You can restore to a backup made on a device running a higher iOS version; it must be the same or lower. Update your iPhone 5 in iTunes, set it up as a new iPhone, then go to Settings>General>Reset>Erase All Content and Settings to erase the phone. Go through the setup screens again and when given the option, choose Restore from iCloud Backup. After updating you'll be able to restore to your backup.

Its called Activation Lock. Take the phone to Sprint and explain your problem. It is their fault and responsibility to properly reset used phones.

You can't get it reset; if you could there would be no point in having it. If you have an encrypted backup there are two ways this could have happened:
You checked "Encrypt Backup" in iTunes at some time in the past, either intentionally or by accident
You have a corporate MS Exchange account and your Exchange administrator installed a security profile on your phone that requires the phone'a contents to be encrypted. This, in turn, requires the backup to be encrypted for obvious reasons.
In either case you were prompted for a password the first time you backed up after whichever of these happened. So think about what you might have entered for a password at that time. Fortunately you get an unlimited number of tries. Other threads on this subject have shown that it is always a password known to the user, so it wasn't something made up by iTunes. It's likely that a developer of one or more of these will post a response with a link (possibly hidden) to their "product". Hello everyone, I am trying to restore my iPhone 4s and every time I try restoring it, it always goes to about 75% of the process then it says the iphone could not restore because of error 1. This is not error -1 it is error 1. I reserached this error and it said to make sure I have the latest version of iTunes, i do, To make sure i have a security software updated, i do, and ive done everything it tells me to do yet it wont let me restore my iphone. Before I tried restoring it, it was working perfectly fine besides the battery which i have just replaced yesterday. Ive tried restoring it in two different computers with two different cables but still no luck. I found this phone at a park and it was working perfectly fine until i tried restoring it. I have no idea what to do now. I appreciate your guyses help!
This error generally indicates a hardware failure. Bring the phone to Apple for evaluation.
