TS3276 Mail was unable to find your reply to the message. You may have deleted the message.

Mail was unable to find your reply to the message “subject”. You may have deleted the message.
Using IMAP account. Just started happening last week.  Any suggestions?

NO suggestions for fixing it Frank, but I'm having the same exact problem.  I have taken to copying all messages before sending them, and sending them twice.  What a pain in the ... um, neck!

Apple Mail cannot find replies or forwarded emails -- the little arrows on the left of the list of emails: "Mail was unable to find your reply to the message '[subject of message]'. Of course they're in my Sent folder.  Then why can't Apple Mail find them?

  • Mail was unable to find your reply to the message ".....

I keep getting this message when I try to look for a reply from within mail by clicking on the reply arrow in the inbox that shows I've replied to the message:
"Mail was unable to find your reply to the message "...." You may have deleted the message."
    https://skitch.com/jasondebruler/rshsf/mail
This only happens when looking for sent items from my Exchange account. The feature works correctly on all of my gmail accounts.
I have verified in the preferences that this account is set up (box is checked) to properly "Store sent messages on the server".
Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks!

Cheers for that. Yes they match,  the sent folders are the same both locally and on the web interface.  They both updating almost instantly when i send something.
The problem is when replying, although both sent folder views contain the sent item, the little reply arrow cannot link to replied sent item.  I have attached an image of the message:

  • "Mail was unable to find your reply to the message... You may have deleted the message."

I'm experiencing some kind of corruption in Mail's ability to connect replies to messages.
The error I'm starting to get says this:
"Mail was unable to find your reply to the message... You may have deleted the message."
And these emails are no longer threading like conversations and when you click on the little "read reply" arrow icon it can't find the reply.
What could be up here please?!?!?
    Thanks!

    CT,
Thanks SO much for a reply.
Yes it survives a restart, but i had no idea about this "Rebuild" option.
    Trying that now!
    Cheers!

  • Why do I get a error saying mail was unable to find your reply. You may have deleted message.

when sending email, I sometimes get an error stating: Mail was unable to find your reply to:  You may have deleted message. This does not happen with every sent message but it is doing it more and more. The reply is no where to be found.

You posted in a 4 month old dead post.
You would do better by posting a "New Topic" in the OS/Mail forum area of which os you are using.  You will need to indicate which version os you are using as well as which version of Mail you are using in order to get the proper attention to your post.  This will help the users reading your post to suggest solutions.

  • Mail was unable to find your response

In the message viewer window, when you have responded to a msg, there is a little arrow icon. When you click on that icon, it's suppose to bring up your response. I have five email accounts (I know, I know, simplify) 1 .mac acct., 2 pop accts., and 2 IMAP accts.
I can use the response icon for all but one of the IMAP accounts (my main account of course).
So of the two IMAP accounts, the response icon works for one, but not the other. They have the exact same incoming mail server, and outgoing SMTP server, and they both are configured the same way in Acct Info, Behaviours, and Advanced settings. The only difference is the account user.
    I'm stumpped. Any ideas?

This is a problem that has been reported here quite a few times and for which no solution has been found yet. Doing some cache-cleaning, or even just restarting the computer, fixed the problem in some cases.
Read the following article for general troubleshooting and cache-cleaning procedures:
Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption
In particular, be sure to verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described there, and to read this as well:
Side effects of System cache cleaning
In addition to the utilities mentioned there for cache cleaning, you may also consider OnyX or Cache Out X, which are free.
Another thing that may be worth trying in your case is this:
    1. Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Mail/. Make a backup copy of this folder, just in case something goes wrong, e.g. by dragging it to the Desktop while holding the Option (Alt) key down. This is where all your mail is stored.
    3. Locate Envelope Index and move it to the Trash. If you see an Envelope Index-journal file there, delete it as well.
    4. Move the “IMAP-” account folders to the Trash. Note that you can do this with IMAP-type accounts because they store mail on the server and Mail can easily re-create them. DON’T trash any “POP-” account folders, as that would cause all mail stored there to be lost.
    5. Open Mail. It will tell you that your mail needs to be “imported”. Click Continue and Mail will proceed to re-create Envelope Index -- Mail says it’s “importing”, but it just re-creates the index if the mailboxes are already in Mail 2.x format.
    6. As a side effect of having removed the IMAP account folders, those accounts may be in an “offline” state now. Do Mailbox > Go Online to bring them back online.
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder, i.e. ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder.

  • Unable to find your reply

In Apple Mail Inbox window after replying to an e-mail then clicking on the reply arrow icon to see the reply, I get the error dialog box "Mail was unable to find your reply to the message "SUBJECT". You my have deleted the message.
Also, when I check the "sent" box for the reply, it is missing.
But I haven't deleted the message.
And I have run "rebuild" but it didn't help.
    Any suggestions please?

The "store sent messages on the server" options is only for IMAP and since this is a POP account, it doesn't have this option.
BUT...I played around a little and deselected "store sent messages on the server" on one of my IMAP accounts. For the heck of it I checked the POP account and to my surprise, the sent mail replies are now visible.
Then I went back in and reselected "store sent messages on the server" for the IMAP account and the POP account sent mail replies remain visible.
So, doesn't make sense to me..but it now works fine.
    Thank you for your help?
    ;-)Jon

  • Linking replies to messages when "Mail is unable to find your response"

    Hi all,
I have discovered that for some of my email Mail.app can't seem to find the reply sent when I click on the grey reply arrow that sits to the left of the email. I see the following Error Message: "Mail was unable to find your response to the message "###". You may have deleted the message." I have noticed that this usually occurs when I have replied to email via the .Mac website, instead of from my computer using Mail.app. For instance, when I travel.
The problem may be because I use my full name as the Full Name (sender identity) when replying via the .Mac website, but use my initials and surname as the Full Name (sender identity) when replying using Mail.app on my iMac. However, I am not convinced that this should make a difference as the actual email address is the same for both.
What I would like to know is, can I link the sent email to the original email? I can see them both and I'd love to be able to tell Mail, "Hey this was my reply!"
Any help or advice gratefully received.
    TIA.

    BUMP
Anybody know how to get the reply arrow icons to actually find the replies I have sent?
Or is this a case of whenever you reply to an email via the .Mac website, Mail.app will know you replied to it, but can't link the grey arrow to the message in the Sent Mail mailbox on the server?

  • Any Update on Mail's "unable to find your response"?

This has been discussed here in past years, I can see, but I'm still wondering if there's been a fix....
My Mail program (2.1.3) is still doing it about 50% of the time. An email I responded to just last night, still in my InBox (or it could be in the Trash as well) -- this morning I can't find using the round gray arrow, getting the same error message saying "Mail was unable to find your response to..."
Any fix for that? Isn't it about time for Apple to fix this? Or is Tiger a Dinosaur Apple wants to dump and forget about?.....

In your Inbox messages, whenever you reply to a certain message, there is a curved gray arrow created to the left of the message. When you click on that arrow, the reply message is suppose to open in a different window.
Ah, I see, thanks, is this a Pop or IMAP account?
I wish I could embed a screen shot....

  • "Airport Utility was unable to find your airport wireless device"

I recently bought an Airport Extreme to replace a D-Link DGL4300. My network is as follows: DSL > Modem > Airport Extreme > Ethernet and Wireless clients (wireless clients include my iMac and my wife's MacBook). This worked fine for about 2 weeks, until my wife's MacBook started having connectivity issues. I did a soft reset on the Airport Extreme, and . . . poof. No internet for anyone. I did a hard reset and used the saved profile that had previously worked (for at least my computer), and after the Airport Extreme restarted, I received the dreaded "Airport Utility was unable to find your airport wireless device". I have repeated this cycle several times with complete power-downs of the modem, the Airport Extreme and all clients, with no change in result.
What's odd is that even though Airport Utility can't find the Airport Extreme, my home network works fine (i.e., all clients can talk to an internal media server and each other), but there is no internet at all. Any ideas?

Until you can complete the configuration process, try connecting your Mac to the AirPort Extreme with an Ethernet cable to see if that allows AirPort Utility to see the Extreme.

  • Mail was unable to find reply to message

    Hi Guys
Im using OS X Yosemite (10.10.1) and use Mail with Exchange for emails.  Just recently when I click on the grey return arrow to view the reply ton an email I have sent, it get the following error message:
'Mail was unable to find reply to your message. You may have deleted the message.'
The message has not been deleted as I can see it by going to my Sent folder.  It has also worked in the past.
Our whole office (10 people) are all set up EXACTLY the same with Mail/Exchange and are all using Yosemite.  Some of us have the same issue as me, and others work perfectly.
Does anyone else have this issue or a solution?
    Cheers
    Sara

    Hi,
I have the same problem but try this. On my mac is works but only with old messages not new replied.
go to Library->Mail->V2->MailData and look for files started with word "envelope". Put this file to trash logout and log in and start mail Wait for reindex...on my mac it works with all replied arrows but problem is when I reply to new message and then click on arrow I have the same error about potentially deleted message.

  • "Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport after restarting"

Airport Express B has been working great for two years, and suddenly it can't be found in Airport Utility.
When I hard reset it, and re-set it up again, I go through the whole procedure, using the Utility to write the new settings : "The settings for this Airport Express have been successfully updated...waiting for Airport Express to restart" and at that point nothing happens - the light stays continuously green, no restart, and shortly afterwards I get the failure message "Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport wireless device after restarting".
I come out of Airport Utility, reopen it, and it can't find the Airport Express. Nothing. A £65 brick that has ceased to be, and this forum is full of people with similar problems. I've tried all of the fixes, including hard-wiring it using Ethernet, and again it goes through the whole procedure abut when trying to restart the AE, fails to find it.
Are Apple making any response to these issues ?

Thanks Martin - I can download it from the Apple website, according to this discussion :
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1085243&tstart=30
My concern is that a) it may not work with an Intel MBP, and that it may break my Airport - totally. Could you let me know what you're running it on ?

  • Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport device after restarting.

    - I just updated the firmware on my base station (it a white dome?? i think snow?) to 5.7
    - I am running AirPort Utility 5.5.2 (also recently updated)
    - I have (3) AirPort Expresses (just updated firmware yesterday) and now are not being seen in the airport utility. They had been running for about two years just fine.
I have done a hard reset and was then able to see the Airport Express and go through set up. Upon finalizing the set up I get this message:
"Airport Utility was unable to find your Airport device after restarting."
This is happening with all 3 AirPort Expresses

    Hello !
I had the same kind of problems when I upgraded to the latest version of Airport (5,7).
The Airport express seemed to have been disconnected, and nothing I could do to reconfigure it, after hard resetting it, seemed to be working.
I did two or three hard resets before remembering having been in a situation like that a while ago.
I went back to the Mini, **deactivated the firewall (in the "preferences" panel), then deactivated also the firewall of the Modem/router provided for my internet connection. Then I went in the other room and did another hard reset of the Airport express, came back in the mini's room, opened the Airport utility, the icon of the Airport express was already visible (which wasn't the case before... ), did the re-configuring.
The reconfigured Airport express reappeared very quickly, then I reactivated the firewalls of the Mini and the router. Voilà !
It took less than two minutes !
And since then the Mini have been streaming music without a glitch to the Airport express.
I hope this will help you and others !

  • "Airport was unable to find your base station after restarting"

Trying to connect AX to my HP printer for wireless printing. Walk through the process of joining my wireless network, everything appears to work (finds my base station, finds my wireless network). When I finish the final step, macbook appears to hang but then comes back with this error message "Airport was unable to find your base station after restarting"..."problem rejoining the wireless network or finding the base station". I then go into Airport Utility again and base station is gone. I have to reset AX to factory setting (removing any profiles) before Utility recognizes AX again. I repeat process...same results, ugh. Any help would be appreciated.

I updated to 7.3.1, and just wasted 3 hours getting my Airport Express working again. What a nightmare.
Flashing amber light after update to 7.3.1 and not found by Airport Utility. Hard reset allows Airport Utility to find it, but after configuration never found again and get flashing amber light, until hard reset again...
Here are the steps that worked for me to get back to 7.3. and functional Airport Express.
    1) I had ethernet connected, I was unclear whether ethernet doing anything but desperate. Performing reset from MacBook with airport on.
    2) Hard reset on Airport Express so that Airport Utility can find it. (i.e. press reset button for 5-10 seconds until light flashes amber 4 times. The factory reset did not seem to work.)
    3) Cross fingers that Airport Express shows up in Airport Utility. (Did most times for me, but not always.)
    4) Hold down Option key and select Check for Updates from Airport Utility application menu. This allows selecting old updates.
    5) Download 7.3.
    6) Click Manual Setup (for the Airport Express)
    7) Select Upload Firmware from the Base Station menu
    8) Select 7.3, apply, cross fingers
After applying 7.3 may need to do one more hard reset, I am not sure if it showed up again on its own. However, once available in Airport Utility and once again with the 7.3 firmware, was able to configure and get working again as normal.
