Truncate hanging

Hi,
We have a nightly process that truncates a table with roughly a million records. This normally takes a couple of minutes to do, but, recently, on one night a week, the truncate is hanging for 4 hours or more. I kill the session, and run the stored procedure again and it truncates the table within minutes and continues with the stored procedure. Does anybody have any ideas on why this would happen.
Environment is Oracle 10.2.0.4
Thanks,
Mark

18:26:52 ERR REP-1425: 'afterpform': Error running DO_SQL package - 'Error parsing the SQL statement.

When i checked with the Oracle 8.1.7 database it is working fine.
is there any patches are requried at database side ?
Can any body help me in this.

First: you should get a new keyboard. Seems your shift-key is stuck.
Second: A header of a post is a header and not for a summary of your question
Third: This is the forum for the tool SQL Developer. Please mark this question as answered and post again in Forms
Forth: When you expect an answer, the least would be to include the errormessage and your forms version.

  • WebLogic 10.3.2.0 hanging at startup after "The server log file is opened."

    Hi,
A WebLogic 10.3.2.0 server is hanging at startup. There are no error messages. The last command in the startup window is:
"The server log file <log file dest> is opened. All server side log events will be written to this file."
I think the next line should be:
"Security initializing using security realm realm."
Any ideas on what could be the issue? For instance what resources should be accessed at that point of time? There is sufficient space left on the (virtual machine) disk. The VM configured with 8GB memory. Could it be performance related still?

It read the table DFS_STAGE.web_kenshoo_history for about 30 minutes (100% according to my 2nd query), now no longer shows up in v$session_longops. I have verified there are no locks with:
    SELECT
    s1.username || '@' || s1.machine ||
    ' ( SID=' || s1.sid || ' )  is blocking '
    || s2.username || '@' || s2.machine || ' ( SID=' || s2.sid || ' ) ' AS
    blocking_status

    WHERE
    s1.sid=l1.sid and s2.sid=l2.sid
    AND l1.BLOCK=1 and l2.request > 0
    AND l1.id1 = l2.id1
    AND l2.id2 = l2.id2
System load is not too high:
    11:28:53 up 22 days,  7:04,  1 user,  load average: 3.00, 3.01, 2.92
Nothing out of the ordinary in the alert.log.
I am stumped. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Is this a new application on this database?
Has it run well in the past?
I have had this happen before on a 32bit Windows server. Our problem was a poorly written procedure that kept pegging the cpu to 100%. You should be able to figure out what SQL is being used that is causing this problem, it will be the Top Working SQL most likely.
I also had this problem on a Logical Standby server which was trying to apply SQL to the SYS.AUD$ table. As soon as SQL Apply was started, the CPU went to 100%. Once I truncated that table, the cpu usage went back to normal. Not sure what you are using to monitor your database but if you can, try to find out what SQL is running when your CPU goes to 100%.

  • DocumentBuilder.parse() hangs (net access?)

I have trouble getting the following lines of code to work. It works on my dev machine, but not in the live env.

    DocumentBuilder db = dbf.newDocumentBuilder();
Document d = db.parse(src); It hangs with the last last line, eventually resulting in this exception (truncated):

Try calling DocumentBuilder.setEntityResolver() with a custom EntityResolver which redirects the dtd url to a local file.

  • Oracle 10g (10.2.0.4) Database apparent hang

    Hi All,
We have an installation in which three database cooperate to give functionality for our 24x7 banking application. One database is used as a read-only reference database and is only read after it has been recreated (via import/export). The alert log shows this:

Ask Tom and Burlesson refer to memory issues. Earlier in the month/late last month I found that a permission error was to blame on 10g installations on AIX (our installation is on AIX 5.3 ML8) -- I've checked and the external jobs controller permissions are correct, yet I'm still faced with this strange hang. The database is in no archive log mode, and not being shutdown at the time -- there is a massive truncate and import running at the time to re-create the database. This is what hangs and prompts the operators to call. The exact same process has been followed for the last two years without issues. It's only in the last week that this has been occurring. At first I thought it was the go-love on 6 April 2010 but we only started experiencing this apparent hang (cannot log in using SQL*Plus either as sys as sysdba or using OS authentication). Killing the pmon process and restarting the DB works and shows no sign of problems. I'm just frustrated as to the lack of error messages in the alert log when this happens and how to stop this from happening again.
If anyone needs more information kindly post your question and I will answer as soon as I can. Your help and cooperation in this matter is appreciated.
    Kind Regards,
    Andries Burger

I've updated the processes in the database and increased the sessions. I've done some investigatio into the number of processes and sessions used by our 'off the shelve' product and the numbers are considerably different from what the vendor claimed. Our usual pattern has been a hang then one 36 hour period of processing without issues, then another hang. Since posting this - I restarted the DB that same hour - we've had a peacefull 24 hour period, so if the process and session increase did not help, I'll be looking at another support call from operations in the next nine hours. I however this has fixed the problem, or at least this symptom, I'll mark this as having solved the question.
Another aspect I've left off. The application makes use of three database (this problematic one being one) and a number os public synonyms to tables stored in one of the other databases. How do I determine the number of 'sessions' that would flow over a dblink and/or a synonym? Sessions connecting from outside can be more than one session on a physical connection - would the same hold true for dblinks and synonyms? (If that is the case I might have to increase the sessions some more than where they are at present.
    Kind Regards,
    AB

    Hi,
These hangs that mention "URL Cache" in the reports tend to be fixed by clearing out some of the system level caches (some of these are still user specific, despite living under the /System folder).
To give that area a clean, download [Onyx|http://www.titanium.free.fr/pgs/english.html] and use the settings shown in the screenshot of the appropriate version for your OS X.
    Good luck!

  • After table partition, some transactions hang

I am running SAP 4.6 and Oracle 10.2
I recently used online reorg to partition table DFKKOP (over 100 million records) into two parts.  One partition was for "closed" orders, and the other was for "open" orders (less than 2% of the rows).
Since most of the queries against this table were against open orders, access times improved dramatically (one query went from 20 minutes to 20 seconds).
Unfortunately, while it was on a test system, our developers discovered that this caused transactions FPL9 and CIC0 to hang.  To prove that it was the partition causing the hang, we used our "snapback" ability to return the database to the point in time prior to the partition (we did this twice), and the problem disappeared.  Other than these hangs, the database seemed to work normally.
Does anyone have an idea why this might be happening?  BTW - I had "row movement enabled", so that's not it.  I have found nothing in SAP notes or on this forum.
    Thanks.

    Hi Sandeep,
Partitioning is a really cool feature - but it must be valued against your primary goal you want to achieve.
it has an influence WICH partitioning method you have to use AND wich partitioning keys you have to find.
If you see it like a triangle you can have these goals:
                                   Performance
         Administration                                  Availability
you will hardly achieve all three (wich means you generate some overhead for the other goals).
It may that you are in a corner of one goal - see the location of (*)
Our goal was improve write performance (in the 1st place):
We did it on a SAP BW system on our own Z tables wich were growing bigger and bigger ( several hundreds of GBytes). As we debugged how BW itself managed the partitions we used this and a little ABAP to maintain the partitions for our own tables.
Our's was range partitioning with an  Identifier (INT4) used as a sequence to flagg present and historical calculations as a partition key. We could now TRUNCATE the partitions instead of  DELETE (the UNDO generation blew up our batch time window for computations of figures).
And yes we benefit from partion pruning - as far you had a lot of full table scans wich are now turned into partition scans. Index accesses benefit not that muxch from paritioning -  but it reallly depends on your application HOW it uses the data.
All your queries should  use  the partition key as a criteria (in your case FISCYEAR) - otherwise you make things worse.
Be aware that you have to use the right data type (imagine a range partiton on a Varchar2 column
like the NUMBER data type in SAP tables) and evaluate it carefully against the partiton type you choose.
There are some pitfalls like moving partition keys (wich you have to avoid ).
There is the overhead of creating / dropping/ merging partitions and who is responsible for it (in our case
the application and not an SAP admin).
    Maintain all indexes as local
You can use BRSPACE to partition the table , with your 40 Gybte SE14 could be also used as you can define the partitions (hopefully you are at least on a 6.20 system).
For our system it was essential
    1) to fully understand the concept of partitioining (seems obvious, but guess where things most fail)
2 that it is supported by standard SAP tools (as in SE14 or BRSPACE)
    3) to write an interface to handle the partitioning without involving a DBA
(imagine you have a process chain that uses your partition table and you have to provide a new partition while running the chain).
We run it now for more than a year and it was a good decision to move to partitioning.
Now we will extend the feature and use it for archivals on a partition basis.
    Bye

Now, the MacBook Pro is detecting your MacBook's hard drive as an external drive, so you can do whatever you want. Migration Assistant will bring you the option to migrate from another hard drive, so it will detect your MacBook's hard drive and it will migrate your files from here. The same if you are trying to migrate the data from Setup Assistant.

  • EVDRE: INPUT TEMPLATE HANGING

Just wanted to see if anyone has a clue as to why my input schedule is hanging.  I've tried multiple things please see below:
    1.  I've truncated the LCKFINANCE table to clear of any locks
    2.  Restarted the login credentials in SAP Server Manager
    3.  Restarted the SendGoverner Services
    4.  did an IIS restart
Not sure why this is happening but can anyone help?

    Hi,
Did you at leat light optimized your application, in order not to have more than 20'000 records into the ROLAP table called tblFactWB<app>?
Hanging problems when sending data could also come from there.
    Hope it will help.

  • OWB10gR2 Repository Browser hangs on report call

    Hi,
after weeks of normal work with OWB Repository Browser, it started recently to hang up in the moment when an "Execution Job Report" (in column "Related Information") is called. No difference if error, mapping or workflow process report. We don't know which change in the system may have triggered this. Problem seems not to be in the database (no change in session after clicking the link is noticed). The OC4J windows gives no further log info and I can't find any log file in the J2EE directory. When trying to shut down the OC4J session regularly it brings:
    06/09/15 11:41:43 Shutting down...
06/09/15 11:41:45 Thread named: Thread[HttpRequestHandler-3945515,1,ApplicationServerThreadGroup] cannot be interrupted
06/09/15 11:41:45 Thread named: Thread[HttpRequestHandler-30624226,1,ApplicationServerThreadGroup] cannot be interrupted
The DOS box has to be closed the brutal way which recovers after restarting.
    some ideas around
    regards
    Thomas

indeed, it is likely that the report was simply hanging in SQL execution. did you check that before you purged? What can occur is that the statistics for the RT schema get out of whack if the schema is not analyzed. AFter months and months of operations, the execution plan for these reports is no longer valid and ... then you hang for a long time :)
analyze stats. and on slower systems, truncate audit data every now and then. and make sure you aren't running all your mappings in FULL audit mode.
    My two cents.

  • Scheduled Packages Hanging (BPC ver 5.0)

    Hello,
We are having a problem "scheduling" standard SSIS packages for e.g. import package. When we schedule a package, the package runs successfully for 3 or 4 days (i.e. 3 to 4 cycles) but the package hangs after that. When this happens event though the "Package Schedule Status" shows the status "Running" and the package itself is not executed ("View Package Status" does not show any activity on the package).
Has anyone encountered this issue? If so how can we solve this? (This is a significant issue for us since we cannot reliably schedule any packages)
FYI, we are still on BPC ver 5.0.
    Thank you & regards
    Raja

Iwould venture a guess that if you are seeing the issue in version 5.0 SP (ANY), that the issue was subsequently solved and fixed in either 5.1 SP(X) or 7.0SP(X).  The best chance of determining this is to log a ticket with SAP support for clarification on timing of the issue and resolution.  Otherwise, you would need to search the Release Notes from version 5.1 forward to see if and when the problem was resolved.
My immediate advice is to plan accordingly for an upgrade to the newest BPC version on either the MIcrosoft or Netweaver platform.  As it relates to the issue at hand; You may want to try to truncate the log table every 2 days and see if that impacts the locking, otherwise, check for any proceses that run on the server or take it offline in the middle of you running the package.  I would imagine any MS updates or backup processes will "kill" the process mid stream.
    Hope this helps.

  • Time taken to truncate table

    Hi,
    We use Oracle 9.2.0.8.
There is a table whose size is almost 30GB.
Considering there are no locks and just one index string on this table, is there a way to estimate the time taken to truncate this table?
I need to plan this activity. Does anybody can give me any idea about time based on old experiences?
    Thanks in advance,
    Fer

Seconds... (if there are no locks).
Truncate is an operation on data dictionary metadata. Oracle will free all extents exept the first one and will mark all blocks in the first extent as unused. No data blocks are "formatted" or "cleared". (If you open your datafile in hex editior, you can still see contents of datablocks - names, addresses, phone numbers etc.).
If truncate does not complete in 15 seconds, you can start looking for locks.
    You can also try:
    LOCK TABLE my_30gig_tab IN EXCLUSIVE MODE;
    before attempting TRUNCATE.
If there are locks on the table then your session will "hang" on LOCK TABLE statement (your session will wait, but it can take long time), but subsequent TRUNCATE should be fast.
