How do I download the songs I purchased from itunes onto my older ipod nano...I believe it is a 2nd generation? I plug it into my computer, but nothing happens!!!

To be able to sync music from iTunes to your iPod nano, the music will need to be on the computer rather than streaming from iTunes in the Cloud. Do you see your iPod under Devices on the left side of the iTunes window in the source list when it's connect to your Mac?
BTW... you sync iTunes media from the tabs in the iTunes menu, not from the File menu unless you are transferring iTunes purchases from the iPod to your Mac.
Might need to zoom to see this graphic. I have "Music" selected as an example.

Do you know --- the last time I tried to back up my itunes it asked for 106 cd's do you how to direct the backup to the external drive? By the way I found 3 back up cds from 2010 and 1 of the 3 cd's had an error.

Hi, Thank you for the help. I downloaded the new ITunes 10.1 as instructed. I found the Old Itunes library folder. But when I tried to import it to my current Itunes library, it gives an error message:
"The file "iTunes Library 2011-03-22.it" cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file."
I don't know how else I can import the songs from this old library to the current Itunes library. Please advise.

iTunes said i needed to update my iPod then when it was done it deleted all of my content. All of my pictures, music, apps, and downloads are completely gone. I bought an album from iTunes that I want to sync or download to my iPod. When I looked for directions on how to do this, it told me to go into iTunes, click on Music, and then click on Sync. But when I click on Music on the lefthand side, it is only a choice between Music, Videos, etc...Please, I know the answer is obvious, but I cannot figure out how to do it!

1) Plug in your iPod.
2) Wait for an 'iPod' button to appear at the top right corner of iTunes.
3) Open that.
4) Go to the 'Music' tab.
5) Sync music.
WARNING: This WILL delete all your music you had on your iPod prior to this.
To add songs without syncing:
1) Create an iTunes playlist with the songs you wish to add.
2) Repeat steps 1 - 3 above.
3) Go to the 'On this iPod' tab.
4) Select your playlist you just made on the bar at the bottom of the list beside the 'Autofill from...' prompt.
5) Press 'Autofill'.

ok so i just purchased thriller.. it had the bell icon by it, but then i cant figure out how to make it a ringtone now..
it keeps telling me to purchase it again after i edit it to the ringtone i want.

Yes it is a 2 part purchase
Part 1: You buy the full version
Part 2: You Edit the song to a ringtone that you like, and then purchase that ringtone.
You then own that ringtone and that full song, If at anytime you decide you do not like the ringtone you can always edit the full version of the song again and purchase another ringtone.
Once you bought it it goes to the Ringtone area of iTunes, To later be an option to Sync to iPhone

Sounds like you have abn expired credit card linked o yoru accopunt.
View your iTunes account payment info and select None for the CC.
You may need to first add a valid card number before you can remove it.

I did what you suggested and everything worked well. I was able to shorten the song in Jasmine, but once saved, I wasn't able to bring it into my slideshow in Imovie. I believe it was saved as an AIFF file after I shortened it. Any ideas as to why I can't import or open it?

Connect the iPod to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (if you have iTunes 11 on your computer then you can enable the sidebar via option-command-S on a Mac, control-S on a PC), and then on the right-hand side you can use the Music tab to select which of your music that you want on the iPod.

I would do a transfer of purchases from the phone and not sync. If you sync then it will want to start over and sync music that is on the MacBook Pro. If you want to transfer the music, check out the article below that will give you multiple options on how to move. I have also provided on how to sync with multiple computers.
