Two computers on CS5

I am sure this has been asked before, but the search is not working for me today. I know you can have CS5 on two computers with one license key, like a work desktop and a home laptop. My boss only edits video, and I only work on still images. Can he be working on his computer editing video while I am doing stills on mine, using the same key? Thanks.

It is a single use license as far as I know.
Just to clarify, I said single USER.  This appears to be the wording in the EULA that's applicable:
function(){return A.apply(null,[this].concat($A(arguments)))}
2.5 Portable or Home Computer Use.  Subject to the important restrictions set forth in Section 2.6, the primary user of the Computer on which the Software is installed under Section 2.2 ("Primary User") may install a second copy of the Software for his or her exclusive use on either a portable Computer or a Computer located at his or her home, provided that the Sofwtare on the portable or home Computer is not used at the same time as the Software on the primary Computer.

I have Adobe Photoshop CS5 installed in two computers. The hard drive of my home computer crashed and I had no time to deactivate the software. The hard drive needed to be formatted. How can I activate the software CS5 again ? Thank you for an answer.

If it's the same computer, same CPU and same HD, no de-activation or re-activation should be necessary.
Install from scratch and apply all updates manually.
Please do a forum search.  I and others have repeatedly answered the question about failed updates of CS5 a whole bunch of times recently.
Bottom line:  the Adobe auto updater is utterly useless in CS5 and prior versions.  You need to download the updates and apply them manually yourself.
I and others have even supplied the links for Mac and Win, which you haven't even bothered to specify.

  • Adobe thinks I've already activated CS5 on two computers

So, I have the student version of CS5. I installed it on my PC running Windows XP Professional in March and it ran perfectly fine until July, when I got my first notice that it had "already been activated on two computers" and that I should deactivate one of those before trying to activate it again.
First off, I have no idea why it thinks I have installed CS5 on any other computers. I only have this one machine and I haven't done any reformatting or altering of my system to make it think there's more than one computer floating around here. So, I went on Adobe live chat to see about solving the issue, and with minimal real advice, they just altered my license so that I could reactivate and be on my way. Great.
However not a week later, it happened again. July 15, July 21, and then Aug 3. Same issue every time. I did my best to talk with the folks at Adobe's live chat, but none of them are terribly useful. They simply told me over and over that I had installed it on two other computers even though I only have one and that I need to deactivate one to activate on this one. Nobody gave me any insight as to why Adobe thinks I have 3 computers.
I thought that maybe because it was happening almost weekly that it could be a Windows update causing the issue, but my computer has updated since March and that didn't seem to do anything then. Regardless, I deactivated Automatic Updates for the time being, but I still got the activation notice even after getting the issue "resolved" in chat.
They fixed the issue the first 3 times, but the 4th time they passed me around from agent to agent until finally they said only the senior support staff could help me and that they would email me to further the conversation. This never happened.
Does anybody know what I could do on my end to resolve why I appear to have 3 computers, 2 of which that seem to be happily using CS5, while the 3rd is the only one I seem to be able to use and it cannot?
I paid for this program, it's not working properly, and I'm being treated like I'm trying to steal. Not cool.

Someone else may have stolen your serial number. Unfortunately there's nothing anyone here can do.
You're going to have call Adobe to straighten this out. Please do so and let us know how you make out.
If there's a problem, get a case number and take down names.

  • Split CS5.5 on two computers ?

    Hello,
I would like to know if I can buy a CS5.5 standard pack and split the install on two computers (used by two differents users) :
    - 1st computer : Indesign, Photoshop, Illustrator
    - 2nd computer : Acrobat pro
    Thanks for the answer.

[ moved to the installation forum ]
No you cannot. A retail license for CS5.5 allows it to be installed on up to two computers but only if you (as the licensee*) are the person using both copies. This for example allows CS5.5 to be used on a desktop computer and a laptop, but it does not allow one license to be shared between two people.
*CS retail licenses are personal-issue even if paid for by a corporation.

  • If I upgrade Cs5 to CS6 can I install it on two computers like my CS5 is?

I purchased CS5 before CS6 came out and the version I have (suite? individual?  I can't tell which it is from the website or from the box my CD came in) let me install it on two computers.  I would like to upgrade to CS6 but would like to be able to upgrade both versions.  I took online courses for CS5 and there are now courses for CS6 available.  I can't find my answer anywhere after searching for a couple of hours.  I can purchase the upgrade but there is nothing to say if I can upgrade both the computers.  Does the upgrade allow for upgrading two computers?

    Hi Margaret,
According to EULA you can install it on 2 machines, provided you are not using them simultaneously.

I purchased an update for my lightroom on my main computer.  I am traveling this week and realized it didn't update on my laptop.  I need my laptop updated and I was under the impression that I could download on two computers, but I am having issues downloading on my laptop.

yes, you can install and activate on up to two computers with a single user license.

  • Once you purchase the sortware, can you download it on two computers?

Once you purchase the sortware, can you download and use it on two computers?

You can have it "Active"/usuable on 2 computers at a time, but can download to multiple computers.
Example Scenario in my actual life, you have a Windows Laptop and an iMac that you have Photoshop CC on (which was more difficult prior to Creative Cloud by the way), but you know you are going to visit your girlfriend out of state for a week.
You can deactivate Photoshop on your iMac while you're away without out uninstalling it.
Once you'e at her place you can download and activate Photoshop CC and you can even import you custom settings, Work Area and shortcuts all from the cloud.  Now you can work seemlessly
Another example, you're office won't pop for the latest version of Photoshop and still has you running CS5.5
You have your own copy of Photoshop CC but don't want to just "give" them your license or key since their too cheap to get one for you for your work, but you still need those features to be at your best.
You can deactivate your license on your desktop or laptop in the morning when you are heading to the office, activate on your work computer, and deactivate before you clock out and go home.
As J pointed out, you can have it active on 2 machines at once, but installed on any machine you plan to work on at some point. Take advantage of it!

  • CS6 + Creative Cloud + two computers = interminable mess

I am so fed up with Adobe right now. Every supposed 'solution' leads to another dead end. I contacted a guy on chat earlier and his advice sounded good at the time ("You have to sign up your laptop to Creative Cloud, then download and install") except I can't find any way of doing what he said. How do you 'sign up your laptop to Creative Cloud'?
Look. I upgraded from CS3 to CS6. I did so using the Creative Cloud join monthly for a year option. It worked - for my desktop computer. Today, for almost six hours, I've been trying to get it to work on both my desktop and laptop, as CS3 did, as I'm told the license for CS6 allows. In fact, I can find plenty of confirmations on the site that I can use the software on two computers (allowing for deactivation/activation) but I can't find any sensible instructions on how to go about it.
And in the process of trying to follow the arcane suggestions and lack of suggestions, I find that all the CS6 components on my desktop computer have now changed their minds - they believe they are trial versions. Even though I've paid, and have the receipt. So I found instructions for how you're supposed to overcome that problem, downloaded the supposedly patched version of AAM, and tried to follow the next steps, which include deactivating a component by choosing 'Deactivate' under the 'Help' menu. Guess what? You can't access the Deactivate instruction under the help menu; it's greyed out. Another dead end.
I HAVE WORK TO DO! THE WORK I HAVE TO DO IS SUPPOSED TO BE PAYING FOR MY UPGRADE TO CS6! YOU ARE STUFFING ME AROUND AND COSTING ME MONEY, ADOBE! YES, I MEAN TO SHOUT! I AM VERY PISSED OFF!
Does anyone have any idea what I should do from here? Is Quark Express still available?

The trial problem remains insoluble. I've tried going through the steps at http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/trial--1-launch.html without success.
Firstly, that page says "You also have Creative Suite 5 (CS5) products installed on the same computer." As far as I know I have never had any product from CS5. I've had CS3 and I've upgraded to CS6. That's all.
Ther page also says "Acrobat displays the error, "Configuration Error 130:10." Not that I can see. There's no error message when azi try to use Acrobat.
Anyway, I try to do what the page tells me to. I download the patched version of AAM, install it, then open a CS6 component. I've tried each of InDesign, Photoshop and Acrobat. According to the instructions, once I've opened them, I should choose 'Deactivate' from the 'Help' menu. In each case 'Deactivate' is greyed out, so I can't choose it. So I'm at Step 4 and can't go any further.

  • Can CS 5 Creative Suite run on more than two computers?

I have CS 5 Creative Suite that I run on my desktop and laptop. I know I can uninstall from one of them and install the suite on another. Ultimately I want Photoshop CS5 to run on three computers because my daughter is old enough now to help with editing.  What are my options? Is there a license I have to buy to run the whole suite on a 3rd computer? Would it be cheaper to buy Photoshop CS5 just for her laptop?
    Thanks,
    Art

There is no option to simply add a third computer to a standard CS retail license.
Your license is really a license for one person with two computers that are used by a single person and not simultaneously. Even if you had only one computer, you would be violating the EULA (End User License Agreement) by installing it on your daughters computer and letting her run that software.
In your specific case, it would probably be best to get your daughter a copy of Photoshop by itself. And you might want to investigate if your daughter might qualify for a highly-discounted student or educational version of Photoshop if she qualifies as a student (see Adobe's website for further information).
Also, CS5 is not current. You can only buy the CS5.5 Creative Suite products now from Adobe.

  • Can two computers use the same backup??

I restored a seperate Macbook pro from the Time machine backup of MY Macbook. So I have two computers operating from the same backup. Is that recommended??

Yes, it should do. Once you change the name of the computer make sure you reset TM
    See A4 here. http://pondini.org/TM/Troubleshooting.html
When you start the backup it will create a new sparsebundle.. (like a virtual disk that holds the backup on network drives) and you will be able to check that it is correct because it should be a new full backup.
Then you can do a full backup of one of the machines.. the other machine can continue to use the original backup.

  • Can I have the same library on two computers?

I would like to run iTunes off two computers..work and home with my same library. Can I? How?
    Thank you much

I have seen the same info in a few different threads, but I'm still confused. My daughter has ITunes on an older computer, and wants to back up all the info for a new computer. I have ITunes on my computer, and tried to save her files on a flash drive (1 GB) and here's what happened: When I save either or both the .xml or .itl files, and tried to import them to my itunes, I got folders but no songs. When I saved the ITunes Music folder, that gave me the songs, but its more than 1 GB, so I guess I need more flash drives. [However, I was able to import a song that had been downloaded from a CD onto my daughter's computer while the drive was in place on my computer, but when the drive was gone, so was the song......is that always the case?] Do I need to copy the entire ITunes folder (including the .xml, .itl and Music) to the flash drive, and then copy that to the hard drive on the new computer? Help!

  • Computer with CS6 Died on one of two computers. I need to install and activate CS6 Web Premium on another computer. How can I activate it on new computer?

I have Adobe Creative Suite CS6 installed on two computers. One of the two computers experienced a catastrophic failure. The hard drive is damaged and the computer will not boot. So now I only have access to CS6 on one computer.  I would like to install CS6 on a new computer so that I have two working computers each with an installation of CS6. How do I do this and activate both installations? I tried calling Adobe but the only number I have to troubleshoot problems is for Creative Cloud problems only. Any way to contact a live person at Adobe would be appreciated. Any other solutions would also be appreciated..
    Thank you.

You can contact Adobe support thru chat and they can deal with inaccessible activations to deactivate them.

  • I have an Iphone 4S and two computers, can I sync with both computers? When I click on manual manage it says I have to delete songs from phone

I have two computers, my desktop has much more music on it, but my laptop is 10 times faster.  I originally sync'd my iphone 4s with the desktop to try and keep the hard drive on the laptop from bogging down.  My desktop is on it's way out and I'm trying to sync with the laptop but itunes won't let me.  When I go into my iphone on the computer I check off to manual manage music and when I hit apply it tells me that the iphone can only be sync'd to one computer and requires the contents of the phone being deleted.  Is there anyway around this or am I going to have to delete everything and go through my laptop?
