Turning off Edge

I have a 3G iPhone (in the USA) and I'm trying to access the iTunes store.
When I turn it on I have full AT&T bars and a full (free) Wi-Fi signal.
Regardless of if 3G is enabled or not it stays on the Wi-Fi until I try to open a connection to the internet (Apps, iTunes, Weather, etc.). I can get both 3G and Edge for the internet connection.
The issue is that when I try to open iTunes, and it switches to either 3G or Edge, it will not open since I need to be on Wi-Fi. I can disable the 3G but can I disable the Edge so I may remain on Wi-Fi and access iTunes?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Are you getting a valid IP address from the wiFi network you are connecting to?
Will WiFi stay on if you use like Youtube, Safari or any other internet service?

You do not want your EDGE signal?
Manage Connections > Mobile Network > turn off your mobile data.
Now, try only using WiFi and data, such as using the browser. Does that work?

  • Turn off Edge ?

How do I turn off Edge in my iPhone 3GS on OS 3.1.3 ?
Edge/3G are expensive here and by mistake I open apps and it started fetching data and gives me a huge bill!
Please tell me how to turn off EDGE ?

This is crazy! Why doesn't Apple give customers option to disable EDGE! Why are we forced to use edge when we dont need it? I have just lost 67 bucks just because of this in 3 days!
I dont know why Apple does this..

  • Turning off edge on iphone??

im using iphone 3g,i need to turn off my edge as its make lose a lot of money,im a celcom prepaid user, please help

It is not possible to turn off EDGE.  Even if it were possible, doing so would not affect the usage of the cellular system.
It is possible to turn off 3G and to turn off Cellular data.
Both can be turned off in Settings > General > Network.

  • How Can i turn off edge ???

I don't have an unlimited internet plan, so i want to know how do i turn off edge ??? i really need to know that !!!

    It is possible.
Go to Settings > General > Network > Edge
Delete whatever is on APN, Username and Password.
Technically speaking, you're not disabling EDGE but, practically speaking, you're doing it. Once iPhone doesn't have EDGE configuration, it won't access it.
If you try to access applications that require web in a place you don't have wi-fi, you'll be prompted an error message telling you EDGE it's not set, so you'll know you were successful disabling it.
    Hope it helps.

  • Turn off edge/anchor highlighting

I must have pressed some keyboard shortcut and turned on this edge/anchor highlighting. Now, when I put my cursor over any line, it highlights it in aqua and says "edge" and when I put my cursor over any anchor it highlights it and says "anchor." It's extremely annoying and I want to turn it off. But I don't know what it is called to even search for how to do this. Can someone please tell me what this feature is called and where it is controlled in Illustrator?
    I'm using CS3 on Windows.

I actually is the default setting for Smart Guides you can turn off smart guide in the View Menu and go to the preferences and tell it what you want displayed as well and keep them on.
Command U is smart guides on and off.

  • Use Wi-Fi and Turn Off EDGE for International Access

I will be travelling to the Bahamas next week and have a question about the data on my phone.
AT&T says that you need to be a customer for 3 months before international voice calls will work. Fine.
They say data however, will be charged at 0.03 / kb when international, and text messages will be 0.25 / message.
My question is, I will be in a house that has a wireless network. How can I get my phone to use the wi-fi network and stay connected to that and not default to EDGE when asleep or if the wi-fi dies. Is there a way to disable EDGE?
Do I just need to resort to having airplane mode ON the whole time I am abroad just for safety.

FYI you don't need to be a customer for three months in order to make and receive international phone calls. I used to have Sprint, but switched to AT&T when I got my iPhone on June 29. I traveled to Ireland 8/12-8/22 and had AT&T add their $5.99/mo World Traveler plan which allowed me to make and receive calls at $0.99 per minute. It worked without a problem. When I returned home, I canceled the World Traveler plan. Also, ask about their International SMS Text plan for $9.99. They neglected to tell me about it before I traveled, but retroactively signed me up when I got home after I called them on it. For $9.99/month you get 100 SMS messages and are charged $0.20 per SMS after that. Without the plan you'll be charged $0.50 per SMS. If you expect to make more than 20 SMS messages, it's worth it. Similarly to the World Traveler plan, you can cancel this option after your trip.

  • Turn off the "E" ?

Okay, I've just about had it...
I've been reading that calls will not come through if Edge is running.
So, of course, I am getting no calls.
    I've tried resetting.
    I've tried turning WI-Fi, turning off wi-fi
That $#%$$ E is always there.
    I can't have a phone that doesn't get calls.
plus it is STILL time stamping the calls at the time i unlock the phone, NOT when the calls come in.
do i just have a bad phone?????

Currently, you cannot turn off Edge. I hear rumors that it is coming in an update because the UK version showed this ability during the press announcement.
Maybe this bit of info might help
"iPhone Atlas reports that the issue has to do with what type of EDGE network you’re connected to.
The “may not be able to receive calls” portion stems from the fact that there are two types of EDGE network types, NOM1 and NOM2. When your iPhone is connected to a NOM1 network, the data transmission will generally be interrupted, and the incoming call allowed to come through. When your iPhone is connected to a NOM2 network, however, the EDGE data transfer process cannot be interrupted, and the call will generally go to voicemail.
You can you tell which network you’re connected to by dialing 3001#12345# and tapping Call to bring up the Field Test Mode. From there select GPRS Information and find the entry for nom. A 1 in this field indicates a NOM1 network connection a 2 indicates a NOM2 network connection."

  • Turning of EDGE UK Iphone - Help

Hi, I brought an iphone a few hours ago and have realised that I'm connected to EDGE when I don't want to be as this may cost (does it?). But anyway I want to be on my wifi network which is situated in my house, and although I keep trying to find a solution to turn off edge I just can't . It does say im connected to my wifi network but still has the 'E' in the left hand corner. I'm sure this is common and it's my mistake but It's bugging me and I need help!!

Visual voicemail messages are downloaded via the cellular network only so even when connected to a Wi-Fi network, EDGE is still available - if you Wi-Fi connection is lost or you go out of range. The switch between Wi-Fi and EDGE is automatic.
Data roaming is off by default with the iPhone. Data roaming must be turned on when roaming on another provider's network (if other than your own) in order to incur any data roaming charges. Other than this, you have an unlimited data plan with your provider.

  • If i turn off wifi my phone only goes to Edge and not 3g by default?!?!

I have a very wierd problem with iphone. mine isn't about 3g reception, as i get eprfect reception. the problem is if i turn on wifi and am connected to a network, once i tun off wifi or get out of wifi range, my phone will automatically revent to Edge, and not 3g. i have to go into network settings and disable, then re-enable 3g, and then 3g works perfectly. even if wifi option is on but im not connected to wifi, this works fine. but if and when i connect to a wifi network, suddenly my phone starts reverting back to edge when i either turn off wifi or move out of wifi range. i then have to disable and renable 3g for it to default back to 3g
whats the deal here!! this seems to be a glitch in the system. anybody else facing this problem?? im on 2.1 and i didn't have this problem with any of the previous 2.0.1 or 2.0.2 and was getting eprfect 3g every time.

I think reverting to Edge when in sleep mode is by design.
It make sense when you think about it. Why would you need 3G data speeds for a phone that is sleeping?
But it should pop back to 3G when you open the phone.
I have another thread where ACTIVE Edge transmission streams block switching to Wifi.
This sounds like all part of the same problem. It sounds like Apple reverted to the lowest power radio when in sleep mode, but has still not perfected the switching upon awakening.
If you wake your phone, but do NOT slide the Un-lock slider till you see 3G/wifi it seems to work better. However, it it doesn't work in 6 seconds, its not going to work at all in my experience.
Switching to 3G is so time consuming (not only MY time to initiate it but also the time it takes to actually wait out the "No Service" to get to a 3G icon) that I use very little 3G at all. I'd rather have a solid Edge reliability and
wifi than a flaky unpredictable and very limited coverage 3G. I think I wanted a iPhone V1.5 (half way between V1 and V2. Keep the 3G, its the source of a lot of headaches on this board).
In 3 years it might be different as 3G spreads, but right now 3G is not worth the trouble and expense given the plethora of free wifi.

  • How to turn off frame edge highlighting in CS5?

Has anyone discovered how to turn off the frame edge highlighting on rollovers. I find this feature visually distracting and quite annoying as I'm moving around a page. Send advice, please. Thx.

    Chief:
Sorry we got off track and didn't post the main workaround for Frame Edge Highlighting: Keep your hand on the spacebar.
This comes from  Mike Rankin in the InDesign Magazine Tip of the Week in January:
TIP: Spring-Loaded Tools to the Rescue
InDesign  tries very hard to help you align objects when you drag by snapping  them Do you dislike the Frame Edge Highlighting that appears when you  mouse over frames in CS5? Spring-loaded tools can help. Frame edge  highlighting only appears when you use one of the selection tools. With  spring-loaded tools, you can press and hold single keys to temporarily  switch to any other tool. As long as you hold the key for more than a  second, you'll switch back to your previous tool when you release the  key. You have plenty of choices (t, \, p, f, m, n, c, e, g, z, etc).
Holding  the spacebar also prevents the highlighting from appearing, and it's a  nice big place for your fingers to rest. Heck, you don't even have to  pay much attention to where you press--just rest your hand in the middle  of the keyboard and lift it up when you want to select something. But  don't hold v or a, which are the shortcuts for the selection tools.
    - Mike Rankin
(Mike had suggests this several times in the past year,  though not with the spacebar. E.g. he recommended 'H' back in June over  on
    InDesignSecrets. "H" for Hate).
There have been several threads on this, including the locked 201-post monster, Frame edge highlighting, and the feature request Allow Frame Edge Highlighting to be turned off, and frame edge highlights on hover.
Basically  the takeaway is that it only happens with the selection (V) and direct  selection (A) tools, and that multiple people have asked Adobe for a  control to turn it off, and they've finally added one, but only in CS5.5, not in a CS5 maintenance release.

  • IPAD2 Edge network getting dropped whenever i turn-off

IPAD2 is latching to my Tata DoCoMo network in India but Edge network is getting dropped whenever i turn-off and it needs a removal & re-insert of the mirco SIM again...how to address this issue?

What have you done to troubleshoot thus far?

  • Turning OFF GPRS/EDGE Connection

I have a iphone 3gs 16gb running on 3.1.2. I have enabled GPRS connection on my iphone by installing CONFIGURATION PROFILES using iPhone Configuration Utility. Now i want to enable/disable GPRS on my phone as per need basis. Is there any way to do it? My iphone is not hacked. It is an factory/officially unlocked iphone 3GS. I do not want to create multiple profiles to disable/enable GPRS.
I am also not able to find a menu or tab where i can do settings for APN.
Any clues how to resolve this?
    Regards,
    Bhavik

You cannot selectively turn off the data connectivity. Airplane Mode with Wi-Fi turned back on will stop access to cellular data, but will also prevent incoming/outgoing voice calls, SMS, etc., in addition to deactivating the GPS and Bluetooth radios.

  • How to turn off the Charms Bar in Windows 8.1

I have a new HP laptop with Windows 8.1. I absolutely HATE the charms bar. It's very annoying. I have turned off the corner function so the Charms bar no longer pops up if I swipe the corner edges, however, it still pops up randomly. I'll be typing along and it'll just pop up, blocking whatever I'm working on.
I have absolutely no need for this charms bar. In fact, the only thing I've used it for is to get to the option to turn them off. However, on this laptop, that doesn't completely turn them off.. I have tried going to the mouse control panel to turn them off, but that option isn't offered. However, I don't think it's the mouse pad causing them to pop up anyway.. I'll be typing along, not even touching the mouse pad, and they'll just suddenly pop up.
What is the cause of this and how can I get rid of it? I'm getting rather desperate and at times feeling the need to throw this laptop out the window!!! I much preferred my HP Windows XP laptop, and only replaced it because XP is no longer supported.. Window's 8.1 is one of the most frustating systems Microsoft has come up with.
Please help me to turn these dang things off for good!!
UPDATE: I think I found the solution. I received this link from a Microsoft Chat Line Employee. I followed the directions and the charms seem to be gone.. YAHOO...
    Here's the link:

UPDATED UDATE: lol... I posted this below, but will repost here.. The solution given to me by the Microsoft Chat Line employee did not work.. Well, it worked for one day, I shut it down for the night, and when I turned it back on in the morning, the charms were back with a vengence.. Seriously, worse than ever before, popping out constantly.  It was like they were really pissed off...
I went to Wally World and bought a $16 wireless mouse, which is keeping the charms at bay.. I actually think it's easier to use than the mouse pad on my laptop anyways. I can use it on the arm of my recliner, on my laptop next to the mouse pad, on a desk top (obviously), but the point being, unless I run the cursor to the very extreme right side of my screen, the charms have remained hidden...
I have a business website, and while working on it, the charms were constantly popping up as I was trying to add pictures and descriptions. It was seriously driving me out of my mind.. Everything was taking me twice as long to add, time I don't have to waste.. I've been working on it this morning using the wireless mouse and the charms bar has not popped out once..
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

For anyone who came here looking for the same solution, I finally did find one that seems to have worked..
I got this link from a Microsoft chat line employee. I followed the directions and the charms have not appeared for quite some time now.. Here's the link:
    http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-disable-the-edge-panels-charms-bar-and-switcher-in-windows-8/
Good luck to everyone trying to get rid of them.. They are one VERY annoying feature of Windows 8 and Windows 8.1

  • Turning off all battery draining services but keeping phone reception?

Is it possible to switch off all the services that drain batter life such as GPRS, EDGE, WI-FI etc etc etc with one switch and still keeping your phone reception. I know you can turn the phone on Airplane Mode but this loses your phone reception.
Also, can i ask. Does airplane mode turn off everything i mentioned above?

    Airplane Mode turns off:
    * All data types (WiFi, Edge, 3G, and GPRS) (WiFi can be turned on manually)
    * Your telephone service
    * Bluetooth
    * Location Services
It doesn't turn off music and videos or local games. Games that use high definition or applications like Navigon use the most power drain.
