Turn off my iPod nano, Turn off my iPod nano

How to turn off my iPod nano without using play/pause?

That IS how you turn it off; the only other way, is to let it sit for a while, and it will turn off automatically, if it's not playing any music.

  • IPod Nano turns itself on, and won't stay off

    Hi, everybody!
I've had my iPod Nano for about two years now, and have noticed this problem occasionally, but it usually goes away and it has never been this bad.
Here is one scenario: I turn my iPod off by holding the play button. The screen fades to black. I move to set my iPod down, and it immediately lights up again. I press and hold the play button, but instead of turning off, the iPod begins to play music. I pause the song and press and hold again. The iPod fades to black, but again lights up the minute I move my hand.
Here is another scenario: the iPod has been off for several hours. Suddenly, it lights itself up. I pick it up and turn it off, but it again continues to light up as it sits on the desk.
This, of course, runs down the battery--I've had to charge my iPod every day for the past few days because it kills itself, waking up over and over when I'm not around to turn it off again. I'm used to only needing to charge it every few days.
I've tried setting the hold switch once I do get it to sleep, but all that means is that I then have to take it out of hold again a few seconds later to turn it off when it lights itself up. I've restarted over and over, but it keeps happening. I've also recently restored it, with no results. I don't have any alarms set, and there is nothing on my iPod but music and album artwork--no calendar, etc.
It seems to do this most when I am moving around the room. I'm wondering if, somehow, it has become hyper-sensitive and is waking up because it thinks it's being touched? (That sounds so creepy.) It also wakes up instantly if I touch the USB port on the bottom. But of course it also must do this when I'm not around, because often I'll come into the room to find the battery 50% lower than it was when I left. (And I'm the only one who uses my iPod.)
As I said, this has happened before over the two years of its life, but over the past three days or so, it has become nearly constant. I haven't dropped the iPod, it hasn't gotten wet, I haven't done anything unusual with it, so I am at a loss to explain the sudden recurrence of the issue.
I'd appreciate any kind of help!

  • Ipod Nano Turns off/on on its own

    hey guys.
My ipod nano works like a champ, but all of a sudden it has started turning on all on its own. It also wont charge when its hooked up to the alarm clock/dock.
    weird.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks for your help!

Make sure the battery is charged.
When the iPod shuts itself off, try "resetting" ..
Hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home button down at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.

  • I accidentally press Off  the Backlight in my 3rd generation  iPod Nano, how can I turn On the Backlight again?

I accidentally press Off the Backlight in my 3red generation iPod Nano, how can I turn it On again? Appreciate any help. Thanks.

What do you mean you turned off the backlight?  How did you do that?
Have you tried a hard reset to see if that takes care of it?  To this, first make sure the hold switch is in the Off position, then press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • My Ipod nano 7th generation turned off and won't turn back on. what should I do?

my Ipod nano 7th generation turned off and won't turn back on. what should I do?

If you have done the reset and nothing appears and you are sure it still has a charge and it doesn't turn on, you may request for a replacement if it still covered by the warranty. Cheers!

  • New iPod Nano Turns off in the middle of any track playing - Apple Bummer

So, I just received my iPod Nano as a replacement to an early generation of iPod Nano's that are subject to recall.  The new Nano has been updated as of 21 Jan 2012.  Songs loaded into iTunes under MAC OS X Lion, iPod Nano synched with my computer, and I'm ready to go.
What - not so fast!  Guess what?  The Nano turns itself off in the middle of any track you play.  I turned the shake and shuffle mode off to make sure that is not it.  And it is fully charged.  I even went through the reset procedures.
So its less than 24 hours new/old so I go for Apple support.  My original iTunes etc accounts are associated with my house in America.  But I live in the UK right now.  So drill through Apple support and guess what?  Well, I live in London so no support is available.  And the Apple web site as usual does not provide much help in making calls.
Apple's web site says there is no coverage on this as it is out of warranty?  24 hours new?  No warranty.  It says it comes with a one year warranty. And Apple UPS'd it to me yesterday.
So question 1 is:  Does anybody know what the problem is and how to fix it?  I hope it isn't operator head space but who knows, maybe it is.
And question 2:  Does anybody have a good 800 number for me to call in the USA?
    Many thanks.

I have the same problem and wondered if it was loosey goosey headphones which were just cheap 10 dollars buds.  So are you saying I should get new ear phones that fit tighter?
That would be my guess....Here is what Apple has to say about the problem.
       http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3700
My guess is that it is a compatibility problem with older or aftermarket ear buds.  My daughter has a 6th generation Nano and does not have this problem but keep in mind she is using the ear buds that came with the 6th Generation Nano.  With the replacement program they are not sending new ear buds.  I just did a test with my daughters 6th Generation Nano using an old set of aftermarket ear buds I had in my desk and I was able to duplicate your issue.  I then used the ear buds from my Iphone 4s and did not have an issue with the Nano going to sleep and the music turning off.

    Hello kidmango,
I am going to have to agree with planb77. Look into other drivers in your computer causing the issue, not just the nano's drivers.
It is possible that security software is the culprit. Use this:
    iTunes: Troubleshooting security software issues
You may have to restore your computer to a previous point. From before the issue started. Contact computer manufacture or Windows for steps, or do a search with a search engine.
I would test the ipod on a known good computer to see if its the ipod is the issue. My gut says no. You can set a reservation at an Apple Retail Store. Apple.com/retail .You can also test a known good ipod on your computer.
    Hope this helps.

  • Why does my ipod nano turn off and on?

why does my ipod nano turn on and off?

    Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.
Did you try everything above, including trying on another computer? If so then

  • Should I turn Nano 6g off to save battery?

Should I turn Nano 6g off to save battery or just hit sleep like iPod Touch? I know on the iPod Touch, you should put it to sleep because it takes more power to boot up, is this the same case for the 6G Nano? or should I shut it off to save battery? Thanks!

You have no other option then other than to look for it as you would anything else you might lose such as your keys or a sock. Sorry.

  • Ipod 5G turning on and off problem

Hope someone could help me with this, basically I got my ipod for less than a month, and I am facing the following problems.
1)"Sometimes" when turning on the ipod there was no response till pressing the buttons for several times, at the same time a black and white apple sign also showed up
2)Ocassionally when shutting the ipod off while watching or listening files by pressing the play/pause for more than 10 seconds the ipod won't shut off where all it does is pause, I need to retry turning off several times for the ipod to shut off.

"I need to press several buttons simultaneously for it to turn on is that normal?"
No, you should be able to wake the iPod up by pressing any button (so Apple tells us). However, my iPod video will only wake up when I press the select button. Same for my nano.
This contrary to what Apple tells us.
"To wake iPod from deep sleep, press any button."
However, the iPod 5th gen and the nano have "hibernation" which is basically a power conservation mode similar to deep sleep.
There isn't anything specific in the deep sleep article which relates to waking these two iPods up. Pressing any button won't wake mine up, I've always found the select button does it.

  • My iPod touch turned off on me and then it deleted all my pictures. HELP?!

My iPod (4th gen.) has been freezing a lot lately! Ive had it for about 8 monthes now and so today it was really bugging me, so i decided to turn it off. When i turned it back on, there was a picture of the usb connected to iTunes. I was freaking out cause i thought it might delete my things. I went and connected it and let it do its thing. It updated and then it started restored the apps & music but it didnt restore my pictures. I had about 1,500 pictures and i only got back 200. So my question is, can i get them back!? Because i seriously am freaking out and i never saved them anywhere else! Please and thank you!! You seriously would save my life!

It sounds like the iPod expereienced a problem which esentually erased the iPod.  The you updated it and restord from backup.  It appears that the backup only had about 200 photos.  If the photos are not somewhere else on the computer they are gone.

  • HT203175 My iPod touch is off and I can't turn it on because when I try, it has the iTunes logo and a usb pointing to it...and when I connect it to my computer and try to open it to iTunes, it says I have to restore it, but I don't want to lose all my pic

My iPod touch is off and wont turn on because it has the itunes logo and a usb pointing to it, so when i looked it up online, it says i have to restore it but i don't want to because i don't want to lose all my pictures. What can I do?

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
