't seem to find anything that will help me in the blackberry support part on the website.

Also, the software automatically makes a backup before erasing your OS (usually) so search your computer for .ipd files. It usually stores it in My Documents. You can restore the latest one after reinstalling the OS.

Has anyone with a new 2011 15" MBP upgraded to 10.6.8 with no issues?

I know any post here about 10.6.8 is probably someone with a problem. I'm still nervous about upgrading, but I do like to keep my devices updated. Has this gone smoothly for anyone? I want to be ready for Lion when released.
If I force a Time Machine backup just before the upgrade, and have issues, will it be a simple process to restore?

ive had my 15"" macbook pro now just over 2weeks i upgraded to 10.6.8 without any issues thus far,
however if youre thinking of upgrading then cover your back and do a bootable backup using CCC or i use superduper just to be safe, unfortunately time machine backup is not bootable but only saves your files.
if you were going to use time machine then you would need to do a clean install using SL DVD and restore from time machine
using CCC or suoerduper would completely restore your system as its 1 for 1 copy
