Tuning the plsql procedure

Hi ,
I have one process which inserts and truncates tables on daily basic .
That process is taking alot of time.
Can anyone tell me how to tune the process and how to minimise the execution time.
Please its urgent.

Blindly (without much info).
The table which you truncate and insert records into it, check if any index on it.
if yes, then drop them first then truncate and insert records and create index again.
second.
if you are doing synchronization between two tables then you can use merge command.
MERGE INTO SACHIN1 a
USING (SELECT ID, NAME, DETAIL
FROM SACHIN2) i
ON (a.ID = I.ID)
WHEN MATCHED THEN
UPDATE
SET NAME = I.NAME, DETAIL = I.DETAIL
WHEN NOT MATCHED THEN
INSERT (ID, NAME, DETAIL)
VALUES (i.ID, i.NAME, i.DETAIL);

  • Client to run the plsql procedure web page

    Hi,
    From the pc client of windows 98 I want to browse the web page which created by the plsql procedure on the windowsNT OF ORACLE SERVER DATABE 8.0.5 WITH ORACLE APPLICATION SERVER.
    I used the internet explorer from the client but I failed
    But when I browse thru the server it is running.
    How to use the client to run the plsql procedure to display its web page thru the TCP/IP (LAN NETWORK)???

    Hi
    Browsers do not allow you to communicate with the computer except in a very limited way, and accessing files to run them is a definite no, which if you think about it is a sensible approach otherwise there is nothing to stop anyone opening any file/app on a persons computer, (it can be done by getting your user to download and approve the installation of a small 'interface' program, which is what hackers also do to gain control of a computer).
    An alternative may be to create an air of flex app to do this that requires connection to your server in order to play.

  • Business Event not triggering the PLSQL procedure.. What to do?

    We need to call a plsql procedure when the GL Approval workflow has ended with approval. I thought i could do this by customizing the relevant business event.
    We are on EBS 12.1.3 with RDBMS : 11.2.0.3.0.
    I saw that the business event oracle.apps.gl.Journals.journal.approve was disabled currently. I enabled it and created a subscription for it. Subscription was a PLSQL procedure. Currently, for test purpose only thing it is doing is to insert a row into a table.
    Business Event Subscription settings:
    System: ORDEBS.SYSTEM.COM
    Triggering Event
    Source Type:Local
    Event Filter: oracle.apps.gl.Journals.journal.approve
    Execution Condition
    Phase: 100
    Status: Enabled
    Rule Data: Message
    Action Type:Custom
    On Error: Stop and Rollback
    Action
    PL/SQL Rule Function: XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG.Get_Attributes
    Priority: Normal
    Documentation (Not sure what value to be given for these. I went with the below values.)
    Owner: Company Name
    Owner Tag: Custom Schema
    Using the below query i can see that the business event is getting called when the approval happens (One row added each time approval happened). But I cant see any rows in the table where it should insert a row. What could be going wrong? How can i verify that the procedure has been called?
    select * from WF_DEFERRED where corrid ='APPS:oracle.apps.gl.Journals.journal.approve'
    Procedure:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY APPS.XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG
    AS
    PROCEDURE Get_Attributes
    IS
    BEGIN
    INSERT INTO xx.xx_test_table VALUES ('From BE');
    COMMIT;
    END Get_Attributes;
    END XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG;

    Thanks Alejandro. Now this is working.
    Changes i made:
    1. Added the WFERROR workflow as a subscription to this event. So i could see that the function i am calling from the event did not have proper signature.
    2. Changed the function signature to have standard parameters like:
    CREATE OR REPLACE PACKAGE BODY XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG
    AS
    function subscription(p_subscription_guid in raw,
    p_event in out nocopy wf_event_t) return varchar2 is
    l_result varchar2(20);
    begin
    insert into xxvtv.xxvtv_test_table values ('From BE');
    commit;
    exception
    when others then
    wf_core.context('XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG','function subscription', p_event.getEventName(), p_event.getEventKey());
    wf_event.setErrorInfo(p_event, 'ERROR');
    return 'ERROR';
    end subscription;
    END XX_GL_APPROVE_BE_PKG;
    3. Changed the owner name and owner tag both to the custom schema name (XX)

    In BPEL 10.1.2.0 this isn't a problem. I tested it against a 10.2.0.1 and a 10.2.0.2 database and in both situations I get the error with BPEL 10.1.3.1 and no error with BPEL 10.1.2.0
    it appears to be a problem in the database adapter...
    anyone with the same problems and/or a solution?

    Not of any use to you, but we had exactly the same problem on Friday when we applied AS 10.1.2.2 Patchset on top of BPEL 10.1.2.0.2.
    The clob in our pl/sql proc wan't declared as in/out but for some reasons JDeveloper had created a clob on the Output Parameter type in the db partner link xsd. I removed this and it worked. This code had been untouched , and working fine, for months.
    I'll be raising an SR today.

    a) nothing at all like T-SQL
    b) two different languages, PL (Programming Logic) and SQL
    SQL is used to access data in the Oracle database. So select * from test_sh is the correct statement to access the data.
    The client can make execute this SQL statement itself. And view the data. However, this requires the client to understand the SQL language, and the database model. Which is typically not that you want. You want to abstract that from the client.
    Why would you want the client to deal with the complexities of the SQL language? Or deal with the complexities of your database model in Oracle?
    So instead of the client doing SQL, PL/SQL can do it on behalf of the client. The client uses PL/SQL as an API - in a similar fashion as the client would use any other API.
    The PL/SQL code determines the SQL statement - and returns a SQL cursor handle to the client. The client then simply uses the SQL cursor that the PL/SQL code created for it (and the client needs to close the SQL cursor when done, so as to not cause server resource leakage).
    E.g. (using PL/SQL as an API to abstract SQL and the data model)
    create or replace procedure TestProc( c out sys_refcursor ) is
    begin
      open c for select * from test_sh order by 1;
    end;The client then calls TestProc and gets a reference cursor handle. E.g. (the client call to Oracle):
    begin
      TestProc( c => :1 );
    end;The client needs to supply a host (client language) bind variable of type cursor, as value for bind variable +:1+.
    This is the correct way to deal with PL/SQL and cursors from a client GUI/language perspective. Any other method, like using PL/SQL to cache SQL data as a collection, is usually very wrong.

  • Creating a PLSQL Procedure as Concurrent Program

    Folks:
    I am new both to PLSQL and Concurrent program creation. I am actually working on a process for deploying changes from one environment to another, so I want to create a simpel PLSQL procedure that I can then register as a concurrent program, and finally test the download/uplaod of this procedure and program from one instance to another.
    I tried reading the Developer documentation on creating concurrent program, but couldn't find the information I was looking for. Here are some of my questions:
    1) The PLSQL procedure that I want to run as concurrent program, can it be declared within a new custom package, or does it have to be created as a procedure.
    2) In the concurrent program executable registration window, can i specify directly the name of this new procedure or do I need to create an additional wrapper PLSQL procedure that has Concurrent Program related attribute (Developer guide seemed to incline that way).
    3) What should be put in the 'File' parameter on Concurrent Program Execution Window in the case of pl/sql concurrent program. There is no file, so what to put in there?
    4) Any other place I can find step by step how to for making a 'PLSQL" package a concurrent program?

    Hi,
    1) Create PL/SQL Package with "main" procedure that has arguments ERRBUF and RETCODE plus your other required arguments.
    2) xxxx_pkg.main as per 1.
    3) xxxx_pkg.main (the package and procedure name)
    4) Best place to look is at an existing program! Plenty of basic examples on the net. Here's a link that has basic package and screens:

Don't - why write data externally and then have to read that data again to use it internally?
    An attachment in an e-mail is not a separate file - the file contents is part and parcel of the e-mail message body. It is a single block of data. There is no requirement for the so-call attachment to be a physical file at all. All that is needed is correctly formatting the main body (as per MIME specs).
    So rather write data to a CLOB and when done, create the e-mail body and append the CLOB contents to the e-mail.

  • Disable cache in plsql procedure

    Hello,
    I made a portal page using a UITemplate.
    This UITemplate have more plsql procedures that make the structure of my page.
    One of this create a news ticker that change every day.
    If I set the page cache "Cache Page Definition Only", when the news change, the page not views the correct news because it views the last version saved in cache.
    Can i disable the cache only into the plsql procedure that create the news ticker?
    Thanks

    Just put all your html tag in htp.p, that will helps you to read html tags in PL/SQL Procedure.Just see the below example
    htp.p('<script>');
    htp.p('<table><tr><td>.......</td></tr></table>');
    Hope this will helps you to solve the things.>
    Just what exactly is that? Neither a proper script nor a proper HTML.
    HTP.P is to write to browser, not read .

  • The simplest way for plsql procedure to return multiple rows

    Hi,
    What is the simplest way for plsql procedure to return multiple rows (records). There are many combination of ways to do it but I am looking for a solution that is appropriate for plsql beginners. Many solutions use cursors, cursor variables, collections and more that kind of things that are complex on the face of it. Is it somehow possible to achieve the same with less effort?
    Sample query would be: SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES;
    I want to use returned rows in APEX to compose APEX SQL(in that context plsql) report.
    It is enough to use just SELECT * FROM EMPLOYEES query in APEX but I want to use plsql procedure for that.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    It depends :-).
    With +...that is appropriate for plsql beginners...+ in mind... it still depends!
    The list of techniques (ref cursors, cursor variables, collections, arrays, using explict SQL) you have referenced in your post can be made to work. but...
    +Is it somehow possible to achieve the same with less effort?+ Less effort : That needs to be defined (measured). Especially in the context of pl/sql beginners (who is a beginner?) .
    What is the level of "programming experience" ?
    What is the level of understanding of "Relational Result set" as processible in Oracle?
    If you are looking for
    Process_the_set_of rows_in APEX () kind of capabilitywhich "abstracts/hides" relation database from developers when working on relation database, it may not be the best approach (at least strategically). Because I believe it already is abstracted enough.
    I find REF CUROSOR most effective for such use, when the "begginer" has basic understanding of processing SQL result set .
    So in a nut shell, the techniques (that you already are familiar with) are the tools available. I am not aware of any alternative tools (in pure Oracle) that will simplify / hide basics from develpers.

  • How to trace the flow of plsql procedures/functions in oracle 10g

    Hi All,
    Recently I came to know that there is dbms_hprof PL/SQL built-in package in Oracle 11g which can be used to trace PL/SQL calls in a Hierarchical way. (acts as a PL/SQL Hierarchical Profiler).
    Steps are given in -
    http://www.oracle-base.com/articles/11g/PlsqlHierarchicalProfiler_11gR1.php
    I would like to know whether there is a similar package in Oracle 10g because I want to trace the flow of plsql procedure and function calls in order to generate an output in a hierarchical way (for debug purposes).
    The following example shows the flow of procedure calls when I execute PACKAGE_A.Proceudure_A. I want to generate that kind of an output.
    Ex -
    PACKAGE_A.Proceudure_A
    ----|_PACKAGE_A.Proceudure_B
    ----|------|_PACKAGE_B.Proceudure_C
    ----|_PACKAGE_B.Proceudure_M
    ----|------|_PACKAGE_A.Proceudure_B
    ----|-------------|_PACKAGE_C.Proceudure_C
    ----|_PACKAGE_Z.Proceudure_Z
    If there is no similar package in *10g* I would really appreciate if someone can provide me directions to get the job done using the exsting packages and tables in Oracle 10g. Thanks in advance.

  • How to call plsql procedure or function and getting back the string?

    Hi Everyone,
    i am using Jdev 11.1.1.5.0.
    i have a requirement to call plsql procedure or function from my backing bean java file and get back the returned value from the procedure or function.
    what piece of simple code i need to write in my backing bean?
    please suggest.
    Thanks.

    As always you write the method to call he pl/sql in the application module, expose this method to the client (so you see it in the datacontroll) then create a operation binding to the method and call this operation from the bean. The result you get by operation.getResult();
    You should never call pl/sql from the bean directly!
    The doc shows how to call the procedure from an application module: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/b31974/bcadvgen.htm#sm0297

  • How to trace plsql procedures call stack in EBS?

    Hi experts,
    I'm an newbie EBS user. EBS itself provides excellent trace function, which tells us sql scripts executed and corresponding cost information.
    This is quite useful for EBS performance tuning, but not for debugging. At many times, i need to know which PLSQL procedures are called and
    the complete stack after i do some operation on the EBS GUI. But no solution comes to me.
    Appreciate your help, thanks in advance.
