Turnkey Installation fails to start JBoss service

I'm installing the Turnkey LiveCycle on a PC running Windows Vista.
The LiveCycle Configuration Manager fails with the error:
Service startup failed for: JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle ES
If I try and manually start the service from Windows, I get this:
"The JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle ES service started than stopped."
Running JBossService.exe from the command prompt does nothing - it just returns to the prompt with no error message.
However, if I go the bin directory and execute 'run.bat', the server starts fine - I can access the configuration pages from my web browser on localhost:8080
It seems to be a problem with the wrapper that makes it into a Windows service.
Any ideas of how I can get fix this?
Thanks!
Rob.

Thanks Jasmin.
I found it was a 64bit Windows issue. The 'JBossService.exe' which is really a copy of 'JavaService' needs to be replaced with a version compiled for 64 bit Windows.
I used the file from "JavaService-2.0.7.64.zip".
Rob.

  • Tip regarding the "systemd[1]: Failed to start Journal Service" error

Just a tip regarding the well-known
systemd[1]: Failed to start Journal Service
error (which I ran into last weekend) to maybe save one or two among you a couple of hours of your time:
The error is described here https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=151012 as well as in several other threads in other language boards / in other forums etc. It is usually (as in the linked thread) 'solved' by reinstalling the system - good old Windows magic, also useful when dealing with systemd.
The Problem with this error is that you do not get into your system. Instead, systemd will print you the mentioned "Failed to start Journal Service" error message a couple of million times. There are also no logs that you could retrieve (when booting from a livesystem) and that would give you any helpful hints, since journal is systemd's logging service, old-style system logs are not kept, and the dmesg log doesn't survive the reboot with default settings.
As pointed out in the above mentioned thread, you will see a few more instructive error messages when adding 'emergency' to the kernel line in the bootloader config.
Now there may be plenty of reasons why the systemd journal service might not work. The most common and most annoying, however, appears to be this one:
In this case you will see that the problem actually lies in
systemd[1]: Cannot open /etc/machine-id: No such file or directory
Now, 'man machine-id' reveals that "the /etc/machine-id file contains the unique machine id of the local system that is set during installation. (...) The machine ID is usually generated from a random source (...)". It is obviously perfectly justified to refuse to boot the system because an absolutely insignificant random number is missing. As far as systemd is concerned anyway.
Usually, it seems, the /etc/machine-id is set by /usr/bin/systemd-machine-id-setup during installation or system upgrade. It is not documented anywhere that this is a rather important step and that you should better check if this was or was not actually done before rebooting. Obviously (but for no apparent reasons) systemd fails to run this (or to run this successfully) sometimes.
Also to be recommended: Always retain (back up) your old kernel and initramfs and edit your bootloader config appropriately to be able to boot with your old kernel again ... just to have one or two options left to get back into the system in case of running into an unpleasant surprise from the side of systemd or other packages.
The solution is, obviously, to create this file /etc/machine-id ... You probably want to do that from a livesystem (if you want to try it from the emergency shell, you would need to remount / (i.e. root) as rw and hope that systemd will not punish you for that) by just running the program that was designed for creating this file manually:  /usr/bin/systemd-machine-id-setup
http://permalink.gmane.org/gmane.comp.s … devel/7528 states that it might also work with merely creating the file 'touch /etc/machine-id'. Though I didn't try that since I had enough fun with systemd for one week and didn't want to break my system again just to see if that works.

    ackalker wrote:Sorry for necrobumping this.
Generating the machine-id in a consistent way is very important when working with KVM and containers, where the machine-id can be set for the VM or container. See `man systemd-machine-id-setup`.
Again, _don't_ just put some random UUID in there, especially not in the systemd package install script, this makes provisioning Arch Linux containers a PITA.
If you thing that the way that arch is handlynbg the machine-id is wrong or can be improved, then file a bug.
    He already did.
Jristz wrote:Anyway, I thing if reinstalling systemd package or if systemd have a command to reinitialize the machine-id file.
Like so many of your posts, I had to read this a half dozen times before it made any sense. I think you're hinting at the utility that ackalker already pointed out in the post you're replying to. And, if you read the install scriptlet, you wouldn't need to think about whether or not reinstalling would be an option. You would know that it isn't.

I use autologin to console (and then to X via bash_profile) and there is no glitch except that I find that getting to desktop takes a little longer these days. Thought it is due to psd. I have no idea when this happened as things have been OK.
Any advice? I suspect that cron's failure is due to this issue though honestly I have no basis to think so. Systemctl shows cronie.service loaded and running. System is up to date.

With all the changes over the past year, I have been wanting to set up a fresh installation to remove any old issues that might not have been properly dealt with over time. This current issue, and the fact that the move to consolidate everything to /usr/bin has happened, tilted the balance.
New installation, login is OK, no repeated messages from systemd-logind, cronie is working.
Why the problems, I have no idea. But the new installation is working well.

  • Failed to start dependent service com.sap.portal.usermapping

    Hi
I am trying to retrieve the User mapping information from my Webdynpro application. I added PORTAL:sap.com/com.sap.portal.usermapping to my service references in the web dynpro application. However, I am getting an error while deploying the application. The error message says
Failed to start dependent service ''com.sap.portal.usermapping'' of application ''local/materialtemplateapp''. Status of dependent component:  STATUS_MISSING. Hint: Is the component deployed correctly on the engine?
I know this is a pretty old problem that many other Web Dynpro developers encountered. I searched a lot on the forums and SDN. There are similar posts but I didn't find solution. I would appreciate any help in fixing this problem.
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Goto http://<servername>:<port>/webdynpro/welcome-->content Adminsitration
Now, expand sap.com and search for the usermapping service. Check what is the status of that particular service. If its in the stopped state then start it and try redeploying your application.

Did I miss something out while migrating to systemd, is it a problem with SLiM or user session maybe ? Do you guys have any ideas where to start ? Thanks.

  • Failed to start TAF service on standby db

Hi, we have a DG configuration based Oracle RAC 10g R2 (2 nodes). After switchover to standby db and start the TAF service, I got the following errors:
PRKP-1030 : Failed to start the service appTAF.
CRS-1007: Failed after successful dependency consideration
CRS-0223: Resource 'ora.standby.appTAF.cs' has placement error.
So basically TAF service won't start. Does anyone see this error before?
    Thanks in advance.

The interesting part is that there is no error in the alert log.

  • Hit by the famous "Failure to start JBOSS Service During Conf Management.  Error[ALC-LCM-999-032]"

    Hi Everyone,
I m really frustrated with this issue. I am trying to install Adobe LiveCycle ES Update 1 trial version JBOSS turnkey option.
    It does not work!!
The installation goes smoothly. But when I launch the config manager, there is no way I get passed the "Error[ALC-LCM-999-032], with a Failed on 'Starting service JBoss For Adobe LiveCycle ES'. Service startup failed for: JBoss for Adobe LivecycelES."
I tried pretty much anything I could find out there as potential solution to the problem. I even tried it in a brand new machine whit pretty much nothing in it: so no possible port conflict (by the way I tried starting jboss directly from the cmd line under Adobe 8.2 dir and it starts fine. i.e: Only the service is busted!!!), tried changing the local policy right and Allow Logon as a service, tried changing the account the service is running under, to no avail.
I tried installing it in machines with Win XP, SP2, JavaSDK1.5_017
Also, tried installing it in machines with Win Server03 SP2 Standard Edition x64. Same JDK. Same thing.
I have tried several machines w/ the same result
I am obviously missing something !
I personally dont care about the windows service. If there is a way to do the config manually, I m more than happy to take that route, as long as I am told what to do. THANKS>
    mb/

I was able to solve this issue. I put this in another thread also as I treid for hours to get this to work and no one had good explanation on forums.
I had same problem on Windows XP (32 Bit). I was installing LiveCycle ES on my desktop to do some solution evaluations. I could start the JBOSS server successfully if I did that by myself, but Adobe Configuration Manager and Java Service were failing.
The issue was the JDK I had assigned to use.
    To resolve:
    1. Make sure you have compliant JDK Version. To get mine to work I had to install JDK Version jdk1.5.0_17.
    2. Switch the JDK that the JBOSS Java Service is pointing to. To do this, you will need to uninstall and reinstall the service.
2.A Go to your installation folder (C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\jboss) and copy the file "InstallJBossService.bat" and rename it "UnInstallJBossService.bat".
2.B Change the command line to execute an uninstall by the following: "%LC8DIR%/jboss/JBossService.exe" -uninstall.
2.C Change your OS Environment Variable for JAVA_HOME to the correct JDK, for example "C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0_17".
    3. Rerun the Adobe Configuration Manager C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\configurationManager\bin\ConfigurationManager.bat
It should complete successfully now IF your issue was the wrong JDK like I had.
Also make sure that the Java Service has Permission to run. Check your control panel -> adimistrative tools -> Service. It will be called "JBoss for Adobe LiveCycle". Make sure it has permission to run as local user is what I did.
There are some other posts about issues similar to this using wrong JDK or 64Bit Windows or other.

    I got below error when i run R3trans -d.

When i manually run the command R3trans -d then return error as below.
    This is R3trans version 6.24 (release 721 - 26.09.13 - 20:13:07 ).

I have confirmed the environment is correctly set by comparing with the current workable DI include replaced the kernel from workable DI.
Also redo the steps for oracle client based on SAPNOTE 819829.
It's looks like oracle client issue. But, i can't find out what is the issue.
    Kindly advise.
    Thank you.

Enterprise Linux is designed for industry standard server hardware. It supports a limited and well known range of peripherals in order to provide commercial support and high reliability.
If you need Linux for any Laptop or Desktop PC, choose a Desktop Linux distribution, like Ubuntu, Fedora, Debian, etc.
Your best option to run Enterprise Linux on non supported hardware is to use hardware virtualization like free Oracle Virtualbox. More information see http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/community/developer-vm/index.html. IMO, there is no compelling reason to try to install Enterprise Linux using dual boot or relying on 3rd party driver software.
