Turn off Mac sleep when iPod connected

Is there a way to make a PowerMac running MacOS X 10.4.2 NOT go to sleep when an iPod is connected? I can only charge my iPod by connecting it to the USB bus of the computer. The first time I was charging it, my Mac put the display to sleep and I couldn't get it to wake up. I eventually had to shut down my Mac and then reboot it.
I'd like to be able to set my Mac to sleep normally when nothing is connected but to stay awake with the iPod connected. Is this possible?

Thanks for the help.
However, I posted this question in another forum and was pointed to an Applescript which utilized the 'pmset' command to change the sleep settings. With that knowledge I was able to write a Unix csh script which checks to see if the iPod is mounted and, if so, calls the pmset command to disable sleep. If the iPod is not mounted, the pmset command is called to enable sleep. In case anyone is interested, here is the script:
#!/bin/csh
if (`\ls /Volumes | /usr/bin/grep iPod | wc -l` != 0) then
/usr/bin/pmset -a displaysleep 0 disksleep 0 sleep 0
else
/usr/bin/pmset -a displaysleep 15 disksleep 30 sleep 30
endif
I then used the Unix 'cron' facility to have the script run once every minute. So, once a minute the system checks to see if the iPod is connected and, if so, disables sleep.
Thanks anyway for the suggestions.

  • Turning off your computer when iPod touch is connected

Whenever I sleep or turn off my computer while my iPod is asleep the iPod turns on. I don't know why but it just does.

What is happening is no different than when you unplug your iPod from the computer - you wake it up.
BTW, do not leave your iPod plugged into your computer when it is in sleep mode or turned off. You can drain the iPod's battery. The only exception might be if you left it plugged into a powered hub.

    Hello,
I am currently an owner of an Ipod Touch 4th generation. I see you are having problems with your Ipod Touch, so I will try to find a solution to your problem.
Hold down the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons for at least 10sec. or until Apple logo appears (Nothing will be lost, this is just a "Hard Reset")
    Hope that helps!
If none of the above solutions work, can you please respond back ASAP as I will try to find another solution to your problem (This might even help others with the same problem!)
    Cheers!

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues. .
Next try placing in DFU mode and then restoring.

  • My ipod nano 6 keeps turning off the music when i touch the sleep button

Hi my Ipod nano 6th keeps turning off the music when I touch the sleep/wake button.
    What should I do?

Your problem is that your iPod is not sensing that your headset is inserted. There is a pin inside the headphone port on the Nano that senses if it is inserted fully. If it does not sense anything, it will pause playback when the screen turns off to save battery power. Here are the solutions:
Insert it fully. This will fix it for most of you. Press that thing in there all the way. You should feel and hear a full click when it is fully seated. If you can see ANY silver of the headset jack, it is not fully inserted.
Debris inside the headset port. If you are totally unable to push the headset jack all the way, the most likely problem is that you have crud inside your headphone jack. Try blowing it out or slapping it against your palm with the headset port facing your palm to try and get the stuff out. If you look into he jack with a light, you should be able to see to the bottom. The entire inside of the headset port is white, so if it looks dark at the bottom, that is the crud that is keeping your nano from working.
Headset jack or plug issue. If you cannot solve the problem with 1 or 2, then there is likely something physically wrong with either the headset jack on your headphones or the headset port on the nano.

Hi , and a warm welcome to the forums!
Could be many things, we should start with this...
    "Try Disk Utility
    1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
    2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu at top of the screen. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
*Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.*
    3. Click the First Aid tab.
    4. Select your Mac OS X volume.
    5. Click Repair Disk, (not Repair Permissions). Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk."
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106214
Then try a Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, reboot when it completes.
(Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive.)
If perchance you can't find your install Disc, at least try it from the Safe Boot part onward.
    If 10.7.0 or later...
Bootup holding CMD+r, or the Option/alt key to boot from the Restore partition & use Disk Utility from there to Repair the Disk, then Repair Permissions.
And sorry to report that OSX is more Widows like than ever, but….
If that doesn't help Reinstall the OS.

I was only able to print one page and then both my printer and my computer would display an error message about the printer's inability to print.  Since then I've been able to resolve my specific problem.
    I
    1. uninstalled HP from my computer (checked to ensure that my printer was no longer visible in my printers and the HP Utility software was nowhere to be found),
    2. grabbed the software/driver update from Aug, 2010,
    3. installed the Aug, 2010 update, and my problems seem to have been fixed.
This is where I got my 2010 update from (obviously you should get the driver/software applicable to your OS and specific printer):

  • Cannot turn off Homesharing to AppleTV: IPv6 connections remain

I CANNOT prevent my AppleTV from sharing my iTunes Library even though ALL sharing on my computer (including "home sharing" in iTunes) is turned OFF
There are several discussions about Homesharing not working if the AppleTV has gone asleep for over 24 hours.
In "most cases", restarting the AppleTV and/or restarting iTunes will solve this problem.  On occasion, I have had to reboot the computer that was suppose to be sharing.
I have two computers.  One with Homesharing (system 1) on and the other with Homesharing (and all sharing) turned off. (system 2)
When I restart the AppleTV so that it will see the iTunes library for system 1, it will -also- pick up the iTunes library for system 2.
The Bonjour Sleep Proxy is somehow involved in this.  It keeps the ARP table populated with IP addresses of systems that have gone to sleep.  (AppleTV)   An Airport Extreme will run the Bonjour Sleep Proxy.  I have found that the AEX will cause as many as 60 DAAP sockets (both v4 and v6) to be open on my computers -- if iTunes is running.  When the AppleTV wakes up, restarting it seems to clear these extraneous DAAP sockets and ONLY ipv6 sockets remain open on system 2.
On system 1 (Homesharing enabled) has 3 ipv4 sockets open for DAAP.
This appears to mean that when Homesharing is turned off it is ignored by IPv6.
On further investigation, I note that link local addresses are being used between the AppleTV and system 2.
    tcp6       0      0  johns-macbook-pr.daap  great-room-apple.54552 ESTABLISHED
    tcp6       0      0  johns-macbook-pr.daap  great-room-apple.54551 ESTABLISHED
    tcp6       0      0  johns-macbook-pr.daap  great-room-apple.54550 ESTABLISHED
The only problem is that the MAC address these connections are made over are to the Airport Extreme
    great-room-apple-tv.local               90:72:40:c:8c:9f     en1 22h54m16s S
    fe80::cbc:15ab:bdd7:98b7%en1    90:72:40:c:8c:9f     en1 22h54m0s  S
    ? (10.0.1.1) at 90:72:40:c:8c:9f on en1 ifscope [ethernet]
Of course, this is a side-effect of using Bonjour Sleep Proxy.
When the appleTV is asked to list the contents of the iTunes Library on System 2, the MAC address is corrected to the Apple TV.
But the problem remains that HomeSharing for system 2 is OFF.  How did this information get into the Apple TV and why does System 2 even answer?
Attempting to turn off IPv6 on system 2 has resulted in "System Preferences" freezing and being "force quit"
(I set up IPV6 for manual configuration but did not enter any address.  A warning message came up saying an address was required but System Preferences no longer responded.)
Properly entering "::" for all zeros worked.  But that still does not disable "link-local" addresses.  So restarting the AppleTV -STILL- shows system 2 iTunes Library being available over IPv6 sockets.

I really do not think it is the iPad or your network connection. Other users have reported this very same issue. Try this and see if it works for you - it may not work - but it's easy to try - harmless - and it has worked in the past for others.
Try signing out of your account and restart your iPad.
Go to Settings>Store>Apple ID and tap the ID and sign out. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button. Go back to Settings>Store> Apple ID and sign in again.

  • Turning off MAC filtering

I can't connect to the internet and the problem is with my airport extreme/leopard. I need to find out how to cut off the MAC address filtering to allow my iPhone and windows computer to connect to the internet. I have the modem ethernet plug in my airport, and another ethernet cable coming from that to my windows PC. Both the PC and my iPhone get the 169 IP address and the subnet of 255.255.0.0, so this is an issue with the security on my airport extreme. This issue wasn't there when I had tiger installed but I recently upgraded to Leopard and all of a sudden this is an issue. How do you turn off MAC filtering as I am sure this is the issue holding me up.

Open the Airport Utility, which is in Applications > Utilities.
Select your Airport Extreme and click "Manual Setup".
    Choose the Access Control tab.
Set MAC Address Access Control to "Not Enabled" and click "Update".
