Trying to create a rotating word cloud

I'm trying to simulate one of the 3D word clouds you see popping up around the net these days. Here's an example (to the right in the header):
http://tarasnovak.com/blog/2009/01/12/wordle-beautiful-and-compact-word-cloud-generator/
What I've done so far is create all the words and then move them back and forth in z space so that I have something looking like a typical word cloud. What I can't figure out is how to get the words to orbit around a central point as well as have the words always facing towards the camera as the cloud itself rotates. I want to animate certain words rotating to the front of the cloud, but have had no luck figuring this out.
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Ray

What I can't figure out is how to get the words to orbit around a central point
Parent them to a Null object.
as well as have the words always facing towards the camera as the cloud itself rotates.

  • Getting error when trying to create pdf from Word

    How do I resolve this problem. When I try to creat a PDF from a Word file, I get an error saying that "pdfmaker is missing files"?

    Start by opening word and printing the file to the Adobe PDF printer. Other than that, there is a lot of info missing in your post that is needed to answer. What version of WORD (32 or 64 bit), OS (32 or 64 bit), and version of Acrobat. It is likely that you have a combination that is not compatible for PDF maker. If so, your only choice will be the printer route.

  • I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.

    I am trying to create a print ready PDF from a word file with unacceptable results.
    The word file has a trim size of 6” x 9”. It has been set to mirror margins with the inner, top and bottom margins set to 0.75”, the outer margin is set to 0.5” and the gutter to 0.14”.
    It doesn’t matter if I create the PDF from inside Word, or open Acrobat Pro 11.0.9 and click Create From File, while the resulting document size is correct and the odd numbered pages reflect the correct margins, the even numbered pages do not. This results in some text near the outer margin, as well as the page numbers being omitted.
    Does anyone know how to correct this?
    I just noticed that some of the odd numbered pages' text is also cropped. Apparently Acrobat is refusing to set side margins to smaller than 1" (@ 3cm).

    I'm away from my printer, so I'll try it later. Even so, the proposed test is irrelevant. I operate a small publishing house and am trying to upload certain novels to Ingram, the largest book distributor in the world. The specifications I've set are the specifications they've asked for. Since they've said that the results I'm obtaining are unacceptable, and since they demand submission in PDF form, this renders Acrobat Pro for Mac completely unacceptable for anyone in the publication industry. As far as I can tell, Adobe has a serious bug here that it needs to fix—and at once.

  • [CS4] Ann.: Wordalizer 1.25 "Create Word Clouds in InDesign"

    Marc Autret is way too modest -- he posted this announcement in the middle of a long thread in the Scripting forum, and I'm sure it deserves much more attention than that!
    http://www.indiscripts.com/post/2010/04/wordalizer-125-create-word-clouds-in-indesign
    -- a marvelous script that rips right through your text and creates a "Word Cloud" of the most (or least!) frequently used words in your document, book, clipboard text, or wherever! Supports 'common word' removal in six different languages (so you don't end up with a giant "The" in the center), and has lots of tuning options.
    The freely downloadable version already has enough options to get excited about, and the Pro version has even more advanced editing options.
    Wordalizer speaking about itself:

    WOW! What a praise! Thank you so much Theunis
    > Is there a way to include spaces between words or special characters  (like bullet)?
    Yes and no! With the exceptions of hyphens, the text parser ignores most of the ‘non-alphabetic’ characters [note: the alphabet depends on the selected language.] That's to say that bullets, spaces --including every non-breaking spaces, sorry!--, and any similar characters are regarded as word separators. The dialog box provides the option ‘Allow digits’ though:
    However the PRO version allows you to insert extra characters through the word list editor, which supersedes the parser restrictions. So you can create a word cloud with bullets, space separated words, or anything else, by entering something like this:
    • word1 • : 100
    word1 word2 : 50
    #)$^*% : 20
    Then you get:
    Finally there is a secret tip allowing the user to inject a weighted word list containing weird characters, even with the TRY version:
    1) Create a text frame in InDesign. (This tip also works with imported text file, or clipboard source.)
    2) Enter your entries using the weighted list format:
    entry1 : weight
    entry2 : weight
    etc.
    3) Run the script and check "Active Text Frame" in the Source panel.
    4) Press OK. (Enjoy!)
    Last note: Wordalizer supports InDesign CS4 and InDesign CS5 ;-)
    Thanks again,
    Marc

    I find that if you have multiple 3d object  they must be merged into a single 3d layer their positions reset to align to the same axises then sized and positioned along them. The layer should then be able to be animated well around an axis like the y axis. Here a Sphere, Cylinder and ring. http://www.mouseprints.net/old/dpr/McAssey-CC.mp4

  • Need to create link to Word Doc in blob column in search results report

    I got the Oracle Text boolean search of word documents in a blob column of a table working.
    Now I need to be able to create a link in the results report.
    I know that Oracle creates a link for each document in the column when you attach a file, I just need to know what the link should be to allow users to open the document in the search results report.
    Right now the application is set to do a search in the attached word documents, and in the results window it shows the names of the people who match the search, but it won't allow me to create a link to their resume in the results report.
    the name of the table is CONTRACTOR_LIST and the blob column is RESUME.
    How would you go about creating a simple link to the word file in the results window?
    Here is the code for the query
    select score(1) relevance, Name, Resume
    from contractor_list
    where CONTAINS (resume, :P1_SEARCH, 1) > 0
    order by 1 desc
    That works, but I can't get it to link to the resume file.
    Here is the code I'm using for the link
    javascript:popupURL("#RESUMEL#")
    This just give me an error page and the the link is
    http://server-namer:8080/apex/[datatype]
    the error is
    Bad Request
    The HTTP client sent a request that this server could not understand.
    Thanks again!

    It is within the table I believe (I'm not a DBA or a developer) since I created a BLOB column and then used the file browse feature to allow users to attach a resume to the table in order to be able to perform a search of the attached documents.
    I'm just having a hard time pointing the link in the search results report to the document in the blob column.
    The information on that page is great if you're trying to create a link to the document on the initial report.
    But I created a query using Oracle Text to run a report that does a boolean search of the attached word documents in the table.
    When it displays the search results, it doesn't create a link to the document and I can't figure out how to do it.
    Here's a link the the instructions I used to create the initial search report with Oracle Text, mind you I only created the index and query, I didn't add in all the link data since they're using documents on websites and I'm using documents in a table.
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/pdf/apex_text_application_v1.6.pdf
    If you can help me with this I'd really appreciate it.
    Thanks again.

  • Error message in Adobe Pdf in printer device panel when trying to create a pdf document.  I have CS3

    Error message in Adobe Pdf in printer device panel when trying to create a pdf document.  I have CS3 Web Premium with Acrobat Professional 8.  I use it fine on my old computer with Windows XP.  I recently got a new laptop with Windows 7.  I installed all my Adobe programs, and I think they are working.  When I look at Adobe PDF in the device section of the Control Panel it looks okay.  But when I try to print a Word, Photoshop, or HTML page in PDF, nothing happens.  I have tried printing both as File>print and using the PDF tab on the top menu bar.  I look at the device in the control panel and it has the yellow error warning symbol and suggests trying to troubleshoot.  I look at the document list and it says status "error".  When I try troubleshooting Windows suggests doing some Home Sharing and also suggests canceling the document I'm trying to print.  I tried re-installing just Acrobat 8 from CS3 (and have to use Photoshop CS4 disk for shared documents I guess).  I ran into a can't locate adobepdf_dll file, so did a web search on this issue and found a suggestion that I find and use the adobepdf_dll_64 file and may have to (I did have to) remove the "_64" for it to work.  I think I successfully reinstalled using that dll file- no errors came up anyway.  But still when I try printing/converting a photoshop, webpage, or word document into pdf, the pdf device in control panel still gives the error status on the document and gives the same troubleshooting advice.  Help?

    I just compared the properties between the two computers.  On the old computer it has the port as "My Documents/*.pdf".  On my new computer it lists the port as "LPT1".  I tried changing the port to "Print as File", but when I try printing a photoshop picture as pdf, I get a "Access Denied".  I then tried to create a new port on the device control panel.  I tried to create a local port "My Documents/*.pdf" port but was denied.  I ten tried to create a new port type and control panel asked for an INF file.  I wonder if this is where my problem lies.  Thoughts?

    I´d like to exclude my accounts and creat another account with my same email. How can I do It?

    I don't know if that works on the iPhone, but....
    View your SETTINGS and choose ICLOUD. That will give you your cloud settings. At the very bottom it has a delete button. Click it an see what happens. After deleting the account (and potentially loosing data connected with it) you should be able to log in to iCloud using your old id.

  • Trying to Create a Macro...it's not going well

    Hello!
    I am trying to create a macro for this Questionnaire I am building. I need it to pull information from 3 or so different tables in word (all in same doc) and export them into Excel. I have fields that gather personal info like Name, Address, Telephone Number,
    Email, etc, but also fields that take info like Tax Filing State and Tax ID number. There will be about 40 fields in all when the questionnaire is done. Each field is being filled in using a legacy tool- text form field. Is there some sort of macro shell I
    can use that I can fill in with each field when I have completed it? I have office 2013, not sure if that matters.
    Thank you!

    The following Excel macro will pull the data from all formfields in all Word files in a specified folder into the active worksheet. To run it, simply press Alt-F8 and choose the 'GetFormData' macro. You'll be asked to navigate to the source folder.
    Once you've done that, the macro will populate the worksheet. The first row will be left alone, so you can populate it with headings before or after running the macro.
    Sub GetFormData()
         'Note: this code requires a reference to the Word object model
        Application.ScreenUpdating = False
        Dim wdApp As New Word.Application
        Dim wdDoc As Word.Document

        strFile = Dir(strFolder & "\*.doc", vbNormal)
        While strFile <> ""
            i = i + 1

        Set wdDoc = Nothing: Set wdApp = Nothing: Set WkSht = Nothing
        Application.ScreenUpdating = True
    End Sub

        Dim oFolder As Object
        GetFolder = ""
        Set oFolder = CreateObject("Shell.Application").BrowseForFolder(0, "Choose a folder", 0)
        If (Not oFolder Is Nothing) Then GetFolder = oFolder.Items.Item.Path
        Set oFolder = Nothing
    End Function
    Note the commented-out code that allows the macro to work with content controls as well or instead.

  • Question re Create PDF from Word doc

    Hi
    I am trying to create a pdf from a Word document (Word 2007, Acrobat 8 Professional), and am having lots of trouble with images,fonts and document overhead. With the fonts, i generate the PDF by saying Create Pdf from the plugin in Word. I specify in the Preferences that fonts are not to be embedded. I then open the PDF and access PDF Optimiser -> Audit Space Usage, and it says that fonts take up like 20% of the document, however there are only like 10 lines of text in Arial (9pt), and 6 titles also in Arial (Bold). I dont understand why Font is taking up so much space considering that i have elected not to embed fonts (if i go to the Fonts section in the Optimiser, it shows both embedded and unembedded panes blank).
    With the images, i have 2 jpegs in the footer, that are compressed (JPEG -> Low). The other thing i am struggling with is the headers and footers, if i generate the PDF from the Word doc with Headers/Footers, then images take up over 15% of the document. Not sure if there is a way to add headers and footers within minimum impact of filesize? I have tried checking everything in the 3 categories of Dicard Objects, Discard User data and Clean Up. but the Document Overhead remains at 35%.
    What else can i do to get these filesizes reduced?I have been researching this for days and have not come across anything that has helped.I have tried to PDF print, i have changed the font to like Courier, ensured no thumbnails or bookmarks, ensured JPEGs are not embedded in the doc, tried Save As, Save As under a different filename - basically anthing you can find on the net i have found and tried, but still cant fix this!!!! please, if anyone knows acrobate 8 better than me / or knows what the problem is, please advise????
    Thanks very much.

    The colors and size in a graphic needs to be done in a graphics editor. What type of editor would depend on the use of vector graphics versus bitmap. Sometimes vector graphics are larger than bitmaps if you are using a lot of lines that would display better as just a splotch of color. Such are the variations between vector and bitmap graphics, but important if you are looking for size reduction. For a bitmap, I would do the sizing and color depth with IrfanView, but you should be able to do that with PhotoShop if you have it. Vector graphics can be adjusted in Illustrator. The size of vector graphics is not an issue since they are scalable, but the size of a bitmap is important since your are looking at individual pixels and that depends on size. The point is that if you can adjust the color depth and size for the desired pixel resolution, the bitmap is optimized for the conversion to PDF from WORD.
    As I mentioned, the smallest file size job options should minimize font storage in the PDF. Checking with the PDF Optimizer does not always give you all of the fonts. I am not sure why. It is better to check the font tab in the document properties to see what has been embedded. There is a preflight macro to embed fonts, you might check to see if there is one to delete fonts (I have not checked on that). Sometimes you can play with the reprint of a PDF, but that is not an option that is generally recommended, particularly if you have any tagging or such. Of course, tagging can really bloat a PDF, but is needed for a variety of reasons such as format for saving back to WORD (not a great workflow), accessability, and related issues. In another topic, there is some discussion of the purposes of tagging and bookmarks. However, the tags and bookmarks take space if that is really an issue for you. The latter are avoided if you use the print to the Adobe PDF printer and do not use PDF Maker in the PDF creation process. Again, there is a trade-off here in terms of size and functionality, particularly accessibility compliance.
    Not sure I am helping as I run on, but sort what might be useful for you.

  • Creating PDF via Word Macro using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro

    I've been trying to create a macro for Word documents that will write the document out as a PDF and named as C:\temp\temp.pd. My macro to date is below, but everything I've tried so far results in a .prn file, though it is named temp.pdf. Trying to record the Macro using toolbar buttons or dropdowns yields a macro with no code. Any suggestions?
    Sub WritePdfFile()
    ' WritePdfFile Macro
        Windows(1).Activate
        ActivePrinter = "Acrobat PDFWriter"
        Application.PrintOut FileName:="", OutputFileName:="C:\temp\temp.pdf", Range:=wdPrintAllDocument, Item:= _
            wdPrintDocumentContent, Copies:=1, Pages:="", PageType:=wdPrintAllPages, _
            Collate:=True, Background:=True, PrintToFile:=False

    I have tried using ActivePrinter = "Adobe PDF" . However, the results are the same. The file created is a prn file.  I've seen some references to a MS Word 'PDF Maker' plug-in that perhaps should be used, but this does not seem necessary to me. This is because, with the same document opened in Word, I can select the 'Convert to Adobe PDF' toolbar button and this creates a temp.pdf file as I need it. The challenge seems to be to get the same behavior through the use of a Macro.

  • Dashed Table borders do not render correctly when PDF created from MS word 2013

    I have a defined format for many documents which have all been created in MS word 2007.  Never any problem creating PDFs of  these using ADOBE XI Pro.
    Updated to MS 2013 and now when converting the same doc to PDF all dashed borders around tables render as solid lines. The only time they render correctly is if I PRINT to PDF.  Printing to PDF is not an option as I create batches of many documents at one time, so would be to time consuming.  This was an issue when i considered upgrading 2007 to 2010 a couple of years ago, so caused me to delay upgrade.. upgrade is now required.
    I have a sample of a document if required.
    thanks

    Just as a test, have you tried the MS plugin for PDF creation? I have found with other versions of WORD and Acrobat that PDF Maker and the MS plugin can both fill in dots and dashes on vector graphics (basically what the border is) and yet it comes out correctly with printing to the Adobe PDF printer. Unfortunately I do not have a solution. In my case, it seemed to be related to the vector graphic itself (I could import it to InkScape or other vector graphic tool and save to EMF and it then worked fine. It may be something that MS themselves have messed up in OFFICE 2013. Good luck.
