TWAIN Plugin on Epson GT-20000

I have an Epson GT-20000 scaner of which I have working with Photoshop via the TWAIN drivers.  This process of using Photoshop to scan and import the images from the scanner is very nice, but there is one catch.  After each scan I have to exit photoshop before doing another scan.  The reason why is because after I've done the first scan when I try to do another scan Photoshop crashes.  What am I missing?  Is there something wrong with the TWAIN plugin or with the Epson drivers or am I personally forgetting something about refreshing the scanner plugin to do another scan rather than going to the File > Import > Epson GT-20000 for the next scan?

Hello,
Dear Chris,
Thanks for the new CS 5.5 TWAIN plug in solution.
However,
the web page:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404901.html
is designed with a flaw: when one tries to save it as a pdf or simply print it, the left 1/3 of the page vertically is masked by something to create a blank space covering the text and thus
makes it impossible to save it that way, unless one does a series of screen captures.
try it yourself.
Is this intentional?
sincerely,
Mousemouth

  • Photoshop CS5 TWAIN plugin not working in 32-bit mode

I'm having trouble scanning via TWAIN in Photoshop CS5. I'm on an iMac running OSX 10.6.6, My Scanner is an Epson Perfection V350, and after installing the latest driver and an online chat with an Epson rep, they told me to download the latest Photoshop TWAIN plugin from the Adobe site, then run Photoshop in 32-bit mode.
I tried that and the option to scan finally appeared in the import menu and the Epson Scan interface appeared. However, upon trying to preview or scan, the whole lot crashes.
The Epson Scan program works as a standalone app, so the problem clearly lies within Photoshop. However I want to scan in Photoshop, not the clunky standalone app!
Is there anything else to try?

I would say it's more likely that there is a problem with CS5 and/or the new TWAIN plugin.
Epson claim that since their application works standalone, than it's not at fault.
Photoshop CS4 worked fine - I could scan via TWAIN perfectly. I've since removed the CS4 apps. And of course CS5 no longer supports it in the same way. Following Adobe's OWN recommendations of installing the TWAIN plug-in and running PS in 32-bit only led to complete software crashes.
Of course I can scan in Epson Scan on it's own, but after 15 years of happily scanning via TWAIN in Photoshop, I don't see why I should change my way of working to something that would be less convenient.
On another post I read something about having the correct TWAIN plugin - I could only find one for CS5 on the downloads page, so I assume I got the right one.

  • TWAIN Plugin won't work

    Hi all,
I've tried everything for this and it still doesn't work.
    I've downloaded both of these files from this link;
    http://www.adobe.com/support/downloads/detail.jsp?ftpID=4965
I've gone into Applications - Photoshop CS5 - Plug-ins - Import/ Export and pasted TWAIN there manually. I've also double clicked the Optional_Automate.zxp and TWAIN Plugin.zxp files and installed them within the Extension Manager. TWAIN exists within the Extension Manager and has a tick to show it's installed and it is in my plug-ins folder, yet it does not work.
    When I double click TWAIN Photoshop opens and gives me this error;
"Could not complete request because Photoshop does not recongise this type of file"
I'm using an EPSON Stylus SX100 and it has a scanner on it. My drivers for the printer are updated. Photoshop CS5 is at the latest version (12.0.2)
    Why won't TWAIN work?

When you double click the TWAIN.plugin file (actually, bundle), the Finder thinks you want Photoshop to open it as an image document, and of course it's not. That's where the error message is coming from.
It sounds like you have the TWAIN plugin in the proper place for Photoshop. You can watch the Photoshop splash screen during startup to see if it shows a task of "Building TWAIN menu items...", which indicates it has found the plugin.
You will also need to make sure you have installed the appropriate TWAIN driver for your scanner. Note that this may be a separate install from the other software that came with your scanner, which (probably) does not use TWAIN. You can check your installed TWAIN drivers by looking in the folder: /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources (note that this is the top level Library folder, not the one in your user directory), you should see one or more things in there, typically with the name of your scanner and an extension of ".ds".
Finally, as Chris noted, there are very few TWAIN drivers that have been updated for 64-bit; most TWAIN drivers are 32-bit only. If you launch Photoshop in 64-bit mode (which is the default), the File > Import menu will only show TWAIN drivers that are 64-bit, and will omit any that are 32-bit only. If that's the case for your scanner, you can restart Photoshop in 32-bit mode to allow you to scan.
    Hope this helps,
    Paul

  • Photoshop CS5 & TWAIN Plugin

    Hi.
In CS4 there was a Scanner Plugin to scan pictures directly in Photoshop (Photoshop > Plugins > Import/Export > TWAIN.plugin). With Photoshop CS5 is no longer possible. If a scan interface in Photoshop no longer applies?
    Mactheny.
Edit: My scanner EPSON Perfection V750 Pro works fine with MacOSX.

You do need to make sure you have the correct TWAIN plugin for Photoshop CS5. The CS4 TWAIN plugin is not compatible with Photoshop CS5, and vice versa.
If you are still not seeing any TWAIN scanners listed in the Photoshop File > Import menu, check to make sure you have TWAIN data sources installed properly on your Mac. Open the folder /Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources. You should see files in there corresponding to your scanner(s), for example a file named EPSON Perfection 4990.ds for that make and model of scanner. Your scanner software installer should put them there by default.
As always, check your scanner manufacturer's web site for the latest software.

  • After months of good functionality, iMac now doesn't recognize Epson GT 20000

This hit me out of the blue. I've been running Mavericks with an Epson GT 20000 scanner for months with no problems. Today, the scanner cannot transmit scanned images back to the iMac. After scanning, the spinning wheel of death hits in Epson Scan, which apparently means the scanned image can't be sent to the iMac . I have had some success today via Preview or System Preferences, but not consistantly or reliably. Reinstalled scanner driver, checked connections etc. Now iMac can't see the scanner.

Turn the scanner off as well as your Mac then turn the scanner on and restart your Mac.

  • Photoshop CS5.1 Twain Plugin Doesn't Work

The twain plugin (for my Canon scanner) had worked in 32-bit mode in Photoshop CS5.
But the plugin doesn't work with Photoshop CS5.1. I downloaded what seems to be the latest (not sure) twain plugin from Adobe, but no help there, either.
I get this error message. But the scanner is connected (it worked from another application) and plugged in.

Yes. I installed the twain plugin for CS5.1, and opened in 32-bit mode.
Do you have a link for the most recent twain plugin, so I can see if it's the one I downloaded?
    Thanks.

  • TWAIN.plugin OS X doesn't show

    I read the Help http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/405/kb405072.html
    This part I don't understand:
    Quit Photoshop CS4.
Copy the TWAIN plug-in from the /<language>/Goodies/Optional plug-ins/Import-Export folder on your installation media into the /Adobe Photoshop CS4/Plug-ins/Import-Export folder on your hard disk.
Restart Photoshop to enable the plug-in.
    Part 2 is what I don't understand. I have CS4 Collection and don't see any <language>/Goodies/Optional plug-ins/Import-Export
    but I did find this:
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/Photoshop/11.0/WSfd1234e1c4b69f30ea53e41001031ab64-790aa.html
The TWAIN plug-in is optional only for Mac OS (and available for download here).
I downloaded the file and put the TWAIN.plugin (Universal) in the Import-Export folder in CS4 but the the TWAIN.plugin doesn't show in Import.
I also have GraphicConverter and can TWAIN from that.
Prior to CS4 I was using CS and the scanner worked fine.
(ps. GraphicConverter uses the BrotherTWAIN.ds in Library/Image Capture/TWAIN Data Sources... when the BrotherTWAIN.ds is in the Data Sources folder CS4 sees it (Import/BrotherTWAIN) but I get error "No scanner can be found"... assuming plugin is incompatible with CS4)

When you click File>>Import you should see your Brother scanner listed (it may or may not show TWAIN with the scanner name) if the plug-in is properly installed.
If CS4 lists the scanner but says it can't find it, that's an indication that the TWAIN plug-in is working (because it recognizes a TWAIN scanner on the system BUS) but the Brother drivers are not present, out of date or not recognized by PS. Try downloading and installing the latest driver package for your scanner and see if PS recongizes and scans from it.
And Chris is an Adobe employee so he knows more and better about PS scanning than I do, but I haven't had single PS crash in CS4 with Snow Leopard using either of two TWAIN scanners (one HP and the other Canon).

  • Cannot scan using CS5, Optional TWAIN plugin does nothing

I'm trying to figure out how to scan using CS5 (Master Collection, 32-bit for 32-bit Windows Vista). I found references to an optional plugin pack for Photosop, which supposedly has a TWAIN plugin that works for 32-bit Windows Vista. So, I downloaded it. But, it seems like such a hack pack. There nothing to launch (run) for an automatic install. There's just a duplicate set of bewildering instructions for "installing" each plugin.
The instructions included in the plugin pack has a section that says "TWAIN (Mac only)" and only lists instructions for a Mac. Near the top of the document is the entire list of plugins. A footnote below the list indicates that the plugins intended only for the Mac are marked with an asterisk. The TWAIN plugin is in the list, but not marked. The online documentation confirms that the TWAIN plugin in this pack works for 32-bit Windows. But, it does not reveal how to install or use it.
Before you ask, yes, I downloaded the right version. Thinking the two version might have been switched, I also downloaded the Mac version. But, I couldn't even open it.
Anyway, I found multiple blogs instructing to add the Twain_32.8BA file to the folder "%ProgramFiles%\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Plug-ins\Import-Export", launch Photoshop, then select File and Import. I'm not sure what was supposed to show up there, but nothing was added.
I know the scanner works, the scanner driver works, and the TWAIN driver works, since I can still use them with the much cheaper Serif software.
    Any ideas?

I finally resolved most of the issue. Long story short, the scanner wasn't connected. What an idiot! The long story appears below if you are interested.
I still cannot scan from the scanner. But, I'm confident it's not a Photoshop or TWAIN plugin issue. The only remaining issue with an Adobe product is the very sketchy instructions (or lack thereof) and "install" procedures involved with Adobe's "hack-pack".
Thanks to all who took time to respond.
    The Long Story
After posting my question, I continued double-checking everything, including the Serif software, which now could not find the scanner.
The problem originated when I borrowed the USB cable from the scanner (a Lexmark X6100 series all-in-one). When I returned the cable to an impossible to see set of connections on the rear, it fit perfectly in the phone line-out jack.
Oblivious to the cable problem, I attempted to uninstall the Lexmark driver software. This caused a nightmare of registry changes, security issues, and reboots. The driver software had been tweaked to work with Windows Vista. But, nobody thought to update the uninstaller. In the midst of the computer problems, my telephone service goes out. Go figure.
I eventually stumbled upon a resolve to the telephone issue by disconnecting the phone system from the Lexmark. At this point I begin to get a little suspicious of the Lexmark being a cause for both problems. I checked the phone cable to the Lexmark. But, it seems fine. I reconnect it on both ends. Still, it causes a telephone issue. At a loss for that problem and having a temporary resolve for now, I continue working on the driver issue.
With the Lexmark software finally removed from my computer, I begin installing a slightly updated version, praying I don't have to ever uninstall it. But, it won't install, reporting the Lexmark has to be on and connected. Rechecking the USB connection, I can feel that the USB cable is a little loose. Then, it dawns on me that it could be plugged into the phone line-out. Feeling around for another jack, I find one, plug in the USB, get a much more appropriate fit, and voila!. The new device driver installs.
I launch the Serif software. And, now it's able to find the Lexmark. I launch Photoshop, select File and Import, and there appears a new item, "Lexmark X6100 series ...". Now, if I could only get it to actually work.

  • TWAIN Plugin

I'm trying to use photoshop CS 5 or 5.5 to scan an image, but I'm discovering that apparently the TWAIN Plugin doesn't work.  I've downloaded the latest one on Adobe's site which is listed as being for CS 5 and I've tried installing it and/or placing the Plugin in the plugins > import/export folder just as the instructions on Adobe's site said but when I go to "file > import" there is no twain option at all.  I've tried using Photoshop CS5 and CS 5.5 in both 32 and 64 bit modes.  I've also tried restarting the computer and starting Photoshop again in both 32 and 64 bit mode, but with no success.  What did Adobe not include in the instructions that I'm missing?  Is there any possible way to even get TWAIN working in Photoshop as it's suppose to?

In Photoshop CS 5.5 under Photoshop -> Help -> System info it does show this in the installed plugin list:
    Twain Acquire 12.0.2x20101112 [20101112.r.1198 2010/11/12:02:00:00 cutoff; r branch]  1992-20102010 Adobe Systems Incorporated - from the file “TWAIN.plugin”
At the end of that big list of installed plugins it also shows this: "Installed TWAIN devices: NONE"
In Photoshop CS 5 under Photoshop -> Help -> System info it does show this in the installed plugin list:
    Twain Acquire 12.0.2x20101112 [20101112.r.1198 2010/11/12:02:00:00 cutoff; r branch]  1992-20102010 Adobe Systems Incorporated - from the file “TWAIN.plugin”

  • I upgraded PSE12 to PSE13 on my W7 64bit PC. I cannot now use my Twain Plugin for scanning.

I have discovered from the forum there is no 64 bit Twain Plugin, so I cannot scan using my Canon PIXMA PG6350 Printer/Scanner which I had been using in PSE12.
    If I uninstall PSE13 , how can I reinstall as a 32 bit version.
    Ant help would be appreciated.

    Hi,
On a 64-bit setup, only 64-bit version of PSE13 would install.
    Thanks

  • Mac Photoshop cs2 twain plugin/drivers

This is driving me freaking nuts.  I recently did an HDD swap for a client on a dead drive for an intel based iMac (which is always fun tearing apart).
Anywho, I replaced the exact version of photoshop on his machine, 9.0 (cs2), and his OS is 10.6.8 (snow leopard).
He's used to be able to take his scanner (epson perfection 610) and directly import a scan into photoshop by opening photo cs2, selecting file, then import, then it would give his scanner model in the list (I'm assuming using the twain driver).  Now, we haven't changed any software, or any versions, same OS version, same scanner, same photoshop version.
We installed CS2, then loaded the most up to date drivers for the scanner (twain driver included in the pack), but whenever we boot up cs2, import does not contain any scanner/twain options.
    Where to go from here??

Tying up Photoshop to scan is the height of inefficiency.  But if the man insists, please do a forum search on the keywords TWAIN scan vuescan.  This issue has been discussed ad nauseam here.

  • Unable to install twain driver for Epson scanner -- Leopard

I finally got the printer driver working for my Epson CX6600.
Downloaded the correct driver from the Epson website and all is fine.
But now my scanner won't work.
    The CX6600 is an all-in-one.
The Twain Scanner Driver was paired up in the same download.
However, after downloading the installer file I was unable to install it.
The cursor just spins and spins -- and I then get a repeated warning window asking if I want to open this software downloaded from the Internet.
I have to do a Force Quit to get out of the installer app.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,

where you able to resolve this problem? I also have this problem. Can scan manually.

  • [SOLVED] iscan Plugin for EPSON WorkForce 630?

    Hello again Arch Forums!
I'm trying to set up my scanner with sane and iscan using the Arch Wiki page.
Upon installing iscan (required for EPSON hardware) I noticed there is no appropriate plugin for my all-in-one scanner, the EPSON WorkForce 630, in the AUR.
Which driver do I install now?
Last edited by SwitchDhole (2015-02-20 15:42:05)

I think it may be that your scanner would be included in the AUR package iscan (local) or iscan-plugin-network.
If you look on the Epson site for the drivers corresponding to the iscan and iscan-network-plugin packages it seems that the Workforce 630 is among the scanners supported.
