TS3276 Email account always offline???

My email account information always show my account as offline. I receive most messages but must always specify my account manually to gp online. what need I do? Only happens on my Macbook. On my imac the same account functions fine.

I'm having the same issue. It started a couple weeks ago when I changed the password of one of my iMap accounts. I've repaired permissions, deleted the keychain password items associated with the problem account and even deleted com.apple.mail.plist located in my home directory->library->preferences. None of these actions has solved the problem. I've searched the rest of the Internet but haven't found any suggestions for actions other than those already tried. This particular email account works fine with another client on my Android phone and via webmail so having an incorrect password isn't the problem.
Do you know of any files containing cached information that can be safely trashed?
As I type this it occurs to me that I didn't empty my trash after deleting the com.apple.mail.plist file. I'll try that now.

  • Cannot setup email account always asking for password

Just got the IPad3 and setting up my email account.  I tried setting it up the same way as my IPhone.  Had  the email account and password entered but when I exit, it gives me a message saying that it may not be able to send or received mail.  I don't know what else is missing from the setup.
When I try to open my email, it always asks for the password, entered the password again but does not open my email.
    Please help.
    Thank you.

Try a Reset [Hold the Home and Sleep/Wake buttons down together for 10 seconds or so (until the Apple logo appears) and then release. When the screen goes blank power On again in the normal way.] It is absolutely/appsolutely safe!

  • TS3276 email account passwords are constantly requested

I am using OS Lion and Mail and have 6 different email accounts running. All accounts work but periodically and I cant see an obvious pattern, various accounts ask me to input again the password for the account. I do this and always check the box to retain the password in the chain. But the password request will be made again at least once.
Has anyone experienced such a problem and is there an obvious reason and fix for this?
    Thanks.

  • Email accounts dropping offline/online-sometimes they work, sometimes not.

I have 6 different Gmail accounts set up to be managed via Apple Mail. Recently they're connectivity has been unstable. They will fluctuate from being online and offline. Two of my accounts have gone offline (at they Apple Mail end) completely. This is very disruptive not to mention irritating!
How can this be prevented and how to I reset whatever needs to be reset?

The problem is probably that when Mail checks for new mail, you have too many connections open with the same server at the same time. Some mail servers refuse connection attempts if they are too frequent, or limit the number of simultaneous connections that are allowed from the same IP address.
If that’s the problem, there is little you can do about it. Mail doesn’t let the user configure the maximum number of simultaneous connections.
Do you access any of those accounts some other way (e.g. webmail) while Mail is checking for mail?
What’s the time interval chosen in Mail > Preferences > General > Check for New Mail? If it’s set to Every minute, try changing it to Every 5 minutes.
Just in case this is a network issue rather than a server issue, go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.

  • TS3276 Email accounts

Although we can send email, we have not been able to receive any in the last week. How can we fix this problem?

You could start by providing some information. Whose email service are you using? What email client software are you using? What have you tried so far?

  • My MacBook Pro can't send mail since Yosemite upgrade. I keep getting a message that the certificate is invalid, and it says that my account is "offline." This never happened before, very upset.

I upgraded to Yosemite yesterday afternoon on my MacBook Pro. It was an upgrade from the most recent Maverick version. I had already sent out several emails that day, but once the installation was complete, I couldn't send any mail at all. I kept getting this strange dialogue box that said the certificate for the server was invalid, and might be something "pretending" to be my server. It also keeps telling me that my email account is offline. The only account it shows as active is a Verizon POP account, but that doesn't work. I've tried using the Edit functions and the "doctor" functions, but they seem useless. I tried Help, but the instructions it gave included onscreen items I don't seem to have. This is awful, I've already missed deadlines and am desperate.

I have the same issue. My computer has also slowed down. I hope this isn't a malware. I haven't input my password into it, and dont know what I did to turn this on.
Hope someone else can give some insight

After upgrading to Yosemite, one of a few other problems, is that I can't connect to my Telus email account. I re-entered username, and password, I get a message that the password can't be transmitted securely, I go ahead anyway but it still doesn't connect, i called up Telus i spent 3 hours on the phone trying to resolve this problem , Telus got it back ,but only for a while, they finally gave up.I called Apple they got the Telus Email back , but still can not keep the server working, i really complained to apple about this new OS X update, and told them they are creating more problems , with those awful updates, they apologize , and trying to fix the problem, my TELUS account is still not working.I will try again tomorrow. What a day wasted on the phone

    Sorry for the delay...
I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.
    Thanks for the help, anyway!!

  • TS3276 Some of the email I always received in my Verizon email account is now going to trash.  How can I stop this?

Recently I found some of my email was going to trash instead of going to my account on Verizon where is used to ALWAYS go.  How do I fix this?

Here are the settings for my Leopard Mail client. Yours may be slightly different.
Remove any tick from 'Remove copy from server after retrieving message'.
To clarify my earlier remarks about mixing POP and IMAP. Unless you know what you are doing I don't advise:
Accessing any account on a mail server with both POP and IMAP
Setting up an email client to use both POP and IMAP
Item 1 is likely to be a problem for the unwary as POP only downloads messages from the server's Inbox so it will never see messages moved by IMAP. Also the default settings of many POP clients are set to automatically delete messages from the server's Inbox either immediately or after a specified time which can cause problems for IMAP.
Item 2 is less of a problem if the email accounts are different but I have known some email clients, especially Thunderbird after several upgrades, get their preferences in a mess doing this. It is also likely to cause some users to get confused because of the different ways in which POP and IMAP work.
My advice for those who have family members with some preferring IMAP and some POP is to set them up with either separate accounts on the computer or different email clients (eg one with Mail and the other with Thunderbird) on the one computer account so that both POP and IMAP are not being used by the same email client on the same computer account.
I stress that this advice is for less experienced users.

  • I have two email accounts on my MacBook Pro and iPhone.  My iPhone continues to send messages from either account that I choose.  My MacBook says that one of my email account outgoing mail servers is Offline?  How can I get that working again?

I have two email accounts on my MacBook Pro and iPhone that I have been using for a few years.  My phone works perfectly for both accounts.  Now one of my email accounts on the MacBook says the outgoing server is Offline?  How can I fix that so that both accounts send and receive email.  I have tried various things in settings but nothing seems to work.

  • On 3G we cannot send emails from either our iPhones or iPad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Email account.  What is causing this and what do we need to do to resolve it?

On 3G we cannot send  Business emails from either our iPhones or Ipad and this also happens with some WiFi connections but not all.  Yet we can always send emails from our Hotmail Account using both 3G and WiFi.
We bought the iPhones and Ipad so that we could send emails while we are out of the Office, but we are not able to do this unless we can find a WiFi connection. Incoming emails are fine.  We use IMAP, for Business emails just incase this is relevant and I know that Hotmail is POP3.
Our technical IT knowledge is not great, so we look forward to your suggestions as to how to resolve this.

Contact whomever supports the email account and get the correct Outgoing email server settings from them.
