Turn off authenticate to install a program through terminal

Hello,
I am trying to install a program called Pearl speaks NONMEM (PsN), an academic open-source program which pairs with another academic program, NONMEM. However, when it get's to the point:
"mkdir /Library/Perl/5.12/PsN_3_5_3"
it cut's out, saying "Permission denied". I assume this is because to create folders in Library, it needs me to authenticate, but PsN is not sophisticated enough to cope with authentication. Is there any way I can turn authenticate off briefly to install the program (and then turn it back on again)?
Thanks for any help!
Rollo

I question whether you should be doing this without more shell knowledge, but you can temporarily acquire root privileges from an admin account by prefacing the command with "sudo" and entering your login password when prompted; e.g., "sudo mkdir..." If you make a mistake, there's a very real possiblility of destroying all your data, even including backups under some circumstances.

You don't, just select another tool. I usually leave mine on the move tool, since that is used the most.

  • When installing third party software, how do I temporarily turn off the factory installed virus sw and firewall?

when installing third party software, how do I temporarily turn off the factory installed virus sw and firewall?  Is it necessary on a Mac to do so?  I come from the Windows world and am still in the learning curve on the Mac.

Correct.  I have not installed ANY other software for anti-virus, etc.  I want to install a Synch app for my HTC phone to sych with MS Outlook 2011 installed on my Mac.    HTC will not synch with it otherwise.  That was really the basis for my question....if installing a non Apple app can be done without messing with factory settings on the Mac.  In Windows I remember that I needed to disable Norton and the Firewall in order for installation to occur.
    Thanks.

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

Hi Jen.  My daughter just compleated her nursing program and is now working as a full time nurse.  Focus and study hard and soon you will be there too.  Now to the problem at hand.  I have the same problem.  I gave up on it and satisfied myself with my iPod without the upgrade.  Reason being I've read so many posts of people having problems after the upgrade.  But I'm sure other factors are involved.  Nevertheless here is the fix most say works to solve the problem:  What ever virus protection you have installed on your computer, disable it.  Then try to install the update. After that enable the protection. I had Kaspersky, and it does it's job well. The thinking is, the virus protection is blocking the upgrade.  Hope this works.   Charlie

  • Three Way Color Corrector: turn off green clipping info in program monitor???

How can I turn off the green indicator in the program window, that highlights my blacks that contain no image information. I applied a three-way-color corrector via an adjustment layer. Many thanks!

    Hi Joe,
I am running on a MacBook Pro, OSX 10.8.3, my graphics card is:
Chipset Model:          Intel HD Graphics 3000
      Type:          GPU
      Bus:          Built-In
      VRAM (Total):          512 MB
      Vendor:          Intel (0x8086)
      Device ID:          0x0116
      Revision ID:          0x0009
      gMux Version:          1.9.23
I shot on a flat picture profile with a Nikon D800 and played with the input levels in the 3-way-color corrector. Again, if I brighten the whole image, these indicators will disappear; if I darken the image, they will grow. It is not an artefact, it is a way to show me my crushed blacks. Like a zebra function in cameras. I just cannot find a way to turn this off.
    Thanks again,
    Carl

  • How to "turn off" dispatch of MQ to mdb through bridge?

I'm doing some research on architectural options for an application. I'm looking at integrating MQ and JMS (MDB) with the Messaging Bridge. An important requirement will be the ability to have code "turn off" and "turn on" the dispatching of MQ messages through the bridge to JMS. Once the dispatching is "turned off", messages sent to the MQ queue will stay there, until dispatching is enabled again.
              Is this straightforward to do?

I'm not sure why you say that I "pointed out" that there is no need for a startup class. I don't think I said that.
There's a couple of things I don't understand with respect to using Foreign JMS Destinations vs. a startup class.
First, if I'm just using a FJMSD, I don't see where the MQ-specific parameters are set for the connection factory. For instance, how does it know the name of the queue manager?
Second, if I'm forced to use a startup class instead of FJMSD, is it not possible to instead use a webapp, forcing the init order? I would think, if anything, this might have trouble with the classpath, as the classes bound to JNDI in this webapp may be different classes (even if they're the same name) available to the MDB, but I'm not certain about this.

As stated above I accidently turned off my mac during an install of lion. Before installing lion i used disk utillity to delete the Hdd and now it wont resume the instalation. It´s booting with the lion disk and enters the instalation, but comes up with a fail message saying that lion connot be installed. I have tried to redelete my Hdd using diskutility but it still wont work. cannot seen to get anywhere from here.
    what to do...?

I had a similar problem.  See this problem / answer for a solution:
        http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    which I found at:
        https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3207417
Resetting the PRAM by pressing Command-Option-P-R during the boot was all I had to do.  It automatically did a restart and I pressed Option to get prompted for the boot drive (don't know if I had to do that last part).

  • Do you turn off firewall to install Adobe Flash?

I downloaded Adobe Flash and installed it. However, it does not show up in Applications and I still am turned way by many viewing sites like iTunes, etc. How about if I try turning off the firewall before beginning this process once again?

Flash is not an application, so it wouldn't be in the Applications folder. It includes a preference pane, which you will find in System Preferences. There is no Flash content on any Apple website, so if you're having trouble with content from Apple, it's not because of Flash.

  • Turn OFF prompt to Install Updates for iTunes (as I deleted iTunes)

    Hello:
I deleted iTunes as I did not like it very much at all.
Now I cannot stop the Mavericks Software App Updater telling me there is an update to install. There is no button I can see to say "ignore this update".
I dont want to turn OFF all Mavericks Software App Updater, I just want it to stop telling me about itunes.
    how do I do this?
    thankyou for your help.

    Thankyou Eric
To re-index spotlight in Mavericks OSX , I understood from reading forum posts the steps are a bit quirky.
    They are:
    1) System Preferences/Sportlight and navigate to the privacy tab
    2) add the directory e.g. users which is reallly nearly all my HD
    3) close the System Preferences/Spotlight
    4) reopen system prefereneces/spotlight
    5) and remove the the directory you just added.
Do you know if this is correct?
    thankyou

  • Macbook Pro turns off during OS install

I have been given a 1st gen MacBook Pro to upgrade (clean install of Snow Leopard and a few apps). Specs are 2.16GHz with 2GB RAM and a (non-standard) 640GB drive. It is second hand so I don't know the history of it. After booting from SL DVD and starting the install (format drive first) the laptop turned off after a few minutes. Repeated process and same result and also tried a Leopard install DVD with the same result.
Any ideas? Never seen or heard of this ever happening to a machine short of having a power failure! The battery is fine and it will boot and run normally from an external drive.
    Any help appriciated.
    Cheers, Paul

  • Opening program through terminal on install disc

okay, so here is my situation: I am booting from the OS X install disc (can't get onto my internal HDD), and then going to Disk Utility (I have external HDD attached), mounting a disk image on the external HDD (the application is also directly on the /Volumes/External HD), and trying to run this program from Terminal on the install disc by changing to the directory, and then doing "open programname", only to find that "open" isn't a command that exists. However, I am pretty sure that is the command. Anyone know how to do this? (the program is a .app btw).

I've used the open command in Terminal to launch a program which will open the particular file, you add the application option to the open command:
    Tigin:~ francine$ open -a TextWrangler /Users/francine/Desktop/mwindex.html
You can also open a program in Terminal with the complete path to the program's executable, ie:
    Tigin:~ francine$ /Volumes/Not200/Applications/Utilities/BatChmod.app/Contents/MacOS/BatChmod
It will only run as long as the Terminal window is open.
