TS1550 When backing up my iMac to the time machine I get the following message, 'The backup disk image "volumes/Data/My Name iMac(7).sparsebundle" is already in use". The backup is not completed. Any thoughts on what do to get the backups going again?
The auto backup to my time machine has developed a glitch which prevents the backing up of the iMac. The message is as follows:
'The backup disk image "/volumes/data/Name iMac(7).sparsebundle" is already in use.
Any ideas on how to fix.
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Restart the iMac and Time Capsule. In most of the cases, this should solve that problem. If it doesn't work, read > http://pondini.org/TM/C12.html

Hi folks - I didn't see my issue answered here, so I thought I would just toss it out there in case anyone had advice.
My error message is: The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Michael's MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use.
Thoughts?Look on the right hand side .. more like this.. I am surprised you can have missed it.. we get about 10 requests a day now to fix it.. especially since Mountain Lion has made it 10x worse.

My normally reliable Time Machine is giving following error message;-
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/JOE OTOOLE’s Computer.sparsebundle” is already in use.
What does it mean and how do I deal with it?I have loaded it into ML using a great and free utility unpkg.. it probably works much the same as Pacifist.
Locate your downloaded 5.6 dmg file.. click it so you can see the pkg but don't bother opening it.
Download, install and run unpkg.
http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Drag the airport utility 5.6 pkg over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory on the desktop.. named AirPortUtility56.. drill down to Applications, Utilities and you will find the unpackaged utiity.. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it where you are.. -

How do you stop it happening again?

I already tried C12, no luck. I did read C17, but that did not help either.
I agree that Apple should really spend a bit more time on ensuring this common problem is resolved more quickly
But where to do you sent this request to? Doesn't seem easy to find a person to send it to.
I dumped by corporate wIn-pc environment that I was forced to use for the past ...forever. Have been delighted with the Mac experience..... for 24 months..but these type of un-resolved matters with terse error messages reminds me of the bad old days.
I had the problem 2 weeks ago and solved it by "clicking about" after reading the forum Can't remember what i did though. V. V. V. frustrating when the Mac is a business tool. I don't want to be a mechanic, I want to be a driver.
Thanks again for your help -
Time Machine fails with this error: "The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/Barbara’s MacBook Pro.sparsebundle” is already in use."
Can anyone assist me in correcting the problem causing this? Thanks.Reboot the TC.. Sometimes you need to reboot the whole network.
This is what comes of Lion and then made worse in Mountain Lion of Apple not spending enough time to fix the bugs.
Read C12 in pondini.

C17 can be related I think. -

How to resolve the following time capsule error message:
The backup disk image “/Volumes/Data/XXXX Computer.sparsebundle” is already in use.If you are running Mountain Lion try this:
Open AirPort Utility (If you are in Mountain Lion this will be 6.0 or Higher)
Select you Time Capsule
Select the Disk Tab
Deselect "Enable File Sharing"
Click OK Let the Time Capsule Re-Boot
Go Back into AirPort Utility and re-select "Enable File Sharing" and let it Re-Boot again.
This should fix the problem.
If you are not running Mountain Lion the advice provided by other should work (http://pondini.org/TM/C12.html). The main thing is to reset users. -
What does this mean and How do I correct it? Kelly
It means that there are bugs in Lion and Mountain Lion.
Pull the power cord from the back of the Time Capsule
Count to 10
Plug the power cord back in to the back of the Time Capsule
This simple reset will fix the issue about 98% of the time. If you are in the 2% category, you will need more "fixes"
The Backup disk image ... sparsebundle ... is already in use. -
Why would my computer start only printing "blurred images" of my documents.... And now I get this message about my Time Machine backups?
You have two different issues. One is a problem with your printer and one is a Time Machine problem. You'll need to contact your printer support to find out why your printer is not working.
You should be posting your Time Machine issue in the Time Machine section but straight from the linked articles to the right side of this page:

Please can someone tell me what is going on when I get this message for the Time Capsule?
Yes, this is because Lion or ML which you are using have lousy networking.
The trick is simply reboot the TC..
Or on Lion use the 5.6 utility and disconnect all users.
For ML sorry.. Apple decided you don't need that function any more!!.

Read C12.. I think C17 is also related.
