Trouble with textframes from word files

I received yesterday a article written in word. When I open that file in Pages 08, Pages warns that textframes are not supported. I could find such textframes in the header area where the author created page numbers in. My fault is, that I can miss the pagenumbers as I create them new in Pages, but other as Pages warned the pagenumbers created in word in the textframes are still in the pages document and can not removed. I see them only and they are still there when I export that Pages file to PDF. How may I remove such contend in Pages?
A second error is in this file too: All footnotes are marked as endnotes. This should be. But if I mark all endnotes to be as chapterendnotes, there is a small line on top of the first endnote right after the last textline and this small lie comes on top of each page, where the endnotes are. For example, in my case there are about 50 endnotes and they flow over three pages and below the headline but before the first endnote on each page there is the short line. How do I remove the lines?
And another small fault I can see: I select endnotes at the end of document. I do have a headline before of the endnotes like "Annotations" or so. The headline has on top a space of 18 pt and below to the next text a space of 12 pt. In case of using endnotes at the end of document the space below the headline and before the first endnote is missing. The first endnote comes right after the headline. How do I get a space before the endnotes?

  • Trouble with Bookmarks from Word to PDF

    Use Windows 7; Office 2007; Acrobat Pro 9.0.0
    Problem:  Word document has numbered scheme, with blue font to signify a link in resultant pdf.  Set
    Preferences to capture level 1 and 2 for bookmarks in pdf.  Create PDF.  Resultant pdf doesn't hold the blue font from within Word.
    Pdf is all in black.  Bookmarks are sometimes renumbered; i.e. A1, B2, etc. instead of 1., 2., etc.  Bulleted list has different symbol font applied.  Why?

  • Batch create from Word files

    Hi everyone,
    I'm trying to use the batch create multiple files command in Acrobat 10.1.3 to create a pdf from multiple word files but when I try to add the files, all Word files are greyed out.
    Is it possible to batch create from Word files or is that why they're greyed out?
    Appreciate any help.

    In the current version of Acrobat on the Macintosh, Word files are not supported. They are supported in the Windows version. It's been this way for a very long time.

  • Can't create PDF from Word file

    I may be missing some functionality or that functionality may not exist.
    I'm running Acrobat Pro 9.2 and MS Word 2004 (11.5) on OSX Leopard 10.5.8. I want to create a PDF from a Word file but NOT using the Print dialog. I want to either create it in Acrobat using File > Create PDF > From File or create it from within Word using the Acrobat menu/toolbar. This is so that it will end up as a tagged PDF.
    However, I don't have an Acrobat menu or toolbar in Word. I thought Acrobat was supposed to have installed these into MS Office when I installed Acrobat. And when within Acrobat if I select File > Create PDF > From File and choose a Word file, I get a message "Acrobat could not open 'filename.doc' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged". This happens for all Word files.
    Looking in Acrobat > About Adobe Plug-Ins... under Convert2AdobePDF it says 'Loaded: no'.
    Are these two methods of converting Word files to PDFs something that can only be done in the Windows version of Acrobat? Or is there a plug-in or update I can download to install this missing functionality?
    Thanks for your help,
    Mark

    Keep your Office2004. But Office 2008 does have a way to create PDF's from within  the word and excel Programs.
    It works better than through the AdobePDF Printer, or through the Apple Print menus save as PDF. (Unless you have X.6.x Snow leopard)
    One thing it gets around is a long standing Problem Acrobat has had with word and excel since Word 6.0.1.a/Excel 5.0.1a. Acrobat doesn't know how to interpert Word Page section Breaks. Chopping up a word/excel document in to multiple PDFs that have to be merged back together. MS came up with their own PDF Converter that gets around that problem.

  • Way to save MS Word file as a PDF with original MS Word file date?

    For archiving purposes, I'm betting PDFs will be readable (backwards compatible) long after my current file saved in Microsoft Word becomes out of date. Anyone know of a way I can save my Word file as a PDF while retaining the original Word file last-modified date (for patent protection reasons to prove date of authorship)? (or Word to text file or ASCII file would also be equivalent as long as original date is kept)

    I doubt that a computer date would suffice for legal proof of date. It is easily changed for those that know their way around the computer. I would have to play a bit, but could probably do it without too much trouble. About the only way to satisfy the need for a patent is to properly insert the pages in a patent notebook and get the information notorized. From what I have seen, the legal profession generally requires hard copy, not a computer file. A loose-leaf form is also typically not acceptable, but a bound notebook properly annotated. The notorized aspect is a way around some of this I think. In any case, it sounds like you need to consult a patent attorney.

  • Trouble With Links to Network Files Within Online PDF

    I posted this at the end of someone else's thread who had a similar problem but it may have gotten lost in the shuffle. Either that or no one has an answer. Here goes...
    I create a Word document that contains links to network files (tested and working) and convert the document to a PDF. The links still function in the PDF when I test them. However, when someone opens the document from our intranet, the file:/// is replaced with some form of a relative link, either to a users C: drive or to an http:// directory. If I then go into the PDF and change the link action from Open File to Open Web Link and provide the full file:/// path, everything works as intended. This really wouldnt be a big deal if I was the one maintaining the document or if it were an occasional thing. The problem is that updating or adding a link to the document means correcting the existing links all over again. This is very cumbersome for the user who maintains the document.
    I'm using Acrobat 8 Professional. Any ideas?

    I'm having a similiar issue with cross platform (Vista to Mac OS X 10.5) file linking. We currently store indesign files on a folder in a shared drive (the mac unix path to the drive is /Volumes/SharedDrive and the vista path is Z:\) and link assets in the document to another folder stored on the shared drive. Note that all linked assets are not stored in the same location on the shared drive, for instance a linked image could be deep in the folder structure (/Volumes/SharedDrive/Marketing/Images/Fall09/example.jpg).
    The Vista computer references files differently than the mac on the shared drive, it seems to mount the network drive directly on the root level rather than in the /Volumes folder. I've tried to symlink the graphics folder (the one containing all the linked assets) to the root level of the hard drive (ln -s /Volumes/SharedDrive/Graphics /Graphics) but when we tried relinking the assets InDesign figured out it was a symlink and resolved the path to the absolute path. Is there some sort of configuration option in mac to mount this windows drive (it is on SBS Windows 2003) in a way that won't cause linking conflicts between mac and pc? Any thoughts are much appreciated!
    Thank you for all your help!

  • Updating index from Word file in Book feature

    I prepared a book using the book feature. 15 chapter files making up the book. The client is going to supply the Index as a Word file with page numbers from his book's word file, which I was hoping to spill into a file in the book and Update the page numbers. I have done this when the book is all one file, but will it work in the book feature? Also, what if a thread is broken somewhere (there were lots of photographs and I think that may have happened a few times). Will that effect the indexes ability to update the page numbers (provided it even works in the Book feature)?
    Thanks!

    Little Toddler wrote:

    That's No Good. The page numbers as they were in the original Word file are worthless.
    .. which I was hoping to spill into a file in the book and Update the page numbers.
    InDesign cannot update the page numbers in an index that was created with Word.
    I have done this when the book is all one file, but will it work in the book feature?
    Uh. Perhaps you did not (see above). Only if you made this index entirely in InDesign is when that's possible. (But yeah, "Include Book" is an option in the Generate Index dialog.)
    Also, what if a thread is broken somewhere (there were lots of photographs and I think that may have happened a few times). Will that effect the indexes ability to update the page numbers (provided it even works in the Book feature)?
    Proper or improper threading is not a problem.
    The problem is you must distinguish between an index made in Word and one made in InDesign -- and I mean "made with", not just "typed in". If your writer supplies you an index made in Word, you can throw it out of the window. What good are his page numbers to you? You can only mimick his index (sort of) if your processed InDesign files still contain the original Index Markers that the author used in Word, and then you are using the same workflow, not "updating the author's index".
    If there are no index markers in your InDesign files, that's where it stops for you. Perhaps you want to insert them, one by one, in their original location (using the supplied index as a guide) -- only then you can create an up-to-date index with InDesign and using your page numbers.
    There is another option: if your author used Word's features to generate the index with, he could try the opposite. That is, you hand him a PDF of the latest version of your book, and he inserts page breaks and adjusts page numbering in his Word document to match yours, word by word. This can be done quite fast because all other formatting is not important -- it's the What's on this Page Number that counts. When done, the author can use Word again to re-generate the index, and hey! the page numbers will match the final version!
    Of course this only works when the author actually used Word's native indexing facility -- if he typed in each entry and its associated page numbers, you got yourself quite a job trying to find what word went where in your version.

    Hello Peter,
    I'm not sure whether this is a listener related problem, but we should try to find out.
    I have examples where a temporary blob is created first before the content is passed to WPG_DOCLOAD, which produce a working download on the APEX Listener.
    So I don't think the problem concerns WPG_DOCLOAD but the way you handle your blob, or to be precise, your BFILE.
    What comes to my mind first: Don't you need to open that file? When I use DMBS_LOB.LOADBLOBFROMFILE, I guess this is done somewhere inside that routine, but for other kinds of bfile access, there is DBMS_LOB.FILEOPEN.
    When thinking of that part: If I'm not completely wrong, there is a difference in which db user is acutally executing, or in other words, on whose behalf your code is executed, when you create a temporary blob first and forward it to wpg_docload or have wpg_docload do the file access. The Null Pointer Exception may result from either the file not being existent or not accessible for the db user executing the code. In case of wpg_docload accessing the file, perhaps the user you configured your APEX Listener to connect with needs additional grants for that file access.
    Just a thought. It should be easy to test the same scenario with using a temporary file on APEX Listener to see if that works and start debugging from there.

  • My Macbook with 10.6.8 is having trouble with certain applications- Word will not open, and text edit or pdf will not print.

    My Macbook (13 inch 2008) running OS 10.6.8 is having trouble with some applications.  Word will not even open.  I cannot print from text edit or Preview or Adobe.  Excel sometimes opens but very slow.  What could be wrong?  I have repaired permissions, used an antivirus program, deleted some old MS fonts, and still no change.  I have 1 G RAM and there seems to be plenty available and I have 50 G of hard drive space empty.

    Well, first 1gb of Ram is not plenty. It's the absolute bare minimum just to run OS X 10.6.8. The MS Office applications are ram hogs also. I would recommend three things.
    1. Get more ram.
    2. Reinstall and update your MS Office applications.
    3. Reinstall Snow Leopard.
    If you're not familiar with Activity Monitor you might have a look at this link and you'll be able to judge your ram situation a little better.

  • Help with inputting from text file.

    Okay, been struggling with this for a couple days and I could really use some help.
    I need to input text one line at a time into String[] text, I'm reading from a file called "textfile.txt" and I want to store the result
    String[] text = { first_line, second_line, third_line, fourth_line...........etc}
    This works now:
    //code
    String[] test =
         { "1 2, 3 4, 5 6"
         for (int i = 0; i < test.length; i++) {
         Graph g = new Graph(test);
    // end code
    But that of course reads "1 2, 3 4, 5 6" from the code, and not from a text file. My StringTokenizer looks for a "," and makes that the end of the token, so I need to add a "," after each line as well.
    In other words, I need to turn the text file :
    "1 2
    3 4
    5 6"
    into :
    "1 2, 3 4, 5 6"
    These are just numbers to test of course, the real text file I need to input has hundreds of lines.
    Any help would be appreciated, thank you.

    I'm fairly lost. I understand that you need to read a file, and that file contains many lines which each contain a pair of numbers. But then you say (a) that you need to create an array of Strings and (b) that you need to store the result. And there's this mysterious StringTokenizer in there as well. You seem to be suggesting some solution that concatenates all the lines together, with commas between them, so that the StringTokenizer can then go through that concatenation and break it apart into the original pieces.
    Okay, here's some code that reads through a file and makes an array of Strings, one entry per line:BufferedReader in = new BufferedReader(new FileReader("textfile.txt"));
    String data = null;
    List inputs = new ArrayList();
    while ((data = in.readLine()) != null) {
      inputs.add(data);
    in.close();
    String[] lines = new String[0];
    lines = (String[]) inputs.toArray(lines);Untested, and exception handling and so forth omitted. I leave it to you to decide what to do with that array of Strings.

  • Importing text from Word file while keeping formatting

    I have text set up to convert to Goudy Oldstyle. When I try to import formatted text from a Word file, the italics don't translate to Goudy Oldstyle italic. It becomes Goudy Italic and then reads as a conflict. How would I be able to reformat just the italics?

    Find Font is also in CS2 (Type > Find Font). Very easy, very simple.
    In CS2, Find Font doesn't have the same Redefine Style functionality
    that it does in CS3, but you can still find a missing font or font
    variant and replace it with something that's not missing. You would have
    to redefine styles manually, but you can use Find Font to figure out
    which styles need redefining. (That is, if you've used styles; we don't
    know yet because you haven't said.)

    It gives an error after I unzip the file.
    Are they not compatible with 5.1??

    When you download an example from the NI homepage please always have a look at the "Software Requirements" section. Here you will find the version of the development environment the example was compiled with.
    Many examples are compiled with LV 6.x or LV 7.x thus it's probable that you can't open them with LV 5.x
