Turning off optimization in iPhoto

Is there a way to turn off optimization in iPhoto? ~ I want to upload a series of full-sized images to my iPhone.

Or ask in the iPhone forum.
But the answer is no. Instead, look at the various apps that do file transfer to the iPhone (FileMagnet, AirSharing) and use them to move the images. I think there is may also be an app Portfolio.

  • Turn off Optimization in HotSpot?

I wrote a little Java application which captures images - it works great under JDK 1.2, but the performance is really uneven using JDK 1.3.
Could this be caused by Hotspot?
Is there a way to turn off optimization in Hotspot?
I don't necessarily want a purely interpreted program, but it needs to run consistantly. I think I still need some JIT for adequate performance.
    Thanks for the help.
    Drew

-Xint makes Java run in interpreted-only mode. -classic switches off HotSpot completely (uses the Java 1.2 VM). Please read this: http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.3/docs/tooldocs/win32/java.html

  • How do you turn OFF faces in Iphoto?

How do you turn OFF faces in Iphoto? I hate it.

When I collapse it the face boxes go away, but next thing I know it's expanded again.
    Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
User/Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder (Snow Leopard and Earlier).
or with Lion and Mt. Lion from the User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE:  In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

  • Can you turn off optimization while splitting events?

I want to move all my many thousands of iPhoto clips down to intermix with my other clips stored on an external drive. All seemed well, I drug them down like the apple tech told me to, but they appeared in a single event, which is bad enough, and the sound is missing, which also *****, but I've found that if I split the EVENTS back into their original date periods the sound comes back. (And I have to do that anyway so they will sort/intermix properly in the event area anyway which was my original goal.)
The PROBLEM is that every time I choose "split event before clip", it takes a minute or so for imovie to OPTIMIZE MOVIES after splitting the event.  Since I'm really not planning on doing anything other than splitting these **** events for the next month or so, is there any way to turn that feature off for a while?
For that matter is there any way to speed this process up? Any way at all?  All the movies are still in iPhoto, if there was a better way to do it I would.  I would just export them and import them directly, but then I lose all the original dates (Though I'm starting to wonder if that would be faster.)  I would be willing to buy external software if that would help.
And yes, I realize I could just drag them all down event by event, but that would take longer, because I believe I have to first create an event to drag them into. If that is incorrect let me know.  But at least on my computer, creating the event takes just as long as splitting the event, so this method saves me half the time.
It seems like there has got to be a better way to do this.
Or is there any way to split at multiple points?

    Flip the mute switch.

  • Can you turn off timer on iPhoto slide show

i would like to turn timer off on I photo slide show is it possible

    Hello there, scbullard.
The online iPhoto Help menu provides some great information for changing settings on your slideshows, including the length of time a slide plays:
    iPhoto Help: Change slideshow settings
    http://help.apple.com/iphoto/#pht6d9774ac
If you want to apple the change for the entire slideshow:
To change settings for an entire slideshow:
Select the slideshow in the Source list, click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click All Slides.
While a slideshow is playing, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button:
    Do one of the following:
To set the length of time each slide appears, select “Play each slide for a minimum of __ seconds,” and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds.
To play the slideshow as long as the music plays, select “Fit slideshow to music.”
To change the effect between slides, select the Transition checkbox, and then do one or both of the following:
Choose a transition from the pop-up menu. For some transitions, you can change the direction in which the effect occurs by clicking the arrows.
To change how long the transition lasts, drag the Speed slider.
Tip:  If transitions play too slowly, try decreasing your screen resolution (choose Apple menu > System Preferences, and then click Displays). Very large photos might also transition slowly; try changing the photo’s size (see Export a photo).
If you wish, specify additional slideshow settings:
To make each slide’s title, description, place, or date appear, select the Show Caption checkbox, and then choose an item from the pop-up menu.
To display slides in random order, select “Shuffle slide order.” If you don’t see this option, play the slideshow, move the pointer to make the slideshow controls appear, and then click the Settings button.
To automatically restart the slideshow when it’s over, select “Repeat slideshow.”
To prevent black borders from appearing on photos cropped to an aspect ratio that doesn’t match the display’s, select “Scale photos to fill screen.”
Choose an option from the Aspect Ratio pop-up menu, depending on where you’ll play the slideshow. If you don’t see this option, press the Escape key on your keyboard, and then click the Settings button in the toolbar.
If you want to make the change to individual slides:
To change settings for an individual slide:
Before you change settings for specific slides, it’s best to specify the settings for the slideshow as a whole. If you specify settings for individual slides and then change options for the whole slideshow, the slideshow settings might override the individual settings.
Select the slideshow in the Source list, and then select a slide in the photo browser at the top of the iPhoto window.
Click the Settings button in the toolbar, and then click This Slide at the top of the Slideshow Settings window.
Do any of the following (some options aren’t available for every slideshow theme):
To add an effect such as a sepia tint, click one of the effect thumbnails. To turn the effect off, click the thumbnail again.
To change the length of time the slide plays, select the “Play this slide for” checkbox and click the arrows to increase or decrease the number of seconds.
To change the slide’s transition effect, select the Transition checkbox and choose an option from the Transition pop-up menu. To change the transition’s duration, drag the Speed slider. For some transitions, you can also change the effect’s direction by clicking an arrow on the directional button.
Tip:  To see the transition, click the Preview photo.
To customize the slide’s pan and zoom effect, select the Ken Burns checkbox. For more information, see the task below.
Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Can't turn off optimizations

I have a scene graph that contains hundreds of Primitive spheres. I'm trying to set them different colours but the renderer has different ideads. I have set the capability to Primitive.Geometry_not_shared but it still seems to be sharing the Materail Colors between the objects. The colors are the foundations to the program and I'd hate to think that I have done all this programming in vain. Can anyone help?

Maybe i did not get your problem right, but why are you not using a new material object for each of the spheres, e.g.:
    Material m = new Material();
            m.setLightingEnable(true);
            m.setDiffuseColor(new javax.vecmath.Color3f(baseColor));
            m.setAmbientColor(new javax.vecmath.Color3f(baseColor));

  • How can i turn off faces

i can't turn off faces in iphoto although i had previously, with the new update i guess it cancelled it and now iphoto is trying to identify 12000 faces.. anyone  have instructions?

What ever - we are users just like you - creepy, not creppy, paranoid, not paranoid - we can not change anything - we just help people use it the way it is - that is all this forum is for - users helping other users
    LN
BTW I guess you have no idea how faces works - it does not identify people (yet) it identifies faces and you go in and assign people to the face - if you ignore it then all that Big Brother can see when they scan your computer every night is that you have photos that include people - which of course they already knew because everyone takes pictures of people

  • How to turn off iTunes photo "optimization"???

I have been pulling my hair out trying to find a work around for this problem. I am trying to sync several hundred photos to my iPhone. I have the 32GB model so space is no issue. The problem is that when I sync the pictures to my iPhone through iTunes, iTunes "optimizes" the photos. The optimization process reduces the resolution of the photos significantly, the photos were originally taken with my iPhone's camera! so they were not very high resolution to begin with! Why does iTunes work this way and how do I turn the photo optimizing feature off?? I would really like medium or high quality images on my iPhone which I can zoom in on. I really do not like the low quality images iTunes is forcing me to put on my iPhone. There must be an option to turn off this terrible feature...

The iPhone never was intended as a photo storage device. There are hard drives and thumb drives for that. You aren't losing your original quality photos, they are on your computer in iPhoto, Aperture, etc.
Personally, I prefer the ability of the iPhone to be able to show my hundreds of photos (to which I have the original high-res originals at home in iPhoto) on the go, which is the intent of the iPhone, rather than to just show the thumbnail of a few high-res photos I may have taken with my iPhone or elsewhere. This is how the iPhone was designed.
You have 3 things you can do:
    1) feedback to http://www.apple.com/feedback/iPhone.html
    2) research the features of electronic devices prior to future purchases
    3) get a different phone that better meets your needs.

  • How can I turn off the Gloss Optimizer on my Espon when printing PDFs?

I am using a Mac Pro with Mountain Lion and the Adobe CS6 package that came with Adobe Acrobat X (version 10.1.3).
As with the other programs in CS6, when I print I cannot turn off the Gloss Optimizer. I used one cartridge in on day. Expensive to say the least.
I checked out the color profiles for the printer and Adobe does not have a "SPR1900 Plain Paper / Bright White Paper" to select. They seem to have everyting Epson offers but that. They do have something called "SPR1900 Standard". Don't know what that means and it does not solve the problem. I suspect the issue is that all the choices override my printer commands. Has anyone else had this issue and, if so, have you arrived at any solution.
I called Adobe about this and they are aware of the issue. They cannot resolve it on the fly. I have to wait for them to address it and then for it be included in a major release (not an update). Very frustrating. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi,
You may not have a wireless network adapter.
If it is not in Network Adapters and you have no Device Manager errors or disabled devices under Network Adapters then that would be the case.

  • Trying to restore photos from external drive and realized TimeMachine had been turned off.  Found in Imac backup folder in iPhoto library a modified folder with many of the missing pics.  Can I restore these?

I recently had a hard drive crash on my iMac.  After replacing the drive, I discovered that TimeMachine had apparently been turned off for six months, and all my photos from that period were missing after the restore.  In looking on the external drive used by TimeMachine, I discovered a folder called Imac backup, and under iPhoto Library was a folder called Originals and subfolders for each year.  To my surprise, there were photos covering the missing time period!  Somehow I imported the 2011 folder from the external drive into iPhoto, and then I discovered they were small files of less than 100 KB each, not the 1-2 MB original photos.  So now all of 2011 is screwed up, not just from May on.  These photos also include faces pulled from many larger group photos.
I can get Jan - April restored using TimeMachine.  But in continuing to explore the Imac backup folder, I found a similar folder in iPhoto Library called Modified.  This folder has many of the missing photos in their original MB size in folders indexed by date for the missing period after April.  Is there a way that I can get these modified photos back onto my new hard drive and into the iPhoto library without causing more damage?  If TimeMachine was turned off after April, how did those modified photos and all those small images from the missing period find their way to the external drive?
    Any wisdom greatly appreciated.

What you want to do is merge the two Libraries? The only way to do this is to use the paid ($20) version of iPhoto Library Manager
I created a new iPhoto Library on the iMac and dragged the entire iPhoto Library from the MacBook into that new Library. It worked, however it all came over into one big album and my previous album structure was gone
Never import one Library to another. Every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.

  • Yesterday, I plugged in my iPod to sync, and my computer opened iPhoto as it always does. It obviously recognized the device, but the iPod sis not appear in iTunes and I therefore could not sync it. Is there a setting I may have accidentally turned off?

and my computer opened iPhoto as it always does. It obviously recognized the device, but the iPod sis not appear in iTunes and I therefore could not sync it. Is there some setting I may have accidentally turned off?
Also, today, there seems to be no sound coming through either my internal speakers or my headphones, and not just in iTunes. I doubt these two problems are related, but perhaps there is something beyond coincidence and an old computer?

but the iPod sis not appear in iTunes and I therefore could not sync it.
Try reinstalling the AMDS >  iTunes: How to remove and reinstall the Apple Mobile Device Service on Mac OS X
there seems to be no sound coming through either my internal speakers or my headphones, and not just in iTunes
For sound issues check System Preferences > Sound
Make sure the Mute button is not selected.

  • How do I turn off auto split in iPhoto ?

How do I turn off auto split in iPhoto? I have about 8,000 old photos I would like to import but it splits them in to loads of events. Would just like to leave them in year folders.

First try, if importing a sample folder with two images with different days, more than a week apart, will import them as only one event on your mac and  the autosplit is behaving the same for you as for me.
May be I will have to do it folder by folder which will take for ever.
Would it be possible for you to join some of the folders before importing?
Or join your events in iPhoto after importing. Creating yearly events is fairly simple (tested in iPhoto 9.5.1)
Create a smart album for each year (File > New ) with the smart rule "Date is in the range ...."
Then select all photos in this smart album and use the command from the "events" menu "create event". This will collect all photos in a new yearly event.
