TS1506 I have just got a Mac Book Pro after 30 years of using Msoft products and now find a (in my opinion) a piddling issue with attachments in Mail - Apple - just fix it.
After over forty years in IT I am actually a platform agnostic however I have come to expect some developmental maturity across all products, especially in generally ubiquitous apps such as email. I am using OS X 10.8.3 on a 2013 build Mac Book Pro and am very happy overall. Is Apple planning on fixing the various problems with Attachments in Mail or are they relying on third party fixes and workarounds?
My apologies if I have caused offence, not my intention. I was unable to view attachements but have since discovered an addon app which solves the problem very neatly. By way of explanation my frustration comes from Apple appearing to indulge in client lock in as do Microsoft - this practice was "invented" by IBM and only served to irritate clients and inspire excellent work arounds by third parties - much the same as I notice with Apple. I thought Apple would have outgrown this after the IIe vs BBC but I see this is not the case. I have recently upgraded to Mavericks and have no problems with Mail but am now unable to transfer material from Mac Pro to Ipod unless I use the icloud - something I do not want to do for a variety of reasons, not the least being able to transfer MY data without the use of an unsecured transition area. I am very happy with the quality of the Mac Pro but less than happy with the restrictive practices of Apple; I realise Microsoft have similar practises but they are not as completely disruptive to what are generally simple operations commonly required when using computers.
My thanks to all the others who reponded - this is my first foray into the world of forums and I will continue to learn the rules.

Are you sharing the same iCloud account as your daughter? If so, that would explain why your contacts are merged. To fix this, you would need to migrate her device(s) to her own iCloud account. After doing so, you could then delete her contacts from your Mac without effecting the contacts on her device(s).
As far as messages, do you have your own iPhone? -

hi, well i just got my mac book pro, and it worked perfectly yesterday but then when i opened it today to go on FaceTime, my picture/video was dark and red ! how do i get it back to normal? there is a green light next to the camera when im on photobooth/facetime,...
Just do a restart. It seems to clear it up.

I've just purchased a mac book pro. It has crashed and won't boot. The keyboard doesn't function and i have no install disc for the original os. What can i do?

If that works, note the 4 option menu. Select Disk Utility>First Aid and verify and repair the disk.

If neither works, it suggests that your MBP came with Snow Leopard. You will need replacement disks which can be ordered from Apple customer service. Have the serial number of the MBP handy and there is a charge.

You may already have one. E-mail servers provide support for POP or IMAP, and sometimes both. How you access the account depends on how you set it up on your device. You'll need to check with your e-mail provider and see if they support accessing your account via IMAP. If they do, you'll need to re-create the account on both the Mac and the iPhone to use the IMAP settings instead of the POP settings. (Note that when you delete a POP account, all e-mail in the In box will be deleted. Move any e-mail you don't want to lose into an "On My Mac" mailbox on the Mac beforehand.)
Also, if you have set the iPhone to sync e-mail messages in iTunes, turn that off. You won't need that with IMAP. -

Downloaded roxio, windows 2011, parallels 8 and toast 11, although found that this did not have blue ray capability so bought toast 11 hd/blue ray plug-in installer. The problem I have is that the samsung se-506 still will not play blue rays, any ideas as to what or where I am going wrong.
Also how do you de-install programmes?

My old power book used an older version of iphoto, when I bought my macbook pro recently I tried to upload, from an external drive, my backed up files. The program opens with all the relevant folders down the left side but none of the image files will open; the boxes that would contain them are there, but greyed out.
I am now using iphoto '11 version 9.4.2, the original images that Im trying to recover from the ext HD are iphoto version 6. The EXT HD is formatted for mac and has been ok for all my other files that have been backed up.
When I boot up iphoto version 11 it looks like it always does and will open my current library of images. If I try to get images from the ext hd in this program the folder info is ok (down the left side) but the image boxes are greyed out. -
Using migration assistant I transferred the Adobe CS3 Premium to my new 2014 iMac. It is listed in applications but when I go to open it only Bridge opens, the others have a notice that cannot open and to contact administrator. I have the serial number - would that help? I don't see any place to enter it tho.

I just bought a Mac Book Pro and the Appstore show one upgrade of iPhoto (9.2.1). I started a section with my Apple ID (the account that I have I use to iTunes) but when I try to update it says that there are upgrades available for other accounts and that I have to upgrade using the account that I used to buy iPhoto. I am new to mac, but i keep reading about Mountain lion. I just bought my Mac book Pro less then a month ago. my current software is OS X 10.8.2, Do i already have mountain lion? How do I check to see?
As the others have stated, you're on Mountain Lion with 10.8, anything. But you can check your version of the software by going to the apple in the upper left corner of the screen and clicking it and selecting "About This Mac". That will open a box that shows your software version. Once there you can click on "More Info" that will tell you everything about your specific mac configuration.
