Two routers WRT54Gv4 & WRT54GS --wrong ones?
I have two routers that I purchased new. The WRT54G v4 and the WRT54GS that I thought would resolve my problem. Apparently not! I have a Dell Windows XP Pro and a Sony Vaio laptop WinXP Pro that I want to have have connected at the same time sharing a Verizon DSL line. I am unable to accomplish this. Can anyone help? Do I have the wrong products to accomplish this?
You only need one router unless you want to use the second one as an access point. One router will take care of sharing the internet for many PC's and/or laptops.

I accidently replaced a file with another. Can I undo my action?
I had two files named graphics. One was on my desktop and another was within another file called solitarie. I move the one on my desktop (wrong file) into the solitarie file and was asked if I wanted to replace the graphics file in the solitarie folder (the correct one). I said yes accidently and then remembered that I had made a mistake. If I use undo, it only move the wrong file back to the desktop. I originally had two libraries in iPhoto, my wife and I share two iMacs at different locations but we wanted to share the photos and it was set up this way Apple Geniuses at the store I have no idea why. Anyway, I updated to OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.3 with the new 'photos' app. It asked me to choose one of the libraries and evidently I assume I must have chosen the wrong one. It only imported 322 random photos, not the 10,000+ we had in iPhoto. I can no longer find these photos or the other library anywhere, it appears to have been deleted. I have tried 'alt' clicking the icon which used to open a 'choose library' box, but this no longer works in photos or iPhoto. I have no idea where it has gone and it contains precious memories over the years including the birth of our children. Can someone please help???

Since you are sharing it between two Macs, is the library on an external drive or a NAS, or another remotely mounted volume?
If the library is not on a directly connected disk, formatted MacOS Extended, move the original iPhoto Library to a directly connected, correctly disk.
And the try first the iPhoto Library First Aid Tools on that library. Repair the permissions, and repair the database in iPhoto. Then try to migrate again to Photos.
To repair hold down the alt/option and the command key simultaneously while double clicking the iPhoto Library to launch the iPhoto Library First Aid tools. Hold down both keys firmly and long enough, until the First Aid panel will appear.
The select "Repair Permissions". And then repeat, but select "Repair Database"
But make a current backup of your iPhoto Library before you try this. -

The name of this technology - WDS.
HP Laser JET 1536 dnf MFP connect to one of this routers (copper).
Second device (my NETBOOK) connect to second router (WiFi).
I have good communication between NETBOOK and HP Laser JET 1536 dnf MFP via WiFI-bridge.
In usual case NETBOOK can find (and can Ping) network printer and make a print some files.
But my Ipad or Iphone can't find HP Laser JET 1536 dnf MFP (using Eprint). Ipad and iphone connect
to router across WiFi.

Can I run two routers off one cable modem, one a hardwired Windows network and the other an Airport Extreme networking a Powerbook G4 and wireless printer?
No you cannot - unless you pay your cable internet service provider for two public IP addresses.
What I would suggest if you already have the base station but have not yet purchased the router:
- connect the cable modem to the Base Station's WAN port
- buy a 4- or 8-port ethernet switch. Connect to the switch the LAN port of the Base Station, and all of your hardwired PCs

Is it possible to link together two modem/routers in the same network? I have a WRT54G in my home office in the front corner of my house. The wireless signal is weak on the other end of the house (TV room). I've tried a Range Expander but the kitchen appliances cause too much interference.

Add time capsule to existing network to make subnetwork (two routers?)
We have a modem/router (motorola) provided by isp to connect to internet. Most devices connect to this wirelessly. We just purchased an Airport + Time Capsule to create a subnetwork (add to existing network via ethernet cable), so that only a few devices can wirelessly connect to Airport + Time capsule to store time machine back up and to wirelessly print to one printer connected by usb to Time Capsule. When I select "I want to add to existing network" the motorola only shows up as a wireless, can't see the wired option. I tested that the ethernet cable works and connected to one port on motorola and WAN on Time Capsule. How do I tell Airport + Time Capsule to connect to motorola modem/router via the ethernet cable? I think I want it to connect via cable because I don't want the Airport to replace the existing router, rather I want to end up with two routers (one for entire network, and second one just for subnetwork).

Are you using v6 in Lion utility? I am using SL with 5.5 utility. There is no such place that I can find. (You will do better downloading and using v5.6 for Lion anyway).
On the manual setup.. summary page it will show the IP you get on the WAN port. From default settings this will all work properly.. there is nothing you need to do.
Plug ethernet from modem router to TC wan port. When you do the TC will get an IP.
If you open the internet tab, you can see Connect using.. ethernet. Just leave that. and everything else on auto.
For connection sharing, you still need to share a public IP.. although TC will complain you are not using public but private IP.. there is nothing you can do about that. Just set the TC to ignore the error double NAT.
When I began installation, I plugged everything in, then plugged in power. I opened Airport Utility, and followed on-screen instructions, but when selecting "connect to existing network with ethernet cable" my modem/router doesn't appear in the list.
Do not use connect to existing network.. that will bridge the TC which you don't want.
You have to use the existing network as if it is public network. And stuff behind your TC is private.
If I set the TC to bridge mode, won't it "take over" all router activity, and the first group of computers won't be able to connect directly to motorola? (I don't want this first group of computers to be able to connect to the TC).
Also, I don't want the TC to connect to the motorola wirelessly.)
If you set the TC to bridge it will not route at all... it will become a client of the existing network. And all IP addresses will be taken from the Motorola.. you will have one flat network, which is what usually people want.
If you are still struggling.. do this.
1. Tell me the IP address the existing Motorola is passing to the clients. Your one big issues here is making sure they are in fact on two different subnets.
2. As long as condition of 1 is fulfulled this will work at default setting. Reset the TC by holding down the reset for 10sec.
Plug Lan motorola to WAN TC.
Plug a computer into the TC to do setup.
Set up as if you have public IP on wan. Tell TC to ignore double NAT.
Set wireless and TC names as you want.
Now test internet.. on a client computer on the TC. it should work fine. At least for everything that doesn't need interactive connection.
3. You can improve things by using DMZ in the Motorola to the TC. That alleviates at least some of the issues that arise with double NAT. -
I used migration to transfer iTunes from pc to mac book. It had me set up another user account. Now i have 2 user accounts and i have the iTunes on the wrong one. How do i get the iTunes on the original account.
In Mail Preferences/Accounts/each GMail account, set up the SMTP Outgoing Server for each account separately, going into SMTP name/edit/Advanced and specify the Username of each account. The Outgoing servers must be two different servers, authenticated by the Username and Password of each.
Otherwise, the GMail SMTP server will change the from address to that of the account where the SMTP server was setup.

No, you cannot link to produce a single large partition.
But you can have two separate backup jobs.. and use each partition. That is hard on TM but you can easily get a different backup software for it.

In TM you do a different setup and exclude the other drive.
But it is better to use an alternative software IMHO.

You would need to use a network drive of more than 4TB .. it would also take forever. This is just wrong way to do it. Although you can buy a NAS that will work with Time Machine and load it with disks 16TB is possible.. if you can get a second mortgage.. the fragile nature of TM on 3rd party devices.. would leave me in cold sweat if anything went wrong.
TM is excellent at keeping incremental backups of files that keep changing.. as such you should use TM to backup your OS disk and main user directory.. exclude all files and directories that never change. Back them up separately.

Yes, that is a much better idea. You want to store photos safely and you want to store them in multiple places. If you have multiple TB of photos, dedicate a couple of disks to the backup. ie have at least two copies.. not in backup format.. in straight copy format if possible.. so you can keep one of the disks offsite.
I would be using your MacPro internal disk access, to place the disk onto sata bus and do the copy disk to disk direct. Or even buy esata card.. or sata to esata converter cable so you can use esata box. That will beat any other transfer speed except thunderbolt for which you would need third mortgage. (The MORT in mortgage is significant).

Using two routers for the same SSID
So here's my story. I have a standard Actiontec router in my basment, connected straight to the coax outlet, and connected by LAN Ethernet to a crappy computer nobody uses. It gives off a WPA2 wifi network, let's call it MyNetwork. For the longest time it's been the only router in the house. The coax outlet is on a splitter, splitting the coax outlet into one wire that goes to the Actiontec modem/router and the other to my TV STB. Recently we installed a new coax outlet on the other side of my house and next to it we have a brand new desktop computer that we use often. It has no wifi so and we can't run an ethernet cable throughout the entire house so we got a new Actiontec modem/router from our neighbor who just moved out. It's the exact same Actiontec device.
What we want to do is make it so that both routers give off signal on the same MyNetwork we have to make it a wider reaching signal, and so that I can connect the new desktop computer to the new router with an ethernet cable. I've read so many guides and they're all so confusing and it's such a mess that I almost completely screwed over my network. it seems like the two routers are completely independent of one another, not even aware of the others' existence. The new router is definitely in range of the old one. I've logged into 192.168.1.1 on the new computer and the new router seems to think it IS the old router (or so I think). It showed me all the same devices that have connected to MyNetwork and such, but then again it's always hard to be certain exactly which device is which. After messing around I must have changed some IP address or something, but it seems that 192.168.1.1 doesn't take me to the Verizon login screen, but 192.168.2.1 does. Can I reset those IP addresses?
And of course, can somone please provide a clean, easy to follow course of action as to how to set up two routers on one network?maxbirch wrote:

I suspect it might be a good idea to step back reconsider your ultimate layout. Essentially you now have two (or if the STB is also included, three) coax drops connected to the ONT. It seems that you desire that one of these service the STB, and the other two each service a desktop and a wireless access point. If this is the case, continue reading.
There is no need to consider the original Actiontec router as the primary router, wireless or otherwise. Use the new coax location to connect to the primary Actiontec router (you can use either router). For starters, reset both routers to their factory defaults using the reset switch on the back of each device (for details, do a search).
Once the primary router has been located (or relocated) to the new coax drop, just connect the new desktop there using an Ethernet cable connected to one of the LAN ports on the back of the router. Then set up your primary wireless network based on this router (once again, do a search on these forums for specifics on setting up a basic wireless home network).
Now use the original coax outlet where the first router was located to set up another access point. This access point will provide Ethernet connections plus an additional wireless network (if it's still needed). However you cannot have two wireless devices on a single home network with the same SSID (i.e., network name). Here are details on some methods to do this:

Well, was loving my new refurb Mac until two nights ago...did a software update, during which i got a message saying the update had unexpectedly terminated. so i surfed a bit then switched my Mac off. Went back to it about 30 mins later, tried to turn it on and it wouldn't get past the progress bar / loading page. Tried to reboot it again and momentarily saw a black page with some white writing in the top l/h corner - then it just got stuck on a blue screen again. How disappointed was i?
Called Mac support on their rather cheeky 0870 fee-charging number, who were helpful and advised me to reload the OS - popped the disc in and lo and behold the discs it shipped with were the wrong ones. Then the guy on Support tried to get me an appointment with the Mac store in Regent Street - nothing available for this weekend - and he could only book me in a day in advance, so couldn't even make an apointment for the week ahead. He then told me I could try one of their authorised service centres, but there may be a charge. Was not happy about that at all - didn't see why i should pay to fix something 10 days old.
I eventually managed to get an appointment at Albion Computers, a reseller and service centre, they had the correct OS discs and got my Mac up and running again without losing any of the stuff i had done on the machine since getting it 10 days ago. They also advised me that technically I was not covered by the warranty because it was a software problem which caused the Mac to go wrong - despite the software update being from Apple. Thankfully, they did not charge me!
Both the guy at Albion computers and the Apple support guy said that the discs it shipped with were the wrong ones - they are 10.4.8 whereas the OS my machine should have shipped with is 10.4.6. A couple of people have told me that this should matter as both discs are 10.4.something - in you opinion are the correct? (i have siunce updated to 10.4.9 via software updates)
Anyway, London based Mac users - Albion Computers on The Strand were great and I highly recommend them, really helpful people and the shop was lovely and calm. As for the issue of not getting the right disks, the fact that the machine is refurbished puts the whole issue of warranty on more shaky ground. Some places that sell refurbished products typically will stand by whatever software is included. Others do not. The real question is where you bought the refurbished machine? If the Apple Store, I would contact customer relations at AppleCare's phone number and tell them everything that happened to you. You should get the correct disks. They will be useful in troubleshooting issues in the future. And now that you have everything up and running, I strongly recommend you institute a backup plan, in case you never do get the correct original disks, and also in case something else which made the machine a refurbished machine crops up. The reason is the logic behind this is wrong.
May we know why do you want to maintain two separate codes for one real material?
We have option of batch management as well as split valuation to take care of your requirement.
Evaluate these things.

Load balancing between two routers
I have two routers connected through the LAN connection. The first one is using as routing protocol EIGRP, the other one is part of the managed service and I do not have access to it. I would like to make a load balancing between the two of them by redistributing the static routes in EIGRP. When I tried this, I am loosing the EIGRP entry for this route in the routing table. I would like to have both of them , so we could have traffic sharing. I appreciate if you give me any hints.

you have two choices as far as I can see. If you want to use static routing over the WAN to your branch, you could duplicate your static routes to the branch and point them to the secondary router. You will have two identical sets of static routes in the primary router, one set pointing to the WAN interface and the other one pointing to the secondary router.

ip route x.x.x.x "secondary router"
ip route y.y.y.y "WAN-interface"
ip route y.y.y.y "secondary router"
etc.
As a result the primary router will have two routes to the branch and will load-balance. If one next-hop fails (either the WAN interface or the secondary router), only the other will be used. If the next-hop comes back up, load-balancing will resume.
The other choice would be to use EIGRP over the WAN, and make sure the two routers become EIGRP neighbors. Then you can use the "variance" command to achieve unequal cost load-balancing between the two routers. Let me know if you need more information about this, but i think static routes will be sufficient in your situation.

ACE 4710 transparent LB with two Caches and two routers.

I have ACE 4710 that load balance two cach flows (bluecoat), i am doing pbr on the routers to send the traffic destined to port 80 to ACE then Cach farm. After that the Cach flow will get the page from the internet via two routers. The return traffic will match another pbr on the routers with source port 80 that will send it to the ACE then CachFlow again .....then to the users.
I am not using ip-spoofing on the CachFlow for now. In the figure attached i created a VIP 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 port 80 on the interface on the ACE facing the routers, but the question is do i have to create another VIP 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 port 80 on the interface on ACE facing the Cach Flow? or just forward the traffic on the default route? What might be the default route since i have to use two routers and i cannot use hsrp?

In the topology you described, only the service-policy in the interface towards the routers is necessary. For the traffic from the caches, the ACE will just forward to the default gateway.
The only problem is, as you mentioned, that you cannot use HSRP. In that case, you can still configure two default gateways, but there is no way to predict which one the ACE will use at a given time (the way it does to select the one it will use is sending an ARP request to both gateways and using the one that replies first until the ARP entry expires)
If you need to load-balance the traffic between both routers, then yes, you would need to configure a new VIP on the cache side and load-balanced to a transparent serverfarm composed of both routers.

I open several images in PSE, then try to do photomerge. File | Automation Tools only shows one entry: Fit Image. File | New only shows "Blank File" and "Image from Clipboard" (greyed out). Am I missing something? Anyone else have a similar problem?
