Trying to open a music file and I get the message "cannot open this song until the latest version is in use" (or words to that effect) - but we are using the latest version we have ever had, and the song was created using that version !!! Help !

I created a music file in my current version of Garageband (2.0.2) but when I try to open the file I am told that I must get the current version of Garageband ?!
Anyone have any ideas why this is happening ?!

What have you done, directly before this problem happened? Have you installed any other software, upgraded software, restored your system from a backup?
The error message can occur, if you have two versions of GarageBand, and now your Dock icon links to the wrong version of the program. Search your Mac for other versions of GarageBand. If you find another installation, check if the version is newer, then use that to open your file.
Another reason may be, that your current GarageBand Application is corrupted. To check that, try to launch GarageBand from a different User account - if you do not have one, create a new account from the System Preferences > Users and Groups panel (this panel might have been called something else in 10.4.11, sorry, I am using 10.8.2 now).
If GarageBand also does not launch from this account, reinstall GarageBand from your installation Media and upgrade - a link to the upgrade is here: http://support.apple.com/kb/DL454

I have an application which hosts various reports, these reports are all in Crystal 8.5. I want to switch some of these reports to Crystal 11 reports and also add new reports. Hence I will be displaying both Crystal 8.5 and Crystal 11 report in my application. Yes, use the Object browser for the RDC and search on major and minor version you'll find info on how to get the report version.
If you can't figure it out I'll up date the post tomorrow with sample code.
Now that I have my test machine going again with VS 6 running I looked and I lied, the RDC only returned the version of the engine and not the report. The new CR Assemblies will allow you to get the report version.

I'm trying to sync my 5th gen iPod and I keep getting a message that there are items on my iPod that are not in my iTunes and they'll be deleted if I don't transfer them. How do I find out what these items are so I know if I want them or not? Also, I seem to have a fair amount of duplicates, one marked with the cloudn symbol and one not. Which one do I delete??
Go to your "Purchased" list. See:

Best way to orginize music files and folders, renaming relivant attubuties

Im just at the start of trying to organize my music files and folders and trying to get back to grips with making sure all music files in a folder have the same genre, album name, have a vaild track name.
Couple of questions.
What is the best free software to change all the relivant tags?
Should I just wipe out unnecessary tags and keep the most basic ones.
What I want is my ipod to be easy to navigate, for it to be easy to play what I want and to have images for all music, I am happy to copy down images manually.
Oh and I want to do it to the source files, which I should be able to take a back up at the end incase.
Im also wide open to advice and tips, like please let me know what I should be aimming for here, im going to spend about 12 hours ahead of me copying my music to my computer and trying to fill my 64gb touch up so its healthly for my ride to work and when I ride my bike for exercise.

Problem! I just copied my extern hdd to finder and tried to open my files when I get the message: "The Map ”Pictures” can not be opened since you don´t have authority to see it´s contents! What??? No one else has access to my computer....now I can´t open my 300 Gb on my hdd in my Macbook Pro. Help?
I've had this happen a few times before. What I found works is repairing the permissions. To do so click on go and then to utilities. click disk utilities. In disk utilities select the drive and click repair permissions. It may take a little time but try accessing after that.

Hello this is the first time I have ever had a problem. I am trying to down load a movie and it keeps giving me error -50. I have signed out and back in and deleated the download and tryed again and still will not download.

Open Automator
Choose Folder Action for type of document
At the top, for Folder action receives files and folders added to, select Other...
in the window that opens, select your Downloads folder, and then Choose
from the Actions on the left, drag Filter Finder Items over to the column on the right
Where it says Any Content, select Kind
Where it says Any, select music
Drag Move Finder Items over to the rightfor To: select other, and navigate to your user folder > Music > iTunes > iTunes Media > Automatically Add to iTunes

Are you launching Pages from an icon in your Dock? Installing the update does not change the Dock icons & it does not remove the older versions. Go to your Applications folder & launch the new Pages from there.

I have rented 2 movies the past 9 days and they won't transfer to my iPad (first generation). Get the same error message that says they cannot be played on my iPad. I haven't watched either movie and this is the first time I have ever had this happen after several successful movie rentals and transfers.

This says that the maximum video size for an iPad is 1024x768 - your latest episode is 1280x720.
Slightly confusingly, it also says

which suggests that mp4 files are even more limited.

However when downloaded this produces a file called 'howtosetupappeid.mp4' so soe sort of redirect appears to be in place, and these can sometimes cause trouble. It's better to link directly to the file - it's possible that the iPad doesn't handle the redirect.
That's all I can suggest: if it still doesn't cover the problem I can only refer you to the iPad forum where someone may be able to actually try your podcast and offer a comment. -
I can't burn a cd of my own created music. I either get the error 4261, or after "Checking media" the process stops and nothing further happens. Have tried different burn speeds and cds. Have re-installed iTunes.Any suggestions please?
wm0203Sounds like the CD drive died. Luckily they cost next to nothing to replace. Or get an external LaCie instead. I have a dual G4 1.25 and the CD drive was always so anemic I use a LaCie Porsche with it.

I am feeling so ripped off right now. I have wanted a Mac for years and believed the hype about it's stability and I have had more trouble with this Imac 2011 than I have ever had with a pc. It locks up with several software products from APP store. I have already had to have a technician to look at it and really couldn't figure out what the deal was. I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.helpviewer.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac, try the Help menu.
If you need help finding that file, hold down the Finder icon in the Dock then click: New Finder Window. From the menu bar top of your screen click: Go > Go to Folder. Type this in exactly as you see it here: ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist That will take you right to that file.
(.plist) files stores information about a particular app or in this case, the Help viewer. Often times deleting the .plist file resolves the issue.
It's fine to "unload"... we understand that you expect your iMac to be stable but there are times when things go awry. That's why we have these forums so that you can you get help.

I can't open the browser. I double click and nothing happens. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but every time I do this it tells me I have to close Firefox first! I have restarted and then tried downloading to no avail b/c I get the same message.

i have lost many of my music files and some video files from i movie projects,after downloading OSX 10.9 Mavericks .My previous Original i movie has lost some also. The projects just have a green bar where the music files were. The system says cannot locte missing file.

I recently had a data transfer from my older mac to my newer one. After the transfer I logged into my new account and opened up my GarageBand. It worked perfectly fine, however when I logged into my old account with all my older data that I just transferred over, I could not open my GarageBand files and there is an error that states "GarageBand error after data transfer that states "This song requires a newer version of GarageBand. Please update to the latest version of GarageBand before opening this song".If anyone could please help me with this issue, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thank You!
When you transferred your data from your old mac, you may have accidentally transferred an older GarageBand version and either overwritten your newer version, or your old account still has the old GarageBand icon in the Dock.
Search with SpotLight, if you have more than one Garageband version on your new Mac (type "GarageBand" into the SpotLight search field). Does it list more than one GarageBand version? Then delete the older GarageBand.app.
What GarageBand version have you been using at your old mac, and what is the version on your new mac? If it has been bought recently, it should have come with GarageBand '11.
