I cannot hear person I am FaceTime with. How do I fix??

when using the regular phone to make calls, can your contacts hear you?
do you have anything covering the top mic?  i believe that is what is used when using speakerphone and/or facetime, but i am not sure...

    Thanks for answering me. I tried what the help page said but still no luck. My son jut told me that his phone (same as mine) did the same thing and then resolved a little while later. I guess I might just have to wait and see.

    I avidly use facetime DAILY and for about 3-4 days now, whenever I try and send or receive facetime request it hangs up immediately without ever picking up. This is happening on all my devices and with everyone and doesn't matter what network/ wifi I'm connected to. This is definitely a network issue with individual profiles...

    Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store > Apple ID > View Apple ID > enter your password > set Country/Region to US if your account was created in the US.

    I am having the same problems as this person. I see that someone said there is no way to retrieve the pictures once it gets stuck in recovery mode.
    Then further along someone said that there are data retrieval methods except they have something to do with jail breaking a phone.
    My phone is already jail broken. It was kind of a gift from the company I work for- it was a fellow employees before. He jail broke it and then it was given to me. After I got it I activated the 4 and tried to back up everything. It didn't work and "Springboard" forced the phone into safety mode. So I could use it with the old dude's apps and my contacts. I made the mistake of using the phone for wedding dress shopping with a friend. I took tons of pictures.
    After this I found out the messages I was seeing meant it was jail broken. At&t said to force restore the phone - iTunes wouldn't recognize it in safety mode. I'm an idiot and didn't realize what this meant for my pictures. It didn't work (error 1611) - thankfully. Now it is stuck in recovery mode (iTunes icon and USB cable picture).
    Can I access that media in any way? It never suceeded restoring itself so is it still there? The phone is jail broken already so is there a method I can use?

    I moved some iTunes TV shows from my PC hard drive to an external drive. I can watch them as long as the external drive is plugged in, but I now want to move them back to my PC to watch from the internal drive, but cannot figure out how to do it. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

    Is it just the TV Shows that you moved to the external, or did you consolidate all your media there?
    What is the current location of the media folder given under Edit > Preferences > Advanced?
    If the media folder is currently pointed to a folder on the internal drive you could select the files you want to copy, then right-click and select Consolidate Files from the pop-up menu. This will leave the originals behind. If you want to move specific files to a new media folder then my script ConsolidateByMoving can do this.

  • FaceTime - I cannot hear the other end at times and the mic now has a forward slash in front of it and I can't get it to go away

    FaceTime-at times I cannot hear - no audio - the person on the other end.  The mic now has a forward slash over it and I cannot get the slash to disappear.  At times I hear the other end even though the forward slash is still there.  I believe I have checked all of the settings.

    If they don't show up on screen captures, it's most likely a hardware failure. Make an appointment at the genius bar.

    First support post. This one's really stumping me. Haven't called Apple Support for an answer yet. I hope someone here can help.
    So, here's the situation.
    I use my iPhone 4 (latest software updates, not jailbroken, etc.) to FaceTime with my parents who are at home on their 21" iMac (the latest generation before the new new ones that just came out). It's running 10.6.7. It has the latest version of FaceTime (the one that costs 99 cents). When I call, we connect and I can see my parents just fine. They can hear me perfectly whether I'm using earbuds or not. But I can't hear them. When I use iChat to video chat, it's perfectly fine. Everything works. It doesn't matter if I send them the FaceTime call or they send it to me. I can't hear them.
    I  tested the problem on my wife's Mac Mini. When I FaceTime with her, she can hear/see me, I can hear/see her. I tested it with my buddy on his Mac Pro. He can hear/see me, I can hear/see him.
    I've run software update on my parent's iMac (using screen sharing). I've checked the sound settings in system preferences. I've scoured forums for this exact problem and I've had no luck.
    Anybody have any ideas why I can't hear them on my iPhone 4 using FaceTime ... but I can hear everybody else I FaceTime with?
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    No solution, just posting that I have the same issue.
    Sisters iMac in Wisconsin, my iPhone4 in Los Angeles..
    Whats strange about it is, when she calls from her iMac, I get her sound for about a minute, and then it goes dead (though she can always hear me.) If she calls back, still no sound. It resolves itself a day later, but then again sound will cut out after about a minute.
    However, if she facetimes me from her iPod touch, it works fine. Sound has never cut out when she uses that.
    Like I said, no ideas, just sharing my situation. Hopefully Apple has noticed this bug and is working to fix it.

Randomly, during calls (signal strength is not an issue in this case) my caller cannot hear me at all. I still can hear any single word but they think that call is finished (dropped). I did the restore but problem remained. Is there anybody with the same problem?

    It is possible that the creen is activating during the call and your ear is touching the mute button. There appears to be a problem with the iP4's proximity sensor not always actuating when the screen is close to the ear - this can result is so-called 'face dialling'.     If you push the top volume button on the side and it doesn't make any difference, go into Setings => Sounds and see if the Change with Buttons option has been turned off. My grandson got into these settings on my wife's phone and it drove us nuts for weeks trying to figure it out.  He even got all the way into the accessibility settings and pushed the stereo setting all the way to the left so when the phone was connected to the car radio only the right speakers worked.
    Siri's volume is controled by the general volume controls on the phone itself.  Is the volume for your phone, ring tones, music player low as well?  If so you may have the volume turned down for the entire phone.

    the mute button is a switch you need to flip, not touch. if you look at it and see color, its on.
