Troubleshooting a new WRV54G

Friends -
I am a comcast cablemodem subscriber, and recently upgraded some of my hardware, including a new Motorola modem, which (I think) is working fine, and a new Linksys WRV54G Wireless Router, which doesn't seem to be working fine. The Linksys is talking to two wireless laptops and three desktops, all running Windows XP with SP2 and up to date on all security & patches.
The issue I am experiencing is sporadic internet connectivity on two of the three desktops, despite a live connection to the LAN being shown by the OS.  
The wireless laptops have no trouble with internet access through the new router, however, two of my three desktops which are connected to the router via standard 10-base-T ethernet cable are having sporadic internet connectivity. The desktop through which the router was installed never has any difficulty with its internet connection. Swapping the 3 cables among the 4 ports on the router doesn't make any difference. All of the default settings were taken with the router's installation (no domain/host indicated), and DHCP for assignment of IP/DNS addresses. Installation was successful.  All three of the desktops show a live connection to the LAN at 100 Mbs, even when the two affected desktops can't access the internet. The phenomenon is the same for Netscape, Mozilla, and IE browsers. The TC/PIP settings on each of the desktops are set for "auto" when obtaining the IP and DNS addresses. Comcast will not provide a static IP address to use for the DNS setting, and says that their policy is to let DHCP assign the addresses. 
The cables and ethernet cards in the desktops are all brand new. Hardware drivers are all up to date. If I reinstall the router, all three desktops (temporarily) have a successful internet connection. Don't know if this matters, but the lack of an internet connection phenomenon always seems to happen after one or both of the two affected desktops come out of a hibernation period. When I run ipconfig from the DOS command line for any of the three desktops, no DNS address is indicated, however the IP Address, Default Gateway, and Subnet Mask settings are fine. The IP addresses being assigned by the router to the three desktops are 192.168.1.100, 192.168.1.101, and 192.168.1.102. "Ipconfig /release" followed by "ipconfig /renew" doesn't help, nor does trying to repair the LAN connection from the network icon of the control panel.   I can't successfully ping to or from the two desktops when the internet connection has dropped off.  Rebooting the computers doesn't help, nor does powering down and powering up the modem and/or the router. I'm about at my wits end with this nonsense.  Can anyone offer any other suggestions short of returning the router for a new one?   I have not run the firmware upgrade - could this help?  Should I try installing the router from one of the other desktops and see what happens? Something else maybe?

Hi , frankly i suspect the 2 systems since the other PC when connected to the same ports work fine....
well here are a few things you can try on each of the faulty ones...
at the command prompt, run the following command and then restart each PC
a:- "netsh winsock reset catalog"    .....this will reset the TCP/IP stack of the comps..
b:- hit "start">>"run">> services.msc -- look for DHCP client and restart the service on each PC
c:- for the NIC speed to 10Mbps half duplex ....from the control panel got o network connections.....right click on the local area connection and hiot properties....click on "configure" and thenh go to the advanced tab......look for link speed/duplex and change the value to 10Mbps half.
d:- if none of the above options work...try and re-insatll the drivers of your NIC's on each PC .

  • Troubleshooting my new build

    Hello all, I just built a system with: i7 3930k, Cruicial m4 128 ssd, Gtx 570, asus p9x79 pro, gskill 1866 32gb and areca 1223 raid 3.
    I've also installed the latest drivers for each from their respective websites.  However, i'm getting sporadic display driver not responded then recovered messages where the screen goes black and comes back to life.  In addition, I'm getting random freezes where the computer screen goes to black and can only be revived through pressing the power button.
    Any suggestions on how to stabilize my system?  I saw a thread about not havin the correct voltage ram, would this be the case?  I actually chose the above ram based on the videoguys recommended system.

    Thanks, yah eventually the BIOS came around after I reseated the gtx 570.
    An update:  I went back and forth with EVGA customer service and after a couple of hours of their suggestions, my system seems stable... it hasn't froze.. yet... i got a couple of display driver not responding then recovering...
    Here are some of the things I did that got me sort of stable (for now): 
    - replaced my gskill 1866 1.5v RAM with the Samsung 1.35v ddr3 1600
    - as suggested by EVGA tech support (who by the way answered daily):  Reseat my gtx 570 in a difference Pci-e slot.  check to see if the +12V was between 11.4-12.6 and stable (no fluctuations greater than .05), run a stress test with OC Scanner..
    after those things didnt work... EVGA sent me the following, which I did, and has gotten me to my current state:
    This can be caused by a faulty/corrupted driver or possible hardware issue. I would recommend doing a reload of the driver by using driver sweeper. This can be found by going to: http://phyxion.net/Driver-Sweeper/Driver-Sweeper/Version-3-2-0/.
    1)  Run through the normal uninstall process through Programs and Features.
    2)  Reboot and go into Safemode.  This is done by pressing F8 prior to the windows splash screen.
    3)  Once in Safemode, goto My Computer, under C drive, there is in NVidia folder, delete it.  Then empty the recycle bin.
    4)  Run driver sweeper.  Select Analyze and Clean, click NVidia Display and NVidia PhysX, if this system ever had a ATI/AMD card i it also select AMD Display.  In the lower right corner, click "Clean".
    5)  Once done, click on Analyze and Clean again in the left menu, select the same check boxes as before, then at the bottom middle, click Analyze.  If files show up, you can either delete them manually or run the clean again.
    6)  Boot reboot back into normal mode and run the installer, going through Custom and Perform Clean Install like you did originally.  When done reboot and retest.
    Hope this info helps anyone in a similar situation

  • Please help - Brand new 8831 conf phone won't boot

    Not sure how to troubleshoot these new phones, but when I power the phone via wall power (power cube) or 48v POE, the phone LEDs stay on for a second or two then go out, and then the phone does nothing.  No display or additional blinking lights - nothing.  At first I thought it was a bad power cube, so I tested on a working POE, and nothing.  I'm wondering if this was shipped DOA or what.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

  • Pathetic customer support on new computer - won't buy Toshiba again

    As an IT professional, I find Toshiba's phone support pathetic.   Extended wait times, even when answered by a tech, without rational resolution.
    I purchased an All-in-One PX35T, receiving it 3 days ago.  Windows Update for Windows 8 kept crashing it, requiring a reset, wiping all the setup work.  I called Tech Suppor twho informed me first that the first call was free and I'd be charged $40 for subsequent calls and wouldn't I like to pay $140 for another year of 'free' support.   When I questioned this, they then backed down and told me the first 90 days were free support.   I read the specifications that says there is 1 year of limited support. Of course it doesn't say what kind of support.   I'm coming to the conclusion that 'limited' means 'pretty limited'.
    After being bounced around over several calls then finally to a supervisor, I was informed it was Microsoft's problem and that Toshiba recommends installing one update at a time.  There were over 120 updates pending.  Time invested 4 hours with Toshiba Tech support, not counting the many hours doing reset at their direction.  During the many lengthy wait times, their on-hold announcement included "Toshiba supports software that is installed on our computers"
    Once I then worked for 3 hours with Microsoft to resolve the issue and got the PC stabilized, I found that the bundled Norton Antivirus needed activation for the one year subscription that came with the computer (  http://support.toshiba.com/support/staticContentDe​tail?contentId=4002052&isFromTOCLink=false ) and Toshiba Tech Support, once again bounced around 4 times over the span of 2 hours of hold, first telling me that it wasn't included, then ending with the explanation is that either the vendor was supposed to put a card with the activation code in the box or Toshiba was supposed to.   The suggested solution was to send the computer unit back to the vendor and have them ship a new one because they were unable to get a keycode from another department within Toshiba.  All this for a antivirus subscription worth perhaps $60.  Needless to say, this was unacceptable and quite frankly, a very stupid suggestion on their part.
    Time spent troubleshooting a new computer 18 hours over 3 days.  Setup time lost besides is 4 hours.  Really.   Maybe they pay their foreign call center works peanuts because it also occupied their time.
    I've owned and supported a number of Toshiba computers, but something is wrong with a company that doesn't put their customers first, particularly on a new purchase.    Good customers are hard to get and easy to lose.    They are losing me for any further purchases of mine or for others that I'm asked to recommend.

  • WRV54G using HP's RDP and PXE

    I have a WRV54G that replaced an older Linksys Product.  All my devices on my LAN get DHCP address but two (they are serves).  On my LAN I use a product from HP called RDP (Altiris Deployment Solution).  What this allows is PC’s can PXE boot using the NIC and I can use HP RDP to push OS’s / Applications to them.  With this new WRV54G when a PC tries to PXE boot it fails to get an IP from this device and fails.  But my entire Window based PC’s get a DHCP address from this device when they boot.  Any idea why when a NIC tries to PXE (broadcast for a DHCP IP, at the NIC level) it fails to get an address?  Is there an option in the setup that needs to be enabled for this to work?  BTW one the device gets the IP it then broadcasts for a PXE server which I have on the LAN.  Also again my older Linksys made all this work just fine.

    I have the DHCP enabled and all the systems with OS's loaded get one of 100 address in the pool.  ( I only have 10 systems on line)  The one's that I PXE or NIC boot will not get a DHCP address they broadcast for one, but none is given.  I still have lots of address left and have a short lease duration.  I can see the network traffic (somewhat) and see the DHCP request, but I don't see the reply.  Is there some option that may have to do with BOOTP or some thing like that???

  • Teststand step to call a new instance of Teststand environment

    I'm trying to create a troubleshooting step and I would like this step to be able to open a new instance of the Test Stand environment. If the troubleshooting step is encountered, i would want the current sequence to pause execution, open a new Test Stand sequence that will allow the engineer to perform troubleshooting steps from a parallel TestStand window, and when the troubleshooting test stand environment is closed to return to the calling sequence.

    Hello Daniel,
    I think your best bet would be to just have the steps break on failure so you can then troubleshoot from within TestStand. If you open a new instance of TestStand you will not really be able to troubleshoot the sequence you just ran, it will be troubleshooting a new sequence.

    I find the Print Quality Troubleshooting page confusing. It does not address misalignment. The test pages you get when you press the green button for 2-3 seconds clearly shows misalignment of the magenta cartridge but when replaced with a HP cartridge the exact same misalignment occurs.
    I also tried using high grade paper with no change.
    HPPDU.exe was run and showed no conflicts.
    I updated my printer firmware HPCP1210_FW_Update-20100201.exe

  • SAP Business One Integration Services Authentication Failed

    ALL SAP forum members,
    Iam Using SAP Business One 8.81 PL 06, Micorsoft SQL 2008 R2
    In SLD B1DI and  JDBC, the connections were tested successfully.
    Whenever I log into SBO, I am getting "SAP Business One Integration Services Authentication Failed" error message. I did extensive research on all possible SBO documents dating 1 year back especially in B1ic Troubleshooting Document (New and Old) and searched the length of the SBO forums, but I could not a solution.
    I uninstalled and reinstalled the B1f package many a time. The integration services we re also restarted many times and the connections were all tested successfully. Firewall, AntiVirus also checked.
    In the B1f, in the Monitoring Window, the login is "Ok" but the AuthCheck is "Failed". I checked Authent.Monitor->Authentic Info  and I found the following message under Action message "Wrong Usrname and Password".
    I debugged and i found again "/com.sap.b1i.vplatform.scenarios.authen/sap.Xcelsius/Authenticate_Check.bfd
    But could not understand much of it.
    But i could go no further. The experts are requested to suggest their solutions, If any, to me as Iam stuck in this phase for the last 3 week
    I hope some experts will guide me over this issue

    And frankly speaking i dont know how it was solved. I have not uninstall, install ,not even i had restarted the server also.
    only change i did in SLD >> Maintainance >>> cfg Runtime >>>> Put server IP address instead of server Name and restarted the services.

  • Cannot connect to store

    I am helping a friend troubleshoot their new Itunes connection.
    Windows 7 x64 with Itunes 10.6.1
    Bascially, Itunes will not connect to the store. Can't therefore sign up for a new account.
    Have gone through all reasonable networking troubleshooting, including checking for server certificate revocation checks. Nothing doing.
    IE and Chrome both work fine on http and https
    DNS checks have been done. albert.apple.com down, but all other mentioned addresses seem to ping.
    Oddly, the apple itunes help doesn't load - indicates that we are not connected to the internet.
    I have also tried disabling ipv6
    also - the 64 bit version of itunes wants to install in the (x64) area of program files. Am going to attempt a reinstall (Again) in the 64 bit area.
    this is a very strange problem. Never seen this before.
    any suggestions (other than the obvious! ;-) ?

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
    (Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 & above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
    In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
    If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
    Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
    If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

  • The song titles are displayed incorrectly, how do I fix this?

    Ever since an update of itunes a couple of months ago, the titles have been displayed incorrectly in my library. I listen to a lot of Chinese, Korean, and Japanese music and after the update the information turned into squares. I went online and tried the much given solution of converting the id3 tags. This resulted in all my songs (even the english ones) turning to Chinese script when I reversed unicode, which was solved by reversing it again. However after trying all the id3 versions I am now left with a part of my songs being displayed as ?????? and with the other, largest part having the correct names but with the symbol Ƞ spread throughout the titles, which is annoying to say the least.
    Other programmes on my computer display the different scripts just fine, and I have Japanese and Korean installed so as to be able to write it. The songs are also still displayed correctly if I acces them in their folders.
    I am kind of losing hope after trying to find a solution on the internet for a while now, and have even re-installed itunes completely, to no avail.
    If anyone has any suggestions or possible solutions, I'd be very grateful.

    Sounds like you have been on the right track with regard to troubleshooting this issue. It may be worth going over the font troubleshooting in the following article, just to double check (it refers to a previous version of iTunes, but the troubleshooting steps should be similar).

  • Why can't I print 11x17 on my HP Officejet 7612? Windows 8

    Hello All, I have been trying for DAYS to print 11x17 on my new HP Officejet 7612 Wide Format Printer and to NO avail. I have uninstalled and reinstalled driver after driver and nothing has worked. I have seen on other posts that others with Windows 8 are experiencing the same issue.                               When on the print screen, 8.5x13 is the largest it will allow me to print. Others have had the same issue. (See Link Below)

    Hello JessTandi, Welcome to the HP Forums.  I see that you are having an issue when attempting to print on 11x17 paper. What is the software or printing program you are using when attempting to print on this size?  Please make sure the size is set in the software and on the printing preferences. We can run the HP Print and Scan Doctor just in case there is an issue with the software. Please feel free to write me back if you have any other questions.   Cheers,

    me doubt is this job is running or not.If yes mean when it will be completed.If no mean what is the next soluttion??

    To improve the data section for the object X_EKUB we have below options -
    1. Create a secondary index on the table EKUB in the sender system with below fields-
       MANDT
       EBELN
    2. Exclude the migration object X_EKUB from the current transfer using the troubleshooter 'Exclude Migration Objects from Current Transfer '.
       Now use the troubleshooter 'Create New Flat Migration Objects ' and create a new object for the table EKUB. This will select and transfer all data for the table EKUB.
    In most cases EKUB has not much data so it should be okay to copy this table in full and would be very fast.

    Absolutely.
    Oracle Application server is a sophiscated software that requires a good administrator to handle instances after creation. Day to day support and maintenance, troubleshooting, deploying new applications that are served by the application server, backup and recovery, clustering, upgradation, migration, cloning are all required.
    So defenetly yes, there needs to be a dedicated resource for maintaining the Application Server. Typically this is a job function of "Oracle Apps DBA"

  • Flash/Shockwave Relationship

    Our organization approves Flash 8 as a standard for some
    training development. We have the Flash 8 player on our desktops
    and users may not install anything higher.
    We recently had some issues with Flash elements that did not
    display correctly on all desktops. They were (so the Vendor says)
    developed in Flash 8. If you go to the Windows Control Panel and
    look at the software list (Add/Remove Programs) it shows Flash 8
    installed. If you go to adobe.com/products/flash/about it reports
    Flash 6. If you then install Shockwave 10, the file displays
    properly and the adobe.com/products/flash/about page now reports
    Flash 8.
    What has happened? IS Shockwave 10 considered an integral
    part of Flash 8? Did the developer use extensions that go beyond

    I just had this problem happen and this is what i did to solve it.
    1. I downloaded CCleaner from the App store (free) and ran the cleaner to erase unnecessary files.
    2. Update JAVA. www.java.com
    3. Open Chrome and went to Settings , scroll to nottom and choose advanced settings, privacy, conmtent settings: make sure "allow local data to be set (recommended)" is chosen, then click on "Cookies and site data" and choose "remove all". IMPORTANT: now click on "Disable individual plug-ins..." in the Plug-ins section.
    4. A new window will appear. Scroll down to Flash Player and review your flash player (shockwave) installations. disable all versions. CLOSE all windows. Restart Chrome.
    5. go to THIS link to MANUALLY choose your version of Shockwave:             http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/otherversions/
    6. Under Step 1 Choose your OS and under Step 2 choose the most recent version of shockwave (Ver 12.*.*)
    7. OPEN the pkg. and choose Shockwave_Uninstaller.app to remove previous versions.
    *. When complete, go back and nbow choose Shockwave_Installer_Full.app
    7. after installation if your problems persist, you have other issuea that may be the culprit and must do advanced troubleshooting. I will post "advanced Troubleshooting" in new reply.

  • TS3048 Right click on Mighty Mouse and Wireless Keyboard are not working

    I have a 24" iMac, early 2009  Lion,10.7.5.  My wireless keyboard and mighty mouse are not working properly. Wireless keyboard- I can turn it on and it will ask me to pair it with the Blue Tooth.  I cannot log the numbers in - I even tried logging them in with my wired keyboard device (which is an Apple keyboard).
    My Mighty Mouse's right click stopped working as well. 
    I have gone through all of the troubleshooting steps-
    New Batteries - Cleared Blue tooth preferences list, repaired permissions, Cleared cache, Made sure that the settings were correct ex: key was not checked on mouse, Removed both devises (keyboard, and mouse) from blue tooth and allowed them to be discovered again, PRAM reset, Hardware check/ reset, and lastly, Reinstall of OSX.
    I am still having the same issue with both devices.

    This is why you should always have a wired keyboard and mouse as backups.
    Try smc and hope for the best.
    I'd also suggest pram reset but you need the keyboard for that.
