Turning off screen refresh

Hi,
We have a screen written in Forte UDS that highlights cells in different colours. Upon scrolling, these are updated to ensurevthe highlighting is correct. This does however cause a flicker on the screen as each cell is refreshed.
Is there a way of turning off automatic screen refresh, so we can do this, and then turn it back on again once we're finished ?

Hello jwarne1,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Best of luck,

The only way you can turn it off is to close the lid - so you would need an external wired or wireless keyboard and mouse/trackpad attached.

  • Turn-Off screen keeps coming up - maybe broken sleep button?

    hey there,
i got my 3gs on saturday (t-mobile, germany) and it worked great for exactly one day. on sunday i noticed that the phone woke up from time to time showing the turn off screen, which usually appears if you hold down the sleep button for some seconds (red slider at the top).
after that, the same screen popped up more often, it even interrupts other actions by appearing on top of applications like phone or mail.
sometimes the phone will make a screenshot of the current screen if i push the home button, so it seems like the sleep key is stuck.
the phone has no visible damages, the button looks normal and doesn't act jammed.
all this happens unpredictably so i can't reproduce it, but its happens pretty often by now and is anoying as ****
i tried restarting the phone, resetting the prefs, resetting everything, restoring in via itunes etc.
guess is have to send it back, i just wanted to ask for more ideas and leave a mark for other affected users.
    regards
    jan

Bad news. I got my 3GS Saturday (6/27) at the local Apple Store. By Sunday morning, I noticed the "random" power off slider. Sometimes, the sleep switch works, sometimes it doesn't. It's gotten progressively worse...after less than 72 hours of ownership. I have a case open with Apple and a Genius appointment in 2 days. In the meantime, I suggest you DO NOT power off your phone. Apple had me do a reset (for the 4th time) and the phone would power down DURING the boot. After 10 minutes..and pressing NOTHING, it suddenly started up and ran. The sleep switch is virtually dead. The Apple rep mentioned something about "cracked circuit boards", but did not elaborate. I suspect something in the assembly process is trashing the board the switch is attached to.

How do I turn off screen curtain on my iPad?

    Turn off screen curtain
If VoiceOver is on and the screen is black, but you can still use the device by pressing volume up and volume down, you may have screen curtain on.
Try triple-tapping using three fingers on the device display to turn off screen curtain.

  • Can I turn off screen rotation?

I would like to know if I can turn off screen rotation espicially in music.
    Thanks,
    Dave

Unfortunately, you cannot with a 2G iPod touch, and, if your info is correct at the bottom of your post, not with iOS 3. This was a feature for iOS 4, but again, even if you had iOS 4, 2G's weren't given that feature for whatever reason.

  • Turn off screen while using Drive

    Hi,
How can I turn off screen, to save battery, while using Drive? When I press power button, screen turns off, but I lose voice navigation.

    Hi karlo1020lumia,
    Welcome to the forum!
What is the model of your device? If you're referring to the Nokia Drive application, this is a normal behavior. The screen must be active for the application to work properly. If your concern is about the phone's battery, you can check this link for the tips on how to prolong the battery life of the device:

The iOs 5.1 is a huge file that needs to be dowloaded when updating/restoring, your phone hasnt completed the update so its now in recovery mode. Look on the left of itunes, it should say downloads under the store section with a spinning wheel, click that and youll see the update file with a time remaining, wait for that download to finish then try the restore again  and it should work

  • Turn off background refresh only when on cellular

How can I automatically turn off background refresh when switching to cellular (and automatically turn it back on when switching back to wi-fi)?
This would enable me to always use an app on cellular if I want, but not have that app use my data plan when I'm not using the app.  And it would conveniently help with battery life while away from home wi-fi.
(Or where do I suggest this?  I'm new to iPhones)

No, if it bothers you that much, put your phone on silent/vibrate by using the side controls while you're on a call.

  • How to turn off screen without passcode lock.

I just upgraded my wife's iPad 2 from ios 6 to 7.  It used to be when you closed the ipad cover, it would turn off the screen right away.  I would still like it to turn off the screen right away when the cover is closed (so as not to waste batteries) yet NOT require a passcode when opened again (just a slide of the arrow like it used to be).  But right now, if I turn off the lock/unlock feature, and close the lid, the screen will remain full-on until the the auto-lock timer goes into effect - which will be never if I set it to "never".
I don't want to argue about the merits of having a passcode, I concede all your points, so there is no reason to tell me how stupid I am for not wanting to use one - but I would like to be able to have the screen go off without requiring a passcode to turn it back on.  Is this now impossible?  At the least, it should turn off the screen immediately when the cover is closed, and wait to put it in passcode lock mode until the auto-lock timer expires.
Is there any way to do this or is this just a case of Apple imposing this security feature our own good? Thanks.
    -J

Wow.  That was a super-fast answer.  Thanks.  I had seen that optoin and foolishly hadn't tried it because I thought typing my passcode there was just another way to put it into passcode lockdown "immediately".  Well, I said I was stupid. Thanks, it does now work the way it used to and I can still have it require the passcode after a certain timeout period.

I just upgraded to a 32 bit iTouch 5 and was wanting to know how to turn off the screen rotation when I'm playing music. I have the shake to shuffle off (great feature!) but would like to turn off the screen rotation. I just find that to be annoying (to me anyway)...how do I do this on the 5?

Pull up the Control Center and lock the screen rotation. Tap the arrowed-circled padlock on the right side to toggle

  • Turn off screen?

When using an external monitor, is there a way to turn off the laptops screen easily? Basically I want to hook up to my LCD TV via DVI and when connected I want my laptop screen to be off as I just use the TV. Now on some Dell's (yuk) you can press the monitor select button (F7 I think) and it cycles between (laptop screen on, tv off), (laptop screen on, tv on), (laptop screen off, tv on). But pressing F7 on the mac only cycles between extended desktop and mirrored desktop functions. So can this be done?
    thnx

Same question here.... looks to be inpossible...
What you can do is close the lid, and then push an external keybord button.
I tryed to do it because my system becomes slower and slower when attaching a second screen (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=244312).
