Trying to use Crystal Reports XI Release 2  to display a report

I am creating an application in Visual Basic using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005.  I have downloaded the trial version of Crystal Reports XI and I have built my report and have attached to the Crystal Viewer that is on my form in my application.  I use a set up program to deploy my application.  I have 2 issues when I try to display the report:
1. When I install the application on my system that I have been developing on the reports will display but it is looking at the wrong server for the data and I am not sure where I need to change this information at.
2. When I install this application on the user's machine the report will not even display and I get and error of Could not load file or assembly Crystal Decisions Windows Forms.
I have an idea as to why these errors are happening but I am not sure exactly how or where to go to correct them.  I rebuilt my set up project and now when i build it it comes up with lots of warnings that say Two or more objects have the same target location.
If there is anyone that can help me with these problems I would appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

For the first issue, you need to make sure you add logic in your code that will change the database information to point to a different data source at runtime. Usually you will design the report against a development database server, and then after deploying to a test/prod server, you will need to point the report to a different datasource. The CR .NET SDK provides APIs that will allow you to specify datasources at runtime. There's a lot of content on this topic so I suggest searching the BOBJ kbase or checking out the DevLibrary for more information.
As for the 2nd issue, sounds like you've downloaded the merge modules from our website. If not, please do so, so that you have the latest versions of the runtime components. However, those warnings are just warnings so you can ignore them and safely run your setup on your target machines. I think there was a kbase on his topic as well but I can't seem to find it at this time.

  • Problem using Crystal Reports 2008 with DB/C FS ODBC Datasource.

    HI,
    I'm trying to use Crystal Reports 2008 to connect to an ODBC datasource that using the DB/C FS driver from dbcsoftware (www.dbcsoftware.com).  When I connect to the source and add a table it shows all string fields as 255 characters long when that is not the case in the data definition for the driver.
    This issue has been brought up and resolved in previous versions of Crystal Reports.  In Crystal Reports XI it was ADAPT ticket 00307997.  It's worth noting that even though this issue says it was resolved in version XI with service pack 4 I still experience it in that version of CR as well.
    If anyone has a solution to this for Crystal Reports 2008 please share.
    Thank you,
    David Guthu

    Hi David,
    Looking over the Adapt it was fixed in CR XI R2 Service Pack 4. CR XI is not the same so not sure if this is a typo or not.
    I don't see a branch for CR 2008 so I'll create one for you but this may be a different issue. The adapt was for all fields coming back as 65K and not 255. Also this was tracked in 2004 and fixes created for all versions of Cr at the time. These fixes get rolled forward so I'm thinking FS changed their driver with their latest build or at some earlier build.
    Note from Developer:
    DBCFS ODBC driver return meta data (e.g. column type) as SQL_DOUBLE instead of SQL_NUMERIC.
    ODBC bind as SQL_DOUBLE or SQL_NUMERIC but always retrieve data (in this case column type) as SQL_NUMERIC.
    Have you contacted FS to see if they have any patches or updates available? Are they following ANSII 92 Standards?
    To build a business case for this issue can you purchase a single support case, once it's been resolved you can get a refund, the reason being it adds more weight to the issue and we can escalate it at a higher level. Otherwise it goes in as a low priority issue and no fix date set.
    Also, we can then pass files back and forth etc. which we can not do through forums.
    Can you turn on ODBC tracing? I would like to see what the trace file shows.
    Thank you
    Don

  • How to use Crystal Reports XI release 2 Preview with Lotus Notes  Scripts ?

    <br />Hi all,<br /><br /> How to use Crystal Reports XI release 2 Preview with Lotus Notes 7 Scripts ?<br /><br /> <br /><br />Thank&#39;s  <br />

    Hi,
    we are using Lotus Notes and Crystal Reports for preview and printing reports from our Lotus Notes Applications. We use the RDC object model. For previewing the reports we export them in an pdf-file and then start the PDF Reader to show the Preview. This works fine.
    But with Crystal Reports > 11 the RDC Object Model is no longer supportet, so we look for another way to preview and print our reports.
    I try to preview a report build with crystal report XI release 2 in my thick client (Lotus Notes) using java reporting component JRC, this report uses an native xml file as datasource. If the datasource is saved with the report everything works fine, but otherwise I have the following error:
    JRCAgent1 detected an exception: javax.xml.namespace.QName: method getPrefix()Ljava/lang/String; not found
    I also tried the .jars from Crystal4Eclipse. Doesn't work. When I use Eclipse to view the report everything works fine. The class QName exitsts in the jaxrpc.jar and in the xbean.jar, but only in the xbean.jar a Methode getPrefix exists.
    This is what we tried:
    Works fine with RDC. Doesn't work with JRC until now.
    Did this help you ?
    Perhaps you con help me with the JRC, because I'm a java newbee so any ideas could be helpful.

  • Logon Failed using Crystal Report XI

    I wrote a VB 6 app that has the CRViewer and calls (.rpt's). The ".rpt's" use a MS Access 2003 database. This database DOES NOT have any security in the way of passwords. This application runs on a "stand-alone" system NO SERVER IS INVOLVED.
    The program and Crystal Reports work fine on my system. About a week ago, I tried to install Crystal Reports Release 2. I had a lot of problems. I deleted it and re-installed CR from my install cd's. Ever since then, I have had the following problem:
    I use MS Package and Deployment system to create the "Setup and Install" package. Ever since the above problem with Release 2, when I install and run the package on a different system, when I try to access the reports, I am getting a "Logon Failed" error message. PRIOR to trying to install Release 2, I never had this error message. I have no idea what is causing the problem.
    I even deleted and recreated the database--same problem exist.
    I have a very small scale-down version of this app. Is there any way I can send a "zip" file to you?
    Please, I have a deadline on this project. I need some serious help ASAP.
    In an effort to help resolve this problem, here is code from the scaled-down version: Prior to running this code, ReportPath = App.Path and ReportName = "Report1.rpt"
    This code is from my CRVIEWER form:
    Private Sub Form_Activate()
    Set craxreport = craxapp.OpenReport(ReportPath & "\" & ReportName)
        If ReportName = "Report1.rpt" Then
        End If
    DoReport:
        DoEvents
    ' ==============================================================================
        Screen.MousePointer = vbHourglass
        crviewer1.Refresh
        crviewer1.Zoom "100"
        While crviewer1.IsBusy
            DoEvents
        Wend
        crviewer1.ReportSource = craxreport
        crviewer1.Refresh
        crviewer1.ViewReport
        crviewer1.Refresh
        Set craxreport = Nothing
        Screen.MousePointer = vbDefault
    End Sub
    Private Sub Form_Load()
    Set craxapp = CreateObject("Crystalruntime.application.11")
    End Sub
    Private Sub Form_Resize()
    Me.Height = Screen.Height
    Me.Width = Screen.Width
    Me.Top = 0
    Me.Left = 0
    crviewer1.Top = 0
    crviewer1.Height = Me.ScaleHeight
    crviewer1.Width = Me.ScaleWidth
    frmCRPrint.Refresh
    End Sub
    This code is the "Connection" string:
    Public ReportPath As String
    Public craxapp As New CRAXDRT.Application
    Public craxreport As CRAXDRT.Report
    Public CRXDatabaseField As CRAXDRT.DatabaseFieldDefinition
    Public ReportName As String
    Public pconSports As ADODB.Connection
    Public Sub OpenConnections()
    Set pconSports = New ADODB.Connection
            pconSports.ConnectionString = "Provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0;Data Source=" & App.Path & "\Sports.mdb" & ";Persist Security Info=False"
            ReportPath = App.Path
        pconSports.Mode = adModeReadWrite
        pconSports.Open

    OK, a few details to go over.
    You do not need all of the below references:
    Crystal ActiveX Report Viewer Library 11.0
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Design and Runtime Library 11.0
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Library 11.0
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Run Time Library 11.0
    As long as you are not using report creation APIs, you only need
    Crystal ActiveX Report Viewer Library 11.0
    Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Run Time Library 11.0
    Which means you'd be using the craxdrt.dll (Dim myApp as New Craxdrt.Application), and the MSM files you need would be; crystalreports11_RDC_Runtime.msm, crystalreports11_RDC_license.msm (you need to add the keycode to this) and crystalreports11_RDC_reportEngine.msm.
    If you are using report creation APIs, you do not need Crystal Reports ActiveX Designer Run Time Library 11.0.
    Re. creation of deployment package:
    I reloaded CR XI on my Development System Build 11.0.0.895
    I installed CR XI on my other PC(Test) Build 11.0.0.895
    During the creation of the Install Package using MS Package and Deployment System
    I do not believe the MS Package and Deployment Wizard that came with VB 6 can handle MSM files(?). To use MS files, you have to use something like MS Visual Installer, InstallShield, Wise, etc.

    Venkat,
    Thanks for your response. Please note, however, the transaction RAD1 does not exist. Let me provide more details about the current settings of the InfoObject.
    The Characteristic is 'Item' (0CS_ITEM) and upon going to RSA1 >  Modeling > InfoObjects > Item (0CS_ITEM) > Right Click > Display > Business Explorer (tab) > Text Type is set to 'Long Text' and BEx description is set to 'Long description' already.
    When I run/execute the query with this Item characteristic, the results in BEx Analyzer is showing appropriate long text, however, Crystal Report for Enterprise shows short text only

  • Error when trying to patch Crystal Report 10

    Hi, I'm having problem when trying to apply patches on PC running on Windows 7 64bit. Below is the error msg I got:
    [http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/845/errorcy.jpg/]
    It seemed to be something to do with the registry as I was unable to find crystal report entries under ''HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Crystal Decisions\Crystal Reports\......" but all the .dll files were found under "C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Crystal Decisions........." though.
    Anyone able to help? Thanks..

    Hello,
    Are you using the full Crystal Reports Designer itself? Or are you using a bundled edition of Crystal Reports that ships with Visual Studio?
    Also, are you trying to patch Crystal Reports 10 itself - the actual report designer? Or are you trying to update runtime files for an application you created using the CR10 runtime files and deployed to a client machine?
    Crystal Reports 10 (full, stand alone version) was never tested on Win7. CR10 reached End of Life for patch support on June 8, 2007. There's no expectation that CR10 will install or work correctly on the Win7 operating system. It's possible that it might work anyway, but I'd be surprised if there weren't any issues.
    If you want to keep trying make sure you're using the correct patch for the product you're using. A patch for the full version of Crystal Reports will not work on a machine that is using the bundled edition of CR that ships with Visual Studio. They're not interchangeable. You didn't say which file you ran when you tried applying the patch.
    Sincerely,
    Dan Kelleher

  • Sub report group tree in main report Using crystal report 12

    Hi experts,
        I have a strange requirement like, same data needs to be grouped two different ways in a same report.  Like
    Store1:
        Summary of sales on each item chart
    Store2:
        Summary of sales on each item chart
    .....it goes like this
    Department1(multiple stores)
          summary of sale on each item chart - store1
          summary of sale on each item chart - store2
         --........ it goes
    Department2
          summary of sale on each item chart - store3
    --........ it goes
       Its in single report, the first part is grouped only with store and in second part the store is under department. How to do this in same report?
        I achieved  this by creating a sub report to display the first part of data and in the main report sup report data plus the second part of data will be displayed. And its working well but now the problem is the group tree, I'm not able to see the sub report group tree in the main report.
       How to get the sub report group tree in the main report, Or is there any other better way is there so i can get both the data as well the group tree. Please help me to solve this. CryCryCry
    I'm using crystal report 2008(installed separately) with Visual Studio2008 (.Net3.5)
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi
    Thanks for the reply.
        Yea both data source are same(Datasource is SQL Stored Procedure). I cant use like that, because my client needs the group tree also. In case if there is no group tree, we can create one more group and supress it conditionaly. But here the problem is there is no way to suppress any of the group item in group tree as we can do it in the detail section.
        So please me with some different ways and also , please clarrify the following doubts
    1. Can we supress one or more items in the group tree.
    2. Can we get the sub report group tree in main report(Everything is working when i used the sub reports except the group tree). So I'm trying for different ways to do, but none is helping me
    Please help me

  • Deploy Visual Basic 6.0 RDC application using Crystal Reports 9 on Windows Vista

    Post Author: albe
    CA Forum: General
    When attempting to deploy a Visual Basic 6.0 Report Designer Component (RDC) application using Crystal Reports 9 on Windows Vista systems, the application fails after the first print or preview (that show normally) and an error occurred: -2147417848 Method '' of object '' failed.
    The app use the RDC and Active Data; I verify that the problem is encountered when the app calls the 'SetDataSource' method.
    I tried everything that came in my mind: reinstalling it a few times, with administrator priviledges, disabling uac, manually registering dlls, ...
    I hope that this will be fixed, since Crystal Report 9 is the last CR version compatible with windows 98.
    thanks in advance,

  • Problems with concurrency tests using Crystal Reports for VS 2005

    Post Author: condeagustin
    CA Forum: General Feedback
    Hi
    My name is Agustin and Im using Crystal Reports for VS 2005
    and NET 2.0 to generate pdf files. This is the scenario:
    I created a COM+ object in c# and everytime the
    COM+ creates an instance of this object, the following flow is executed:
    it reads an xml file from a database, then it feeds the report with this
    xml file, afterwards it generates a pdf file and finally this pdf file is
    inserted into the database. Both fields (xml and pdf fields) are varbinary in the
    same table in sql server 2005. All the flow from reading the xml to inserting
    the pdf into the database is executed in memory, it never goes to the hard
    disk. In other words both the xml and the pdf file are stored in memory (the
    RAM). That is the only function of that COM+ object and I already have it in a
    production server and it works GREAT!!
    The PROBLEM is the concurrency tests. I made the following tests
    in the same production server:
    1. First I went to the registry and I set the PrintJobLimit to
    100 in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWARECrystal Decisions10.2Report Application
    ServerServer
    2. I shut down the object in the COM+ and I executed 100
    threads all at the same time. Each thread created one instance of the object in
    the COM+ and the 100 pdfs were generated SUCCESFULLY in 5 minutes!!
    3. Then I executed again 100 threads (WITHOUT shutting down the
    object in the com+). 10 pdfs were generated succesfully but the rest were
    never generated and there was no exception because my object was NEVER
    INSTANTIADED in the COM+, I mean, the 90 instances were never created in the
    COM+, so my object was never executed, THAT IS MY PROBLEM!! Do I have to
    modify something in the registry files of crystal reports to fix this? What can
    I do? I have revised the code in that object a LOT OF TIMES and believe me,
    everything is being closed and disposed at the end (the memory streams, the
    ReportClass objects, the connection to the database, even the dataset used to
    store the data of the xml file!
    So to sum up the problem is not with the execution of my object
    (cause once is created the object works great and the pdf is generated
    perfectly!), the problem is with the com+ TRYING to create another instance
    of my object given that test scenario. Help me please, What do you
    suggest?
    The production server has this specifications:
    Operative System: Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition with Service Pack 2
    Processor: Dual Core AMD Opteron 2212 2.00GHz
    RAM: 820MB
    Hard drive: It is partitioned in 2 drives --> C
    drive has 20GB and D has 60GB
    Note: Each generated pdf has only one page and if you bring it
    to disk its maximum size is 56KB
    I hope your answer and thank you

  • Getting an error trying to install Crystal Reports 2008 on a 64 bit Windows

    reformatted my computer and now I'm trying to install Crystal Reports 2008 on 64 bit windows 7 box.  When the "Registering modules" portion of the install comes up, I get a message that a dll has failed to register.  I saw something about not having the Microsoft Visual c++ 2005 redistributable pack (x86) installed but that was not it either.
    The cd label say Crystal Reports to Crystal Reports 2008 Upgrade, but it does not seem like I have to have the older version of Crystal insatlled.
    Any ideas how to fix this ?

    Hello together,
    i've had the same problem. Tried to install CR SP 2 "cr2008win_sp2.exe" onto an existing CR 2008 SP1 installation, and got the above error. After extracting the cr2008win_sp2.exe to an folder using Winzip (or just start Installation, the source would be extracted to "c:\temp" ), navigate to the subfolder "\package" and execute the CrystalReports.msp (in my case: c:\temp\package\CrystalReports.msp). This start's the Installation of SP 2. If you get an version mismatch, use parameter SKIP_PATCH_VERSION_CHECK=1 by typing command in an dos prompt "c:\temp\package\CrystalReports.msp SKIP_PATCH_VERSION_CHECK=1" but remember, you need to have an SP1 installed (somebody said, SP's are incremental).
    Reboot and apply then the  CR 2008 SP2 FixPack 7 "cr2008fp27.exe". Use this Link to Download CR and Xcelsius Stuff:
    [https://service.sap.com/sap/bc/bsp/spn/bobj_download/main.htm]
    I would suggest you not to use IE for downloading, use an alternative browser. I got only bad downloads (IE8 on Win7).
    This is the way i did and this works pretty good.
    Good Luck

  • How to set DbConnections when scheduling a crystal report using Crystal Reports Server Java SDK?

    Post Author: Manjula
    CA Forum: JAVA
    Hi,
    Trying to schedule a report using Crystal Reports Server Java SDK. Want to pass DBConnections from API, though passing DBConnections, the report is not being scheduled and says "Failed to retrieve data from the database.Details:&#91;Database Vendor Code:6550&#93;.
    Would be thankful if someone could answer my point as applicable.
    Here is the code attached.
    ISDKList dbLogons = oReport.getReportLogons();int dbLogonSize = dbLogons.size();
    for(int i=0; i<dbLogonSize; ++i) {
    IReportLogon dbLogon = (IReportLogon)dbLogons.get(i);
    dbLogon.setDatabaseName("DBname");
    dbLogon.setUserName("usrname");
    dbLogon.setPassword("pwd");
    Thanks in advance.

    Ted,
    Thank you for your valuable information.
    First, tried scheduling on Central Management Console and then with the java code.It worked fine, but here is another question for you.
    On the Console, a report exists with ServerName and UserName harcoded and when trying to set ServerName and UserName from the java code, its throwing exception. Where as Password is not set on Console, am able to set password from java.
    And DatabaseName is not set on Console (non editable), unable to set the same from java too. Why is it so?
    So, my question is - though ServerName,DatabaseName,UserName,Password exists on the Console report, can't I override those parameters from java?
    Would be greatful if you answer my question and provide me some guidance.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Using Crystal Report Data Connection in Xcelcius 2008

    The documentation does not explain how data to populate row, column and details is passed to SWF.
    Can some-one please point how CR Data Connection when created in Xcelcius 2008 is used in Crystal Report Design time ? Is it through Flash variables? Basically more details are needed for "when setup properly" clause. How to map Crystal Reports Fields to Xcelcius Definitions.
    Thanks
    Harish Tejwani
    From Doc:
    "With the release of Crystal Reports 2008, it is now possible to embed an Xcelsius-generated SWF file into a Crystal Report and have the SWF consume data from that report. When set up properly, refreshing the data in your Crystal Report will update the embedded SWF.
    To configure your Xcelsius SWF to consume data from its Crystal Rport source data, you must open the Data Manager in Xcelsius and add a new Crystal Report Data Consumer connection. After adding the connection, bind the following ranges to your spreadsheet:  Row Headers, Column Headers, Data"
    "Using Crystal Reports 2008, embed the SWF file into the Crystal Report source data file. When designing your Crystal Report, you will determine what fields/data populate the Row Headers, Comumn Headers, and Data ranges that were designated in your Xcelsius SWF. When set up properly, refereshing your Crystal Report will also refresh the data being sent to and consumed by the embedded SWF. See"

  • Data in DataSets, but error when trying to populate Crystal Report

    I have been in the process of making changes to a legacy application as described in this post.  [Error received on windows application|Error received on windows application]
    I have changed the references from 10.0 to 10.2.  The application included references to CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Design, CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.Framework and CrystalDecisions.Enterprise.InfoStore which did not have a comparable version in 10.2, so for the moment I have removed them.
    I have then tried to run the application (compiles fine) and run into this error:
    A first chance exception of type 'System.Exception' occurred in CrystalDecisions.CrystalReports.Engine.dll
    The code where it fails is here, when it is trying to load it into the report:
            private void SendDailyRentalDataToCrystal()
                crystalFailure = false;
                try
                    crystalDailyRentalReport.Database.Tables["ReportParameters"].SetDataSource(dsDailyRentalParameters);
                    crystalDailyRentalReport.Database.Tables["ReportData"].SetDataSource(dsDailyRentalData);
                catch
                    crystalFailure = true;
                    string error = "Unable to generate the Daily Rental Report.
                    error += "There was a problem sending the data to Crystal Reports.";
                    System.Windows.Forms.MessageBox.Show(error, "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);
    The DataSet visualizers for dsDailyRentalParameters and for dsDailyRentalData both indicate that there is valid data being returned from SQL Server.  This code is part of a Win32 application developed using VS 2005 and the reports were originally developed using Crystal Reports 10.
    Thanks for any help that you can provide.

    Ludek-
    It appears that during the course of trying to rectify the CR versioning issues that I had, I altered the functionality of the application.  This morning I reverted back to the previous version of my application and started over on the changes.  After all, I only had a couple small changes to make.
    I now have a functioning application.  However, I am not sure exactly what the cause of the last issue that I was fighting or how to fix it.
    Anyway, thanks much for the assistance that you provided.
    Regards,
    Scott
