Trying to keep IE out of "quirks mode"

I was told that if I used HTML 4.01 Strict for my DOCTYPE, it would prevent IE from going into "quirks mode." However, after doing that and trying to validate the pages, I got dozens of errors. Most concerned closing some tags with " />" instead of just ">" Even after fixing all those there were numerous errors left. Was I mis-informed? Is there reallyl a way to keep IE from going into quirks mode?

You merely need to use a complete and valid (as opposed to incomplete or broken) Doctype.

XHTML doctypes require self-closing tags for HTML tags (such as <img> which don't have a corresponding closing tag pair e.g. /> rather than >.

IPhone 4 keeps going out of DFU mode when trying to reset

So I was helping my dad with his iPhone 4. It just stopped working from time to time.
When I tried turning it back on at those times, it just stops at the recovery mode screen. I then tried having it plugged in while I had iTunes up, but that didn't help. Error 21, iTunes said.
So I tried putting the phone in DFU mode and then resetting it to factory settings. But during the reset - when it tried to contact the Apple servers - the phone went straight from DFU mode to Recovery mode which gave me the error 21 again.
I've tried all of the tips in the help section (making sure that the computer was up-to-date, I made sure the security program was turned off etc, I deleted the ipw and had iTunes download it for me again), but that didn't help either. I even tried to start iTunes as an administrator, but that didn't help either. The account on the computer is also an administrator.
So what should I do now?

Use recovery mode

My answer is probably not what you're looking for, but that hasn't stopped me yet ;-)
I used the Apple imaging tools for years, sometimes without a hitch, sometimes successfully after searching these forums for tips becasue the tools didn't work straightforward, and sometimes with no luck. 2 or 3 years ago we hired a consultant to help out with imaging. They went right to DeployStudio. I've not touched Apple's imaging tools since.
DeployStudion's documentation is great, there is a good firum at their web site, and I've found the process to be much more stable than any version of Apple's tools. Once it is set up and running, adding new images and workflows is a breeze, and it is easily configurable. I highly reccomend it. YMMV.

6230i keeps coming out of "car" mode in cradle

Sorry, but I don't know what cradle I have as the kit was installed by my employer. When I put the 6230i in the cradle it recognises it and goes into hands free mode. After 30 secs or so it goes back into hand held mode. If I press the remote Nokia button on the dash it goes back to hands free but only briefly. Any ideas?

Sounds like the engineer has taken power from the back of the radio and you have a car with a can bus system (no ignition wires). To cheat he has use power antenna connection. I would seriously doubt this engineer capability. If you need a good engineer in your area let me know.

You cannot. If it is in recovery mode, the data is already gone.
Did you fail to make sure everything was on your computer before updating?

Well, for the last week someones been putting my iPhone constantly in lost mode using my apple account and I keep getting out because I know my own password. I want to change the password but two other people I know use it, (who definetly wouldn't do this), someone else probably got ahold of the account and is spamming the phones into lost mode. I'm not in lost mode currently by the way. Not sure if you were told what error 2009 is caused by so I'll let you know if you havn;t been informed. In the article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 is says:
Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. I've tried everything to get my phone out of recovery mode but nothing is working.

I recently started updating my phone to I.O.S 8.1.3, and it was downloading and updating fine, then it said it had an error updating. I turned it off and on again to see if that would work, and when I clicked install it showed up as if it was turning off. It then showed up that I needed to connect to iTunes. So I did, and it said it was in recovery mode, and that I needed to restore. So I tried that and it said multiple times, when I got part way through the restoration, that the network had timed out when it hadn't. So I researched ways to get it out of the recovery mode.
I've tried:
holding down home and lock button
holding down lock and volume button
downloading tinyumbrella, however it wouldn't let me open it
Putting it into DFU mode and restoring
Nothing is working! I don't know what to do, I need my phone for when I'm travelling and now I don't have one.
Anyone got any more ideas? I'll be incredibly grateful.
If I can't get this to work I've wasted £200 of money on a phone that decides it's logical to kill itself. I won't be doing that again.

I was trying to download TinyUmbrella because some people have said it basically kicks phones out of recovery mode, and I did try that but it hadn't worked, it kept loosing connection with the phone even though it was connected.
I took the phone to the O2 shop and they did something to restore it, so it's working fine finally thanks for replying!
