Try out the AMD processor driver!

I don't know how many of you are aware of the AMD Athlon 64 processor driver. I didn't know about it at first. It doesn't appear to be well advertized. It does a good job of lowering CPU temperatures. It decreased my average CPU temp by about 8C. From the AMD web site:
According to AMD:
AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP allows the system to automatically adjust the CPU speed, Voltage and Power combination that match the instantaneous user performance need. The Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP may be used on both Athlon™ 64 Processor Mobile and Athlon™ 64 Cool 'n' Quiet enabled platforms.
To download the driver go to:
http://www.amd.com/us-en/assets/content_type/utilities/Athlon64driver-1101_.ZIP
The directions for installing it is included. What is less obvious however is that for you to see any of the cooling effect you must select "Minimal Power Management" in the power options control panel applet.

Hi,
My system was working till I decided to install SP3. After some time the system would crash at random. I checked the net and renamed intelppm.sys hoping that this would solve the problem. Also, re-installed  AMD processor driver.
After sometime I re-installed XP with sp2. Again installed AMD processor Driver 1.3.2 and the system would BSOD as soon as I would try to change "Power Options" to "Minimal .." in XP with error: IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and (0x0000000A). Is the processor driver buggy ?
Cool 'n' Quiet use to work without any issues before this problem :(
regards.
Do you use Virtual PC or such?
Well navigate to CPU driver in device manager, then right click over it and select "Roll Back Driver". Reboot and see how it goes.

  • 2 unrelated questions. Prob w/ Adjust CPU VID in BIOS - AMD Processor Driver

First up, I just checked the BIOS section "Adjust CPU VID" for the first time and the default setting is at 1.500v. I never touched it. I have a Venice core (Revision E) and the stock voltage as far as I know is supposed to be 1.35v. And despite all that Everest is telling me the cpu core is at 1.39v right now. Is the BIOS not setting my voltage correctly?
Second, are you supposed to have the AMD Processor Driver installed? I didnt even know about it until I stumbled across it on AMD's site. I assume I've been running on some kind of Windows default processor driver all this time. Would the direct from AMD version increase performance, stability etc?

    Hi Liver Kick,
yep your right on 1.35v though AMD post it as "variable" in the Thermal and Electrical Specification of 8th generation AMD Processors Page 6
The reason it's there as variable is probably found from Syar's post Re: Power of the Press - Neo4 Bios Issue - MSI Acknowledged Issue!

Is the BIOS not setting my voltage correctly?
    - No, Guess it will be fixed when the bios updates are sorted. The winnie was the same for a while, b4 the bios was changed.
There are 2 AMD drivers if you mean AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor Driver for Windows XP x64 Edition and Windows Server 2003 x64 Editions Version (exe) 1.2.2.1 This is for cool'n'quiet & isn't needed. Windows XP takes care of the 2nd see the processor tab in windows device manager.

  • NEED HELP: Where can I try out the iOS SDK in Melbourne, Australia?

hey guys, i'd love to try developing for the iOS SDK and from what i can tell the only way i'll know if i can develop for it is actually doing it myself. i've been reading books about it, but i feel like this just isn't enough. the only problem is, i don't have a Mac and i'd rather not buy one just in case the SDK isn't for me because then i would have bought the Mac for no reason.
there are a couple Apple retail stores near me, but i've never been into one before. does anyone know if they'll be able to help me out by allowing me 20-30 minutes to try out the SDK? i don't mind paying.
thanks guys, i'd appreciate any help.

Walk in to the store and ask. In general, Apple Store employees are told to display a helpful attitude towards (possible) clients.
If they don't have a Mac with the SDK already installed, you might want to come back later until the local Genius is done downloading and installing it.

Once you have the correct TabCandy build installed, you can't let it update because that version points to the wrong update package.

  • I want to try out the Standard edition of Acrobat XI. What do I do?

I want to try out the Standard edition of Acrobat before purchasing to see if it is right for my company, but the only available trial is for the Pro edition. I don't want to commit to purchasing the Standard edition before trying out that specific edition, since it will have less features than the Pro edition. I want to avoid a scenario where I pay for the Standard edition, find out it doesn't have the features I need, and then pay again for the Pro edition. Advice, anyone?

Also wondering if, when I downloaded the Standard edition, there would be the option to upgrade to Acrobat XI Pro while only having to pay the difference between the two prices, rather than paying the full price after having already purchased the Standard edition? Can anyone confirm whether this would be a possibility?

  • How to try out the samples come with jwsdp

    hi,
I download jwsdp. and try to try out the sample under /registry. very little info under that folder.
    Anybody have this experience?
    thanks in advance

Yes, I know. In fact, you will be very luck if you get the samples to work right out of the box. You have to set a lot of environment variables to make it work properly. I would suggest that you download the HelloWorld demo from http://ninestep.com/ninestep/learn_ws.jsp, which compiles and runs without any problem. The way they did things is wrote the build script using relative path. All the jar files are included in the package. Jence Incorporated (NineSTEP), http://www.jence.com site has other information as well. The HelloWorld demo also have a demo applet and shows you how to connect to a web service using a applet by writing a signed jar. Jence also have an interesting product named NineSYNC, a web data sync product, http://www.ninesync.com, which might also be of interest to you.

The only way out of Recovery mode is to connect to iTunes and restore. If you cannot access the computer you normally sync with, you will lose all of your content, unless you sync to iCloud. With no backup present, your content will be lost.

  • AMD Processor Driver

I have seen comments about installing AMD Athlon 64 Processor Driver.  I looked on the AMD site and downloaded The XP version 1.1.0.1 and I am just wondering if I really need to install this.
Everything is running fine except Cool n Quiet, the comments I have seen are talking about Cool n Quiet.  MY system does not go down to 800mhz when inactive, it always stays at 2000mhz or 2200mhz if I OC

    Hi Bilbo
Although I do not have the MSI Board (RMA-ed it for the ASUS k8V Deluxe)
I have been using Cool n' Quiet as well as turned on QFan in the BIOS and have no problems at all . Have you enabled Cool n' Quiet in the BIOS Advanced>CPU Configuration>AMD CPU Cool & Quiet Configuration to ON? as well as in the Power menu in the BIOS enabled ACPI 2.0 Support and after booting into windows under Power Schemes selected Minimal Power Management ?
Since QFan is a separate process that takes control I have noticed when first loading windows or rebooting and during the running of applications like checkdisk that operate outside of windows. When QFan runs it is indeed full speed on the CPU fan.
However after windows loads and depending on the CPU tasking the CPU Fan now controlled by the Cool n' Quiet will actually slow the fan rpm's and if there is not much demand on the CPU and the temp is not high (at the threshold) the fan will even go OFF for periods of time. Right now I have been running my machine for about 4 hours and the CPU fan is OFF and my temps are: CPU temp 55C and the Mobo temp is at 33C.
My case is an Artec 868 and I have 2 rear outtake fans that run continuously as well as a side panel intake fan that runs continuously , the power supply fan, and just recently added a Zerus PCI slot fan (http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=133211&Sku=Z19-1028&CatId=804) ---that helps suck out warm air from inside the case at the bottom (placed it below my Aver TV capture card and NVidia 5200 AGP card-had to move a few cards around ) that really lowered my overall case temp by 10C.
    Hope this info helps
    Cheers!

  • Taking out the S430 optical drive

    Hey!
    I recently got my S430 and quickly realised that I don't have any need for an optical drive at all. I thought at first that I could maybe swap in a hdd but according to this thread, there is no such drive ;~;
Nevertheless, I would like to ask if I can simply remove the optical drive in order to just save weight. Would this leave a big hole on the side, or can I remove the outer edge of the drive and place it back on the laptop body to cover the gap?
    Thanks for any assistance!

    Hi,
That information is wrong. You can buy it http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=Lenovo+S430&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313&_nk...
To replace it there are three screws (two for the keyboard plus one for the caddy).
I know since I did just that. I don't even know why would I need a DVD RW.
Regarding the other question: if you just remove it, it will leave a huge hole on the side. And the DVD reader weight is almost nothing.
    Cheers.
If I helped you, please give me some kudos! ^^

  • Will swapping out the internal hard drive in my MBP void the warranty?

Hello, Basically my question is, Can I change the internal Macintosh HD hard drive in my 15 inch Uni-Body MacBook Pro (Express Card slot) without voiding the warranty? If not, could I take my computer to an authorized Apple Service Center and have them change my HD?
Another question, My internal HD is 250 GB, I was wondering what is the size limit for my machine? I would personally like to fit 1TB in here

Yes, you can swap it without voiding the warranty. Instructions are in your user manual.
Western Digital has just released 750GB and 1TB 2.5" drives. They are taller (12.5mm) than the height specification for MBP internal drives (9.5mm), but it has been reported that they will fit anyway.

  • Is it true that you can try out the 11" Macbook Air and exchange it for a 13" if it's too small?

    I've heard this.  Any confirmation?

Check the online Apple Store policy and see what the return policy is.  You'd probably return the 11" and then buy the 13".  Of course, even better-- buy the 13" and just return the one that doesn't work for you!
