Trying to Connect to Reports 6i/NT Developer to SQL Server 7 using ODBC

I am trying to connect Reports 6i Developer on NT through ODBC to SQL Server 7 (on same NT machine), and get an error message:
ORA00022: invalid session id; access denied.
When I try connecting using SQL*Plus, I get the following message:
SQL*Plus: Release 8.0.6.0.0 - Production on Thu Mar 15 09:57:48 2001

You may need to run PUPBLD.SQL as SYSTEM
Server not available or version too low for this feature
ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied
I can run SQL queries only after I have run a DESC <table name> command once. Otherwise, I get the following error:
SQL> select * from authors;
SQL*Plus internal error state 2090, context 246:0:0
Unsafe to proceed
Even with a DESC command is run, I can connect, but with an error as follows:
SQL> desc authors
ORA-00022: invalid session id; access denied
Name Null? Type
AU_ID NOT NULL VARCHAR2(11)
AU_LNAME NOT NULL VARCHAR2(40)...
ODBC Drivers used: I get the same results in Reports 6i and SQL *Plus with the Intersolv/Merant or Microsoft ODBC drivers for SQL Server. (Merant Version 3.7 for 32-bit SQL Server 6, 12/1/00)
Please HELP.

harry,
i am assuming you are using 6.0.8.8 of reports6i, which is base-release. there have been problems withthe OCA in this version. by using the latest patch you should solve this problem. for further details, please contact oracle support services.

  • Generic Connectivity from Oracle 10gR2 to SQL Server using ODBC

    Hi,
I have setup an ODBC generic connection from an Oracle 10.2 database (on Win 2000) to a SQL Server database (on a different Windows machine). When I query a column which is of LONG data type (TEXT on SQL Server) my session just hangs, no data or errors are returned, trace file just ends showing the SQL statement I entered, but no errors.
If I query other columns with CHAR, DATE, NUMBER datatypes the rows are returned successfully. As far as I can see from the documentation, the TEXT data type in SQL Server should map to SQL_LONGVARCHAR in ODBC, then that should map to LONG in Oracle, so I wouldnt have thought it was an incompatible data mapping issue.
I hear that LONG is being replaced/deprecated in Oracle, but is it now not supported by the HS ODBC program provided with 10g Rel 2? Has anyone else had a similar problem and found a workaround? Any help is much appreciated.
    Kieren.

    Hi,
HSODBC is not supported on Windows x64. So that's why you get the error ORA-28545
What you can do is to install DG4ODBC 11g on a 32bit machine.
DG4ODBC can be installed separately from the Oracle Server, for example on the SQL SERVER if you can.
But it is supported only in 32 bit too.
You can download from this website:
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/oracle11g/111060_win32soft.html
    ==>Oracle Database Gateways 11g Release 1 (11.1.0.6.0) for Microsoft Windows (32-bit)
The last option would be to create a virtual machine on your X64 machine with a Windows 32bit and DG4ODBC 11g.
Please let me know if you have any question.

  • CR2011, BO 4.0, connection to SQL server via ODBC

    Hi,
when developing reports locally using Crystal Reports 2011 I dont' have problems connecting to our MS SQL Server using ODBC. However, as soon as the report is exported to our BO Edge 4.0 SP2 server I get this error message when viewing the report in Launchpad (or CMC) and refreshing it:
"The viewer could not process an event. Failed to open the connection. CRWEB00000119"
In CMC I then entered the credentials for this report but I still get the error message.
So I created a new ODBC connection on the BO server pointing to the SQL server - but I can't specify this ODBC connection in CMC.
    Any hints?
    Thanks!

BOE 4.0 is 64 bit but some parts connect through 32 bit DB clients. So it would need both the 32 and 64 bit SQL Server 2000 client's installed. Not sure if MS had a 64 bit client for 2000 so likely the problem.
CR 2011 is a 32 bit app so that explains why it works on your PC.
I would or suggest you post to the BOE Admin forum but because it's SQL 2000 I doubt they'll be able to help.
All I can suggest it to upgrade SQL Server to SQL 2005 or 2008, 2008 has a bunch of new security settings/configurations so it takes a little more time to configure and grant rights to DB's but it will work. Also required is the use of and set location to the SQL Native Client 10 Client Tools to be installed and update all of your reports to use it also.

I am trying to connect my Macbook pro 2010 to my Samsung HDTV using a mini display port to hdtv cable. Trying to play a slide show in IPhoto but I only get sound with no picture. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

Depends on your model TV.   Read your TV user manual.  The newer models have "how to hookup" instructions for computer & games.

  • Will the reports developed in sql server 2008 r2 BIDS work when deployed on sql server 2012 reporting manager

Will the reports developed in sql server 2008 r2 BIDS work when deployed on sql server 2012 reporting manager?
when I check on Microsoft site it says
Reports are not upgraded when you upload a report definition file directly to the report server
or SharePoint site. Upgrading a report definition in SQL Server Data Tools is the only way to upgrade the .rdl file.
When you open an .rdl file in Report Designer in SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT), if the report was
created for a previous namespace, Report Designer automatically creates a backup file and upgrades the report to the current namespace.
This is the only way you can upgrade a report definition file.
Now here is another confusing statement which says
You can upload an .rdl file created in an earlier version of Reporting Services to a SQL Server
2012 report server and it is automatically upgraded on first use. The report server stores the report definition file in the original format. The report is automatically upgraded the first time it is viewed, but the stored report definition file remains
    unchanged.
All I want to know is if I deploy a rdl made in 2008 r2 to 2012 will it work on the report manager of
    2012?
    <o:p>
    </o:p>
    Mudassar

I have tested this fucntionality and can confirm that ssrs 2008 r2 reports work when you deploy them on new ssrs 2012 report manager .
    No Migration is required .
I didnt even moved report server dbs .All I did is just deployed reports on the report manager and it worked .
    "You
can upload an .rdl file created in an earlier version of Reporting Services to a SQL Server 2012 report server and it is automatically upgraded on first use. "
Microsoft needs to correct this the documentation is misleading

  • Report Builder 1.0 for SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2

We are trying to implement Ad-Hoc Reporting using SSRS 2008 R2.
First of all, it is very unhelpful that all SSRS books are for either 2008 or 2012, even though SSRS has major changes in 2008 R2 compared to 2008.
Our instructional materials indicate that we should build Report Models to abstract out our databases into terms familiar to our business users.
The problem we are having is the difference in functionality between Report Builder 1.0 and Report Builder 3.0. Report Builder 3.0 is touted as having the modern, ribbon based interface that is supposed to make end-users feel more comfortable.  However,
all the documentation says that end users are supposed to use Report Builder 1.0 for Ad-Hoc Reporting.  And, it seems, that the reports generated by Report Builder 1.0 are not round-trip compatible with all the other reporting tools for SSRS 2008 R2.
The documentation we have illustrates that Report Builder 1.0 is nice for Ad-Hoc reporting, because is based on connecting directly to Report Models, and the end users can directly drag-and-drop entities and fields into their reports.
When we try working with Report Builder 3.0, it seems we must first connect to the Report Model as a Data Source and then build a Dataset query on the Report Model.  Only then are some entity attributes available to be dropped into the report.
If the user decides another source column is needed, they have to go back, edit the query, save the query, and then drag the column from the Dataset to the report.  This does not seem end user friendly at all!
We are also concerned that if we train our users on the seemingly soon-to-be-obsolete Report Builder 1.0, and get them used to having direct Report Model access, that at some point we will have to move them to the Dataset-interrupted approach of Report Builder
2+.  Highlighting this perception of impending obsolescence of Report Builder 1.0 is that in our shop that is starting with SSRS 2008 R2, we cannot figure out how to get a copy of Report Builder 1.0 in the first place.
We just don't see our end users being savvy enough to handle the steps involved with creating Datasets on top of Report Model Data Sources.  So we would have to build the Datasets for them.  But in that case, what point is there in creating any
Report Models in the first place if DBAs are the ones to make Datasets?
As such, it is hard to envision a forward-looking SSRS implementation that has the end user ease-of-use Ad-Hoc reporting that the SSRS 2008 documentation presents.
What is it that Microsoft actually wants/expects SSRS implementers to do?

    Hi Dan,
    Report Builder 1.0
    Simple template-based reports
    Requires report model
Supports only SQL Server, Oracle, and Analysis Services as data sources
    Supports RDL 2005
    Bundled in SSRS
    Report Builder 2.0 or later
Full-featured reports as the BIDS Report Designer
Doesn't require (but supports) report models
    Supports any data source
    Supports RDL 2008
Available as a separate web download
In your scenario, you want to use Report Builder 1.0 in SQL Server Reporting Services 2008 R2, I am afraid this cannot achieve. Report Builder 1.0 is available in the box in either SQL 2005 or SQL 2008. It is not available as a separate client apps and is
only available as a click once application.
    Report Builder 1.0
    Report Builder 3.0
    Thank you for your understanding.

  • Reporting with Report Builder 3.0 and SQL Server 2008 R2

    Hi everyone
I'm trying really hard to find books about Report Builder 3.0 or SQL Server 2008 R2
I found the following books on the "learn" site, sadly they do not cover Report Builder 3.0 or SQL Server 2008 R2 since there all too old.
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Analysis Services Step by Step
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 MDX Step by Step
Microsoft® SQL Server® 2008 Reporting Services Step by Step
What are good books (like the ones above) for the newest system?

    Hello wishmasterIN,
Thank you to post your question on TechNet forum.
Based on my experience, the books are always delayed to the new technology, since the author need time to summarize and analyze the new features in the new product or technology, write it down and publish it. If you want to have a quick learning about the
new technology, MSDN library is a good place. It can be a cookbook for you. It contains some detail steps for tools, such as Report Builder or BIDS. It also contains many new features introduction. It is always very useful for you to understand the new features.
In addition, it is based on web and many links make you can jump to the other technical point freely. The most important is all of these is free and all the information will be updated if the new feature is released.
In short, if you want to learn the latest technology about Microsoft product, MSDN is a good choice. I hope my introduction is helpful to you.

  • How to connect sql server using oracle Client

    Hi,
I am working in oracle9i and windows os 32 bit.
I need to connect SQL server 2000 from my oracle client..
I heard about heterogeneous connectivity ...
Please expalin me the steps what to add and how to connect the sql server...
    Regs....

Are you trying to connect to SQL Server from your Oracle database (i.e. create a database link in Oracle to SQL Server)? Or are you trying to connect to SQL Server using your Oracle client software (i.e. SQL*Plus)?
The former just requires Heterogeneous Services with Generic Connectivity. The latter is functionality that has been depricated and probably no longer works in your environment.

  • Issues while readin SQL server via ODBC connection

    Hi Experts,
I havea SQL server db as a source. I have configured the Datastore using ODBC connection. Developed a job which simply reads a table and populates into a flat file. when we run the job, it doesnt show any progress, it just stops after a log message "initializing data store, processing job" . I looked at the job logs file on the Job server, its incomplete as well.
One thing is that, im able to see the data when i go under data store and view data option for that particular table.  My other jobs works just fine with oracle data base sources. We restarted the BODS server as well, but it doesnt  help. Any idea on what might be going on ?.
    Thanks for your time.
    Regards,
    Narayanan

    Hi Narayanan ,
    There are two steps:
    1) Set up the ODBC connection correctly on your Linux server
    http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/EIM/ToconfigureDataDirectODBConLinuxand+Unix
(test with isql command line if connection on that server to the SQL Server is working)
    2) Select ODBC connection in the datastore and then put the name of the connection you defined. (do not choose Database - SQL Server)

Sorry Tom, I dont like to hear "There is no way" :-(
There is always a way in computer to get what you need (at least it is good as Rule of thumb). I am not sure we will find it here (in a voluntary supporting forum).
Now we (or better the architect of their system) should think of the way :-)
Of course doing so in the forum, while we do know the system and only got a glimpse on what is needed, is not the best idea. I will point some issues which can be related to a solution. Those are not a solotions as it is but something we can use for a solution
once something look in the right way.
    * A web connects counter is one of the easier thing to do. The basic idea is just to use the connect event and the disconnect event an adding 1 or removing 1 from the counter. This is best to do in the application using static variable as any way the second
the application is down the counter can be go to hell as we know there is no one connect (there for a counter do not use database usually). Using a web dot-net (or asp 3) application this is done most of the time using the global.asa/global.asax file, which
include the application and session events. for example using the method Session_Start
    protected void Session_Start(object sender, EventArgs e) {
// Code that runs when a new session is started
    * IIS have a build-in loging system where we can log each and every request/response or only logins users. There is lot we can do with this log files including data mining. Using small bulk insert script we can use the SQL agent to insert those logs to the
database and get the information we need.
    * any web developer i want to believe know about the Fiddler application which we use to monitor traffic. A proxy is not the only way to to monitor traffic (it is not good for our case as this is in the client side), there are several option in the server
    side.
    * SQL trigger on logon can be use to get information on who is loging on and can be logging only specific source (like our sharepoint IP or any sharepoint application). This information (what is the application which connect to the server can be retrive
in several solution without using a trigger as well)
*** (I'll be brief ... I'm getting bored... probably the reader feel the same)
    * using extended events and/or profiler we can monitor any connection and save the data or just remember it in shared (static) variable (this
blog show how to do it by the way). Again we can monitor specific application or use any filter in order to get only the sharepoint users
.... and i can continue for several days more :-) ...
"If there is a willing, then there's a way"
"If you can't do it, Then someone else probably can"
    "Never say never"
I hope this help somehow :-)
