Trouble with quicktime conversion

I have been trying to export a fairly large (80 min) project to quicktime- not turning it into an .mov file, (I am running FInal Cut HD and when i choose export i press quicktime movie) when I export the project though there are chunks of sound that are periodically missing from the file... The sound on the original project is fine, I did this twice and audio was missing in the same spots.
Does anyone know what is going on?

Try doing an audio mixdown (you can look it up in the manual). This forces projects with many audio tracks to distill them down to just the two that will be output.
If that doesn't work, there is a condition where if the audio segment does not have a coreseponding video component covering it on the timeline - the audio drops out. (e.g. you fade to black for a couple of seconds with nothing in the video track before fading into the next video segment) The solution is to insert a black slug at those moments.
good luck.

  • Aspect ratio problem with Quicktime Conversion from FCE HD 3.5

I have a FCE 3.5 HDV project (16:9 aspect ratio) which I am trying to export using Quicktime Conversion for eventual web-streaming. I have tried various settings including "maintain aspect ratio" and the "letterbox" options. After every multi-hour attempt, the end result is just what I need, except the aspect ratio is always 4:3 and vertically squeezed.
What settings should I use for a small to medium sized version of my movie for streaming on a website, but in the correct aspect ratio? I'd prefer a 16:9 Quicktime frame, or at least a 4:3 Quicktime frame with black bars.

I too have been having some problems, same software. Export to iPod completely ignores the intended aspect ratio and is non-adjustable and squeezes the footage. It looks fine on the canvas but gets messed up on export. A 4:3 video that should be 640x480 ends up being 640x426, and a 16:9 video that should be 640x360 looks to be getting 640x426 as well.
Currently, my work-around is to export to DV file, then export to iPod. Being a double encoding, it is quite wasteful in terms of time and processing power. Is there something else I can do?

  • Trouble with .dwg conversion

When I try to convert a .dwg (CAD) file to a PDF file, I only see a small corner of my original file. The .dwg file is my layout page with multiple drawings on one sheet.
    Any help?

No clue why your computer is acting this way.
Once you reboot the machine, stop using Quicktime conversion. Use Quicktime Export with "current settings". Take that file into Compressor and do your conversion to H.264 there. If you have a MacPro, set up a quick cluster in Qmaster. Things will go faster.

  • Problems with Quicktime Conversion, FCE2

I am having problems using quicktime conversion. I want to export a 4 minute sequence into uncompressed AVI.
Each time i do this i get an almost 4 gb file that is only the first 18 seconds of the sequence. (when i export to WMV I get the same problem, except its 30 seconds)
I can export using compressed AVIs (such as DV-PAL), but the quality is not too good.
I am simply trying to get the best quality and most-universally useable file to write out onto a data DVD.
    Any ideas/suggestions anyone?
I have am using a PowerPC G4 laptop, FCE2, OSX tiger....
Further problems: when i write this movie out to DVD with iDVD, and when it is in NTSC setting, black white lines appear on top of the black background parts in the movie, rather sporadically. I have written it out 3 or 4 times, and each time the frequency of the lines is different, but each DVD is unusable. In PAL setting this doesnt happen, but of course the quality is diminished, as the orig. footage was taken on an NTSC camera. I am in Europe, so this PAL/NTSC conversion thing is a neverending problem.... Is this an iDVD problem or a problem with my laptop's burner?
    Daniel

    Dear Tom,
I appreciate you replying to my post, and am sorry for not getting back to you sooner, but i never received an email notification of a reply.
The Nattress solution seems like a good route - is this compatible with FC Express 2?
The purpose of this AVI export is to have the highest possible quality file in data form, which the (PC using) client will then be able to write out onto DVD, convert/edit himself, etc. I have written out the self-contained QuicktimeMovie data file for him, but he is unable to open that. When i write out the AVI file, it is over 4 times as big as the QTmovie file and only plays for the first 18 seconds.
I am exporting to my internal harddrive (laptop).
The end goal is to get this file eventually onto a PAL-BETA video. This is where the NTSC-PAL conversion problem comes in, and maybe the Nattress program could be the solution (although it initially seems a bit complicated to me).
Another important part of this problem, is that iDVD writes out the original NTSC file with funny white lines going across the black backgrounds - so I cant write the best quality NTSC video onto DVD properly either. Each time I write it out, the frequency of these white lines is different. I dont know if this is a related problem, a Final Cut Express export problem, an iDVD problem, or a problem with my DVD writer. (I made the movie, exported it self-contained QTmov, imported it into a new file, did some color-correction, and exported the new final version. - maybe the problem stems from within this simple process? ? ? )
(Regarding the WMV export: this is not so important, lets not deal with this now. I have flip4mac, downloaded free. My experience is that it doesnt really work.)
    So... any ideas or suggestions?
    i appreciate your help,
    Daniel

  • Having trouble with quicktime. Help please.

A while ago, maybe a few months actually. My quicktime stopped working so i uninstalled it and installed it again. Now whenever I go to a website where I need quicktime to see videos, I only hear the audio (e.g Apple websites, guided tour videos, audio only). What can I do to fix this problem.

These forums can somtimes be helpful, but after a lot of reading in this case, I'm stumped.
No help starting, then quitting GarageBand, no help setting MIDI audio output to 44100 Hz (it was already there), no help reinstalling QT 7.0.4, no help rolling back to QT 7.0.1, no help shutting down all other applications when running QT. OS is current, with no more available updates. The video I edited on this same computer using Quicktime and posted on putfile plays fine on my (gasp) older PC running Windows QT 7.0.4.
As a loyal Macintosh owner since 1984 (my family currently has 7 working Macs, 3 iPods and 1 PC), I have the sinking feeling Apple seems to be becoming less unique and more microsoft like over time. While MS isn't up to the level of Apple yet, the gap seems to be closing. I don't want to know how to change my audio settings, repair permissions or do anything not directly related to the task at hand. I'm getting tired of paying for "upgrades" that aren't, including the new iLife suite and the QT 7 pro key I recently bought.
How do we report this issue? I encourage everyone who is having problems with Quicktime videos stuttering, dropping video or audio to report this so that Apple will be made aware and held responsible.

  • Having trouble with quicktime

I was wondering if anyone had any solutions to not being able to access internet files requiring quicktime, but still being able to play files off the hard drive?

What version of QuickTime are you using?

  • Having trouble with quicktime vids.

I had a subscription to ghost hunters season 3 over itunes, and just recently a few more episodes have come through. I've got a mac and a windows desktop and usually i watch it on one of those, but i have tried to use my laptop before, and it wont work right. I did the thing that makes it so my laptop can view it (because only 5 comps can watch subscription videos), but for some reason it just runs ungodly slow. my laptop is an hp pavilion dv 6000 with a dual core amd running at 2 GHZ per core and 2 gigs of ram. I always use quicktime to play these videos. is there something I can do to speed this up?

Open the QuickTime Control Panel on the "slow" machine and click the Advanced tab.
Switch to "Safe mode" for the video, quit and relaunch QuickTime and try the file again.

  • Having some troubles with Quicktime + ITunes

    Okay.
    The Story...
I don't use itunes or sync my ipod to much, and I like took my library of tinues out, and i planned to reinstall windows all together but I didn't so I tried to uninstall itunes and reinstall and just replace the library. ( wasn't exactly thinking i could just put the library back in and go. This was all done over a period of time. ) Well then everything messed up. I got errors and had to uninstall quicktime as well, finally got it to work and quicktime and itunes installed and when I try to open itunes it crashes right off the bat. I've installed older versions and the newer versions and it's still the same so I'm stuck on what to do, I've tried other methods of trying to fix it and none have worked. I'm kinda thinking my case isn't common. Sorry if this is long.
    Jeff

Silent quicktime failure is much rarer than silent iTunes failure. It has been a while since I encountered it.
It used to be associated with malware infection, so as a first step could you run a virus an spyware scan with up to date definitions.
A second opinion would be a good idea too. The Kaspersky on line scan seems to be good at detecting things but doesn't remove anything:
    http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner
Also check to see that your smart card service is present and not set to disabled. iTunes needs it and it is a quick thing to check.
    Start>>Run>>Services.msc
I am not around until tomorrow now. It is important to be sure you are free of malware before starting troubleshooting as that can interfere with a solution as well as causing the problem.

  • Having loads of trouble with QuickTime....

I am not quite sure how this problem came about but it all started a few days ago. I was upgrading to the newest version of quicktime and the installer asked me to remove the older version of quicktime before i contunued. So i removed it via add/remove programs. So i ran the installer again and it told me that i still had quicktime installed, i looked and i went through and deleted c:\program files\quicktime and any other associated files and then i started getting these error codes:
Error: -1612 The installation source for this product is not available. Verify that the source exists and you can acess it.
Some files could not be created.
Please close all applications, reboot windows and restart this installation.
QuickTime installation failed: Error Code -3
QuickTime failed to initialize (error -2093).
QuickTime is required to run iTunes. PLease reinstall iTunes.
I hve tried to run a system restore but I can only go as far back as the first of this month. Any help on what to do on this situation would be greatly appreciated! I want to be able to use my itunes and quicktime.
    Thanks in advance.

  • TS3772 Trouble with quicktime

I downloaded quicktime after downloading itunes and bought a video off the store.  Got a prompt saying i needed to download quicktime.  Did that and i still get the prompt to download qt in order to play the movie.  Help!!

Can you check something for me please? I'd like to try doing a "Run as administrator" on your iTunes.
    Quit iTunes first.
In Computer, open Local Disk C: or whichever drive you have your program files installed on.
If you have a 32-bit Windows, open the "Program files" folder.
If you have a 64-bit Windows, open the "Program Files (x86)" folder.
    Open the "iTunes" folder.
Right-click on the iTunes.exe file and select "run as administrator".
Try playing the movie now. Does it play for you without the message?

  • Quicktime conversion mpeg2

Okay, I have been in my own little editing world running 10.3.9 with no trouble and for some stupid reason I updated to 10.4 (yeah, yeah, I hear you)
Now, Quicktime is also updated to 7, and then up again.
What I really need is some one to confirm some information as I see lots of discussion about, but it is all confusing.
What happened to the export using quicktime conversion to mpeg2.
It worked great, Faster and better than what compressor could do.
Where is the codec. I do not want to play mpeg2's like the mpeg2 player, I want to take my FCP movie and export via quicktime conversion to an mpeg2 and then put it into DVDstudio Pro.
Been doing it for 2+ years now.
    Does it still exist?
Please, someone give me the bottom line.
    AC

    GONE?
    Can someone tell me why?
As I am sitting here waiting for 10 hours for a 12 minute movie to compress when it will do it with quicktime conversion to mpeg2 in under 30 minutes with the same settings as compressor.
What nard decided to get rid of it? Someone who does not work with video?
I mean come on. We have to deal with the problems of 10.5, why continue back in time to OS 7?
Thanks Mr. Mees for the info. I will now contemplate on reformatting and bringing 10.3.9 back and FCP 4 (HD)--there goes another few days of time. Man it just feels like pre OS 10. Thought we were done with that crud?
But I will never go to the dark side, but it just makes it difficult to convince new users to go to Mac when they see me frustrated or having problems--specifically clients.

  • Multiple problems when exporting 16:9 HDV using Quicktime Conversion

    Hello,
I am trying to export a 41-minute long video so that I can post it online. It is in 16:9 HDV Widescreen format, and the computer I am using is an iMac G5 2.1Ghz PowerPC with 2.5GB of RAM. I've been having the following issues so far:
    1. It doesn't export the entire video when exporting to WMV. It stops after only a few minutes of exporting, and then when I check it to see how it came out, only the first few minutes of my video are there.
    2. When exporting using Quicktime Conversion to being an actual Quicktime file (.mov), it starts but then it stops at 7% and the "Estimated Time" increases from "about 2 minutes", to "about 5 hours"...and then THAT increases a few minutes later to "about 7 hours". I've already increased my memory to 2.5GB (which unfortunately is the most amount that my computer can fit).
    3. So far, for .mov, .divx, .wmv, .m4v, and .mp4, I've been having a lot of trouble trying to figure out the exact settings that I should be using for 16:9 widescreen (dimensions, formats, etc). A lot of times, the video has become 4:3, with the video itself stretched from top to bottom (it looks very weird like that).
Any ideas on what I should do?
    Thanks.

    Hi,
I have the same problem and I can't believe Apple did not think about that. Each time I'm doing a 16:9 movie, it doesn't work with QuickTime conversion.
Read this site, it might help you. I'm gonna try the solution they're talking about.

  • Is it possible to create a new preset for Export/Quicktime Conversion ?

    Hi,
I was wondering if there is a way to make a new export preset for the Export with Quicktime Conversion, in FCE HD 3.5
I am working on preparing a file for YouTube, and finding that some of the video effects render differently when exported, so I am having to render a couple of tests, but with YouTube's new 640x360 16:9 format, there is no easy way to do this other than checking the settings at each export. If one could make a new preset, it would be much easier. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    t

    thankyousir.
I think that Apple could add this, easily, as a feature to what, essentially, is QT Pro, and its embedded brother in FCE. Apple could also release a tiny update for QT including the new YouTube format... I haven't checked if iMovie knows about this new resolution, though it does upload directly to the tube itself.
    Thanks for your time,
    T
