Two jsp forms - same action class

Hi, I'm new to Struts/JSP so please help:
1. I have 2 JSP forms, can they share the same action class?
In JSP form 1, I've specified the form action class
<html:form action="groups" >
In JSP form 2, it's
<html:form action="groupusers">
In my Struts-Config.xml, I've specified for form1
<form-bean name="GroupForm" type="org.apache.struts.validator.DynaValidatorForm">
<action path="/groups" type="...groups.action.GroupsAction" name="GroupForm" scope="request" validate="false" parameter="methodToCall" input="/groupsframe.jsp">
and for form2
<form-bean name="GroupUsersForm" type="org.apache.struts.validator.DynaValidatorForm">
<action path="/groupusers" type="...groups.action.GroupsAction" name="GroupUsersForm" scope="request" validate="false" parameter="methodToCall" input="/addGroupUsers.jsp">
Form 1 was invoked as a child window and "getGroup" action in GroupsAction class is called.
When a button on Form 1 is clicked, I've used javascript to invoke Form2 as a child window and call "getGroupUsers" action in GroupsAction class. Form 2 is displayed, but the "getGroupUsers" action in GroupsAction class was never called.
Is it possible to have 2 JSP forms sharing the same action class? If so, what am I doing wrong here?
thanks in advance for your help.

  • Values from JSP to Struts Action Class

    Dear All,
    Am working on a small struts project, i want to get values from JSP in the Action class, i tried with sending variables using request through URL, it works fine, any other way is there to send the values from JSP to action class. Am not having any input fields in the JSP.I have links.
    Thanks,
    vyrav.

    I have a dispatch action for that am calling the action like this viewfiles.do?parameter=edit, and i have to send a variable ID from the same page, so am doing like this through java script, viewfiles.do?parameter=edit&id=10. Am able to get the id in the dispatch action edit, but when i start tomcat with security manager its not calling the action itself and its giving accesscontrol exception, but when i directly type viewfiles.do in URL its calling the action.
    I dont know wats the problem, tomcat security manager not allowing this. Please help me.
    Thanks,
    vyrav.

  • MSS - PCR - launch JSP form from action box

    We have a PCR (leaver request) which is workflowed to an administrator to carry out the HR action. One of the options in the Action Box is to view the form - we're using JSP forms for this (we're using NW04 SP11). I've configured the ISR according to the SAP notes to be able to launch the JSP form for the administrator to view the form.
    When we click the Display Form option the portal is launched as expected, the user logs on, but then a blank screen is displayed - ie not the form...
    The URL that is generated is http://<portalserver>:<port>/irj/portal/<portalcomponent>?SCENARIO=ZCLR&REQUEST_NO=000500000165&MODE=DISPLAY&IFV=P
    Has anyone set this up successfully and can offer any advice?
    Regards
    Ross

    Hi Suresh,
    Thanks for your suggestion, but it still isn't working - the portal is launched with this url but just stops at the user's start page in the portal. We're on 46C. Any other suggestions? Does the portal user (for the administrator) need anything to be able to view the jsp form?
    http://sapportal:50000/irj/portal/zhcm.leaverrequest.default?SCENARIO=ZCLR&REQUEST_NO=000500000168&MODE=DISPLAY&IFV=P
    Cheers

  • How to use a SAME form between two JSP ?

    Hi,
    I have a JSP called jsp1 that use a form called form1.
    I use the next line in jsp1 to tell this :
    <jsp:useBean id="form1" class="Form" scope="request"/>
    In struts-config :
    <form-beans>
    <form-bean name="form1" type="Form"/>
    </form-beans>
    <action path="/jsp" type="Action" name="Form" scope="request">
    <forward name="success" path="jsp2.jsp"/>
    </action>
    In the action linked to this form, I populate my form.
    Next, I would like, in the second JSP jsp2, to USE THE SAME FORM form1, so that I can use some datas I have inserted in it after I have called the action of jsp1.
    I hope you will understand my BAD english :)
    HELP ME PLEASE, it is very urgent !

    Maybe it is not very clear... I am going to explain it in another way :
    I have one form that I use in JSP (init.jsp) thanks to this line :
    <jsp:useBean id=3D"Form" class=3D"com.form.MyForm" scope=3D"request"/>
    In my struts-config.xml :
    <action path=3D"/fastsearch"
         type=3D"com.action.MyAction"
         name=3D"Form"
         scope=3D"request">
         <forward name=3D"success" path=3D"success.jsp"/>
    </action>
    Thanks to MyAction, I populate the fields of my form. I can access to =
    this fields in success.jsp.
    Here the perform method of MyAction :=20
    public ActionForward perform(ActionMapping mapping,
                        ActionForm form,
                             HttpServletRequest req,
                             HttpServletResponse res) {
         (MyForm)form.populate();=09
         req.setAttribute("TempForm", ((MyForm)form));
         return mapping.findForward("success");
    Now, I would like that when I click on a link in success.jsp to go to =
    another JSP page (last.jsp), I can access to my populated form !=20
    At this moment, I have=20
    <jsp:useBean id=3D"TempForm" class=3D"com.form.MyForm" =
    scope=3D"request"/> at the beginning of last.jsp, but it does not =
    work...
    I hope you understand what I want to say ;)

  • Is it possible to use two diff forms in same jsp/jsf page?

    Hi all,
    My requirement is to submit the form based on selection of radio button.
    since half part needs to be jsp based which is not using any tags etc.
    But i am trying to use some jsf based component which requires to be inside <f:view><h:form> of
    <%@ taglib prefix="f" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" %>
    <%@ taglib prefix="h" uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" %>
    i.e. some <c:comboBox>
    </h:form> </f:view>
    Now earlier i was submitting the form as
    <form action="/techstacks-v2_1/reportAction.do" method="post" name=doSearch id='doSearch'>
    But now i found, in order to use combo box component which is entirely jsf based i need to use <f:view><h:form> which is kind of taking over the previous form submission mechiansm.
    I am trying to keep them separate as two differnt forms.
    one entirely jsp based and other as jsf based.
    Now my question is can i use such way of doing so or is there any better way of implementing so.
    My friend suggested that i can pass the value of jsf based form in hidden form to a input box of form to be submitted finally instead of submitteing two diff forms.
    but in that case also i ahev to use two forms in a single jsp/jsf page.
    suggest me something which can really work out.
    thanks
    vijendra

    You can use as many forms as you want as long as you don't nest forms. The HTML spec probibits that.

  • Passing values from a JSP to Action class

    Hi,
    I have one JSP in this I have two select boxes.
    The first select box is populated with default values.
    From the first select box I am selecting the value and moving to the other select box using java script.
    Now the value in the second select box has to be submitted alongwith some other values which I am getting.
    These values are to be submitted to a Action class and further to the form bean using struts.
    In the form tag in JSP I am calling the struts action class.
    The issue here is,I am able to get other values except the values in the second select box.
    I am using simple JSP page to get form values and submitting.
    I am not using struts tlds because of project constraints.
    Please advise on how to pass these values.
    Regards,
    Ram

    If the value from the select box isn't submitted, then it's not inside the form. Check the HTML output of your JSP to debug this problem.

  • How to pass arraylist of object from action class to jsp and display in jsp

    I need to do the following using struts
    I have input jsp, action class and action form associated to that. In the action class I will generate the sql based on the input from jsp page/action form, create a result set. The result set is stored as java objects in a ArrayList object.
    Now I need to pass the arraylist object to another jsp to display. Can I put the ArrayList object in the request object and pass to the success page defined for the action? If this approach is not apprpriate, please let me know correct approach.
    if this method is okay, how can I access the objects from arraylist in jsp and display their property in jsp. This java object is a java bean ( getter and setter methods on it).
    ( need jsp code)
    Can I do like this:
    <% ArrayList objList = (ArrayList)request.getattribute("lookupdata"): %> in jsp
    (***I have done request.setattribute("lookupdata", arraylistobj); in action class. ***)
    Assuming the java object has two properties, can I do the following
    <% for (iint i=0. i<objList.size;I++){ %>
    <td> what should i do here to get the first property of the object </td>
    <td> what should i do here to get the first property of the object </td>
    <% }
    %>
    if this approach is not proper, how can I pass the list of objects and parse in jsp?
    I am not sure what will be the name of the object. I can find out how many are there but i am not sure I can find out the name
    thanks a lot

    Basically your form beans are the place holders or containers for your jsp attributes. It has to be mapped in such a way that when the form is submitted the user entered values get populated on to your form bean.
    For Eg:
    JSP
    <html:form action="accountSearchResults.do">
    <html:text property="myName" size="15"/>
    //USE ONLY STRUTS TAGS IN JSP's. U CAN REFER TO
    //http://struts.apache.org/1.x/struts-taglib/tlddoc/index.html
    //THE PROPERTY NAME "myName" SHOULD BE DEFINED IN
    //YOUR FORMBEAN WITH getMyName AND setMyName
    //METHODS DEFINED
    </html:form>
    struts-config.xml
    <form-beans>
         <form-bean name="addEditAccount" type="org.apache.struts.validator.LazyValidatorForm">
              <form-property name="myName" type="java.lang.String">
              </form-property>

  • Values from a jsp page are null in an Action class

    hi, i am working on an application...i have a jsp page with several inputs (type=text) and when a submit the form to to my action class all values received are null.
    Here is a part of code:
    the jsp file: letter.jsp
    <form target="_self" action="/Test/editLetter.do" name="letterTF">
    <table>
    <tbody>
    <tr>
    <th>
    No of objects
    </th>
    <th>
    Weight
    </th>
    <th>
    Description
    </th>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <td>
    Package
    <input name="package" id="package" type="checkbox">
    </td>
    <td>
    <input name="package_No" type="text" value="<%=currentBean.getPackageNo() %>"> <%-- from session...have to edit some date from a data base--%>
    </td>
    <td>
    <input name="package_weight" type="text" value="<%=currentBean.geWeight()%>">
    </td>
    <td>
    <input name="description" type="text" value="<%=currentBean.Description()%>"
    </td></tr>
    <tr>
    ..................................................... <%-- It's a big form --%>
    </tr>
    <tr>
    <input type="submit" name="send" value="Send">
    </tr>
    </tbody>
    </table>
    </form>
    struts-config.xml:
    <form-bean

    input="/letter.jsp"

    private String package_No;
    private String package_weight;
    public void setPackage(String package){
    this.package = package
    public String getPackage(){

    The action class:
    public class LetterAction extends Action{

    ActionMapping mapping,
    ActionForm form,

    HttpServletResponse response)

    System.out.println("Weight: "+weight);//it will print Weight: null
    System.out.println("Description "+description) //it will print Description: null
    As I observed its not making the set methods from LetterForm.java
    I am dealing with this bug for a couple of days an i didn't managed to break it. If anyone has an idea or a solution would he be so kind to share it with me
    Thanks in advance,
    David

    Basically your form beans are the place holders or containers for your jsp attributes. It has to be mapped in such a way that when the form is submitted the user entered values get populated on to your form bean.
    For Eg:
    JSP
    <html:form action="accountSearchResults.do">
    <html:text property="myName" size="15"/>
    //USE ONLY STRUTS TAGS IN JSP's. U CAN REFER TO
    //http://struts.apache.org/1.x/struts-taglib/tlddoc/index.html
    //THE PROPERTY NAME "myName" SHOULD BE DEFINED IN
    //YOUR FORMBEAN WITH getMyName AND setMyName
    //METHODS DEFINED
    </html:form>
    struts-config.xml
    <form-beans>
         <form-bean name="addEditAccount" type="org.apache.struts.validator.LazyValidatorForm">
              <form-property name="myName" type="java.lang.String">
              </form-property>
         </form-bean>
    </form-beans>
    <action-mappings>
         <action path="/accountSearchResults" type="com.zzz.AccountSearchResultAction" name="addEditAccount" scope="request">
              <forward name="success" path="NextPage.jsp">
              </forward>
         </action>
    </action-mappings>

  • Unable to send integer value from action class to jsp

    Hi,
    i have scenario like ,
    In my action class ,,
    DemoAction.java

    String sample = ""+samplevar
    request.setAttribute("sampleVar",sample );
    Demo.jsp
    <% int demovar = Integer.parseInt(request.getAttribute("sampleVar")) ; %>

    String sample = ""+samplevar// You should better stick with a number object type:
    Integer sample = new Integer(samplevar );
    // or leave conversion to autoboxing (java 1.5+)
    Integer sample = samplevar ;request.setAttribute("sampleVar",10) is same as request.setAttribute("sampleVar",new Integer(10)) ;
    No explicit AotoBoxing is required as the second argumet is of java.lang.Object type. It will automatically autobox with java.lang.Integer.

    request.setAttribute("sampleVar",sample );// you must put that in the response, not in the request...
    response.setAttribute("sampleVar",sample );This is not right. You have to set the attribute in request object as you are getting the attribute back in jsp from the request object.

    Hi!! thanks for answering the question,,
    i have tried doing as u said , but still m getting the following error:
    On Compilation of JSP.
    cannot resolve symbol
    symbol : method parseInt (java.lang.Object)
    location: class java.lang.Integer
    int numberofcols = Integer.parseInt(request.getAttribute("noOfCols"));
    kindly help.request.getAttribute("noOfCols") gives you an object of java.lang.Object. Integer.parseInt(String str) requires a string.
    do this....
    int numberofcols = Integer.parseInt(request.getAttribute("noOfCols").toString());

  • Struts - Data pass from Action class to JSP

    hello ,
    I am new to struts and have a strange question in my mind .
    How do we pass business logic data from action class to JSP.Do we use session object or any other best way to be used to pass data.
    Example scenario:
    Once the user logins into application by passing userid and password ,we need to display his open queries (from database table) on jsp.
    Components used :
    Login.jsp
    LoginForm(getter and setter methods of userid & password)
    LoginAction(get database connection,perform query to fetch user's open queries form the database)
    OpenQueries.jsp(to display Open queries on a tabular format)
    In LoginAction - We fetched user's open Queries from the database and stored them in collection object .
    My question is : what is the best way to pass Collection object from LoginAction to OpenQueries.jsp ?
    Thanks in advance...

    You can use plain javabeans to transfer the data. Check out the jsp:usebean tag. If you don't know how to do, check out the Java EE tutorial: http://java.sun.com/javaee/5/docs/tutorial/doc/ Using javabeans in JSP pages starts halfway chapter 4.
