TSPITR to another DB...possible?

Scenario:
We have a backup through RMAN and we need to perform a TSPITR but are told not to recover it to the target instance just yet. Can we recover it to another instance? Like a Test/DEV/STAGING area?
All the documentation from 11g says you can do it for the database, but does not mention that you can also do it for a subset like tablespaces. Is this possible? Any help or advice?
Version is 11.1.0.7 on Win2003, SP4 64Bit server, 2 Node RAC using RMAN Catalog.

OK, So I finally got things working as they should be. Only thing I did was I deleted the old backups, took a fresh new one and things started to work accordingly. Not sure why it would not work with the previous backup, but oh well. But I have a question about the script I used and how to use the storage parameters to point them to ASM so that all files can be created/recovered/deleted from the ASM disk cause currently, it creates some on the ASM and some on the local disk. Only thing on the local disk should be temp files which get deleted after...I wouldl like to store everything on the ASM disk in a directory that I suggest.
Here is my code
run{
set AUXILIARY INSTANCE PARAMETER FILE TO 'C:\EDBTEST2_backup\oradata\auxdest\initoraaux.ora';
set newname for datafile 1 to "+DATA";
set newname for datafile 2 to "+DATA";
set newname for datafile 3 to "+DATA";
set newname for datafile 4 to "+DATA";
TRANSPORT TABLESPACE RAMANS_RMAN_TEST
TABLESPACE DESTINATION 'C:\EDBTEST2_backup\oradata\auxdest\TTS'
DATAPUMP DIRECTORY DATA_PUMP_DIR
DUMP FILE 'expdp_RAMANS_RMAN_TEST.dmp'
IMPORT SCRIPT 'impdp_RAMANS_RMAN_TEST.sql'
EXPORT LOG 'RAMANS_RMAN_TEST.log'
until time "to_date('30-MAR-2010 16:25:00','DD-MON-YYYY HH24:MI:SS')"
AUXILIARY DESTINATION 'C:\EDBTEST2_backup\oradata\auxdest';
}How do I get:
TABLESPACE DESTINATION 'C:\EDBTEST2_backup\oradata\auxdest\TTS'
to actually point to a location on the ASM disk.
I read on a ASKTOM article to include the DATAPUMP DIRECTORY DATA_PUMP_DIR which points to the ASM. For my test I pointed the directory DATA_PUMP_DIR locally to see where it would store the files. After the recovery completed, look at the output of where the files were recovered to and kept, which is not correct according to the ASKTOM article...and Tom is never wrong, LOL
This is the datafile that got recovered
(This file is small but in a real world scenario, my files may be many gig's and my local disk will not be able to store them, hence why I want them to be pointed to the ASM. But it seems like its being called from the OS side, which means the OS does not see the ASM...true/false?)

  • I inadvertently pressed CTRL+ another key (possibly V or B or N) and the text size of my bookmarked page was significantly reduced in size. I can't read it. How do I re-set the text size?

    I mistakenly pressed CTRL + another key (possibly V or B or N or whatever), when I was reading my e-mail. The text size shrank to a size that is useless to me, but I cannot seem to get the text size re-set to normal. Indeed all of the formatting on the page has been reduced (symbols, instructions, frames etc). Existing Firefox and returning to the bookmarked page makes no difference. How do I re-set the system?

    Please try '''Ctrl''' + '''0''' (zero). Alternatively '''View''' ('''Alt''' + '''V''') > '''Zoom''' > '''Reset'''.

  • Music on one computer, applications on another. Possible?

    I just got a new iPod Touch
    Here's my problem.
    My main computer is a MacBook, which has all my contacts, calenders, etc. It has a 160GB hard drive. I also have an iMac with a 250GB hard drive. I would like to have all my music on my iMac, but everything else on my MacBook. Can I use my iPod in this way? With my music library coming from one computer, and everything else coming from another?
    Thanks!

    i think you will need to manage your iPod manually to do that, but i think it's possible.

  • When application opens, automatically open another? Possible?

    Hi!
    Automator is great!
    But is it possible to launch another different application when another is started - and this automatically? I mean I already have the script, it works but I always have to click RUN script. Is it somehow possible to open the other application autoatically when the other starts without pressing RUN script (that means without opening Automator).
    For example:
    When my EyeTV software runs or starts up, my BOINC Manager starts parallel.
    This would be very usefull, because EyeTV automatically starts my machine but it is only on for EyeTv. When it would automatically start up BOINC it would even work for a good thing while recording a TV program.
    Is this somehow possible?
    Thanks!!

  • Photo Booth iSight "in use by another application" - possible fix!!!

    Hi everyone.
    I'm running Mac OSX 10.4.10 and a few days ago I developed the problem of the inbuilt iSight camera in my new 20" iMac failing to work with Photo Booth, iChat etc. I kept getting the dreaded message "in use by another application".
    After trying various fixes and tips from elsewhere I finally came upon a website which had a hint saying you could disable the iSight camera by moving the "QuickTimeUSBVDCDIgitizer.component" file from the System/Library/Quicktime folder.
    Even though this wasn't related to my problem I checked to see if I had the file and realised it wasn't there! So I downloaded it from another source, popped it in the folder mentioned above, and hey-presto! My iSight is now working again. I have no idea why the file was missing originally.
    If anyone else has had this problem please check this out, it may just work for you too!

    You can get it here. http://techslaves.org/index.php?page=17 It is in the first part of the page there are two links.

  • Calling a function in another .swf, possible?

    I have two movies... main.swf and content.swf, and I'm trying to call a function in my main.swf from my content.swf. Here is the code..
    //function in main.swf
    function appear (event:MouseEvent):void{
         TweenLite.to(title1, 1, {autoAlpha:1, overwrite:false});
    //try to call from loaded content.swf
    close_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btnClick);
    function btnClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
         MovieClip(parent.parent).appear();
    I got an error message as soon as i click on close_btn. It says appear() is not a property or method.
    Would someone help me out on this please?
    Thank you very much.

    I think it is not a good OOP design. It is much better to design applications in a such way that they do not depend on placements (especially parents). Particularly, if your application acts as a component that can be consumed in some unpredictable fashion. Theoretically, if you write something that will become a stand alone swf - it should perform with no errors both as stand-alone and when loaded.
    You are already dealing with the results of this design flow. The most cumbersome and inflexible aspect of your approach is to capture parents chain.
    In your case I would totally dissociate you loaded swf from the placement and couple it with the parent via events.
    The best way would be for your loaded swf to dispatch and event that is consequently captured by it parent(s) no matter, again, where it is placed. For instance it can be done the following way:
    // in your top movie
    // say the loaded swf is set to a variable:
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    import flash.events.Event;
    var loadedSWF:MovieClip;
    // your loading routine
    // once it is loaded
    // note that capture is set to true so that
    // no matter depth of event origination
    // it will be captured by this scope
    loadedSWF.addEventListener("close", onCloseClick, true);
    function onCloseClick(e:Event):void {
         // do whatever
    // IN YOUR LOADED SWF
    close_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btnClick);
    function btnClick(event:MouseEvent):void {
        // dispatch event
         dispatchEvent(new Event("close"));

  • Colour Labels being reset when changing from one to another. Possibly a bug?

    For some time I have suspected that I was "loosing " images that I had filtered based on their colour label. I have narrowed it down to changing the colour label of an image in just one particular way.
    I think that the errors occured in  in Lightroom 3 but they it always occurs in version 4
    Using Develop mode
    I label several images to one colour eg  blue
    In the filmstrip using the colour label filter select for example blue and purple which will still show all the images labelled as above
    Using the colour buttons on the toolbar under the image, change the colour label of  an image to purple, Since the filter is set to blue and purple the image should still be present in the filmstrip but it is missing
    Searching for the image via other means eg filename I find that the colour label has been reset to none instead of changing to purple
    This only happens if the colour change is done using the toolbar buttons, using any of the text menus that access the colour labels the problem doesn't occur.
    The error is not limited to blue and purple labels
    Am I missing something? Can anyone replicate this ?
    regards
    Wes

    I can replicate this when using toolbars.
    This doesn't seem to happen when I use the keyboard.
    I can remember more older bug reports related to using the toolbar in conjuction filters. Somehow the codepath and behaviour is different the when using keyboard shortcuts. Go figure...

  • Transfer value from one VI to another over a network?

    Hi,
    What is the best/easiest way to send a numeric value from one VI to another over a LAN.  I only need one number to be sent every time the first vi is run which won't be that many, I then need to run the other VI and access that data.  I could save the value to file and then open that file from the other VI, this I thought is a bit messy and wondered if LabVIEW accommodates this through property nodes etc rather than writing to file?  Also by saving to file etc the reading VI needs to execute after the first one has written obviously, this could cause timing issues and to have something like a property node would be far better.
    Many Thanks

    Use DataSockets. The simplest, although not necessarily the fastest.
    Check out the examples.
    Basically, you "connect" a control on one VI (on one machine) to another control (possibly on different VI, possibly on different machine.

    why cant i log into an account to sign on but i can log into another? possible virus?

    Some times a disk permisions run will fix this. If the account that you can log onto is an admin you can go to Utilities -> disk utility. Select your disk on the left. Normally named Macintosh HD. click on the first aid tab and then run disk permisions repair.

  • Can we call sceen of one program into another?

    Hi ABAPers,
      I wish to know whether, is it possible to call the screen of one program through another program? I know, calling a subroutine of a program from another is possible but i want to know whether calling screen of one program from another is possible or not?
      Also if its possible then how?
    Regards,
    Sonu.

    Hi,
    We can call the subscreens ...
    CALL SUBSCREEN <area> INCLUDING [<prog>] <dynnr>.
    The screen of a subscreen that you call is placed in the subscreen area <area> on the main screen.
    If you do not specify a program <prog>, the system uses a screen from the current ABAP program. If you do specify a program <prog>, the system uses a screen from the program <prog> for the subscreen. This program is treated in the same way as an external subroutine call. In other words, it is loaded into the program group of the calling program, or, if it is a function group, as its own program group in the same internal session as the calling ABAP program.

  • Complete workflow tasks before starting another workflow.

    Hello everyone
    I have a requirement in my project and i am not sure how to do that task in best possible way.
    I have a reviewer workflow where i will be creating approval tasks for 'n' number of reviewers (the reviewers we get it from initiation form).
    For example
    I have 4 reviewers and there will be 4 approval tasks (1 for each) that will be created and if I have a reply percentage (the people who reviewed
    the tasks assigned to them) set to say 50%.
    Then if at least 2 reviewers are sending reply for the tasks assigned to them then
    we can start another workflow manually and when that new workflow is starting we should complete all the tasks that are in progress for the review workflow
    If there are only 1 reviewer or no one is sending reply then we should not allow
    the new workflow to start and if anyone try to execute the workflow manually we should say “Minimum number of reviewers had not replied to the tasks assigned to them so we cannot start the workflow now. Retry later”.
    How to achieve this requirement? I already developed the 2 workflows that I discussed here and it is working correctly. I simply need to create this dependency condition
    between the 2 workflows as I discussed here. Please suggest me the proper way for achieving my requirement.
    Thanks
    K.Anantha rengan

    Hi K, the only way I can see this working is if you make the second workflow automatic, and have it start when the number of approvals reaches a certain number. This number would have to be in another column (possibly a calculated column).

  • How do I use Sun Web Server 7.0u1 reverse proxy to change public URLs?

    Some of our installations use the Sun Web Server 7.0 (update 1, usually)
    for hosting some of the public resource and reverse-proxying other parts
    of the URI namespace from other backend servers (content, application
    and other types of servers).
    So far every type of backend server served a unique part of the namespace
    and there was no collision of names, and the backend resources were
    published in a one-to-one manner. That is, a backend resource like, say,
    http://appserver:8080/content/page.html would be published in the internet
    as http://www.publicsite.com/content/page.html
    I was recently asked to research whether we can rename some parts of
    the public URI namespace, to publish some or all resources as, say,
    http://www.publicsite.com/data/page.html while using the same backend
    resources.
    Another quest, possibly related in solution, was to make a tidy url for the
    first page the user opens of the site. That is, in the current solution when
    a visitor types the url "www.publicsite.com" in his or her browser, our web
    server returns an HTTP-302 redirect to the actual first page URL, so the
    browser sends a second request (and changes the URL in its location bar).
    One customer said that it is not "tidy". They don't want the URL to change
    right upon first rendering the page. They want the root page to be rendered
    instantly i the first HTTP request.
    So far I found that I can't solve these problems. I believe these problems
    share a solution because it relies on ability to control the actual URI strings
    requested by Sun Web Server from backend servers.
    Some details follow, now:
    It seems that the reverse proxy (Service fn="service-passthrough") takes
    only the $uri value which was originally requested by the browser. I didn't
    yet manage to override this value while processing a request, not even if
    I "restart" a request. Turning the error log up to "finest" I see that even
    when making the "service-passthrough" operation, the Sun Web Server
    still remembers that the request was for "/test" (in my test case below);
    it does indeed ask the backend server for an URI "/test" and that fails.
    [04/Mar/2009:21:45:34] finest (25095) www.publicsite.com: for host xx.xx.xx.83

    # this causes /content/* to be taken from another (backend) server
    NameTrans fn="assign-name" from="/content" name="content-test" nostat="/content"
    # this causes requests to site root to be HTTP-redirected to a certain page URI
    <If $uri =~ '^/$'>

    </If>

    ### This maps http://public/content/* to http://10.16.2.127:8080/content/*

    </Object>
    I have also tried "restart"ing the request like this:
        NameTrans fn="restart" uri="/data"or desperately trying to set the new request uri like this:
        Service fn="set-variable"  uri="/magnoliaPublic/Main.html"Thanks for any ideas (including a statement whether this can be done at all
    in some version of Sun Web Server 7.0 or its opensourced siblings) ;)

    Some of our installations use the Sun Web Server 7.0 (update 1, usually)please plan on installing the latest service pack - 7.0 Update 4. these updates addresses potentially critical bug fixes.
    I was recently asked to research whether we can rename some parts of
    the public URI namespace, to publish some or all resources as, say,
    http://www.publicsite.com/data/page.html while using the same backend
    resources.> now, if all the resources are under say /data, then how will you know which pages need to be sent to which back end resources. i guess, you probably meant to check for /data/page.html should go to <back-end>/content/page.html
    yes, you could do something like
    - edit your corresponding obj.conf (<hostname>-obj.conf or obj.conf depending on your configuration)
    <Object name=¨default¨>
    <If $uri = ¨/page/¨>
    #move this nametrans SAF (for map directive - which is for reverse proxy within <if> clause)
    NameTrans.. fn=map
    </If
    </Object>
    and you could do https-<hostname>/bin/reconfig (dynamic reconfiguration) to check out if this is what you wanted. also, you might want to move config/server.xml <log-level> to finest and do your configuration . this way, you would get enough information on what is going on within your server logs.
    finally,when you are satisfied, you might have to run the following command to make your manual change into admin config repository.
    <install-root>/bin/wadm pull-config user=admin config=<hostname> <hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm deploy-config --user=admin <hostname>
    you might want to check out this for more info on how you could use <if> else condition to handle your requirement.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gdaer?a=view
    finally, you might want to refer to this doc - which explains on ws7 request processing overview. this should provide you with some pointers as to what these different directives mean
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gbysz?a=view

    One customer said that it is not "tidy". They don't want the URL to change

    please check out the rewrite / restart SAF. this should help you.
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6599/gdada?a=view
    pl. understand that - like with more web servers - ordering of directives is very important within obj.conf. so, you might want to make sure that you verify the obj.conf directive ordering is what you want it to do..
    It seems that the reverse proxy (Service fn="service-passthrough") takes
    only the $uri value which was originally requested by the browser. I didn't
    yet manage to override this value while processing a request, not even if

    it does indeed ask the backend server for an URI "/test" and that fails.
    now, you are in the totally wrong direction. web server 7 includes a highly integrated reverse proxy solution compared to 6.1. unlike 6.1, you don´t have to download a separate plugin . however, you will need to manually migrate your 6.1 based reverse proxy settings into 7.0. please check out this blog link on how to set up a reverse proxy
    http://blogs.sun.com/amit/entry/setting_up_a_reverse_proxy
    feel free to post to us if you need any futher help
    you are probably better off - starting fresh
    - install ws7u4
    - use gui or CLI to create a reverse proxy and map one on one - say content
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/820-6601/create-reverse-proxy-1?a=view
    if you don´t plan on using ws7 integrated web container (ability to process jsp/servlet), then you could disable java support as well. this should reduce your server memory footprint
    <install-root>/bin/wadm disable-java user=admin config=<hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm create-reverse-proxy user=admin uri-prefix=/content server=<http://your back end server/ config=<hostname> --vs=<hostname>
    <install-root>/bin/wadm deploy-config --user=admin <hostname>
    now, you can check out the regular express processing and <if> syntax from our docs and try it out within <https-<hostname>/config/<hostname>-obj.conf> file and restart the server. pl. note that once you disable java, ws7 admin server creates <vs>-obj.conf and you need to edit this file and not default obj.conf for your changes to be read by server.
    >
    I have also tried "restart"ing the request like this:
    NameTrans fn="restart" uri="/data"
    ordering is very important here... you need to do this some thing like
    <Object name=default>
    <If not $restarted>
    NameTrans fn=restart uri from=/¨ uri=/foo.
    </If>

  • Cannot Get X11 Running

    So, I've spent the last few days setting up Arch on my iMac.  I've been using Linux for a few years, but this is the first time I've tried to setup a distro myself.  Anyway, I got things partitioned and dual booting okay, but I'm now stuck trying to get X to work.  I'm not sure if this is a problem with my graphics card, with the drivers, with X11, with my sound, or with my general configuration, but what I *do* know is that I'm a newbie.. so I hope this is the right place to be.
    I've been able to get unstuck thus far because I've had a concrete google-able error to look up... but none of these warnings are particularly illuminating.  I know I'm committing the cardinal sin of not including bunches of relevant files, but I guess that's a Catch-22, since I don't know how to copy-pasta things from that computer as I don't have a WM, so bear with me and I'll try to provide the information ya'll need.
    $ lspci | grep VGA
    01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc M98L [Mobility Radeon HD4850]
    I'm using Catalyst -- I tried the open source drivers but I seem to have more luck with Catalyst (I can switch back, not particularly set on either, and I was careful to reboot between uninstalling and installing and remove the old config files).  I'm using the 3.2.5-1 kernel and Catalyst 12. The xorg.conf file indicates to use "fglrx" for the graphics card on "PCI:1:0:0" (all the settings from an aticonfig --init).  I have fglrx in the the rc.conf modules as well, and I'm running the kernel with nomodeset (if I don't, it wont even boot.. not even a little bit).
    So, the problem... I try starting X with startx, and it goes grey, then black, and the shuts down "successfully" without doing anything.  Just running X will hang on a grey screen and I'll have to reboot.  At least startx spits out stuff to the command line:
    $ startx
    (WW) fglrx: No matching Device section for instance (BusID PCI:0@1:0:1) found
    [- XMM_GLX] [I ]glesxXvInit Configureable RGBOutputColorRange
    xinit: connection to X server lost
    waiting for X server to shut down Server terminated successfully (0). Closing log file.
    The device at that port is the HDMI Radeon sound -- so I don't know why that's relevant.  I've tried to add a Device section for it but the warning persists.  I haven't changed xinit, and I have installed twm, clock, xterm, etc.  There are no errors in the log file, only warnings, including the warning above:
    $ cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log | grep WW
    (WW) Falling back to old probe method for fglrx
    (WW) fglrx(0): board is an unknown third party board, chipset is supported
    Running just X, or various other similar commands lead to the same warnings and observationally equivalent behavior.  This might be needless to say, but the commands to "see if you set this up right" also fail, like
    $ glxinfo | grep direct
    Error: unable to open display
    So... yeah.
    EDIT: Figured out how to command line email myself the files..!
    The output of startx to the terminal:

    Yeah thats... the guide I was reading.
    hadrons123 wrote:Another thread possibly due to not adding required dameons  in /etc/rc.conf.
    And those are?  I installed dbus as that's the only daemon the beginners guide mentions, and I added alsa and a few others to rc.conf for good measure but saw no change and removed them.  So right now I only have:
    $ grep DAEMONS /etc/rc.conf
    # DAEMONS
    DAEMONS=(syslog-ng network crond dbus)

  • Cinema Display 20" kills some system preferences

    My MacBookPro (Core Duo 2GHz) running OS X 10.4.8 is set to require password entry to exit screen saver or wake from sleep or display sleep. These preferences work fine until I connect to the Cinema Display and run in "clamshell" mode. Then the password requirement is bypassed. This is a recent development (sometime in the last two or three weeks, before which it all worked fine). Another symptom, possibly related, is that System Preferences runs very slowly, with considerable delay, requiring a lot of CPU activity. Any way to explore what might be going on or how to fix? (Permissions o.k., I checked and fixed.)

    You may want to install WinACD <http://sourceforge.net/projects/winacd/>.
    See if it lets you reduce the brightness. If not, use the brightness buttons on the display.
